This is a good app for those who like playing with political alignment quizzes- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sipols.politics&hl=es_PE
Fun feature- after using your results to determine your local political preference it will apply them to international politics. (If you were voting in a Japanese election for eg, find out who would float your boat!). It also comes with a frankly amazing free bundle of classic political literature so you can explore the foundational works of most of the main movements/schools of thought.
As far as political quizzes go, the Vote 1 app is the best. Political Compass is extremely flawed. Of course you shouldn't solely rely on a quiz to tell you about your beliefs but fwiw I found Vote 1 to be uncannily accurate. It includes ebooks of political philosophy and such so you can use it as a starting point for further research.

Description:
>The Vote 1 political spectrum is not just progressive left wing and right wing, but builds on the work of the political compass to give a two-axis spectrum of political ideology from collectivist (eg communism) to individual and from liberal(eg social democracy) to authoritarian(eg fascism) positions. Similarly, it shows the difference between progressive liberalism and conservative philosophy is not primarily economics, but attitudes to civil liberty. It allows anarcho capitalist and libertarian philosophy to be properly placed as an extension of liberal politics, not of Donald Trump and Republican Party's conservative philosophy. This spectrum also allows for the trains of radical progressive Marxist and communist thought which followed Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin(Luxemburg, Trotsky, Stalin, Mao) to be appropriately separated from liberal positions such as Hillary Clinton's Democratic Party. Similarly, it allows the true direction of national socialism to be identified as a radical reactionary extension of centrist populism to the left of fascist Mussolini, rather than just being radically conservative. The differences between the positions of the Democratic Party of Hillary Clinton, Republican Party of Donald Trump, Libertarian Party of Gary Johnson and Green Party of Jill Stein as well as others like the Constitution Party can be clearly displayed to assist your 2016 election vote for government, president, senate and congress.
Nope... I'll see if I can dig it up for you. Mine's on Android. If I can't find it, it's probably been taken off the Play Store at some point.
EDIT: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sipols.politics&hl=en
EDIT II: Seems the developer is no more. Shame, that. It's a decent app. You can probably pick it up from a third party apk distributor
EDIT III: I can't vouch for the distributor, so proceed with caution, but this listing is the latest version
Esta aplicação é decente e compara a tua posição com a posição dos partidos de vários países, incluindo Portugal. Os partidos parecem-me bem posicionados no espetro político (por exemplo, o PSD não é colocado na social-democracia).
Terms such as "conservative" and "liberal" tend to view politics in a very 1-dimensional fashion.
There's an app I can recommend to you called "Vote 1 - Political Spectrum".
It will ask you a bunch of questions about both social and economic issues, and then place you on a 2-dimensional spectrum, known as a Nolan Chart, based on your answers.
It may be possible that what you think is "centrist" isn't actually centrist at all. From what I can gather, it sounds as if you may be economically centrist, but socially liberal.
Maybe? Sometimes? I dunno. Sounds like what I used to believe, so perhaps you'd find interest in modern American left-libertarianism? Also, though one should obviously not overly rely on a political quiz, I'll mention that I found the Vote 1 app to be uncannily good. Maybe check it out.

Probably come from the app called Vote 1 - Political Spectrum, if you have an Android device you can download the app from here [Google Play Store](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sipols.politics&hl=en&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dvote+1&pcampaignid=APPU_1_BgOxWJDRIIbJ0gSoqbn4CQ
)
As I said before, it's no longer on the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sipols.politics
But here's an apk version of it from the internet: https://m.apkpure.com/vote-1-political-spectrum/com.sipols.politics
The app VoteOne has a political compass quiz with ideologies on it. If you tap the ideologies it gives you a description of them and some reading for that particular ideology.
It's by no means comprehensive, but it could be a good place to start?
Other than that I'd honestly just recommend wikipedia, although it can be a bit dense.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sipols.politics if you're on android.
An app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sipols.politics
That said, I don't consider myself a democratic socialist, more a Social Democrat. I don't support a fully socialist economic model, I am more a fan of keynesian/nordic
Yeah, I personally fall under that category of "right-wing populist" according to Vote 1. I definitely disagree with Trump on this airstrike, and it goes against his campaign promise of isolationism (who talked bad about "going into iraq" again?). Because the supposed "alt-right" isn't that far off from that label of right populism (maybe a couple squares over) it would make sense that these guys share similar thoughts on this.
edit: Ben Garrison states it perfectly.
>Its literally the exact same bullshit the KKK push.
Even if they were going out to "assault people based on what they have to say," saying that doing that is the same as murdering blacks because of their race is a pretty racist opinion.
Fascists have a choice to be fascists. People who call themselves antifascist are people who think that "Jews should be exterminated" isn't a political opinion that deserves debate in the enlightened arena of ideas.
As a Jewish person myself, I'm inclined to agree. That, and a lot of the "anti-Antifa" stuff you see online is cherrypicked by the alt-right and posted to places like Reddit, if not faked entirely.
Horseshoe theory is for people who can't tell the difference between authoritarian and libertarian ideologies. If you have an Android phone, you might want to try Vote 1; it's a survey/political compass app with a pretty decently divided up chart of schools of thought.
There's a huge difference, for instance, between Stalinism and democratic socialism. Stalinism and Nazism are about as authoritarian as it gets, but one is left and one is right; Stalinism and democratic socialism are both about the same amount of "leftist", but democratic socialism would actually be nice to live under, and Stalinism was fuckin' trash. Generally, it's authoritarian governments that tend to be the shitty ones, not leftist governments. This is in part because libertarian governments tend to be smaller and more community-oriented.
(Note when I say "libertarian" I'm referring generally to left libertarianism; the American "Libertarians" coopted the term, and "right libertarian government" is pretty close to an oxymoron.)
I think you have some learning to do! Both anarchists and communists are leftist. Communists tend to be authoritarian leftist and anarchists are libertarian leftists; there are many varieties of both, including anarcho-communists!
If you've got an Android phone, I recommend this app. It's highly educational.
As far as political quizzes go, the Vote 1 app is the best. Political Compass is extremely flawed. OP's result correlates most accurately to some form of libertarian socialism, but they've already indicated in this thread that that's not right. Of course you shouldn't solely rely on a quiz to tell you about your beliefs but fwiw I found Vote 1 to be uncannily accurate. It includes ebooks of political philosophy and such so you can use it as a starting point for further research.

Left and right are essentially one dimensional views of a persons political position. Generallty speaking, the left favours policies which bring about more equality, while the right favours policies which ensure reward for effort and retain what they see as natural heirarchies. However, evaluating political positions on a single axis conflates positions in a whole bunch of different areas. So you end up with the Nazis who were super-authoritarian and right in many areas, but centrist economically being put in the same place on the far-right as libertarian capitalists who have opposite views on social issues.
A good place to start is a 2D political compass quiz like this or this to help you think about where you stand on issues. ABC and Fairfax also have their own, but they are based on the issues being contested in this particular election by the majorish parties (so the Greens are the far left) and so don't really reflect the whole spectrum or generalise very well IMO. These compasses are vast simplifications, but do give you a place to start from.
I've always been a fan of making decisions based almost solely on a party's published policies. It requires some reading, but means you know what you are getting, not just the generalisations and potential bias from a political compass (though heres a couple of those - One, Two) You might want to refine this copypasta down to just the parties running in your electorate:
