I use Folder Sync over WiFi. The first time it syncs, it may take some time, but after that it only syncs changes. I have a schedule set up to sync each night. It provides error reporting and logging if there are issues with the transfer.
any alternative to folder sync to automatically sync certain folders from cloud services (owncloud/webdav) to my device?
Preferably a good filemanager should be integrated too. Especially something with a good design would be nice.
Its not unknown, but I've never seen it mentioned on this subreddit. Folder Sync. Syncs local files with almost any cloud storage of your choice
You can set the syncing interval, 1way or 2 way, destination cloud or local folder, etc. Very helpful to backup PDFs I get through whatsapp.
The android app suuuuuuuuuuuuucks for syncing. It's unreliable, buggy, and only one way. The amount of times I've had it simply not detect files. For accessing your stuff, or for manually throwing something to your cloud, it's great, but the auto-sync feature is basically useless.
Use foldersync, instead, it supports nextcloud and has FAR better syncing, and is miles and miles more configurable.
As for performance, your nextcloud instance will probably tell you, go to settings>administration>overview. There might be a list of things that can be done to improve the servers functionality/performance.
I personally use FolderSync, which can be setup to backup files to a network drive. Also, you can set it on a schedule with conditions (ie, must be connected to wifi, between the hours of 6-8)
The official android app only is one-way sync. Meaning from your phone to nextcloud.
If you want to reverse it (nextcloud to phone) or 2-way sync, you would need to look for a onofficial app. Basically any app that supports webdav.
I used Folder Symc for this a while ago, did the job. Has built-in Nextcloud support.
Hi, I know this is a Tasker Subreddit, but I feel that sometimes its easier to use an app that was created for one distinct purpose and I use Folder Sync (pro) for a similar task, I use it to sync up my local music folder with one saved on my NAS (amongst other things.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en
I use Folder Sync (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en_US), and set it on a schedule. It has the nice advantage that you can sync any folder and not just photos. I don't know if it will set up that structure you're asking for, but it appears to have a "copy files to time-stamped folder" option when specifying a sync-pair.
Retroarch has a learning curve, but I've converted to it for all my SNES, GBA and PSX games on the go and at home.
I store my Save files in OneDrive so I can easily sync the folder on my phone to it, and then using Retroarch on my PC, point it to the Saves folder in my OneDrive and pick up where I left off.
To do a two-way sync with a folder on your phone to a cloud storage, I use FolderSync. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
As for controllers, I use an 8bitdo SF30 Pro on Bluetooth on my phone and then plug it into my PC when I get home. Easy.
Nevermind. I was going to write an app but it looks like there is already a free app that does this. Check out Folder Sync Lite. Just need to specify which folder contains your photos that need to be synced.
Ninja edit because i called it "foto sync" instead of "folder sync"
There is an app called FolderSync that does that. You can setup a source folder to sync and a remote target location and sync options (direction etc.)
After that it's just one push of a button to sync, or you can configure periodic syncing etc.
I use it to regularly backup my photos: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Try using an app like FolderSync. You can setup a Dropbox folder that syncs to a local folder on your Note Air. Then open the PDF in NeoReader and edit natively. Your changes will be saved locally and then FolderSync will re-upload the file to your Dropbox. It's not perfect, but it works fairly well.
I dunno how well Obsidian's own paid syncing service works with cloud folders since I haven't paid for that, but I guess the next best thing is to sync the cloud vault with the local copy on the mobile device
I've managed to use FolderSync to sync my vault on OneDrive with a local folder on my Android, and apparently this should work with other storage options like Dropbox and GDrive
There's FolderSync to do full directories, but I'm not sure if that will work with your organization scheme.
I wish it had a file whitelisting feature.
<strong>FolderSync Pro</strong>: Automatically or manually, two-way or one-way, Sync any local folders to any folders on the cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and others).
It works as advertised… at least on Google drive.
I use FolderSync to backup my whole Internal Memory / SD card to my NAS every night at 3am. I have the Full (Paid) version, but I think the Lite version might be sufficient for what you need.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full
FolderSync
Try the lite version
You can use Tasker with the full version for triggering backups when you are connected to your home network etc.
I had this same problem! Folder Sync works perfectly - you can set it up to sync daily or hourly or whenever, tweak the settings for e.g. wifi only, one way sync etc and then it just works! The paid version removes the ads and allows multiple cloud accounts.
I just use FolderSync on phone and freefilesync on desktop and make it sync music folder from my SMB server.
If you are looking for mobile solution then at least for Android there are many options in F-Droid store.
Pick one that stores db locally and sync files to nextcloud with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
You should look at FolderSync. Besides its Tasker compatibility it's a versatile tool and supports many cloud providers including GDrive.
I use an app called folder sync. It will do periodic syncs (one way or two way). I use it to sync a few folders to my device. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I've been using FolderSync for years. I think it might be a paid app for some features but it's been worth it for me. You can set up sync to Google Drive or other sites from specific folders on your phone. You can set them up to be one-way in either direction or two-way, scheduled, instant and various other options. I have it Syncing my camera, screenshot and a couple of other folders so that any new files appear on my PC within a minute or so and transferring files to my phone is as easy as putting them in a certain folder on my PC. When I used to use my tablet I had a folder that synced with that as well.
There are apps that can copy a file from one folder location to another on a scheduled basis.
If you have an Android phone you can sync it with your PC. iOS users are out of luck.
If you also have the PC version, you can also set up a sync with the cloud such that you'll always have the most up to date version on your phone or PC before you play. Alternatively, you can just use this set up to store a back up of your savegame.
Here's what the different files mean:
Enjoy!
I use the app foldersync app ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en ) It supports a whole bunch of backends, I use it with nextcloud and sftp, but it also does smb, Google drive, onedrive, Dropbox, ftp etc.
I've had pretty good luck with FolderSync and Dropbox. The only emulator I haven't gotten this work with so far is Drastic.
It has the added bonus of letting me access the compatible saves on my gaming PC.
>I like Keepass but this problem is pushing me to use Bitwarden
This is not a Keepass problem. Your two devices apparently can't manage to reliably push changes to your cloud copy. I used a similar setup with GDrive, where I linked Keepass2Android directly to the GDrive DB; I didn't make changes to the DB on my Android phone, though.
You can try and let apps like FolderSync manage the sync. Another alternative, which I set up recently, is letting Syncthing manage the sync between my devices in a decentralized manner, so I don't have some Google or Microsoft sitting in the middle.
Hmm, I've been using a decent syncing app called FolderSync, it syncs some folders from my phone to my desktop via sftp automatically every day (it has a pile of other ways to backup too), looking at other things it can backup I see all the ScanHistory files for calcyIV in /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/testmath.calcy/files/ , just tried setting up an autobackup with it and it worked, haven't tried restoring from backup but I assume it'll work too, this is the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en_CA
This is how I have the sync setup: http://share.coros.us/files/foldersync-calcyiv.png
You could try FolderSync, an Android app. I used SyncBack Pro on my Windows PCs and FolderSync Pro to do the same thing on my Android / Chrome boxes...

