Here is the link, You need to do a bit of cleaning like removing categories you won't use (it can all be done in the settings of the launcher). Might make a vid if it's too difficult for anyone but the process it's pretty easy and straight foward.

They have a case they sell separately that should work. I didn't like the color so I'm looking for a different one, though.
Based on the dimensions, I ordered this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0837QFFRZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. I think it is going to be a tight squeeze, though, if it fits at all. My Retroid Pocket 2 is still on the way and if it doesn't fit, I'll have to find a different case...
This is FIRST CLASS reading material!! I was wondering about this myself, although I haven’t read through this whole thing I see you put a lot of research into this. My question is I was about to purchase the SanDisk Extreme Pro with it’s read speed at up to 170 mb/s, is the Evo + you recommend better because of the way the programmed or made those sd cards?
That's the only one I've seen as well. I looked for more options and found out that the Pocket 2 is pretty close to the size of a Nintendo 3DS, so I decided to get this case instead because the design is more minimalist.
Thank you everyone for the compliments! She made it using a hard drive case we got on Amazon that fit the Retroid Pocket 2 like a glove. She added the design using permanent vinyl that she cut with her Cricut Air Explore 2. The SVG files were created from PNG glyphs found online.
She does not plan on selling any of these, but the compliments are really appreciated! It was just a small gift :)
I married the right woman!
Lots of folks looking for the link to the case we used! Here you go! Amazon Link
Your frustration is normal. Setting up is a frustrating process, but I assure it's worth it. So...
It sounds like you have a Retroarch issue (whis is SUPER common on the RP2).
You can troubleshoot this by downloading alternate emulators to run in to DIG. For instance try running your SNES ROMs on this emulator:
https://apkpure.com/snes9x-ex/com.explusalpha.Snes9xPlus (this is not the Retroarch core)
It's what use for dig and it works great.
If you updated Retroarch with Android 6, it will misbehave or not work. This is because the developers specifically designed that version for Android 8 and above. You should be running 1.8.4
Ahh I see, that package with the stock files has two versions of RetroArch because the GBA core (gpsp) didn't worked with recent versions but it has been fixed recently, both of these versions are outdated.
If your don't want to update your existing installation of RetroArch then you have to play your GBA games using the other version that gets installed, it's called gpsp and it has only that core installed.
If you want to update you can get the latest version from here, grab the stable version that's what I've been using. I've installed and configured it manually so maybe you'll need to do the same if it doesn't carriers over the default configuration from the stock files.
Boy that’s cause the emulator is avoiding any lawsuit against Nintendo with piracy 🤣 Here’s a website I know of that has 165 top gba roms https://cdromance.com/gba-roms/165-roms-pack/ and if your missing some of your favs from there here’s a website to look for them https://www.freeroms.com/gba_roms.htm
Latest stable release asked me to allow storage access and with it I was able to navigate to root folder of RP2 and select external SD card. https://pegasus-frontend.org/#downloads
I use 7zip https://www.7-zip.org/download.html
I would decompress them just to save yourself from having to transfer them twice if you find out the emulator needs them decompressed.
You can select all your zipped files and choose “extract here” and it will put the contents of all the zip files straight into the directory their sitting in without putting them in their own folders. Or you could choose “extract to /*” or something like that, and it will put the contents of each zip into its own folder named after the zip.
Either option should work fine.
Yep, all you need to download the P8 Player App from the Play Store. There may be some lag persistent in a few games (I know Celeste Classic jitters specifically) but there's nothing really unplayable and as long as you load up your games from the Pico-8 site everything should be fine.
If you already ordered it, it's a good choice. That one has more compatibility as the Xbox branded one is Android + Bluetooth/wired only.
The "SN30 Pro Controller for Xbox Cloud Gaming" (without clip) is $10 cheaper and comes with newer internals. The main difference is it comes only in black, has Xbox colored/lettered face buttons, is officially licensed by Microsoft for Xbox Cloud, does NOT have the X-input/D-input switch (android mode only), and most importantly has Firmware 2.0, and can work with 8bitdo's Ultimate Control Software for remapping buttons, programming macros, etc.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0929K9W4N/
If you don't care about Firmware 2.0/Ultimate Software its probably not worth switching. It's like a $8 difference, but doing returns/exchanges is kinda a hassle.

This ☝🏻
What I use is this one from Amazon Canada, but I've also seen this one on Amazon US. Haven't tried the second one but the first one is a good slim fit.
Also at first I bought the official Retroid case and I hate It, idk it might just be me, but it's much bulkier / thicker than it needs to be and doesn't even hold the rp2 perfectly. But other people love it so idk! I also never carry anything else with mine so I didn't need that space
Look up Glycon on Amazon. They make a perfect case for the RETROID. It’s decently priced too!
Edit: not specifically made for the RETROID but it fits perfectly. See it here.
Someone else recommended the official Retroid case but as someone who also prefers slim cases, it is NOT what you're looking for. It's way bulkier / thicker than it needs to be. What I use is this one from Amazon Canada, but I've also seen this one on Amazon US. Haven't tried the second one but the first one is a good slim fit.
If you like either of these hopefully the shipping isn't too bad or you can try your luck with searching for something similar on eBay or AliExpress also
Ok scratch what I said. I fiddled with it more: •Buffered rendering on •Simulate block transfer off •frame skipping 2 •auto frame skip on •postprocessing shader off •spline/Bezier curves low
I find it makes the left stick a bit easier to use as well as just looking cool. The right stick cover is mostly cosmetic, if anything it may even inhibit movement a bit.

Look for a cheap grip designed for the New 3DS XL and see if it works for you. I am using this:
https://www.amazon.com/Gadget-Coating-Nintendo-New-3DS-LL/dp/B013JDH8AE
It doesn't fit perfectly but it relieves stress on my hands and I already had it lying around. I would not spend $100 on it obviously but you should be able to find a cheaper alternative on ebay that you can modify for your own needs.
One above is a sequel of this one with klickable buttons (40€ with shipment to Germany) https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Armor-Case-Nintendo-3DS-Retro/dp/B07PHQ9MH9/ref=mp_s_a_1_28?dchild=1&keywords=nintendo+3ds+xl+case&qid=1601997136&sprefix=nintendo+3ds+XL+&sr=8-28
If you plan on switching SD cards.. the stock 32bg comes with files, you have to transfer those files on to the card you plan on using on your pc.
this is what the wiki says about SDcards.
I bought this SD card on amazon and I had no problem at all.. IT was so simple all I did was copy the files from the stock SD card and transfer it to the one I just brought from amazon.
Link to the SD card I bought on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XFS5657/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's not available anymore but this is the one I got:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NXY2J3S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_6-2MFb0H4WVH2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I was surprised that it is actually the version with the 60hz screen. The stock firmware sucked, but a flash of RetroFW 2.2 fixed it right up.
I have this one, fits perfectly and is stiff enough to properly protect the screen. I wouldn't put anything hard in the pouch inside with it.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y49N2X8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Here's the Play Store link - I've been using it for years, mostly on rooted devices, but it works really well on the RP2 as well! Check it out
The RP2 is 150mm x 81mm x 17mm
The "New" 3DS is 142mm x 80.6mm x 21.6mm
Knowing this, I ordered a very minimalist case for myself. But there are plenty of other options if you know where to look.
Unfortunately i cant seem the find the 128GB Samsung pro+ on UK's amazon page but did find the Evo plus variant Samsung EVO Plus 128 GB (tho i may get the 256gb version), so i guess ill just for that. Thank you for this post, very helpful.
Another vote for the Evercade carry case. It's almost as if it was designed for the 3/3+, it's a perfect fit, and the front pocket is nice for a pair of wired earbuds.
I don't have an RP3/3+ - is the USB-C port for data, or charging only? If it accepts peripherals, you could try plugging in an Apt-X Low Latency adapter. They're small and there's tons of them for the Switch. I have this one.
Then with an appropriate pair of Apt-X-LL headphones (you'll probably have to buy a pair, but there's affordable options) - blammo, the latency becomes very close to imperceptible.
That is, if the USB-C port supports audio devices like that.
You should be good with any modern microSD card, so long as you buy a name brand (Sandisk, Samsung, Kingston, Lexar).
Size obviously depends on the size of your ROM library and how much PS1 and above you want to have at your fingertips. 128GB is serviceable if you don't have a lot, or plan to swap games every so often. I bought this 256GB card, which is on sale at $25. Samsung EVO is a few bucks less (I think the cheapest it's ever been on the current sale). You can also currently get a 512GB card for under $50.
I bought this one. My RP3 fits perfectly in it. I just wish the net/mesh thing on the top part ran horizontally instead of vertically. I also think the current price is too much. It was cheaper when I bought it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NRF63C2
You can also try looking for PS Vita cases that have similar corners as the Vita is the same size minus the corners being more rounded off.
Yes! You’ll need a mini HDMI to HDMI cable and a compatible Bluetooth controller (I use an 8bitdo Pro 2, and it’s great). I also have an mClassic device to upscale the graphics, but that’s not necessary to get running.
One thing I wish I’d known, and that would have saved me a LOT of time and frustration, is to turn your TV to “game mode” if that’s supported. I was getting horrible controller latency, and this put an end to it.
Good luck, have fun!
It would be something like this but I heard it could cause permeation which could damage my system
Retroid Pocket 3 is bigger in width and height than the RP2 despite being slightly slimmer, so the cases that may work on RP2 will probably not work for RP3. When looking check the *interior* dimensions of a case and c compare these against the actual device. On Amazon, they usually list these in inches so you need to convert.
Here they are for convenience:
mm | inches | |
---|---|---|
Wide | 184.65 | 7.27 |
Tall | 81.38 | 3.20 |
