Does this stop windows 10 from reinstalling it? (non-pro)
Edit: can confirm it does not. And further more it wont even help not rebooting, i was playing a game and windowz decided to install updates at this time causing my game to crash and computer to become unresponsive.
EDIT I use this to disable windows update: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
Bloody sick of this shit.
To anyone having issues with privacy on any windows system (7, 8, 8.1, 10) I would reccomend this:
You can select and change everything you need to.
I have been using it since day one, works great.
Windows has always "spied", this time they just made it more apparent. You still have plenty of privacy settings. And you can get "Ultimate Windows Tweaker" for windows 10, which includes over 200 tweaks.
>I have used Ultimate Windows Tweaker for 10 it has a lot of selections to disable telemetry. I've not done any in depth analysis of traffic but I think it takes care of most of it. Windows itself has a few settings to turn some of it off. I suppose it's easy for MS to turn them back on with an update.
Ms does not allow you to block any ms ips or hostnames from within windows, and you are not allowed to block it via any firewall product either.
>Also, DON'T use a MS account to log in to unless you absolutely must have all the crap that goes with it, the Windows store etc.
Log into the windows store without using an ms account to log into windows. Is possible, but not often talked about
>The router way is probably the best provided that MS keeps consistent with it's IPs and hostnames. All they have to do is "update" their telemetry names / IPs and update their DNS and all is for naught.
Since you cannot block ms ips and hostnames from within windows, best way is with iptables. As long as you use their hostnames, even if they change ips, its still blocked.
>A combination of both ways will probably keep most of it at bay.
Network level is best
>As far as a list, it's unbelievable how many there are. Take a look at this post
I am quite aware. 10 years ago, windows 10 would have been called malware or spyware.
Yeah, I got an email about this and died a little bit inside.
(I've signed up for giveaways and now get all his junky advertisements.)
All his projects go something like:
"Hey, freeware! I wonder if I can give it a new interface and sell it for money to those naive gamers."
Ram drives, CPU core managers, and now this.
He has some stones calling himself a "developer".
This one is particularly loathesome, as it is a narrowly scoped utility. Much more capable Windows tweakers have existed since at least XP. The one I have for windows 10 does all of this and a proverbial butt-load more, for absolutely free.
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
There's probably a registry edit to do so (regedit) like most other things but I wouldn't know it. It also might be in the Windows Tweaker: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
I use Ultimate Windows Tweaker To disable
I also used a few other programs to ensure that windows was not doing certain spooky things. Some of the software that I used
Network Limiter
Wire Shark
What a lot of people seem to not understand is that most of the privacy issues they are concerned about on windows 10 are on windows 8. I was on windows 7 and have noticed that windows 10 seems to be more responsive with a faster boot time.
As for security for Enterprise. A small list of thing I have seen and read about that have been implemented.
I think these three for Enterprise are pretty big I'm sure there is more and will look into it .
I think the O&O Shutup10 is safe to use. There is a large discussion about it on my digital life. And the popular Windows tweaker 4 recently got updated with some privacy options to disable.
Ultimate Windows Tweaker is kind of a must have companion to WinAeroTweaker. They both seem to lack each others featuers, but together they pretty much cover everything tweakable or whatever.
you can use powershell commands (go to number 6 where it shows the commands) this will only show removing progrmas like office hub, zune music, etc some programs like cortana cant be removed from windows with out manually doing so trough registry some how
as well at UWT4 which you can set to help remove more bullshit that's stock on windows 10 like telemetry (if you want to, should be used for mostly sending crash reports to Microsoft, and ads) ad ID (turn completely off and force shutoff), biometrics, etc
There's very little you can do to optimize a fresh W10 install, it all depends on how many programs you choose to run at startup and keep running while you don't use them. A fresh (non-OEM) install will have the cleanest version of Windows you can get. You can use additional programs like CCleaner or Powershell commands to remove default apps.
For privacy/disabling tracking you can download Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4 and in "Security and privacy settings" disable all from Microsoft.
To uninstall default W10 apps, you can follow these Poweshell instructions, or download CCleaner, go to Tools > Uninstall > Select app to be uninstalled.
With the specs you have listed I'm fairly certain your system won't skip a beat whether you do these things or not.
yes there is a way, you can just install ultimate windows tweaker for windows 10: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
then under the customisation tab there is a checkbox saying system uses light theme, uncheck that and apply
Ultimate Windows Tweaker - for Windows 10
You can use it to simply make changes to the registry and disable automatic updates.
note that it will stop all updates.
use at your own discretion
In addition to what /u/w32sh suggested, you could also download Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4, start it, go to the Additional section and click on "Enable Windows Photo Viewer" at the bottom.
In my experience this is a more complete solution than most of the registry tweaks out there (when I used one of the registry files I found online, the thumbnails for pictures (in Detail, Small icons and List mode) were set to Photo Viewer's icon. After using UWT's tweak they look like this - ^(yep, I download a lot of album art, I like to keep my music library organised. Also a big fan of MusicBrainz Picard, especially version 1.4) - which looks better in my opinion).
Honestly no. I have gotten Win 10 on my Win 8 machine. and it has been nothing but a shit show. Constant FPS stutter on games such as league of legends and others. Google chrome keeps spazzing out hard. Just in general an awful experience. If youa re going to upgrade to Win 10. Here are some pro tips didnt work for me might work for you. INstall Ultimate Win 10 tweaker get god mode by pasting this in a new folder you create on the desktop "ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C" and disable anything protection wise cause win 10 is a harvesting machine for personal data/ information. Overall i was heavilly disapointed and uninstalled that cancerous wanna be OS. Considering you are running win 7 i wouldnt even bother with 10. Just complete and utter garbage in comparison. Th only reason i tried it out was due to having win 8 which is also garbage
Okay, so I use this: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10 and basicly disable everything I dont need. Then I use gdipp to make to fonts not suck. - https://code.google.com/p/gdipp/downloads/list And then I use this to disable NSA-stuff: https://forums.spybot.info/downloads.php?id=55
Hope that helps :)

Here is good and easy tutorial how to stop few things, but it cannot be stopped fully.
Have you tried using the Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4 tool?
I downloaded that from the windows club website and it provides some options to disable windows 10 built-in features.
Link: windows tweaker
I hope this helps out.
When I first installed Windows 10 - I played around with all the "new" features and options, but I eventually removed MOST new features and set up Windows 10 to work more like Windows 7.
One of the best programs for customizing Windows 10 is "Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4 for Windows 10" from http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10.
I spent four weeks working with and customizing Windows 10 and finally decided to return to Windows 7 until Microsoft gets their act together. Many of the programs I use are in portable format and do not work with Windows 10. As soon as Thinapp comes out with a version that can be used for Windows 10 - I will recreate all my portable applications and return to Windows 10.
Win 10 is largely unnecessary if you previously used 7 or 8.1, it's just a worse version of these with a little extra 1984 on top. Granted linux is not for everyone, you can make win 10 a little more bearable if you disable ~~some~~ a lot of things.
I used windows tweaker. It has the options you require (disabling updates) plus some really cool privacy settings.
I just used some third party tool to disable their shit, and I have not once seen that screen.
The video was hilarious though.
Edit: found link to program, added it above
Yes. There's a neat tool called the 'Ultimate Windows Tool 4' which I have and it lets you customize a LOT about it, including the surveillance stuff.
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
Download near bottom of page
There's a been a lot of threads around the internets about this issue, and while I don't know if there's an "official" fix, at least you have a lot of stuff to research and try. For instance...
By trying one thing at a time you might eventually find a fix that works for your setup.
I just disable it, along with getting rid of all the 'My Documents/Photos/Videos' etc shite Win10 insists on spunking all over the place.
Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4 is a bloody godsend for getting proper rid of Microsofts shit.
sorry I just saw this. The registry changes actually caused a lot of issues when I tried to do it in the beginning (it was randomly deleting my icons, changing them back to their original icons, etc.) so I used Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4.3
The link is here: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
There's an option in the program that lets you hide the shortcut arrows without any issues, just make sure to restart your computer afterward. The program is also useful for a ton of other stuff.
> win7 has less spyware running than win10 so it'll probably be a bit faster
...oh. You're one of those people.