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en-GB
Oh no, sorry. I meant the Android app called Foldersync. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en_US
Foldersync is an android app only. It should work with windows and mac. I don't have a mac, but it works with windows, and network folders, etc. No problem. Syncthing is more of an entire synchronization that goes on the pc, mac, and android. I always had issues with syncthing on android. On the pc, it worked fine. THe setup I feel is weird also.
I went through a whole round of these softwares. Syncthing, synctrayzor. In the end, I just felt for android Foldersync was the least problematic. On the pc side, i settled with Syncovery, very powerful software. So i don't even use syncthing anymore. The configuration and UI is just not very good IMO and there were a lot of minor problems.
With any storage solution, you must have more than one copy of your data. Just like how you may backup the SSD and hard drives in your PC daily, you should be doing the same with your phone.
For example, I use foldersync (pro version due to how I organize and structure the backups) to for android to backup my phone to my NAS whenever my phone is on my home network and charging. Since it only sends over the changes, after an initial backup, subsequent ones are extremely fast https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I use FolderSync to sync to my own hosting (ownCloud, but there's lots of other options including a simple shared hosting account), and Google Photos using the free compressed option.
That way I have full resolution copies safely stored in a location I control, and a second repository I can safely curate and share in one I can't trust fully (knowing Google's proclivity for shutting things down).
In that case perhaps a syncing app like FolderSync or Autosync for Dropbox - Dropsync might be useful to you.
I use FolderSync to synchronize folders between my phone and my computer over WIFI. The app supports various cloud services and a bunch of transfer protocols.
It may take a while to set up but for me it's very reliable.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en
I recently started syncing a backup to my NAS with an app called "Folder sync"
It has a free option supported by ads and a played version without. This makes it easy for testing it out.
For me it works wonderful and I have no complains. It has plenty features and options. In fact I liked it and bought the "premium" app in order to support it(IMO the ads were implemented good and were not that intrusive). In case you end up as me and had several folders and syncs setup for different services(expect my NAS I had a sync to Dropbox going) and you wanna pay but don't want to setup everything again on the payed app, there is the option to buy premium via an in app purchase. This way you can keep your setup but remove the ads.
I hope I don't sound like an ad but I don't known any other sync services. Only thing else I can think of is the good old manual copy/paste on a USB drive.
That's not the "old fashion way". The old fashioned way was to just drag-and-drop files, which you could do with most MP3 players or USB sticks or other storage media. Having to install an application and use it to "sync" files was always an Apple thing, although some companies tried to imitate Apple and made their own sync applications.
Regardless, if you want to use an app to sync your music, just use FolderSync - you don't even need to install an app on your PC, just enable folder sharing for the folder you want to sync.
As an android user you could use Foldersync.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=de
It supports WebDAV and you can set the sync direction. If you enable the camera roll folder from your wife’s phone and set the direction: phone -> cloud it should upload the whole camera roll folder.
I just used this app in the past and it worked like a charm.
It's how the app works. It's meant to upload the pictures you take with the phone camera.
If you want a 1:1 folder structure backup you can use something like FolderSync to upload your DCIM/Photos folder to your Google Drive.
Whatever backup method you choose this is a handy way to get backup files from your phone to a local server. I have not set it up on my Pixel yet but on my old 6P I used FolderSync to schedule a sync of backup files to a local server using SFTP. It does FTP, Samba and WebDAV too. Worked quite well so I bought the full version for $3.
I am using FolderSync for things like this. Works without Tasker, but you can also call it as a Plugin. Supports a ton of different cloud providers and such. Well worth the price (atleast for me).
> Pro/Free version
> The free version contains ads and has no sync filters. You can upgrade in-app to pro version. The pro version has no limitations. In all other regards the pro and lite versions are identical.
No filters means it will sync all files from a given source folder (or one specific file only), you cannot exclude stuff and such. But maybe you dont even need that. No idea how much ads the free version shows, i bought the pro a long time ago.
TLDR, try FolderSync
I use folder structure with my music, so i guess my method would work for you as well.
I have a considerable mp3 collection ive gotten over the years... and obviously MOST if not all has NO album covers, and some mislabeled tags.
Basically i just setup FolderSync
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
i setup 2 sync methods, one where the locals files are replaced, and another where the remote files are replaced.
So i use folder sync and get a 1:1 copy from my PC musics folder to my Phone.
Then i use Automatag or similar to get album covers and correct tags.
THEN i use folder sync again to replace the old PC files with the new ones.
So now my pc and phone have the same files and subfolders (with album covers and tags).
This is more work than to just syncing up 2 folders... so im sure you can use this method for your albums.
Read this documentation on the nextcloud android client. Looks like FolderSync will accomplish what you need on android between your mobile and nextcloud for arbitrary sync of folders. Still won't be read-only as it will download them. For read-only you'll just need to use the browser app afaik
I prefer Foldersync for wifi transfers. It works with SMB (Windows network shared folders.) It also works with FTP, Dropbox, Google Drive, and a bunch other cloud services.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en
I used to get those MTP errors too, but not anymore on Windows 10 or Arch Linux with Gnome 3.18. My entire folder (2.3 GB) in copied over flawlessly in about two minutes (LG G3 external SD to Dell XPS 13, Arch Linux, via USB 2.0 MTP).
Edit: If MTP doesn't work for you, then you could try FolderSync, which can backup to a shared folder on your PC, over WiFi.
Any of the more popular cloud drives. Google Drive (15GB free) or OneDrive (50GB free) are what i recommend for you. Dropbox not so much since they only offer 2GB of free space.
You can use apps such as FolderSync to automatically download or upload your files from and to your cloud drive.
edit: to backup your pictures just use Google Photos.
I was using ownCloud on my server as the backend... I'd type up a note either in the ownCloud web interface (when I'm at work) or I'd use whatever notepad came with my installed OS on my computer. On the phone, I'd use Folder Sync Lite to grab the folder from my ownCloud server than I'd use Papyrus Ex to read/edit the notes. It would all sync across the phone, laptop and web client very nicely.
The transition I'm making now (once I get an iPhone) will be simply to use the Apple Notes app through iCloud. It'll do the same thing, but I won't have to administer a server or remember the little quirks I'd have to use with my solution.
Edit: I actually use the same ownCloud and Folder Sync setup for other things I wanted to sync between my phone and laptop. I'm not sure how I will do it when I get an iPhone, but I haven't had the need to transfer things lately, so I'll probably revert to plugging the phone into my laptop.
FolderSync seems to be popular, though I never tried it myself (I also use ES File Explorer if I actually need to move files around).
Folder Sync
The lite version contains ads, only allows two accounts and has no sync filters or Tasker support.
Worth noting that both have a free version, with both you can only use one cloud services and there are a few other restrictions. I stick to the free version of bc because I don't like monthly payments but FolderSync is worth every penny.
