not a rpg but you should try badland. it looks astonishing on the amoled screen, plus the game itself is super addicting and fun to play. each lever can be finished from less than a minute to a couple, depending on your skill. also crashlands, of course. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frogmind.badland&hl=en

Badlands. I think there are some microtransactions but they do not effect gameplay in anyway. Maybe just some maps or costume bullshit and for no ads (which are not as annoying as in other games). Great game though.
For me, bests is Badland and Beach Buggy Racing.

Although it's your call on whether you'd consider it violent or not. Personally I wouldn't, but I could appreciate that some might.
I can recommend BADLAND. Best mobile game I've played. Easy to learn, hard as fuck to master. Gorgeous level design and hours of playing. Can be played for 2 minutes on the dump or for half an hour. Starts fast, saves often, runs smoothly. Gets the most out of simple controls (touch anywhere, don't touch anywhere, that's it). Loved it.
Badland. It starts off easy enough, then different obstacles and powerups increase the difficulty. I think it's really fun, so far I'm almost done with day 2. Only downside is that it sucks up quite a bit of battery power.
Great list, here are some more:
Here is a list of some Multiplayer/Coop Android games that works well on the Shield.
Let me know if i forgot something.
Note: there is also lot of emulated games, but here i'm only listing the Android native ones.
No, I did not miss that. In a matter of fact, I gave you the exact number of paying users - 7%.
No, you don't need a really good game. Most of the games in the top (with millions of downloads) are not good games. They use psychology to keep players addicted(like only allowing players to play once every 15 minutes so players have to log in to the game all the time). They force people to advertise the game in social networks to gain lives and attempts. They invest heavily into advertising in a hope to get one of those 7% addicted paying customers. And the end, they are mostly just remakes of already existing really good games.
I understand you point. But it just does not add up. Top 100 best games I ever played in my life did not have microtransactions. Top100 worst games did. And developers of these games did not bother to make their game better. They just kept adding more microtransactions. I'm serious, 90% of mobile games are total and utter trash. Actually, make it 95%.
Again, I understand that you personally care about what you are doing. But most mobile developers don't. They know that no matter how bad their game is they can always trick user to install it using some sort of ad exchange framework where users download games to gain ingame currency in other games. They are not motivated to spend thousands of work-hours to polish the game. Nice design, nice promo video, nicely made characters and animations simplistic gameplay to addict player fast... and paywall after few days/hours of playing.
On the other hand developers who release paid games actually care about the quality of their games. Otherwise it won't get positive reviews, won't sell and they'll run out of business. The average quality of paid games is way higher than the quality of microtransactions games.
So again, microtransactions make money, but they rarely produce quality stuff. Like one out of thousand? 10 thousands? Funny enough, the best game I played on mobile, Badland did not use microtransactions.
Benefits:
Down-sides
For me, I am very happy with my Shield TV. I regret not buying the 500GB version, as Portal, Asphalt 8:Airborne, and 10 other tiny games have me down to 1GB free. I still have time, and will return it for the upgrade. I wish more of my friends used the Google Play Games platform, as these games are actually very entertaining, but hard to have the social element. I only wanted it for the media playing capability, but the gaming really sucked me in more than I expected. Badland, Asphalt 8: Airborne, Bike Rivals, Leo's Fortune, Bomb Squad are a few of the titles I have been engrossed with.
Badland is a fun one! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frogmind.badland
I'll answer this in a different manner. I'll tell you what I love about Android and my Android phone: LG Nexus 5.
Android is more open source than iOS. Developers can mess around with the OS and take advantage of more aspects of the OS as compared to iOS. I use Facebook Messenger and chatheads which is great for multi-tasking. On Android, the chatheads can be placed on top of any app, but on iOS, they are only active within the Facebook app. Also, Flynx.
On Android, I can choose different apps for certain actions. For example, if I would like to open a youtube link, my phone asks me with which app I would like to open it and gives me a list. You can set default apps so you don't have to go through that list again. Android allows me to choose my default apps which means that I can choose my own browser, dialer, messenger, camera. If you were to open a webpage link on iOS, it would automatically open in Safari. You would have to copy and paste the link into another browser, which is tiring.
Quick settings are awesome. You can also connect to wifi and bluetooth networks via quick settings. I'm not sure if iPhones have the 'rotation lock' option, but it's extremely useful to me.
Google Now. The command "Ok Google" can be used inside any app whenever I need something. On the Moto X, "Ok Google" can be used even when the phone is locked. Google Now is becoming better in the future version of Android with a feature called Now on Tap.
Launchers are awesome! Even though I use the default launcher (Google Now Launcher), there are many other launchers with tons of customisation. You can change icons, set gestures and actions, install themes etc. Some of them are Nova Launcher, Apex Launcher, Action Launcher. Watch videos about these launchers. You will understand how customisation is on Android.
On Android, you can easily get paid apps for free as you can allow the phone to install apps downloaded from 'Unknown sources'. I know this is wrong and it's basically stealing, but it's still something I like about Android. I've also noticed some apps that are free on Android but not on iOS. Badland, for example is one of my favourite mobile games and it's free. . . on Android.
Tasker. 'nuff said.
HOME AUTOMATION !!!!!
Android Lollipop is beautiful! This is subjective, but man, that design is just WOW! Watch this video about Lollipop and see how awesome it is.
Widgets are very useful. No need to open an app to get specific information. Also allows for great customisation.
Now, about the LG Nexus 5: It's fairly cheap. It's not too big (5.2" I think). To me, it's the perfect screen size. The design is slick. I like the soft touch back. The buttons feel premium. Overall it's a nice phone. The most important thing is that it's a Google phone. Google has promised to deliver all future updates to it's phones if the hardware meets the minimum requirements. Manufacturers usually don't update all their phones even though they meet the requirements. If you want updates, buy a Nexus. The Nexus 5 was released in October 2013 and today it runs the latest version of Android. Nexus phones also have vanilla Android, which is a stock version of Android that has not been customised by manufacturers to add value or differentiate from others. It's pure Android as it was meant to be.
However, some customised versions of Android have useful features that stock Android does not have. You will have to watch phone reviews to make sure you get the right phone. If you ask me, it's worth the effort as a phone is an important investment when your budget is limited.
I might update this comment when I think of other things to add.
It's on mobile as well as PC

Most of these have been mentioned already but these are the ones I can personally vouch for. I added links for the lazy.
The following are "actually free" on Amazon Underground.^1
MONUMENT VALLEY Google | Amazon
These are regularly priced games:
ENIGMATIS Google | Amazon -- not everyone likes Hidden Object Adventures. I liked this one and it was easy to pick up and put down. Several Artifex Mundi games are "actually free" at Amazon.
^1 I am sure most folks know this but just in case...You do not need an Amazon tablet to be able to use Android apps from Amazon Underground.
Edit, thought i was on shield tablet =)

It looks a lot like Badland.
TOP FREE: Badland The Quest Keeper Love the graphics and the atmosphere. Soft Pixel Dungeon Softer Pixel Dungeon. Get the original Pixel Dungeon if you feel like tinkering around with it.
TOP PAID: Lifeline (I'm a huge fan of this thing. Even though it's short. Quality time there) Monument Valley Scribblenauts Remix
TOP GEMS: CYTUS (As I got the link, I also noticed it has some quite decent backawards compatibility - Android 2.3 and up!) Dots Ingress (few play it but DO TRY IT OUT)
Reminds me of Badland, but with color.
Thanks, been looking for some good games.
I'd highly recommend Badland. It's extremely addictive. Kind of a side-scrolling platform/physics game with adorable little...um...I don't know what they are.
