Yeah, and if you want to know what it's sending, get you an RTL-SDR software radio dongle, then compile and run rtlamr on your software development laptop.
No such thing.
You need to assume any public WiFi like that is insecure (because they are).
Instead you’ll want to use a vpn service. I recommend ProtonVPN, but this is something you want to spend some time researching because all VPN services are not equal.
Okay, let's ignore all the campaign rhetoric (even though I think that's given plenty of people more than enough justification to protest). In his first day in office, he:
Do we have your permission yet?
Peter Lynch, a famous investor and author of the well-known investing book "One Up on Wall Street," is a proponent of this philosophy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Lynch#Investment_philosophy
He basically suggests that you should invest in the things you know and understand, because your personal experiences can help you identify stocks that are valuable.
You might not think it's a smart plan, but actual results from a very similar change on Ponce suggest that it's an effective plan for increasing efficiency and safety for all parties. Really disheartening that this apparently isn't going to happen on this stretch of Peachtree.
When the lobbyists are writing the legislation, it's not unreasonable to think they're writing the canned responses to be sent out too.
$2000+??? Try AirBnB.
Back to life. Back to reality.
I resisted all forms of sweets this entire holiday. This is a first for me. I should have mentioned that in my Secret Santa profile. I ended up getting a ton of candy from Germany (among other great things). I'll probably bring them to work tomorrow.

I don't want to discount the affects of climate change; they are real and we should be concerned. But this year's above average warmth is largely attributable to this summer's El Niño. Meteorologist had been expecting it quite some time and predicting record temps.
It will likely be cooler next year and climate change deniers will point to it and say "If global warming is real, why is it cooler than 2016-2017?", ignoring the greater trends.
Dancing Goats at PCM has that big awesome deck. Grant Park Octane inside is super nice. Condesa on John Wesley Dobbs has some comfy chairs & excellent coffee. Then there's always Taproom, Chrome Yellow, Hodgepodge, and even the War Horse at the Goat Farm.
I made a big list of coffee shops as part of my never-ending quest to drink a cafe au lait in every Atlanta coffee shop. Feel free to peruse.

I finished Our Final Warning: Six Degrees of Climate Emergency over the weekend. Great, but also horrendously anxiety-inducing...
Anyway, short week, then I'm taking all of next week off! Wooo!
So the Daughter took her beloved cat (she LOVES this cat) to the Roswell Cat Clinic and saw God.
This is her first solo pet, not one of the family pets (it's actually kinda cute)
She was so enamored with the Vet there and is taking his every word as if it were one of the 10 Commandments. He was really good. He spent almost 2 hours with her talking about cats and their behavior
Apparently, her cat is a "Barn Cat" because the Vet kept calling him a Barn Cat. He also said that it was a "proven fact that Red (orange) cats have the best personalities.
Because our 2 male cats are overweight lazy slobs, we now have to switch our feeding style.
They now have to "hunt for their food" and we have 6 of these little mouse feeders and the cats have to actively work to get the food to come out. Once they figure this out, we are supposed to hide the mouse in the house so the cats have to hunt for their food.
Lucy, our Mico Cat, doesn't need to do this as she is an indoor/outdoor cat and is svelt so we can still bowl feed her but we have to move her food bowl out into the garage to the boys don't take all her food.

Yes! If you don't want to hear a jingley hang tag, get an embroidered collar. If you prefer a tag that can move between collars because your dog likes to celebrate holidays and wear seasonal prints and colors, or their owner shops too much (ahem), they have some engraved metal tags on Amazon that sit flat on the collar but can be removed (but not extremely easily, so they don't fall off). Like this.
I started listening to <em>Our Final Warning: Six Degrees of Climate Emergency</em> last night... as if I need more existential worry in my life...
Anyway! It's almost the weekend! I'm embarking on a quest tomorrow to find myself a set of bentos / kit lunchboxes. Ikea and Container Store, here I come!
actually the GA Tech conference center hotel is pretty nice I stayed there for a work thing a few years back. It's right by the Cheetah if you are into that sort of night life as well. GT Hotel
I also like the W Midtown on 14th, stayed there many times
Parking on Campus is a mess, same as most campuses, use Uber or a cab you'll be better off unless your conference has a special area/lot or parking pass

