Take the time to use a password manager.
My understanding is that the password is your encryption key, so without the password you can't unencrypt what you have stored. Since MEGA doesn not know your password, I'm not sure what they could do.
You compromised your account yourself by using the same password on MEGA as on one of the many sites that were compromised (MEGA isn't one of them, by the way). People then tried your leaked password on pretty much all big sites, including MEGA. Don't believe it? Go to https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and check.
You're welcome. With regards encrypting files yourself, have a look at AxCrypt. It permits encrypted files to be shared with specific individuals. Once set up you could send (or they could download) any number of encrypted files and they would open as normal on their computer (with AxCrypt software installed). If the file was intercepted, it could not be opened by someone else, even if they had installed AxCrypt software. The software is open source is offered in free and paid versions. https://www.axcrypt.net/ FYI, I have no affiliation with the company.
Go to MEGAsync Settings, Syncs and confirm the stuck folder isn't shown as a sync folder. If it appears, select the folder and delete from the list. I'd recommend you remove every folder sync and start again. In MEGAsync's Account tab, untick Start on Start up, click Apply, then reboot.
In Windows Folder Options, enable Show hidden files and folders, go to the desktop folder and delete everything you find. If the contents and folder refuse to delete. I'd suggest you use LockHunter. Open the software, then browse to the folder on your Desktop. LockHunter will tell what is locking the folder. Click Other, then Delete At Next System Restart. Reboot and check.
Once the folder has been removed, start MEGAsync, re-tick Start on Start up and set up your required new folder syncs.
Hopefully u/SupportMEGA might be able to answer your last question.
As a possible alternative, an app I'm aware of, but not used, is Autosync for MEGA
The app was specifically designed to permit the syncing of any Android folder with a MEGA account. It's not supported/approved by MEGA (no 3rd party apps are), so you'd need to contact the creators for any support questions.
I am on the 8TB plan (Pro II) and have gotten the “transfer quota exceeded” notification 2 months in a row now just days into the new pay cycle. The transfer quota is 10TB. I have roughly 4.5TB of content. I use ExpressVPN and have tried turning it off, turning it on, switching countries, etc. Sometimes when I switch countries, it will briefly ignore the transfer quota and continue to let me stream videos. But then it eventually tells me I can’t anymore.
.blend files are for the Blender program. Blender is not available on iPhone/iOS so you cannot open it from there.
It’s available for Windows, Mac and Linux if you want to download it
Link: https://www.blender.org
If you've used MEGAsync to download a folder, shut it down, then try moving/deleting the folder again. LockHunter is also quite effective at deleting folders and files locked by another process.
>Is this some ploy to trap people's data and threaten to delete it unless you pay?
Unfortunately, yes it is. MEGA is known for doing this if you exceeded the maximum storage and are on a free account. There are many people complaining about this on r/MEGA and Trustpilot.
I can't test on iOS but I did just test out Windscribe VPN (Windows) with the MEGAsync desktop app and was able to log in and sync as normal. As suggested it'd be worth checking with another VPN, if that functions correctly I'd submit a support ticket to Windscribe. https://windscribe.com/support
Have you also posted this question on the Windscribe reddit?
Not specific to Oculus, but I'd look at mounting your MEGA account as a local hard drive, giving you access to your files from within standard desktop software.
Rclone, a command line tool, will mount your account, or Air Live Drive, is GUI based if you're less comfortable with command line software.
Be aware, your internet connection and hard drive speed will determine the overall speed of a virtual drive. Files 'in use' are cached (stored) temporarily on your local hard drive and so the speed of that drive will, along with your internet, impact how quickly files are made accessible.
I don't use Mac, but you could consider Rclone and MEGA CMD. Mount your MEGA account as a local hard drive using Rclone, and your files would be visible as if local to you. Rclone is a command line tool.
MEGA CMD, also command line, provides a WEBDAV server option, so again your files become accessible as if local to you.
I appreciate it's not altering MEGA's interface, but does better integrate your computer and MEGA account.
Not that it helps you with MEGAcmd, but Rclone, is a command line tool also capable of syncing files with MEGA. I don't use either, I'm afraid, but was aware of Rclone's existence.
An alternative is to mount your MEGA account as a local network drive (via Rclone) and use standard file sync software such as FreeFileSync etc. to sync between the two folders.
They state the information is kept local to your machine, but ultimately you rely on their honesty. Air Live Drive has been around for three years, and I've used it for about two years without issue.
If you wanted an open source alternative, Rclone will also mount a MEGA account as a local hard drive. It's CMD line rather than GUI based.
Rclone (Command Line) or Air Explorer (Win or Mac GUI based) should both be faster than MultCloud's free version. Both are desktop-based.
MultCloud actually does not use your internet connection at all when transferring files between cloud accounts. All transfers are handled by MultCloud's own servers. Your computer or phone doesn't even need to be switched on.
The issue though is MultCloud's free service handles only two transfer processes (threads) at the same time and uses their general free servers which will often be heavily loaded. Together this will slow down file transfers between cloud accounts.