If you wanna give the free version a try it's here.
I use Folder Sync. You can set it up so it can copy files from you Android to remote locations (smb, sftp, and s3 are what I use). You can even limit it to specific wifi networks.
Lite Version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Pro Version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full
I don't know of any "official" way, but maybe run an SFTP server on both devices and have them sync files using an app like this one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
The rest of the data such as app data and settings would just sync with their cloud servers anyways so that shouldn't be a big deal.
Might not be what you're looking for, but I save to internal storage and use FolderSync to move the files to the SD card on a schedule while the phone's charging.
I haven't used this for obsidian yet, but I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite with a lot of success for remote syncing. I hear next loud might fit the bill as well. But I'm just starting to play with it
I had several issues with Synology drive:
But there is a much better option that fixes all those problems: using SFTP in your NAS and setting an app in your phone that supports file sync through SFTP, like <strong>Folder Sync</strong>.
Another alternative is <strong>Syncthing</strong>. I've used it for more than a year and it worked great, but it has no encryption and setting it up can be a bit confusing.
Using SFTP is a far better option in my opinion.
Hi, here is how I do it: just use Foldersync app, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite, on Android and OneDrive on Windows.
Works like a charm
I reply to my own question (I hope it helps other cryptomator redditors): it is possible to work fully offline with Cryptomator for Android with Onedrive files 🤩🤩🤩
Here is how:
I'm on Android, so I use FolderSync to copy to the SMB share that I've setup. It works really well. Not sure of the best iOS app though if that is your situation.
>Google Photos to host my camera images. >One Drive to host my videos. >Amazon to host every other image.
FolderSync is great for this, it also has Tasker integration.
>isolate between Captured Images and videos.
Use the Profile > Event > File Modified event to watch for new images in the DCIM folder and move and sort them to other folders based on their extension.
If the file name of the recordings is predictable, I guess you could use foldersync to move all files based on a filter from Camera to a different folder.
Not sure if (free) Lite version can do this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
but the pro version does (i own it): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full
I don't know about emulators that have this built in, but I've been using FolderSync to do this. You can set it up to sync a file or folder (and subfolders) to an FTP server, Google Drive, etc, and you can set it to happen on demand or on a timer, to only sync if the files have changed, to only replace files with newer versions, etc.
It takes a bit of setting up (and you have to find out where your save files and savestates are, which can be tricky with Scoped Storage) but it's very useful. I've actually been using it to sync save games between Citra MMJ and my n3DS.
Another vote for foldersync (I use the free / lite version as it fits my requirements...!)
Synology and FolderSync. My phone and SD card back up nightly to my Synology. (My Synology then backs up several places each night as well.)
My SD card actually just died this week. I dropped the new card in, hit sync, and all my files were back in about an hour.
What I've done is create a DDNS with Synology, I enabled WebDav (changed the default port for security reasons), open that port in your Synology firewall settings AND your router.
I use an app called Foldersync, in the app you can enable two way, one way, and deletions this is all connected with WebDav and Foldersync. Works great and no issues at all can sync anywhere I have a connection.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Yup, I'm a big Aegis fan. Slick interface, about all the features you could want. I have it set up to export encrypted backup of the database onto a directory of my phone every time the database is changed. Then once a week foldersync backs that directory up to the cloud. Foldersync isn't free (paid version is a few bucks). It's not open source either but I don't worry about that because it only has access to the encrypted data.
Since your an android guy interested in 2FA, I have to mention another really slick app... wearauthn. It basically turns your wear os watch into a hardware key for U2F / FIDO2. If you use hardware key you always need a backup key... so I have two backup Yubikeys, but I don't need to worry about where they are or taking them on the road with me... my watch is always with me.
> mmm this seems like a real good solution... can you clarify for me how do you restore if you loose your phone? you mentioned backup, but how operatively works? backup from phone to where? and how often? do you automate the backup?
> you mentioned backup, but how operatively works? backup from phone to where? and how often? do you automate the backup?
Yes it is automated, no effort on my part. Based on settings I selected within Aegis, the data is exported to a particular directory on my phone any time I change anything and exit the application. I use Foldersync (paid app) to sync that directory to a free drive (could be onedrive, dropbox, google drive).
mmm this seems like a real good solution... can you clarify for me how do you restore if you loose your phone? you mentioned backup, but how operatively works? backup from phone to where? and how often? do you automate the backup?
For Android specifically, I've found Foldersync to be an excellent choice. Unfortunately while syncthing is great on every other device form factor, it seemed to be a touch heavy for my phone - which is where foldersync comes into play. While it can't sync fully peer-to-peer like syncthing can, it does the job for a simple Phone → NAS (or vice versa) sync.
The only way of really syncing files on Android it's through an app like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Just changed from Google drive to a hosted Nextcloud. I never want to go back! You are doing the right thing.
FolderSync | 4.6 ⭐️ | Free with IAP | 49MB |

I don't know if something like this exists for iOS but on android I use this to sync my phone on my server. It works pretty well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=fr&gl=US
Never really used call recording, but I guess those are stored in a folder.
So you can use apps like foldersync to sync eg to Gdrive.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Check out FolderSync. Highly flexible, easy to use, and best of all, set and forget.
I have mine set to backup photos (based on file extension) to my photos folder and videos to my videos folder on my NAS every week, only when connected to my wifi, . I get a notification when it's done and have peace of mind that the week's photos and videos are all backed up. Liked it so much I paid for Pro version.
I don't know about doing it through Tasker, but in case no one else knows either, you can do something like this using an app called FolderSync, if you're willing to use a cloud backup folder as an intermediary. It supports just about every cloud drive option.
I had troubles with large files when uploading from Android phones. Once the file gets into the gigabyte range, uploading is not a given.
For folders with large files, I use FolderSync. It can better suited than Nextcloud Android client, depending on /u/RickWinterer use cases.
Until such an app is created - For my android phone I use foldersync to monitor for changes in specific folders on my phone that I want backed up. It instantly copies them to my PC over wireguard VPN. Backblaze personal backs it up. So I have a backup on my personal PC and with backblaze. Completely automated. Works for me.
FolderSync is what I've used for years and it works so well I don't even think about it. I have it set to do a one-way sync of several different folders (photos and videos across local storage and SD card) once a week when connected to my WiFi. Also compatible with tons of cloud providers in addition to protocols you can use for your Synology such as SMB and FTP.
If your main focus is photo and video files, you can try album app like Les Pas, for other type of file, FolderSync is nice.
I think your best bet would be to export to PDF/PNG and set up FolderSync to synchronize with the cloud provider of your choice.
The (editable) notes themselves are not available in any usable file format. IIRC they are stored inside a database as raw vectors + metadata. So to my knowledge, there currently is no way around the export function.