A no pull harness would help a lot. Clip on the leash to the front of the harness. It spins them around if they pull. Really helps in training leash walks. Don’t adjust your pace to suit the dog, the dog must walk at heel at whatever pace you’re going.
Consistency is key to training a dog. Best time to train a dog is after they’ve expended excessive energy. So, play with the dog, run it around. Then have short training sessions that you repeat everyday with the same tone of voice. Correct any behavior with an even but firm tone of voice.
Most important things to work with a foster dog are: sit, stay, wait, leave it, drop it, get back, and of course potty outside.
These treats are excellent for training.
Edit: Apparently, I can’t spell anything today.
I brought it up in another thread… I got this book from my gf for Xmas: https://www.amazon.com/Flight-Path-beneath-Busiest-Airport/dp/1938235282
It goes on to show how much was lost during the expansion of Hartsfield. Entire towns, gone.
Recently, I found out that these 2 old buildings downtown are getting knocked down to make way for a Margaritaville Hotel (whatever it is sounds fucking horrible). I loved these buildings… sat empty forever. At one point I called to see how much it was to buy them… only 1.3 million for both. That might have been like 6 years ago.
Consider running my open source app for citizen science, PressureNet on Android. It uses the barometer in your smartphone to periodically measure the atmospheric pressure, and the data is sent to scientists for analysis.
We're specifically aiming to increase the accuracy and lead-time on severe weather alerts. We think that dense networks of barometers could make a dramatic improvement on forecast accuracy.
There was a recent scientific paper demonstrating our data being used in a forecast, and it seems to work a little bit! We need more data, however, so do you want to join? Cheers!
Hey Atlanta! I've been waiting months, but today my book finally hits shelves!
Video. The action starts 40 seconds in. My favorite part is that he gets out and thinks, "This is still a good idea, I just have to get my car farther inside the building."
West Midtown Corner Tavern is open for business today. Stop by, gawk, and give those guys some dollars.
Continue deporting violent criminals. Violent criminals need to be dealt with because they impact all of our communities. Nevertheless, this entire fear mongering of the supposed rampant illegal violent offender, in my opinion, has recently been blown out of proportion by political rhetoric. In fact, "illegal immigrants are 44 percent less likely to be incarcerated than natives.” ^1 That said, it’s a problem, its just not as perverse as politicians or certain media outlets emphasize.
However, the recent push to deport all undocumented individuals through local law enforcement cooperation could lead to counter-productive effects on the reporting of illegal violent criminals among undocumented communities. Chief of the Houston Police Department calls it the “chilling effect” where members of the undocumented communities stop reporting crimes due to a fear of deportation and create worse off conditions. ^2 I think we can already see how the rhetoric, its effect on enforcement and subsequently crime and safety truly impact each other.
Here's some data with respect to the changes made to Ponce. It's not the greatest presentation ever, but basically the findings were:
At the very least I think it blows some holes in the fears that similar changes to Peachtree would bring car traffic to a standstill.

I'd say that you should first read this neighborhood guide put together by Mail Chimp. It's sort of a "Neighborhoods 101" for the city (not so much the burbs). After reading it, come back here with more specific questions.

Thankful for my garage this morning. Got a great parking place at work that minimized my walk in this arctic tundra. Planning 6:00 raid hour for Pokemon Go tonight is going to be interesting. So far, a few people are planning to brave the cold and dark but we will see how many really turn up. I brought a hat and scarf to complete my winter outfit. Unfortunately, I can't play with gloves. So... I'm gonna have to catch in my car. I've already discovered that I suck at catching legendaries with cold hands. I ordered these to play in the dark but they won't be at my house in time to use tonight.
On a completely different note, I mentioned that one of my coworkers turned in her notice. It's our librarian. I help her run our book club (though there's a running joke that it's "my" book club). Well, it will kinda be "my" book club next year. I'm sure it will take them a while to find a replacement. I have been joking that book club is dead but all my friends are begging me to keep it going. It won't be the same but I guess I'm gonna try. She will help me pick this last set of books for 2020 and then she's gonna peace out. But the work she does to find questions and lead the discussion will now fall on me. I like just giving my opinion and finding fun foods to bring. We have a teacher so I'm probably going to lean on her a lot next year as a librarian-adjacent professional.
I believe that wooden pencils are more ecologically sustainable than plastic mechanical ones with refills coming in plastic containers. Therefore, default school-room supplies should be wooden #2s with the obligatory mechanical pencil sharpeners. Those sharpeners do need quieted bearings and bushings, though, so that they do not interrupt class.
I myself, though, use a 0.5mm Silver metal Automatic Drafting Pencil when I need graphite instead of ink.
I fully support a recycling program for wooden pencil shavings to be incorporated into hand-made fire starters in a new school camping & outdoors curriculum's classes.
I don't see any viable suction ones. There seems to be two choices: drilling through the tile and a tension ones. I'm going to assume (based on what you said) that drilling isn't an option.
For the tension ones, people who say they always fall down have suggested two things:
Best reviewed curtain rod on Amazon (tension type): Rod!
Another option might be to hang it from a track on the ceiling. Thoughts?

