I don't think it's an issue. My stock Google boot animation that I kept from Android 6 – or found and reinstalled – used to lag on occasion. The LOS bootanimation occasionally lags on me as well.
If you're really concerned, you could try pulling the files into Photoshop and reducing the quality slightly, although you'd be dealing with up to 70 individual JPEGS, then use that as a GIF and install it with the app below (or another – I'm only familiar with that one).
Another option is to remake it as a GIF and use an app like Boot Animations to install it. You'd have to also save it elsewhere and copy it each time unless you know a workaround to flashing the .zip file; it doesn't work from me, for whatever reason.
Last option, back your current bootanimation up and use the app above to modify it directly and play with the quality settings and frames per second.
I have experienced this with the official rom. Strangely an app fixed this problem. Manually it won't work but if I did it through the app it worked like a charm. Here the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations
Ah. Gotcha. If the aesthetic is all you're going for then you could find a nice bios boot gif or video (then convert that to gif) and plug it into this app and it'll make it into a boot animation.
I don't think the theme engine is even working yet. You might be able to with something like this, but I don't know if it's working on 7.1 yet so I take no responsibility if you get a bootloop.
If it goes wrong you need to reflash the default ROM Using ADB and/or Recovery which will skip the Boot animimation sequence.
The app I have used in the past, although it has changed its name which may mean it works differently now, is Boot Animations for SuperUser https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations.
To be clear, rooting that device is more risky than changing the animations to remove audio cues, and the unnamed device might have added a post log in sound as a system log-in signal, so this won't help, but if for some reason the person cannot reset their phone and the phone is say causing trouble at work or in class or worse, that is why I said how they may remove the sound. Not that they in an ideal situation should.
bootanimation is a zip who contained image step by step of the animation. It is stored on /system/media/ and you have just to find one and replace with it (or if it is flash zip, install it via twrp) just search custom bootanimation on google or you can also use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations
I guess you know that you need root. This gif most probably would look ugly, try searching for one with your phone resolution, I know because I tried with small gifs like this one. I used (not 100% sure) this app here to convert gifs to boot.
I do this with Lineage. I find a GIF I like, do whatever I need to do to the individual JPEGs in Photoshop, change it back to a GIF, and then fine-tune FPS and size or whatever in Boot Animations. Once I have the original replaced via the app, I copy it and use FX Explorer to just delete and replace it when I flash the nightly. Probably an easier way to do it, but this works for me.
Here's how you can root your phone, I can PM you the file for the boot animation if you wish. This is the app I used, it makes the process so much easier.
The guide you use WILL VARY on whatever phone you have.

This app helps, but you have to ask OP for .zip with boot animation

Manual method would require you to replace the bootanimation.zip file located in /system/media.
Or you could use an app like this.
You will need to find or make a proper bootanimation.zip file of whatever animation. Here's an example. Or if you're using the app, there are a bunch available from there as well.
2 things need fixing
use this app
change desc.txt like this http://imgur.com/hOvbXTm (use your resolution)
You have to be rooted but you use Bhoot to upload and download the boot animation as your phone. Then once you have the file on your phone, download Boot animations and install it with that.
Run it through this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations
There is a premium option to direct convert a gif to boot animation. Just did it on mine!
You do need root. And you will also need a bootanimation.zip file of whatever you want your boot animation to be. You can find ones other people have made or make your own using Boot Animation Factory.
You then need to get the file to the /system/media/ directory on your phone. Boot animation factory can flash it to your phone for you or you can find apps that can do this on your phone or you can do it manually on your phone if you have a root file browser.
Here is my bootanimation.zip of this
You can probably google to find a lot better guides to do this and more specific guides for your particular phone.
Did it!
Currently, my XZ1c startup goes like this:
My goals:
I've seen tools like Boot Animations for Superuser that promise to change the boot animation... but I believe they're referring to the LineageOS animation. I'm not trying to change that.
Also found this abandoned Splash Screen Creator tool from 2011. The comments suggest it no longer works.
This post suggests the solution is in \ramdisk\res\images\warning, but I'm only seeing some battery images there.
Any ideas how to achieve these changes? Thank you!
Root your phone and use this app or replace bootanimation.zip file on /system/media
I usually use this app. Shouldn't it be a .zip file?
Requires root, but yes.
You. An modify the system files manually of use an app like this to do it for you.
You need a rooted phone:

I've never used a network locked phone, but if the Verizon splash is just a boot animation, you could use an an app?
The premium of this has a gif to boot animation feature https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations
I'm rooted and I just use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.apps.boot.animations
Perhaps you could try this
If you're rooted, you can change the boot animation completely