I hadn't use it for a long time so I couldn't remember, but I installed it to recheck and... good news! FolderSync can do what you want to do. You can program it to sync the files on its own. I used to use it to sync files in the cloud before there were so many good services, but it also lets you select the external sd memory instead of the cloud. Hope it helps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Use a cloud app like Google Drive or Mega to back it up to your cloud on a computer. Then to use it on a mobile, download FolderSync app (for android). Then you could achieve the sync without paying for it. Now it is convenient. $4 is too much in India. In America, coffee is $2 meaning Obsidian sync is 2 coffees in the US but in India, coffee is 10 rupees, and 4 dollars = ₹297.82, which is equal to 30 coffees. So I'm not paying for it.
I used Simple Gallery Pro for a long time when I was using Motorola phones because Moto stopped offering a gallery. I think it costs like a dollar but then you have no ads and 2xtra features. I liked it because it was so straightforward. It doesn't have any uploading options, but there's apps like Foldersync that could take care of that. It had a nice, simple editor built in too. Actually Simple Mobile Tools, the dev, has a bunch of good apps.
>OneDrive is hard to navigate on Android
So annoying. But I did get it working pretty smoothly (for synching saves) with FolderSync.
FolderSync might be useful for you
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I use it to sync photos that I take on my tablet to dropbox for work. Im sure I have seen in the settings you can set it up to sync to a home network.
The official nextcloud app is one-way sync.
If you want 2 way / mirror sync you need to find an app that supports that.
On Android I have used this Folder Sync that works with Nextcloud through webdav
Users of FolderSync, please clarify three things for me. 1. Any changes I make inside a particular folder on my phone should be synced to a GoogleDrive folder and a Dropbox folder simultaneously. Is FolderSync suitable for this? 2. Any major differences between the free & pro versions other than ads? 3. Is it safe to sync personal data through such 3rd party clients?
Thanks in advance!
I've got my Note Air one week ago and I am still experimenting with its features - I'm quite happy with it. My setup is similar, I'm just using ownCloud. Instead of the ownCloud client (which works by the way very well on the Note Air) I'm using FolderSync
With this you can sync single folders (and also hierarchies of folders) anywhere on your cloud with any folder on your Note Air. I've just tried to sync a bunch of books in different formats from a special folder (with subfolders) in my onwCloud directly to the Books folder on my Note Air. In "Directory Mode" the subfolders are still visible, so I think this is working as you expect.
I've not looked into syncing the hand written notes - yet. I guess if you find the files in the accessible folder structure on your Note Air FolderSync should be able to sync them as well.
For android phones, you could use FolderSync. I use it for two-way sync of files between my Synology and phone.
For Android phones, I use FolderSync
It's a generic app to copy/move/sync files over different storage providers, and NextCloud is one of them.
In addition to photos, I also sync screenshots and other data from my phone. And when I cancel them from my computer, they get canceled also from my phone ;)
This sounds like an interesting project. Let me know how it ends up working.

You could get a really, really cheap phone to be the "brain" for all this process. Leave it unlocked (which solves 3) and always plugged to charger. Cheap phone runs the workflow and send alerts and updates to your main phone.
This is what you are looking for FolderSync. The free version requires you to run the sync manually. The pay version allows you to setup auto sync when your phone is on a particular network (your home network).
Try apps like Foldersync and Autosync (I couldn't get the link). They will copy your pics to a cloud exactly as you have them in storage.
I am using the App "Folder Sync", because the offical Nextcloud app isn't so good imho. You can get it here: Google Play
It looks for the photos you could use FolderSync For Android phones with a Windows Share folder on the server. From there, you just deal with basic file permissions.
Here's a discussion in /r/homeserver about accomplishing the photo backup as well.
> I've read about serving 4k content and the requirements that has
Note that if you're streaming 4k on your home network, the requirements are actually not very intense. It's only transcoding that's intense. Well, that and the network requirements. Photos won't require much at all for bandwidth or storage.
I had some issues with the auto upload too. In the end, I got this app called FolderSync and it works extremely well. I upload my photos/videos directly to an SMB share daily but it supports Nextcloud too.
In addition to FolderSync, MiXplorer has an Auto Tasks feature that syncs Android<->PC folders shared via LAN. No ads.
FolderSync - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=sv
Does exactly that.
I use it on all my folders on my android. Has all the major protocol supports (SMB, FTP, NFS, SFTP, S3, etc etc) and dropbox, gdrive, onedrive.
You can either choose sync on a schedule, "instant sync" (when a new file appears, sync it) or both.
Maybe FolderSync? I think you can sync locally with it, too.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Foldersync:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I know a few of the standalone emulators have them built in but they are not automated (never worked right on drastic at least). With this I can control when they sync.
I do syncing between my phone and my QNAP with an app called 'FolderSync'. Link is to the free version, I've bought the Pro version because I liked the app.
I sync one-way (phone to NAS), to a folder that is automatically indexed by QuMagie.
Only have to press 1 button in the app to start the syncing. :).
I use FolderSync for this. It has Tasker integration.
FolderSync should be a good alternative.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I use Foldersync and I do believe it works both ways
>Syncthing: haven't tried it (correct me if I'm wrong) because both devices need to be connected to the same network.
Syncthing is not only to be used on the same network. You can use it accros the web.

My c*urrent workflow*
At the moment I sync my notes using Google Drive (Google Drive File Stream*, already in use on my computer for a lot of stuff). On my Android phone I am using FolderSync. I trigger the sync at opening and closing of the Obsidian app with MacroDroid**. Setting the sync in FolderSync every one hour or x minutes doesn't cut it for me. Either you have way to many syncs/checks while not really necessary or if you edit on your computer(s) and on your phone while in between two syncs you might end up with data loss. Setting up the sync at opening & closing of the app solved this!
* = make sure you make the Obsidian vault/folder fully synced, not only cached but with a full local sync; Google Drive File Stream is now called Google Drive for Desktop
** = MacroDroid is quite similar the iOS' Shortcut. Can be used for a lot of things, way more than only syncing Obsidian.

Future workflow
In the coming weeks/months I'll migrate from Google Drive to selfhosting and Syncthing, for all my data (not only Obsidian). But I already made some extensive testing and I stand by it. You can configure Syncthing to sync at every change (not recommended tho on a phone) or again syncing*** only at opening and closing of the Obsidian app (with MacroDroid).
*** = no native support for Syncthing on MacroDroid, but here's the needed info to configure it
Isn't foldersync better? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Check out Foldersync
Official android app cannot do it.
I use FolderSync for that, using Nextclouds WebDAV.
You want this -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en_US&gl=US
I use to to sync my photos and app backups to a little Debian box running on ESXi ... which gets backed up to a QNAP via Veeam.
For app backup, beats the pants off Titanium: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.swiftapps.swiftbackup&hl=en_US&gl=US

Let me know if you have any questions, glad to help!!!
Give Folder Sync a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
You can also use FolderSync.
Link me: FolderSync
Free version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I'm using Folder Sync to backup my SD card and local storage to my NAS. It works with most cloud providers too.