Yeah, rat snake, not black racer. Racers are a little prettier and not as common around here.
See the thread about rats yesterday? I bet you don't have rats.
This page shows the differences pretty well, there’s also a video showing them side-by-side. Another difference between the two - the rat snake will slowly move away or freeze, the racer will likely rocket into orbit, sometimes coming right at you.

I'ts been getting worse. I've graphed the loss, latency, and jitter from a multi-homed data center in Atlanta to my Comcast connection at home (also in Atlanta).
Here's the last 3 hours, 30 hours, 10 days, and year. I'm graphing lots of other hosts from this same box to random other places on the Internet and this is BY FAR the worst looking one.
I'm using SmokePing to do the pings and graphs. Also, I'm not using a consumer grade router at home. I have DOCSIS 3.0 modem connected directly to a linux box acting as my router.

The chain probably stretched due to the coaster brakes. Depending on the rear dropouts on the bike, you might be able to slide the rear wheel forward or back to tension the chain properly (might be assuming a lot on a Walmart bike though). You might be able to add a chain tensioner as well depending on how the bike is set up.
I’d mentioned a while back that I’d been way less miserable from mosquito bites since learning about the hot spoon trick last year. Stick a spoon in hot water, being careful not to burn yourself, hold it on bite for several seconds. Heat breaks down the enzymes, proteins or whatever and stops the itching. For a minor bite, and/or getting it done soon after a bite, the itching is often gone for good. For bites with worse reactions/bumps, it at least stops the itching for several hours and then I can do it again.
Found out the other day that they now make little rechargeable heat wands to do the same way faster and without messing with heating up water. Grabbed this one off of Amazon the other day and works like a charm so far: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XSHJMXM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
Making things a bit less miserable as bug bites are just inevitable unless I want to be covered in deet all the time as I’m a magnet for mosquitoes and other biting/stinging bugs, nothing else works and there are a ton of bugs in our neighborhood (Ivy everywhere, still a lot of dilapidated properties with standing water, tires and other trash tossed in some vacant lots, down the hill into creek/drainage areas etc.) and our dog needs long walks when it’s not too hot (i.e. peak mosquito times).
Depending on how big the project is, you might wanna invest in getting a half decent Harbor Freight circular saw and a crosscut guide. The cost to use one of those makerspaces - plus likely required 'training' - might cost more than just buying the tools themselves.

There isn't a cultural traditions supporting hostels. There is a cultural tradition support for hospitality, try Couchsurfing or Airbnb. Beyond that if you know someone then it'd be comparatively easy to stay and their place.
Beyond that you'd probably have to break down for a hotel/motel. Atlanta is pretty cheap compared to some things.

Did anyone else see a bright white light dart across the sky from west to east this morning around 6:50 AM? It zoomed from horizon to horizon in about 6-7 seconds. I didn't see a smoke trail behind it, and it didn't flame out and disappear like space debris usually does.
Hi neighbor! Have you tried next door? It's a message board for local neighborhoods and they have a pretty good success rate for helping reunite dogs with lost owners. :)

I think you have to sign up to read it. I didn't see a notice about dogs missing that meets that description but might come up soon. Can't imagine someone not missing those two.
Folks, to see what internet speed you are truly getting, go to https://speedof.me/ and click Start Test. After it spins for a bit you'll see two lines like below. You may have to try this multiple times to get an accurate assessment. (But the truth is, I had 7mbps from BellSouth for years and watched Netflix just fine over it, so don't let a vendor talk you into a zillion Mbps unless you really need it!)
Download Speed: 71.36 Mbps
Upload Speed: 56.99 Mbps
Got notified yesterday on what my raise would actually be this year, after it being up in the air on Tuesday after my review. Definitely was much more than I possibly expected, so I'm pretty happy right now.

Going to watch the final episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier during my lunch break today and then hopefully leave work a little early a bit later on.

1- GA has three options for insurance. BCBS, Kaiser and Peach State Health Plan. All are HMOs so you have to go to docs that are within their networks, which is probably fine for you since you're new here and don't have existing healthcare professionals you work with anyway.
2 - Here's a helpful article on predicting income if you're a freelancer. I would estimate as a PA if you're reasonably successful, you'll probably be making somewhere between 20k-30k your first year here. I believe in GA if you make under 30k you will qualify for financial assistance.
If you're single and under 30, if I were you, I would just go to Healthcare.gov and sign up for the cheapest catastrophic plan you can find. I wouldn't be surprised if this entire process got reformed in the next year anyway.