Thick | 24.23 | 0.95 |
I'm also still looking for a great option myself. Haven't seen it yet. Nearly everything is too small. The closest I have found this this, but its a bit wide.
yeah i bought it and it's way too big/too much depth.
i then bought the evercade one and it fits great, all evercade cases apparently fit the RP3 well: Amazon
It's a retroarch feature so unless the individual Android emulators support it or unless a Linux port of Batocera gets made for this device I dunno. You can read about the retroarch bit here. Maybe you can set the Android port of Retroarch to be the default launcher somehow? It does exist in the Play Store.
If I can remember correctly, you need to flip between Skip Buffer Effects and Buffered Rendering at certain points of the game. This video might be helpful, its for the RG552 but that also uses PPSSPP
Ok then it seems that I will stick to my current power bank of 5 volts. Then of course I charge it with USB and not USB-C.
This powerbank is at 2.1A but that is not a problem I think?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intenso-Portable-Charger-10000mAh-Compatible-Black/dp/B07Z8DF4DG?th=1
I also got this but warning in that I dunno how well it will fit yet - only one reviewer noted on it that their RP3 fit but was definitely tight width wise
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DUDPKVW?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details
they look like hidden files on the drive, in windows turn on 'show hidden files' and delete, they should go away.
alternatively you could use an alternative (imo better) launcher, daijishou.
I'd like to recommend my own game that I just ported to Android a couple weeks ago. The game is called Knightblade, and it's a retro open world RPG. I ported it from Windows (it's also on Steam), and made sure that on Android there are no ads or in-app purchases. As a developer I'm strongly opposed to that kind of business, I believe in "buy it and own it for life". Also, the game works great with the built-in gamepad controls or touch screen. Hope you check it out!
The one game I'd tell people to chuck on their RP3 is the Android version of Coromon. It feels like it was built specifically for it. Controls map perfectly and it uses the full screen to great effect. To boot it's also a pretty good spin on the Pokemon formulae.
GBA: Advance Wars. I've also been having a lot of fun smashing through megaman battle network, but there's a Switch port of that coming soon so I'm sort of torn on how I should be playing it. Will be picking up the legit copy either way though.
PS1: Speed Freaks (Speed Punks for the Americans out there)
PS2 emulation: I'm adding this one as a bit of a surprise because everyone's written off the PS2 as being viable, but there are a couple games out there that are perfectly playable. I've been running Final Fantasy 10, with no tweaking on the emulator at all, and it's been great! Frame dips at the start of big boss encounters but that's about it.
I use self-adhesive felt sheets that are commonly referred to as "drawer liners" or "jewelry box liners". The ones I use are 0.8mm thick, you could probably go a little thicker or thinner and still be okay. Something like this.
There are also a couple apps on the store which give you much more control over the stream quality, though you have to pay to remove ads, and the interface isn't as nice: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.studio08.xbgamestream.xbox.game.stream.remote.play
I had intended to buy the one sold on the Retroid website, but forgot to add it to my order when I bought the RP3.
So I bought this one after someone linked it in a previous thread about cases. The RP3 fits perfectly without needing to modify it. Although I wish the net/mesh thing ran longways instead.
https://www.amazon.com/WERJIA-Carrying-Compatible-CredevZone-Eilflame/dp/B09NRF63C2
That’s a CARRYING case, you silly goose. I already have that exact same one. I am talking about a PROTECTIVE case. Something akin to this:
That’s what I’m looking for, but for my RP2+. I guess my post was TLDR huh?
They sell them on amazon. Also retroid has sold the same case since the original retroid pocket 2 which works for the 2+ so I don’t know how you went that long without knowing.
The one that you can buy on the store is a bit big IMO, made for a switch lite.
I use an old Vita padded slip on case, it's awesome albeit less protection: Amazon
I grabbed this one from amazon and it's really solid. There are cheaper ones, but I browsed for a while before picking it and I'm happy with it. The zipper glides well and there's no ugly branding anywhere on the case. The handle is thin but feels pretty sturdy, and the RP3 fits comfortably in either half of the case with about 1/4" of breathing room around it. The interior strap is good and, most importantly, not too tight. So it's easy to slide the handheld in-and-out, or you can just store it on top of the strap if you don't want the seatbelt on.
If you care about UI as much as you indicate, try the new Frontend called Daijishou. I see a lot of suggestions for Reset Collection and Dig and others but honestly those are waaaaay uglier than Retroarch's UI (which I think looks clean and has about 4 different themes btw). They are seriously fugly and the devs should address it by bringing in qualified designers. So I personally can't stand how Reset, Dig and how some Standalone apps look - but Daijishou has clearly been designed by someone with professional Graphic Design sensibilities. It's still missing some features I'd like (not many), but is currently the only Frontend I'd recommend from and visual pov.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.magneticchen.daijishou&hl=en&gl=US
Check out Retro Game Corps' Retroid Pocket 3 Starter Guide . It's pretty extensive and he also links to two separate other guides, one for Retroarch, and one for Android in general. He has written guides as well on his site. I'm not sure how useful they will be without the device in front of you, as they are kind of information dense and without something to follow along you might get lost or disinterested, hah.
The Retroid Launcher that comes on the device is pretty nice. You may decide to just use that, but personally I've been trying out Daijishō the past few days and I'm really digging it, so check that out too.
Hope your device arrives soon!