Check out FolderSync. It has the option to backup folders to drive/Dropbox/etc. It also has a tasker plugin.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Before subscribing to Google Play All Access, this is how I'd manage my library:
No, it's not, it's called Folder sync and it's a better app the. the one Nextclod has...
Using FolderSync for Android here. Works like a charm!
I run Nextcloud on a Pi3B+, it works very well for me and my family. Here is what I use:
Nextcloud is a WebDAV server at core, any app supporting WebDAV would work happily with it.
There is a lot of apps like this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Try the FolderSync app. It can sync files to public cloud services like Google drive, Dropbox, etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
It's really important to keep in mind that everyone's use case is different, so what might be perfect for someone else might not be a great solution for you.
Looking at some of the other posts here I think there's two commonly desired functionalities: auto tagging so you can search "cat" or something, and shared albums for friends and family.
I spent a while looking at different things and thought I'd put together a summary!
Feature: Auto Tagging
It looks like only options here are photoprism and plex. I haven't had a good look at either. I suspect that photoprism uses a somewhat trained deep learning matrix to tag your photos locally, while plex might send photos to a central API as part of a paid service (maybe someone can confirm?)
As an aside, interesting looking related opensource projects (though not end user solutions) are intel's CVAT and microsoft's VoTT.
Feature: Shared Albums
I haven't seen any other comments about this, but I suspect one of the better options might be piwigo?
Otherwise you could use FolderSync to sync a folder between devices.
Android App: FolderSync
| developer | play (free) | play (pro) |
Android app to sync folders to a range of backends. This is not opensource, but there's a free version (with adds, no limitations) and a pro (ad free) version.
In my case scheduled sync to SMB folders is super useful. No need to run a nextcloud or syncthing instance. You can also sync to S3 which I think is really relevant here... if you're used to using partner share in google photos then syncing to the same S3 bucket might be an easy and convenient option for some uses.
Android App: Open Camera
| play | f-droid | sourceforge |
The UI ain't pretty, but I use this many times a day. Does what it says on the tin.
Android App: Simple Gallery Pro
| play (free) | play (paid) | f-droid |
I think this has a lot of features which I've never used. Basically, I snap a photo with open camera, press the thumbnail to open in simple gallery, then "move to" whichever folder in order to categorise it, then foldersync sends the photo to wherever it needs to go according to its folder. I take photos of receipts and store them multiple times a day. It's so quick, you can do it at the checkout before you walk away.
Self Hosted: Piwigo
Haven't used this, but I think it's multi-user, and has ok-looking free and paid android apps.
Self Hosted: Photoprism
Haven't used this either, other comments say it's not multi-user, but does have autotagging.
FolderSync, make sure your PC has one of ftp/samba/ssh server running.
FolderSync could be useful for you.
Well worth the app cost. Has a plugin that integrates with Tasker as well.
Folder sync. I have it working on my tablet. Did not try on the Shield. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Huh odd. You can also use folder sync. It's more complicated to setup but it's more robust.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
FolderSync should work.
Folder Sync could be what you're looking for.
what you need is simply this app : foldersync. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
FolderSync Lite might be what you're looking for.
You could also use FolderSync to automate sync files from your phone to a network share, or vise versa.
in general I'm not a fan of the cards view for switching between recent apps, I see no reason to make everything look stacked, messy, visually-complicated-in-general, and more computationally expensive [battery life, lower FPS] to render. One of the reasons I organize digitally is I can put a file into a folder and it doesn't get messy like if I leave it somewhere on my desk. Why would we want to diverge from neat, orderly, cleanlyspaced items (the KitKat app switcher) to something that resembles a messy paper-pushing desk? (It's so that [UPGRADE NOW] it looks fancy shiny and new, but it's form over function and a productivity hit).
(It's a productivity hit because it's harder to identify the app you want to get to when over 80% of it is covered up by other app cards)
Their idea to automatically dump all the Chrome tabs into the task switcher is also retarded. You can disable it, but it's so retarded it shouldn't even be there. My friend had 84 tabs open on his phone on Chrome one day when I visited. He's an outlier, but I regularly leave 3-5 open that I mean to get around to next time I hit a coffee shop [but it takes a month] and want to listen to some songs. He would have to scroll through 84 tabs in app switcher just to get to the apps he wants to use.
The messy design [hey I got it! lets call it MDL for MESSY Desk/Design Language!!! haha!!!!!] extends to their use of stacking in MDL creating a '3D effect', like with the cards in recent apps, when you scroll down an app's page listing. For example, click me on your phone, and then scroll down. Watch how the video region at the top squishes half above/half below, until it finally disappears. It's visually confusing/complicated. The UI/UX back-scratching-circle needs to stop and those guys need to go be normal software engineers like the rest of us so that they can get annoyed with inefficient design and produce something actually useful.
Finally, many have had issues-in-general with Lollipop-in-general (memory leaks, poor 'silent mode' implementation) and many [battery drains in particular] require a factory reset to resolve. I suppose I'll get around to it, but not until Xposed is running nicely.
KK4.4.2/4 is super stable and I see no reason to leave it.
As I type this I am thinking about the Nexus 6 I used at Best Buy and thinking about how^consistent^and^cool^the^MDL^seemed D:
Is it this app ? And do I need the Pro version ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Yeah I did this If on Android, there is Folder Sync. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en_US&gl=US
Foldersync It is free, though free version has adds
Unfortunately, I only sync to my Android devices. I use the (appropriately named) app FolderSync. For the record, it does have an option to look at the last modified date and keep/copy the newest version, so I think it would copy over tag changes.
I use Synology NASs at home, and they do have a Windows desktop client that claims to have sync functionality. Their Android sync solution was always a little buggy, and it's obviously proprietary to Synology, so I don't know how helpful that will be.
Past that, it looks like Windows has at least the framework built in past Vista via Sync Center, though I've never personally used it. FreeFilesSync looks interesting on the open source side.
Without docker I use the application foldersync to sync with my samba server. It works great. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
It's as simple as transferring your Obsidian notes folder to other devices by any means.
I myself use [Syncthing](https://syncthing.net/) to transfer my notes between mac and android (previously win and android).
You can use any cloud storage like Google Drive, Mega, Dropbox and enable syncing if natively available or some third party app (one i remember is [Foldersync](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en&gl=US) can get the pro version from google if needed.
You can use FolderSync: Link
Or just setup Foldersync with photoprism WebDAV
Setup once and done.
I know not official but I hear one try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I use Foldersync to sync my notes folder, since the Nextcloud app doesn't do two-way-sync.
As of apps I have tried:

- Joplin, works good and can sync with webdav so no Foldersync needed. Con that it encrypts notes so you can only read them with Joplin apps on desktop etc..
- Nextcloud Notes, works good and can sync with webdav so no Foldersync needed. Con looks quited dated and not a easy way to organize notes.