Diwali (Deepavali in Sanskrit, meaning "row of lamps" - Deepa=Light/lamp, Vali=row/line) is a Hindu festival of lights, which is celebrated every autumn in the northern hemisphere (spring in southern hemisphere). One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.". In the Gregorian calendar, the festival generally falls between mid-October and mid-November. The festival, which lasts 3-5 days is celebrated with fireworks (after sunset) along with other festivities. Think of it as a mix of Thanksgiving and Christmas for Hindus. :-)
In 2019, festival of Diwali is celebrated this weekend on Sunday, October 27th. Please be aware and prepared to take care of the pets and young children. As this is falling on the weekend, you may hear fireworks on Friday and Saturday too in the evening around town.
Browse some neighborhoods here: https://mailchimp.com/about/jobs/atlanta/neighborhoods/
Atlanta is really big and spread out. There are urban areas with character and cookie cutter suburban areas with strip malls and everything in between.
You could live with a roommate or alone and the costa would vary widely based on where you want to be and if you are willing to have a roommate.
Some one bedroom apartments in a good part of town can easily hit $2,000/mo or more but you can also find studio apartments in a semi shady part of town for much much less.
Traffic is bad here so picking what area of town you want to be in and work in matters a lot. Unless you want to be in your car all time stuck in traffic, which I do not recommend. We do have some limited transit.

I would look for hotels near MARTA stops, that should expand your options quite a bit. Airbnb might be an option as well.
Edit: Do not stay at that hotel, probably one of the sketchiest in the area.
Your best option is to use Waze. It will route you based on current traffic. Generally 78 isn't bad, but when it does pile up it can be dreadful. Generally 285 sucks during commute times, but sometimes it is suprisingly clear. PIB is usually good (and often moving 20mph above the speed limit) but there are frequent speed traps near 285.
If your desperate, https://www.sling.com, or purchase the show your interested in on Google Play/iTunes the day after it airs. The savings from Comcast's shitty service will more than cover the cost.
The blame rests on AMC probably forcing Google to take it's whole suite of channels (IFC, WeTV, Sundance) and asking too much for it. As Google amasses subscribers it will gain more bargaining power. Dish went through a similar dispute back in 2012 with AMC.
The vinegar/dish soap trap works pretty well, but IMO I've had those fuckers breed faster than they get caught in the trap. So it catches a lot but there's still plenty more flying around. Bought one of these things in the spring and it's been a lifesaver. The light really draws them in. The amount of flies on the pad like every day is revolting.
This may be a bit hippie-dippie for your taste but the book The Artist’s Way really helped me come back to myself and clarify my values and find ways to express myself in and out of work. Again: it’s pretty woo-woo. But I liked it and it helped!
Passion! It's one of those "Teenagers who desperately want to fit in pay lip service to god so they're accepted by a group of other teenagers" conferences. I was sorta one of those at one time. It'll make downtown crazy all week.
Depends on how much info we're storing. Let's go insane and say we're storing a whole megabyte of data for each person (this is roughly 500 pages of 12-point font words. An entire biography). Now multiply that times 592,000 (to be double safe) and we're looking at 592 gigabytes of data.
If we check here, we can see pricing for relational databases. The size of your server requirements aren't going to change for a measly 600k records, so that cost is 0. The only real cost we're worried about is storage. Well let's assume we have a single-server mysql distribution that is on SSDs (gives the capacity we need). That's $0.115x592= $68 a month, or a little less than Nathan Deal earns in an hour.
Just an PSA, allergy medicine is super cheap at Costco.

And a lot of those parents don't have time to read to their children.
Studies have suggested that the number of words a kid hears in his formative years has a huge impact on future academic performance and success in life.
I think about things like this all the time. And, it's not just the number of words heard. So many kids are losing out by not having adequate nutrition, both childhood and prenatal.
Kids are being rigged off their future and the country is being rigged of potential genius.

Busy, busy weekend, but I got in some grocery shopping, cleaning, baking, family time, screaming toddler time. Full, well-rounded weekend. 😆 Happy Monday, folks!
PS - If anyone is looking to purchase a motorcycle, here's a good one! 😄

Follow the directions to the letter. TINY dots. It worked really well in a rental in FLORIDA that had the AC turned off for a long time and food and trash left in the house.

Might want to pick up a small dry bag for a phone or two, some car keys, etc.
Pick up some big, cheap carabiners from Amazon. Often sold as "mommy hooks". They work great for quickly and easily connecting a bunch of tubes together without having a mess of life jacket straps. Also work great work getting a couple pairs of sandals securely stowed.
Browsing Amazon for a 2018 wall calendar for my office and came across a calendar of Nature's Dick Pics, because of course that's a thing.
Yesterday was not a solid mental health day for me. I got overwhelmed with work, and trying to make sure the kids are doing their work just stressed me out. Came home feeling really down and bummed and then an Amazon package was delivered.

I suggest an apartment on Highland / North Highland Avenue south of Ponce de Leon. Here, you have access to the Freedom Park trail (running / biking / walking), that goes through Freedom Park, as well as the newly built (and yet to open) Beltline trail that goes up to Piedmont Park.
