Have you tried something like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autostart&hl=en
Here's the APK to download and transfer by USB drive (Fire TV box) or ADB (Fire TV stick):
If you use a router for your local network, in addition to your phone hotspot for internet, perhaps you can block the Fire TV from accessing the outside internet at all via the router? Then you wouldn't get network connectivity changes, it would just be off the whole time. Hopefully it would be a fairly easy switch too, so you could bookmark that page of your router settings and toggle it on of off as needed.
I don't know much about root (I only have the Fire Stick), but I sideloaded AutoStart to launch Kodi on startup -- you still have the Fire OS underneath, and you'd be subject to the same network connectivity messages etc., but at least it skips the clunky Fire OS main screen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autostart&hl=en
I've always used Auto Start. It's a very old but effective app that has always worked on my Amazon devices in the past.
I don't recall if it was available in the Amazon app store, but it probably isn't. A quick search led me to this apk you can download and manually install.
Have you looked into this? Disclaimer: I haven't tried this app personally, but if it works as advertised then if minimizing isn't an option I'm sure auto input could finish the task
You can! There's a 'Start on boot' option in DIG's settings, if you have any issue with that you can download the Auto Start app on playstore and then set it to DIG.

for some tablets at work i need some apps to auto start i used this
guess its not the best solution but might help you till you find a proper solution
There are some apps for normal Android for example; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autostart&hl=nl
You can maybe download the APK file and install it with ADB on your watch. I have installed phone apps on my watch like this before
Many apps, including skype, have Web based counterparts which you can pin and open as "web apps". That would be a possible alternative.
How much RAM does your Chromebook currently have?
Full RAM usage isn't a bad thing, as "free RAM is wasted RAM", but I have noticed that just booting with 2 start-up Android apps considerably slows down the overall login time. It's possible that the apps themselves are not optimised currently, but considering Android apps are in Beta I wouldn't recommend having too many on start-up.
You may look at this too: AutoStart - No root
Slightly off topic: I recently mentioned Wire to a Skype user. More lightweight, same features(mostly), and more secure and private(considering Skype's serious security issues). They tried it, and AFAIK have been using it, so may be worth a try.
There's an Amazon fire TV app, I needed to use an APK downloader to get it as I'm not in USA. Remote works fine from phone. There is also an app called autostart which apparently works on fire TV, according to another redditor.

I unfortunately can't try yours until after you can, it's drinking day here in Canada.
Ftv1 or 2? Shouldn't matter but just in case.
Wake Lock made my phone usable again and I agree it's a stop gap, but it will be my only stop gap until I get a new phone =]
The app works really well and I dont even notice any extra battery drain. The only thing I wish Wake Lock did was start on boot but to be fair I havent tried using the AutoStart app as a fix for this yet (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autostart&hl=en)
Get a cheap 'house server' or use your main PC (or even a raspberry pi), set up a webserver, and serve out all the pics to all the tablets in the house.
Use a webpage with a meta-refresh tag to go to the next page/image.
That should handle all the cinemagraphs in gif/mp4 formats I think.
And a quick google, looks like can use something like this; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autostart&hl=en
To start up the browser and default to a fixed webpage that then starts the cycle.
You could use an app like AutoStart to start AirDroid on boot so it runs in the background. I like AirDroid because there's no middleman (there can be if you use web.airdroid.com, but it isn't required) like with Pushbullet.
You can use third party autostart apps, although they won't work as well as accessibility mode.

Yes you can. But with Android 5 try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autostart or Autoruns.
try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.autostart&hl=en i use it on tablets and works just fine.
Quickly searching, I found Autostart - No root. I haven't tried it, but maybe it's the type of thing you're looking for?
This might work.
I just use AutoStart to launch FFBE since it's the only reason I have MEmu.

> I wonder if there's any workaround?
AutoStart - No root will auto-start any app added to its list. Easy to use, no ads.

quick fix, turn of all downloaded applications
Thank you so much for the offer!

Unfortunately, the VNC server app I use is "no longer available in my country" I can still download it from the "My Apps" page of Google Play because we previously downloaded it but you won't be able to.
If you happen to know of any VNC server that does work or have time to test a few for a complete stranger I'd appreciate the effort!
No rush at all, I appreciate even the offer. =)
Edit:
I was able to get the APK of the VNC Server App. It's free, just not available in US anymore. Here's the link to my google drive share. Not sure if I'm breaking any rules. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6Ub44UZYRtITUlXMnZSZXRiY00
I think autostart will suffice. It's simple and seems to do this. Thank you.
You mean something like this?