Rclone and Air Explorer both use your internet connection, but should still transfer files more quickly than MultCloud's free service. The amount of data you can transfer is also unlimited.
I've used Air Explorer but not Rclone and it works well. Rclone is likely to be quicker than Air Explorer's free version because Air Explorer (similar to MultCloud) limits transfer processes in its free version. Rclone does not have a premium version and does not impose any transfer thread limitations. But it is command-line only.
Yeah, well I think the second solution might be easier to scipt using MegaCMD combined with the linux scheduler. But it does not feel very elegant. Maybe if check if all transfers are finished before stopping the sync using the transfers command somehow.
The first solution might be something. I have heard about RClone before, not sure how nice it plays together with Mega, might be interesting to hear from others about implementations like that. On the RClone MEGA page I can see some caveats, let's hope this works well, because it might be a nice solution. Might even work in my FreeNAS box (BSD, not linux, so no MegaCMD sadly).
The folder you choose to sync with MEGAsync isn't necessarily the same location as your download folder. The default MEGAsync download location on Windows is My Documents/MEGAsync Downloads
, so check there if you've downloaded a file and can't find it.
If you want to be able to sync between two different cloud services you should take a look at rclone.
It doesn't exist within settings but in Windows you can use ShellExView a small free utility that shows all shell extensions and allows you to disable and re-enable MEGA's context menu. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
Open the application and scroll down until you find MEGA (Context Menu) in the left hand list. Right click that item and choose Disable Selected Items. Open Windows Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and highlight Windows Explorer then press Restart. The MEGA context menu should now have been removed. To restore context menu open ShellExView and select Enable Selected Items then restart Windows Explorer as before.
I did a clean reinstall and that seems to have fixed it for me! I used a program called AppCleaner, because they don't beg you to pay and other junk. Then I redownloaded MEGA Sync, and it started working again!
The only thing I can suggest now is uninstalling it and reinstalling it, if not maybe compile it yourself.
If you still have issues, maybe try MegaBasterd.
I've used Air Explorer (sister product) for a couple of years and never had cause for concern. Such utilities tend to be created by smaller companies.
A company offering a similar product is RaiDrive You need to pay for their software to use MEGA as read and write. The free version is read-only.
You also have Rclone which is a CMD line tool that, from what I understand, can also mount a MEGA account as a local drive. But I've never used it, so can't comment on its functionality.
If not done already I would try MultCloud. It's browser based and allows you to transfer files between cloud accounts. It uses MultCloud's servers, for transfers, so once a sync task has been started your browser and computer can be closed. A free account gives you up to 30 GB of data transfer per month.
My friends and I choose MultCloud to manage multiple MEGA accounts. We add them into one MultCloud account so that we can view all files from different accounts at the same time. It's possible to sync, also to download specific documents, not all.(but manually)
I hear you buddy. I opted for Mega because I wanted to use a service that protects my privacy, that is end to end encrypted and therefore cannot read my files. It's the reason I quit Dropbox, and am in the process of quitting Google, but now it seems I cannot trust Mega.
There are other E2EE cloud services such as Sync.com and Tresorit.
No problem. This guide explains how to install rclone https://rclone.org/install/ . This guide describes how to mount remote cloud storage with rclone, just put in details for Mega and ignore the rcrypt part https://bytesized-hosting.com/pages/rclone-gdrive
I know https://rclone.org/ has a copy and sync command. The copy command copies files while the sync compares files and downloads ones that have changed. Follow the wiki, since I don't fully understand rclone.
I had a 2TB Dropbox + a 2TB Google Drive. Those terrible (really) cloud solutions have a useless web interface, and really so f...cking bad Windows client. AND you can't get more than 2TB as an individual !? Without paying MUCH more as if you were 10 people in a business. I mean sh1t...
Anyway I moved to MEGA (was scared at first as I have 20 years of my 3D modeling work in there), took an 8TB account (you can even get 16TB, that is so much more marketing clever...). And I 've ever had any issue with them.
MEGA is here for a long time. As far as I'm concerned they can definitely be trusted. Be sure to keep your MEGA recovery key safe. And that's about it. The rest is just pleasure.
EDIT : I actually had some weird speeds issues sometimes (seldom). But changing my NordVPN proxy location usually does the trick.
When you download, your browser will create temporary files (on your Chromebook) the same size as the files you're downloading. Once the download has completed, the files are cleared.
So after you change your default download folder to your external hard drive, your Chromebook will still need at least as much available free storage space as the files you're downloading in that session.
As the files are in your own account, create multiple smaller download folders, each of them less than your Chromebook's free storage space. I'd try a folder download first before trying a zipped folder download.
Although it's not officially supported (no third-party app is) you could look at the Android app Autosync for MEGA, which has some of MEGAsync's features within a mobile app. If your Chromebook can run the app, it might give you another download option. I've never used Autosync, I'm simply aware of its existence. It will though create temporary files, on your Chromebook, similar to browser downloads.