Anyway, I have two separate computers: one for gaming, one for everything else. The gaming one gets higher framerates, or better settings at equal framerates, on Win10 vs Win7. Same with Win7 vs WinXP. On my oldest laptop I wasn't actually able to run Portal due to having such low specs, it just wouldn't load all the way, but when I upped from XP to 7 on the machine, without changing any hardware, I was able to play it, and several other games were far more playable as well.
You can say 'it shouldn't make a difference' and question the truthfulness of what I'm saying--and overall that's a good thing to do when people are making stupid claims on the internet--but this is based on a couple years of gaming experience. I like the simplicity of 7 better but for what I do, on this machine, 10 works best for now.
Also, please please please look into the Ultimate Windows Tweaker Tool if you care about privacy or just plain want to turn off some annoying things.
As far as decrapify the software you can uninstall everything except SCM (this controls the webcam on the GS63) and if you want the keyboard programming the steelseries software. I did a clean install on my GS63, it didn't make much of a difference vs just uninstalling the Dragon center and other bloatware (norton, etc). I'm also trialing out 'Ultimate Windows Tweaker' it is GUI based so it is a bit of a lazy way of disabling a lot of Windows features that I feel are unnecessary. It seemed to help more so in disabling Cortana and other annoying tracking type features of Windows 10. The performance section didn't really do anything for my setups.
Last Edit: you don't need the SCM software after you enable the webcam etc. from what I can see you can definitely disable from startup. I'll try to uninstall it to see if it affects anything.
I also had those hiccups, i managed to get rid of it mostly by using Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4 for W10
Open the program, go to the Security & Privacy section, than the Privacy tab and Disable everything in there. Restart PC and than check if it worked for you. It works for some people, but not everybody.
In the section Performance i can also recommend disabling the Superfetch service.
Yeah I think I'm a glutton for punishment for thinking I might have a different experience with my gs43 which has basically identical hardware to the gs63 I had problems with. I thought manually installing all the latest version of all drivers might help (specifically nvidia, killer, intel storage and intel display) as well as trying out this tool to disable all of the 'privacy' tab options: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10 .. so far doesn't seem to do it. I'm using LatencyMon to detect the stuttering and it's never really going away. Sucks since otherwise they're good machines.
Thanks man :)
Those are just desktop icons with the shortcut boxes removed, invisible characters for names and custom icons.
I used Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4.0 to get rid of the shortcut squares.
The icons are half from FlatWoken and half I had to make.
I also zoomed them in a bit to make them look nicer
You can turn off the Windows Update and BITS services. If you really want to go further, you can disable Cortana, OneDrive and telemetry.
If you'd prefer to not have to tweak everything by yourself, you can download a utility like UWT: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
I've tried setting the padding to as small as possible and found the edges were harder to grab for resizing. 3 is my current setting. I use Ultimate Windows Tweaker to adjust. There are versions for 7 & 8, as well.
Shameless plug, a great program for disabling advertising and other shitty features in Windows 10 is "ultimate windows tweaker"... a must have for any pro windows 10 user. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
If you don't use Windows Defender then download a program called "Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4" and disable Windows Defender through it :)
Here's the link:
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
Install Windows 10 and use Ultimate Windows Tweaker for any privacy concerns. It's much more efficient than 7 and, being fairly new, it still receives updates of couse.

the application to do it http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
Mine disappear after half a second. I do recall them screwing up sometimes though. Not sure what fixed it.
Here's a tweak tool I haven't looked at yet, but it can change those sorts of settings. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/ultimate-windows-tweaker-4-windows-10
The feature is called Peek by the way. Used to be called Aero Peek
EDIT: Nah that app doesn't have any time options for Peek, you can disable/enable it from there. Has lots of handy stuff in it though.
See this guide from HowToGeek
Scroll down to "Enable Verbose Service Startup/Shutdown Messages"
Another option is to download the Ultimate Windows Tweaker, go to User Accounts, and check the "Enable Verbose Logon Messages" box.
You don't need a microsoft email to make a microsoft account. I think there are tools to remove pre-installed programs. You can try Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4 which has a lot of tweaks.