You can probably find it cheaper on ebay or aliexpress.
Works pretty well except that I have to take it out of the grip to use the volume and home buttons.
I also used a knife to trim a bit of the padding from left and right side of the grip so it wouldn't press on those buttons while in the grip.

This other Evercade case might also work, although I would be hesitant to buy until someone tests it.

I saw somewhere that cases for the Evercade fit perfectly, I've ordered this for mine:
Stay away from the new Samsung cards - specifically the ones with A2 written on them. These new cards are actually slower than the previous generation, and no faster than an equivalent Sandisk card. Currently the best option is the red Evo Plus cards which are identical to the green Evo Select cards, but cheaper.

retroid reduced to copying anbernic knock offs. and the only games shown are old ones. many companies cut corners and lose customers. many such cases. sad
This is a known issue for the Retroid Launcher since the release of 1.9.0.0 firmware.
I'd suggest moving over to a better front end such as Daijishou. While I haven't tried it I've heard good things about Reset Collection
Nobody here saying DIG??? I equate "easy" with free, of course things are simplified & people pay premiums for scaled back experiences... But DIG is both easy, and advanced as you'd like it to be! It's an emulator frontend, that you can run native emulator apps, or Retroarch backing. ... Remove unwanted Groups / Screens from the selection, if you'd like, or add what Collections or what you need. And oh yeah, IT'S FREE!!!
I highly recommend it, hopefully you can child-proof/friendly it up, though a quick menu alteration & running RA in kiosk mode, you should be covered! Check it out, and if not, hopefully you can still enjoy it yourself!