MEGA tracks all IPs connected to any MEGA account at any time. If your IP changes because of a VPN, or if 20 users from different countries access the same account, MEGA will of course track all IPs.
"Original IP", "IP that I have set when" ... not sure what you mean. But it does not make a difference. You access your account. A VPN version of you access your account. Your spread-around-the-world-family access your account : everybody's access is tracked.
I use NordVPN for years and an 8TB MEGA account also for years. Never had any issue.
Only use of a VPN (that I know of) is for free users to bypass MEGA download limit.
Using Netlimiter on PC or Network Limiter Mini, I can control and clearly see speeds.
And sometimes MEGA is utterly (especially you're right the Android client). For some reason (don't know why really) if I just change my location using NordVPN to another country (European seems to work better) I can go from 600 KB/s to 30MB/S or more.
So maybe grab a free (although I don't believe this truly exists) VPN. Or spend some bucks a year for a true VPN (I'd advise Nord as it's definitely excellent and I got it for... maybe about 6 or more years). And being able to get new identities in different countries helps with a lot of things. Including MEGA speeds.
In the end I found a solution with a third party app, Autosync for Mega.
It can work with any folder from the phone, full sync, upload only, download only, etc. I had set up all my photo folders for upload only, and switched off the upload in the Mega App. Works very realiably, actually better than the official app...

Hi there again. I'd like to point out that since the MegaSync program is the only one I have issues with using ProtonVPN in split-tunnel configuration, it's not very likely that the issue is with ProtonVPN. Google Drive sync, Microsoft OneDrive, and P2P software work in this configuration exactly the way that's expected as well.
If you've tried different browsers and others with the same link have no issue, I'm wondering whether it's related your ISP. Have you been able to download MEGA links from that computer and location before? It would be worth trying using a VPN which would both remove your ISP from the equation and also connect to different MEGA servers if that was the issue. If using a VPN works you know it's one of two things.
A basic free VPN such as would be suitable. You get a 10 GB monthly allowance and it doesn't require any sign up.
Hello, we have passed your feedback to our developers. It's hard to know what's wrong there, networking is very complicated - and it may turn out that it's ProtonVPN doing something not quite right. Unfortunately, our developers are working on other priorities and new products. We are not able to spend time investigating on this issue related to ProtonVPN.
Hi, thanks for the reply. I only posted about the issue here on Reddit in one of your sections, since when I Googled I had found at least one previous post about the same issue - probably archived so I couldn't add on to the pre-existing thread. Here's my Reddit post MegaSync on Windows 10 not connecting (specifically, logging in) with ProtonVPN split-tunneling and Mega not set to use the VPN. I had also PM'd r/MEGA once after that. Thank you in advance for looking into my issue, and one more user who posted in my thread has the same problem.
They do, but there's an unofficial MEGAsync app that I think does what you're looking for. You have to pay for premium features but if you know how to use Google you might find "solutions".
This app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ttxapps.megasync&hl=en is not developed or authorized by MEGA. We do not recommend using any third-party tool.
I have only seen this problem when trying to sync lots of files, i havent noticed this when syncing single, or few files.
I believe yes, it is Autosync for MEGA this is the app
it says MegaSync Pro when the app is open
It is probably because its your phone. Google does have a unzip native program if i remember correctly but if not grab winrar from the app store andriod app link but make sure you have enough room on your phone because it may need cache room as well as room to extract unless you trying to just grab a single folder. Outside of that...maybe grab the datpiff app i guess for the meantime.
Using a VPN is safe 'if' the company is upfront about not keeping logs. Without connection logs they can't trace any activity to any specific user and so if authorities got involved the VPN company could and would say they had no information to provide. Of the free VPN providers I'd say Proton, Windscribe and are about the most upfront. What you saw with the transfer quotas, while using a VPN, is normal. MEGA's focus is on storage (directly or via importing) and sharing of illegal files rather than the downloading of them. If you don't import or store illegal files you should be fine.
I haven't used Mega for long time, so I didnt know that they "patched" megadownloader. I've been looking for solutions for the transference limit, and the only thing that has been working so far is to use Zenmate through the extension in chrome. It changes your IP address, so you reset that limit and download whatever you want. Just need to change your location when the 5gb limit is reached.
Not sure if there is a better/more efficient method
How good is that VPN though? 2 years sounds amazing for only 18 bucks but I wanna make sure the VPN actually works before I purchase, because I had a friend recommend Betternet and it was completely free but it would almost never open and run on my laptop.
Hi, are you using the official MEGA app to upload the files in Android? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mega.privacy.android.app
If so, could you send us a link or more information to and we can try to see what is happening?
About the future of MEGA, be sure: MEGA is not going to disappear at all. More info here: https://www.mega.nz/#blog_40
Thanks!
if you have an android phone then use any decent file manager which supports zip files. for example - this app :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.solidexplorer2
PS: it has 14 days trial. for other free alternatives visit /r/AndroidQuestions and search.