- Obsidian, till now best markdown notes app I have found, also has apps for Mac, Linux and Windows. Con you need Foldersync because it doesn't support webdav,
Yes, you can either use FolderSync to sync to different cloud providers (Dropbox, Google Drive etc.) or if you're feeling more adventurous you can use git, which also has the advantage of having a proper history. I use obsidian-git plugin on desktop and MGit client on my phone
Try FolderSync
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
It's an app that allows for syncing of files from android to cloud, ftp, selfhosted or via versa.
I use FolderSync.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite or Pro version is pretty cheap to remove ads and support the dev https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full . Just works, I'm happy with it.
Can you use Synthing to sync with a cloud? I use FolderSync and can't say it is the best.
ah i see. i use FolderSync to backup my pictures and stuff but would love if i could use rclone on mobile too!
FolderSync connected to a Google Drive folder works pretty well for me.
Figured out a workflow:
Install these extensions:
[URL="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/epubpress-read-the-web-of/pnhdnpnnffpijjbnhnipkehhibchdeok?hl=en"]EpubPress - Read the web offline[/URL]
[URL="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/save-as-ebook/haaplkpoiimngbppjihnegfmpejdnffj?hl=en"]Save as eBook[/URL]
Create an ePub file from several open tabs (1) or convert the current tab to ePub (2).
Save the ePub file to DropBox.
Use [URL="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite"]FodlerSync[/URL] to automatically sync your DropBox folder with the Articles folder (create one) in your Boox device.
For me:
FolderSync -- It's set to back up my pictures when I plug in my phone on WiFi. No fuss about losing anything. Or not having stuff available
Google Authenticator -- I operate on a semi zero-trust policy even on my local accounts. Every sign on is authenticated. Nothing is 'assumed' good. And SMS/email verifications are actively avoided
Dashlane -- Password manager
PlexAmp -- Use it for my local music library. Has some cool AI sorting for similar sounding songs. Can download a playlist of X length for offline listening
NZB360 -- Easy, simple remote management of some media server features
Google Pay -- It's honestly more secure than carrying cards with me
BitDefender -- Antivirus for phone. I realize there's some disagreement over if that stuff is needed or not, but I'm a firm believer. Once upon a time, it caught one of those weird malware apps before it made it to the news articles "uninstall these android apps right now." Also has remote track/wipe operations if I ever lose the device.
Torque Pro -- Gives me a nice little heads up display for the car. Uses hardware I already have. Why buy one of those weird tuner displays when I can use this? Also works better than the auto parts store scanners if I need to pull codes.
I Think its only for android. I would recommend the PRO version for no ads.

imao keep it simple A web server serving files is all you need I ended up using a docker container with a nginx sever with webdav plugin. This Then use caddy to reverse proxy it and add ssl To sync with android I use foldersync (fully featured with adds but worth paying for it) You can Mount the webdav server on androud on any webdav capable filemanager to copy paste stuff
I've writen a how to here and here
There are other dockerised webdav servers e.g. this
FolderSync app yeah. Free version and paid. Not sure what limits are but give it a go playstore link
(#1 Automatic backup of PC). Create a batch file that calls robocopy for each folder you want to back up, using the "mir" option. Create a scheduled task that calls the batch file daily, at (for example) 3am. An example of the commands in the batch file for calling robocopy would be like so:
> robocopy C:\Users\joe\Documents \NAS\backups\joe\documents /MIR
If there are spaces in the name of the local folder or NAS folder, put double quotes around them, making it look like this instead:
> robocopy "C:\Users\joe\My Documents" "\NAS\backups\joe\my documents" /MIR
These examples are borrowed from here.
(#4 automatic backup of android phones over wifi). For years, I've used an app on the phone called FolderSync or FolderSync Pro for this. In the app, you create a "folder pair" between a folder on your phone and a folder on the NAS. Schedule the folder pair to do a daily backup. This is good for backing up pictures taken with the camera. Used with another app, it can also back up your text messages.
For the text message backup, I use SMS Backup & Restore. Have SMS Backup & Restore do nightly backups of your text messages to a folder on your phone, then use FolderSync to copy that folder to your NAS.
Item #2 and #3 are related. The way this normally works is by having a DLNA server of some sort that is running, pointing at the NAS folders for the content. Some NAS devices have the option to install Plex on them and serve up the content that way. This normally works well enough, but if you can not have it do the "transcoding" things tend to work a bit faster. I personally have a different computer running that has Serviio on it instead of Plex, but it's a matter of personal preference.
Essentially, the more "features" you want on the NAS, the more complicated it will be. I personally like the NAS being just storage, with no applications or anything else running on it. Others take a different approach and have a NAS device functioning as multiple services on the network. Both are valid approaches, and it's up to you for how you set things up.
You could use FolderSync for this and connect to Koofr webdav: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Try Folder Sync, I have the Pro version and works well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Personally, I've used Folder Sync with an SMB shared folder for photo uploading.
FolderSync should do what you want - I recently moved to using it kind of for the same reason.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
it looks like ads are the only difference between the lite and pro version
Well you can use foldersync app to backup the signal folder which contains the backups off phone to cloud or elsewhere. Make sure sync deletions are off, but turn on copy files to timestamped folder in the advacned options and you can setup a year / month / day folder structure.
FolderSync should be able to do exactly what you want.
Not sure why so many people are saying that this isn't possible.
Markor ist an offline editor, it expects the files to be present locally on your device. Hence you need to sync them since Dropbox for Android doesn't sync. I use Folder Sync (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en_US&gl=US) and it works pretty well
yes this currently what i have. i use Foldersync to sync from the signal folder to mega so its offsite. i do have the passcode and know it. so this who paranioa about "cloud backup" isnt bad as long as you encrypt yourself, or have a low threat level.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en_US
Alternativ dazu: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nutomic.syncthingandroid&hl=en_US
Aber dafür muss man wohl den Syncthing Dienst auch installieren und am Laufen haben.
Try FolderSync
You can use FolderSync to backup folders automatically to your Google Drive
I use an app called folder sync to move photos off my phone to mega. But you choose whatever cloud storage you want or webdev/ftp
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Just searching I found some interesting alternatives worth to see: Collabora Office plus Mega plus FolderSync.
Collabora is non-official but a LibreOffice recommend app. More information can be found in the LibreOffice official blog.
Mega need no comments, it's a well known privacy-focused cloud storage with E2EE and zero-knowledge encryption. Free accounts have 15GB, but premium plans have storage up to 1 TB or more.
FolderSync is an useful app for synchronization folder and files within the Android filesystem. It's better than the official Mega app, because that only sync photos from mobile devices.
I use folder sync to offload my files nightly to an homelab server via sftp, the whole of what im doing is fairly technical / nich but most folks could set up a copy "this" folder to cloud storage and delete the files after successful upload.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Yes! You're lucky you're on Android and not iOS. I really miss android.
If you also have the PC version, you can also set up a sync with the cloud such that you'll always have the most up to date version on your phone or PC before you play. Alternatively, you can just use this set up to store a back up of your savegame. Here's what the different files mean:
Enjoy!
