I have used both, the iOS version is far superior, not in features as both are equal in that, but stability I mean.
Me and my GF use this app called Couple, she has worries about me opening snapchats in public but this app lets her send all the photos and videos she wants and I can watch them all I want and also send her things back. You can send them as "secrets" so that he has to hold on the screen to look at them, or just as regular pictures and you can both set PIN number locks on the app(no Fingerprint compatibility afaik) so that if someone takes yall's phone then they cant open the app and see the pictures and videos without his PIN. Your pin and his pin dont have to be the same of course. Good luck :)
Couple app. Been using it for years. There's a "thumb kiss" thing that lets you both put thumbs on the screen and it will vibrate when they're in the same position. Loads of other features but that would be most similar to the I Love You app. She has iPhone I have Android.
I personally started using Trivia crack, I like the app but the questions are very silly. Secondly, wheel spinning for every other question is not something I would like.
If it had us to choose one topic and give us questions and result after each round, that would have been more intuitive.
Second app I am interested in is "Couple". This is thumbnail kiss and paint. Not bad to try once.
I never started using Allo, aside from a couple test conversations before moving back to the other platforms I used with those contacts. Mainly Slack and FB Messenger.
Also, while it's pretty light on features, I use Couple with my wife. We don't really need any of the fancier features most chat apps offer, and it's neat that it's an app solely focused around a 1:1 conversation with a single contact.
There's a long-distance relationship app I think you may find interesting, called Couples.
My suggestion is to implement a message/email system. You should reward sending messages to your partner with points, to encourage use of your app, and to foster couple communication.
Additionally, you could implement a randomizer whenever a partner(1) requests a task. In return for the other partner(2) accepting the task, a random task is chosen for Partner 1 to complete. It adds an element of risk for tasks, promotes give-and-take, and the random element will keep your partners requesting tasks.
You could implement that with the message/currency system, to allow a partner(1) to request a task without a random task being chosen for them(2) to complete.
Best of luck with your project. I would be interested to hear what you come up with.
I liked an app called couple back in the day

Their website http://trycouple.com/ no longer exists and I get a “not available in your region” error from the App Store and Google Play Store. Maybe they folded?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tenthbit.juliet this one is pretty good from what I remember, haven't used it in a while
I use Couple on Android because it allows you to create SHARED lists. My wife and I can add items no matter where we are. :)
Try Coupe, I didn't stick with it though.
WhatsApp does everything we need (pictures, video, voice)
Maybe you guys should use Couple.