Sorry, don't know what else to suggest but the following two apps.
SuperFreezZ https://f-droid.org/packages/superfreeze.tool.android/
Greenify https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&hl=en_US&gl=US
Maybe you could use either of them to try and "unfreeze" your settings app.
Good luck!
Amazon has the official Retroid case with 2 screen protectors and you don't have to wait 2 weeks. Also, I have the official case and one thing that is cool is it has a molding on the bottom part that you push the Retroid device into that keeps it from moving. It is really nice.
Here is the link to it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Q2WP4LZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I grabbed mine at amazon
This has been an issue for the Retroid Launcher ever since 1.9 was introduced.
You can manually edit but honestly I'd suggest switching over to another launcher like Daijishou or Reset Collection.
Or simply use Retroarch's built-in playlist system.
I usually use this for anything I need to prop up, it holds the RP2+ just fine and it’s pretty sturdy. There’s also angle adjustable versions from different resellers (a lot of them are most likely coming from the same manufacturer so just choose whatever’s cheapest)
Mine took two weeks to get to USA West Coast. I'd get it from Amazon as you'll probably pay more upfront but less in shipping and you'll get it quicker.
Plano 3440-10
amazon.com/dp/B00469G31G
I have it on now. I wanted a tough waterproof case for cheap for my phone/wallet for things, and I figured I'd try to find on with dimensions that might fit the Retroid, and the Plano was <$6. Latches might be slower than zippers for opening. Barely fits around the Retroid, but decent space for padding screen/sticks and rear. Scavenged some foam (not styrofoam) packing material for padding.
I prefer faster access with bump/squish protection, so when I have time I'll go to my old standby of finding a snap-lid plastic food container about the same size as the Plano, adding padding, and using a big enough hair elastic as a bit of insurance.
The food container idea was my eventual solution to packing gamepads with protruding sticks, being inexpensive (or even as only) options, and they tend to be more compact than EVA cases when custom fitted EVA cases were even available.
Here's the case I used as a hard shell - any cushioned version of this would be a win in my book:

All jokes aside, I do like my devices to have a bit of weight. My joke might not be a bad idea
I personally would go for a 5v2a just to be safe but u can use higher amps like 5v3a or 5v4a because the amps delivered are decided by the device and not the charger, if the device needs 2 amps it will only draw 2 amps. but the 15w scares me a bit so i would avoid myself, i bough this https://www.amazon.ca/Pofesun-Foldable-Portable-Compatible-More-White/dp/B0881KM5HF/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2RDGGUDUTQM1R&keywords=usb+wall+charger+charger+adapter+pofesun+dual&qid=1653550040&s=electronics&sprefix=usb+wall+charger+charger+... and it fits nicely in the retroid case and is super slim!2 ports as well!

It is a shame that it's $150, but 2-day Prime shipping and the generous Amazon return policy is nice.

My ETA is 22nd. I guess it's a new arrival so your ETA is the end of the month?
Just want to share this info.
I so wanted to play retro games on my TV via HDMI out--basically, your exact setup... but the input delay killed it for me.
I've since switched to using my Samsung phone (Galaxy s10e) for retro emulation on my TV via Samsung Dex via this hub simple, cheap hub: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08V3PHKR8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
I paired my PS4 controller to my phone and there is ZERO input delay between the controller and what I see on my TV. So far, it's all working flawlessly!
I struggled so much in the past trying to get good HDMI out on my old RG350P and then my RP2+... Never again. Samsung Dex is the way to go for sure.
Just FYI, Amazon sells them…

Sorry, I am always hesitant to put links in to posts like this, in case someone thinks I'm a shill pushing the product, but if anybody else wants to give it a go, here you go. I tried a bunch of them and while I liked how Pegasus looked, the lack of built in scraping killed it for me. RESET needs more skins, something I suspect the developer is very aware of, but the functionality can't be beat
Ok, you mean a black thin lines on a diagonal? You have to change the default settings on mode from "Buffered Rendering" to "Skip Buffer Effects (non-buffered, Faster)" I haven't met any slowdowns always at 100%, that could be due to some other setting you changed, or maybe it's your SD card. Tell me how it goes.