I’m really sorry to hear that. I unfortunately don’t know of any way to restore the old save files without the old phone.
You put a lot of hours into your old farm. Perhaps you would enjoy siting down to journal what you liked about it (with some rough sketches) and some of the memorable experiences you had on that farm.
I recently wrote a reddit post on how to back up (and transfer) save files on iOS. You can follow similar steps for Android. In fact you have the benefit of wonderful apps like FolderSync to automate the back up and restore of your save file everyday.
I wish you many more Stardew adventures.
I use dropbox but I will try and make a tutorial for Google drive so I'm sorry if something is wrong... But download the Google Drive backup and sync tool to your PC and download foldersync for your phone (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite) now create a folder in your drive and on your phone. Then you will open foldersync and pair those two folders. But now that you have the folders on your phone and drive paired you will need to go into all of your emulators and change the save directory to be the folder on your phone. Now you have to do the same thing on your PC except for you do not have to create a folder as you should be able to write to your drive from the user directory. Then you will need to copy any saves you had on your devices to the new drive folder then everything should just work.
Try FolderSync
Although you clearly said "Resilio Sync (BTSYnc) is out", I still think it's the best solution. I have a Respberry Pi that running 24x7 with Resilio Sync, and I never keep PC/Android/iOS devices running Resilio Sync continuedly in the background, I only start Resilio Sync when I need to sync, and the Respberry Pi always has the latest sync'ed data.
What is GCam tool though? Does it just move images from internal storage to external storage? Why not just cut and paste using a file manager?
Or do you mean saving photos taken with GCam directly to external storage? If so then this'll be perfect for ya. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Did you try FolderSync? For the computer side, either enable Samba share or run an SSH server.
I personally use Resilio Sync for managing my mp3 files between my PCs/phones/Raspberry Pis.
What brand is your phone. I know that smbsync rarely works with pendrives. None of mine works.
Try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I use FolderSync to sync my files. Mine is set up to sync, not back up, but my NAS backs up nightly, so I'm not terribly concerned.
FolderSync doesn't get updated anymore but it's the best app to sync folders to google drive or almost any other cloud service haven't had any problems.
This app can automate moving of local files, even though it's primarily marketed as a cloud sync. I've used it in the past. It was a little complicated as I remember and now I just do it manually in Simple Gallery Pro by filtering the video to show video only and then selecting all to move.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
For the sync solution you mention there I've had good results with FolderSync. You can tell it to ignore if the file is deleted at the other end, so it doesn't ever upload more than once and you can move it out of the way to perform additional processing.
Sure, there is a pro version without ads if you like it.

Did you activate Signal backups? But for me the backup is always saved to the internal storage.
So for the tool to work, you first need the backup file (for me it's in the "Signal/Backups" folder) and the password you're told when you set up the backup.
First you have to install Rust. Then on the console
cargo install signal-backup-decode cd FOLDER_WHERE_YOUR_BACKUP_FILE_IS signal-backup-decode BACKUP_FILE --password PASSWORD
The backup file is called something like signal-2020-02-23-08-44-11.backup
and you need to quote the password or remove the spaces.
I hope this helps, good luck ...
But even if it doesn't work, make sure that you set up the backup afterwards so that it doesn't happen again to you. Also maybe copy it regularly somewhere because the backup on the same medium as Signal won't help you if this medium dies. I use FolderSync to copy it to my server, but there are lots of other solutions.
I also do something similar.
I use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
to sync my music library on phone with google drive and visa-versa.
For PC drive for windows work fine.
Foldersync has an interface for tasker and does this kind of syncing naturally.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Although I am a big fan of Tasker, there is a free app that already does this. I've used it for years without any problems. It's called FolderSync Lite. It lets you define a time, plugged in state, wifi network, and more, to decide whether to execute a synchronization task.
Yo se que no es una opcion de WhatsApp, pero si tienes este issue, podrias usar algo como FolderSync y setear un mirror de la carpeta de WhatsApp a una en tu SD.
I use FolderSync for this. Has worked well for me for a while. Mine syncs once per day but I think you can adjust.
I use FolderSync. Has worked well for me for a while. Fairly simple to set up.
this used to be the recommended one but has not received an update for 1.5 years. You may want to try. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I wrote an email to MetaCtrl who said it's in his tentative plan. And you can look for something that does generic WebDav sync and post your experience.
Foldersync is a great file backup to your cloud.. A lot of options!!! You should check it out...

Can’t Folder Sync?
Oh, okay. Hm. I'm not familiar with any of those devices. Can't you run something like OneDrive or Mega cloud on them to mirror your ROMs / save files? Or how about something like FolderSync to automate the process?
how about a phone with actual software on it to upload the photos? like maybe an iPhone with iCloud? an android phone with FolderSync?
idk what camera hardware is going to be your end-all-be-all solution. the camera is just the vessel, and an old cell phone (even with no SIM as /u/Aperture_Kubi suggested) is going to be the easiest hardware to deploy, specifically because there is already software available to take the pictures stored on the phone and upload them somewhere else.
I'll suggest the folder sync app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
That backs up from your phone to a network location
What about the lite version?
> Pro/Free version
> The free version contains ads and has no sync filters. You can upgrade in-app to pro version. The pro version has no limitations. In all other regards the pro and lite versions are identical.
I do exactly what you are looking for.
Try FolderSync.
I'm no help, but:
>they land in the same directory "Camera Roll" which makes no sense
Yeah this sucks. I use OneDrive as a photo dump backup. I don't use it for organization. The only thing here is that OneDrive Web is pretty smart at searches: for instance, typing 'screenshot' as a search yields all the screenshots. So periodically you can search and move them en masse to another folder.
>can not choose the folder name on the cloud your stuff is uploaded to, at least not in the android app, but you can rename it on the computer
That's bizarre. I didn't know that.
>if i delete some pictures in my Gallery they are not deleted in the cloud
That's right, because it's a backup not a sync. Google Photos is better on this front: deleting the photo in the Photos app deletes it on all devices (that Photos knows about). I believe deleting it on Photos website does the same. See my comment on FolderSync below, too.
>is there a onedrive application for android that syncs folders on my mobile that i can choose?
OneDrive lets you select more folders to back up. However, if you want more powerful or selective sync options, try FolderSync and FolderSync Pro.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
I just set up FolderSync, and it works great! I set it up to use my OneDrive account as the middleman.
For me Hacker's Keyboard + termux + FolderSync + Dropbox works seamlessly.
I wanted to do the same with all the photos I take with my 'proper' camera, so what I do is export processed photos from Lightroom out to a Google Drive folder on my PC. Then I have FolderSync set-up to automatically copy files from the Google Drive folder down to a folder on my Pixel, which is set-up to backup to Google Photos. You can set FolderSync to delete the files from Google Drive once they've been downloaded to your Pixel so they don't use up any storage space there either.

On the question of whether Google Photos knows whether or not the photos were taken on the phone: Yes, it probably knows from the metadata... but it doesn't seem to care. All it cares about is if the photos were uploaded from your Pixel.
