This is a really good one.
I used to have an app that let you put together sounds to sleep to. Kind of like a customised version of one of those "sounds of nature" CD's. You could set intervals and add as many sounds as you wanted. I used to live right next to the shore, so when I moved this was always in my mix. That and the sound of thunder and rain, and the sound of an old church bell.
For anyone in this thread looking for some ear porn this is one of the apps I used to use from the Google play store.
I currently use Ambio.

What I love about it is that not only can you build your own "mixtape" using their collection of individual sounds that you can download or ones that come pre-installed, but you can adjust volume level of each track, as well as frequency of how often each track is triggered. All the tracks play at once so you can add in a thunderstorm on top of a river on top of crickets, and arrange the loudness of each track. You're essentially making the perfect soothing sound.
The annoyances i have with it, is that it isn't very "Marshmallowy" and i can't pause/stop the sounds from the notification tray if i have it running in the background. Other than that, i love it.
OP's app looks pretty good, but it's barebones. And it's freaking white!! If i'm trying to get to sleep, it needs to be dark themed.
I realize this doesn't directly answer your question about YouTube, but the app I use for this is Ambio. Lots of great white noise choices and as far as I know it will play indefinitely.

Edit: big plus, unlike YouTube, you don't need a subscription to turn the screen off.
Ambio is pretty cool. There are a lot of included sounds, and it lets you mix your own sounds from music you have on your device or downloaded elsewhere. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.happyexabytes.ambio
Thanks for the recommendations. I've thought about switching back to a physical fan for white noise. I do use Ambio on my Android phone quite a bit. In particular, I love the "Starship" sound set, with spacy synth wash sounds, and nice low steady roar of the Starship engines.
If your job isn't very physical, a workout in the evening is good. But you should probably do it at least 3 hours before bed.
Get a blue light filter app for any phone or tablet you might use.
Don't know if any TVs have such a setting, but many TVs have various colour presets (movie, video game &c), you can probably customise one to reduce blue light.
Don't eat close to bed time. It's healthier anyway. Avoid caffeine for at least 4 hours before bed.
Set yourself a firm bedtime.
Build yourself a pre-bed ritual, bathing makeup removal (if you're of the female, metro or clown persuasion).
Routine helps set the body's clock. Once you've trained yourself in you pre-bed ritual, starting it will help your over active mind to prepare itself to wind down.
It's summer now, so maybe not relevant, but warm milk, a warm shower/bath (followed by immediately getting into PJs and under cover) help some people. Or, if showers make you more alert, putting your PJs in the dryer to warm them up helps other people.
Personally, I have a few sleep playlists I play when I go to bed. Relaxing stuff.
I've also had some good experiences with white/ambient noise apps. I like the ones with "womb" sounds, or heartbeats, or trains. (Lately I've been using Ambio with Heartbeat, Latin Whispers and something with a bassy rhythmic drone.)
Like I said about the pre-bed ritual part, if I know I'm too wired before going to bed, I'll play a sleepy time playlist or and ambient mix while I relax in bed and read or play (spider) solitaire or some other relaxing activity. The playlist or ambient mix tells my mind it should be sleeping and helps me wind down.
I really like Ambio, you can't stream it that I know of, however you could just stream your whole screen and the noise should carry over. Though it should be noted that Ambio has a built in sleep timer.
I use Ambio on Android for sleep but it can be tweaked and customised for other purposes. It's the successor to the brilliant LightningBug
Yeah, I was thinking of the white noise generator, too, but I actually prefer brown noise... I just didn't want to mention it, because of the association. <_<
(Ambio is a great phone app for custom noise loops, btw. Just tossin' that out there.)
Or Ambio
Umm Ambio has some visualization functionality but I'm not sure about casting lights or anything.
Could you compare this to something like ambio?
