This application for Android is a life saver(need root): DriveDroid
It lets you mounts ISOs on your phone and you can boot your computer from that image.
No way!
I ask, as I posted the competition around here....
Did you see it here and/or what are your plans? I'd go with a Tasker shortcut to
>OK Google, show me /r/androidcirclejerk
and then fix their shit PC with Drivedroid while using wireless adb and charging.
edit: Calling [Ron](/u/4567890) because he's good at this shit.
I just use DriveDroid on my Android phone and mount my ISOs virtually. I always have my phone around so I don't have to worry about losing a USB drive. I keep a copy of my favorite distros, some rescue CDs (Parted Magic, SystemRescue CD etc) and even copies of Windows and MacOS (TechTool Pro).
Essentially my phone behaves like a portable virtual cdrom drive and a rescue toolkit that can bootup and rescue any computer system. :D
In theory, sure, you can use an app like DriveDroid on a rooted Android device to boot from your phone as if it were a USB mass storage device.
In practice, though, for Tails specifically, this is likely much more trouble than it's worth. For example, to overcome the requirement that the boot media be at least 8GB in size, you may need to resize the .img
file to at least 8GB, or modify the GPT contained in the file. There may be other issues you encounter if you try this.
Cannot recommend drive droid enough.

Boot ISO direct from your (rooted) phone, handles multiple Isos etc etc
Currently got a live CD, a winpe recovery image, a Windows password recovery and windows 7 and 10 on my G4.
Used it once in about 3 years but booting a PC directly from my phone and blanking the admin password felt like something out of CSI cyber. Brilliant.
I was quite happy the day I first did something similar from my rooted phone.
DriveDroid lets me boot computers from Live ISOs as though from thumb drives, or CD/DVD. Thumb drives can be presented as read/write, or read only.
Not being tied to media felt like streaming a movie, as opposed to having to go rent something.
Yeah I just spent an hour researching stuff like this. Apparently IODD bought the Zalman thing(?) and they make similar devices now.
My friend pointed out that it's inconvenient since the devices lack a battery so when you reboot or plug it out you have to set it up all again (which can be a pain if you have many ISOs).
I also found this which is pretty cool: DriveDroid
In theory. DriveDroid is an app that used to work for me, but it requires root, doesn't seem to work on Android later than 7.1, and it hasn't been updated in a few years. You're probably better off using a flash drive. If you want to use more than one image on the drive, give Ventoy a try.
Unfortunately you can't. There are apps like DriveDroid that can turn your phone into a bootable USB, but it requires root.
If you have a rooted android phone and USB OTG capability, you can look into this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.softwarebakery.drivedroid.paid&hl=en_SG
First of all, I would like to say thank you for your reply.
Before the V20, all my phones were rooted within a month (my V20 is ~8 months old).
I used to change ROM frequently the first month to see the one I found liking more.
Maybe I used to do so because in the past I bought relatively old devices, but I don't know.
I'm also scared about losing the 2nd screen feature, that I love, and I would like to get security updates too...
The main reason I would like to have the root would be for using apps such as DeviceDroid and gaining more granular control on the underlying Linux kernel...
Sooo...
IDK
Current competitors for the Hirens crown are:
Those looking for practical solutions to use them besides usb drives have a look at:
Zalman/IODD VE200/300/400 (IODD is currently holding a IndieGogo campaign for a new design)
Servers Ultimate Pro, which among many other things has a PXE server option
If you do prefer a USB drive-ish size but also prefer larger storage this option is cheaper than buying a overpriced large USB drive, https://youtu.be/tNUC26HFbnU
Use your phone as a multiboot USB drive.