I personally sync my whole phone with Foldersync at 2AM when I sleep every night.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=de
You can ofcourse use an app like foldersync to sync it yourself!
Hmm you could grab FolderSync from the play store?
I export to a particular folder on my computer, and then I use a syncing app on my phone to bring them over.
Do you know about FolderSynch?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Makes it really easy to use apps like this with cloud backup.
I use Syncthing for this but before that used FolderSynch for everything.
Edit: /u/PersonalJesusUA
TL;DR: OneDrive (or some other cloud storage service) and <strong>FolderSync</strong> for syncing, <strong>MusicBee</strong> for metadata.
I've been looking for a good solution for a while, and finally found one. In my experience, syncing over USB on Android is very iffy (MTP, the protocol used to handle mounting the phone on the computer, is very iffy and not a great protocol). I have a Music folder on my computer that I keep organized with MusicBee, and used to sync the music files over with FreeFileSync (which I should mention is cross-platform). The problem is, transfers would hang sometimes (because MTP sucks), so I'd end up having to disconnect the phone, reconnect it, and resume the sync.
That was super inconvenient, so I figured if sync over USB wasn't a viable solution, the other option was over the network. I tried Resilio Sync, which uses the BitTorrent protocol to sync over the Internet. This also proved to be unreliable, sometimes the two devices wouldn't see each other, and certain files wouldn't sync over for some reason, so I gave that up, too.
Finally, I settled on using a cloud storage service to store my music in, and sync with my phone, desktop, and laptop. Specifically, I got Office 365 (which comes with the Microsoft Office suite and 1TB of OneDrive storage) and migrated my music library to the Music folder in my OneDrive. This has been the most reliable and convenient solution thus far. I use the FolderSync app on my Android to mirror the OneDrive music folder to a folder on my phone. This also comes with the added perk of being able to stream music to my laptop (on Windows anyway) via Groove Music without having to download the entire folder over (I have ~35GB of music). I do end up having to pay for cloud storage (a family plan is $100/yr for up to 5 people), and you can probably find other free services online, like MEGA or Google Drive, but my family and I need Office anyways so for me it's worth it.
As for managing metadata, MusicBee is a great music library organizer and music player. Would highly recommend.
Use FolderSync and share a folder on your Windows machine then set up an SMB sync in FolderSync.
> Regardless, if you want to use an app to sync your music, just use FolderSync - you don't even need to install an app on your PC, just enable folder sharing for the folder you want to sync.
I've always found cloud syncing finicky and slow, which is specifically why I asked for something completely different
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite No tasker, just this app.
FolderSync has worked well for me, but I don't think it supports triggers. The scheduler isn't perfect but does the trick for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
You can use FolderSync to schedule a copy/backup from your local storage to your SD card.
Google Photos is most probably the best option.
Anyways, try FolderSync.
If you are willing to spend about 3-5 minutes setting an app up, you can use foldersync https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en
Set it to save files to your NAS while the phone is charging, and leave the notification or errors enabled (just in case you forget to connect to your home WiFi).
If you leave WiFi on (modern WiFi chipsets have such a low standby power that the battery impact is negligible), then the backup process takes place transparently to your use.
If you have fast storage and decent WiFi, the process can be extremely fast.
With ample storage on your phone, it will be uncommon to run into situations where you will be short on storage, but if that happens, and your backups have no errors, then you can safely delete a random older video, and if you need to access that file, just VPN into your home network and access it remotely.
While google photos can work to backup images, if you do not have a paid account, you get compressed backups, thus the photos it archives and offloads for you, will be of a lower quality.
It's a pretty hands on way of doing it but at least from the Android side, this app will allow you to automate part of the process.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Just choose the local folder on your phone memory or SDCard you want to Sync (e.g. sd/memcard/saves*) and choose where on your cloud drive (it supports loads of services) you want to save it.
If you have that folder synced on your Windows PC, you will either have to copy the latest save file/state to the local folder for PPSSPP (Documents/PPSSPP*), find a Win Program that serves a similar syncing process for files locally or create Syslinks. I'm still working on that side of the process but FolderSync Liye works wonderfully for my Android phone with my SNESx9 saves and Roms.
*not the actual save file locations
Sure. Just set your emulators to store their save files (not savestates) in a Cloud storage solution like Dropbox/OneDrive and use FolderSync to synchronise them with your Android device's game saves folder.
> I find the manual sync frustrating.
You could use an external app for sync (FolderSync for example). And with tasker you could even trigger the sync-events as you wish.
USE FolderSync on Google Play..
With Folder Sync, You can set it to auto backup via FTP, SD Card, Drive, Etc...
You can also set file/folder filters, It's got an extensive list of usage
I use mine to keep my internal in sync with my External SD, I just made a folder called "Internal Backup" and i sync the internal to it !...
If you turn on " only sync new files " it'll cut down sync time !
First sync may take 1-2 hours !
Don't know if it works on the shield, but why not use Folder sync: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
hmm i like this idea, might give it a try. is this the one you meant? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite Thanks
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en
I keep my music stored on Google Drive/OneDrive and that allows my phone to download the songs to a set folder on my SD card once each morning.
edit: I also use the app to keep certain work-related folders up to date, as well as a couple video folders I shuffle around often.
I use FolderSync. It automatically copies the files to a specified folder on the SD card over custom intervals (I've set it to thrice a week). Never need to bother about moving photos again. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=en
There are some native methods (I think I've seen mention of them in the Google Groups Tasker forum) but I went with Foldersync which has a Tasker plugin.
Tasker support requires the paid version of Foldersync, but it might be worth trying the Lite version without Tasker to see if the syncing element meets your need before buying the pro: Ad supported version without Tasker support
I use Foldersync to backup my phone to a private share on one of my home servers, triggered by a profile that runs at 9pm if I'm at home and on WiFi. The task checks if the server is awake and wakes it using WoL if necessary before starting the sync. I don't use the actual Foldersync scheduled syncs at all.
So I never actually managed to mount the networked drive on android, but I found the next best thing.
Using the app FolderSync will give you close to the same functionality. It lets you pair two folders together and supports smb and ftp.
Using that app I was able to achieve what I needed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
IIRC I was using folder sync for something similar
There's a pro version too.
if you're rooted there's an app called migrate to backup all apps and app data. you can backup photos and videos to any cloud storage using FolderSync.this is the best method I've found
Share a CATS folder on your Windows or Linux with SAMBA and use FolderSync Pro on your Android phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite&hl=es
FolderSync will sync to Dropbox, and has scheduling features. Free version appears to have full functionality, just ads. I have the Pro version, and definitely recommend it.
I'd recommend looking for a good Markdown editor and a good folder syncing client separately, you might see better results. FolderSync might cover what you're looking for as far as syncing goes, and while it's not the best, I'm partial to the still-pretty-good (and open-source) Writeily Pro.
