Type Mail
Clean, highly customisable... should provide everything you have asked there and supports all the various email providers.
I have tried all the main email apps and have stuck with this one for a few months now, can't find any reason to change from it.
You'll get a lot of different opinions on this very personal subject. May I suggest that you try all of the ones suggested here and settle on the one that works best for you? TypeApp is my email client of choice and I've tried them all. I used to use Nine but it was too buggy for my needs. Good luck!
In the AW phone app, you should be able to set the app that is used to send mails in order to switch it to gmail
maybe that already solves your problem, otherwise I don't know
I myself have resently switched to Type Mail for its wear integration and the possibility to answer mails with user-defined canned responses from your wrist
As you're open to the possibility of an alternative email client: TypeApp allows you to do exactly what you are asking, and much more (root not required).
You can add multiple email accounts and configure the notifications per account. So you could have your personal email push notifications 24/7 and your work email only Monday-Friday 9-5, by setting 'Quiet hours' and 'Quiet days' under 'Do Not Disturb' for the account. Notification sounds/LED flashing/vibration are all configurable per account also.
That, and Android Wear compatibility, make this my favourite multi-account email client for Android.
You're looking for TypeApp Email: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trtf.blue
I have my work email setup so it doesn't sync at night or weekends.
I'm surprised I'm the only one who likes it...
I like Typeapp because it handles all my Gmail and Outlook accounts without a hitch. That it also has night theme, swipe gestures, and useful peek functions (mark as read, delete) are an added bonus.
You can also download a mail app like this one (I personally just use Inbox for my emails) and configure your WatAIM credentials on the app.
I use TypeApp. I have gmail and non-gmail accounts with it, works great. Tons of options for customization too, regarding how to notify you from certain email accounts. I like that is has the 'Star' option that you get with gmail as well, as I use that often.

I use TypeApp for my work email accounts. It's served me well over the past couple years. I don't know if it'll do everything you need it to but it's definitely worth checking out.
I'm using Email TypeApp - Mail & Calendar for a long time and IMHO it's one of the best...
Email TypeApp doesn't open to a list, but the sidebar has icon tabs for each account (you can reorder them too), and they have unread badge counts. Pic
FYI, Bluemail is clearly the same app as TypeApp, listed under a different developer. Even the descriptions are similar. In reality must be the same developer and it is a bit shady.
I'm having this issue as well. I had it on my M9 a couple years ago, it lasted for a good 6-9 months.
I switched to typeapp and while not flawless, it does notify for new emails much more often than gmail does.
Type app has a transparent widget. This is a different client though. Im sure you could set up a way to click on it to open Gmail instead of typeapp
TypeMail is the best email client with wear support. You should check it out.
Full custom options for what you want on the wear options. I have options to mark as read, star, reply, and reply all.

Type Mail is the best email client going with full wear support to mark as read, reply, forward, etc. All your emails in one place and it works great:

I'd love this module. For now I'm using Blue Mail, it has "Mark as unread" in the notification. Plus it has a dark theme which I like.
Here's a few apps I recently installed and I really like:
Typemail: beautiful email client. I used a lot of email apps and this one is the best. FREE.
Blackplayer: Probably the best music player ever, it's just simply gorgeous. I used the free app for a week and it's all you could ever want from a music player. Paid version.
#NoChromo: basically, it's a modded Google Chrome. It doesn't have ads. The only downside is that it's not on Google playstore (duh). FREE.
English dictionary: it's English-English, what makes it truly special is that it's less than 15mb and you can use it offline. FREE.
Google clock: it works as a perfect replacement for the stock clock, and it has a beautiful widget. FREE.
Timely: Another clock app, I don't think it could be a replacement for the stock clock app but it's gorgeous. Probably the most beautiful clock app I've ever seen. FREE.
(OFFTIME): The best app for blocking you from using another apps, you can also add few apps to access during your offtime, I used it while studying for the finals. FREE WITH IAP.
Textra: the best app for SMS, it's beautiful, simple, and I love it. FREE WITH IAP.
Monospace Writer Beta: Simple, intuitive note taking app. FREE.
Simon Tathem's Puzzles: 38 logic puzzles, free, no ads, playable offline with adjustable difficulty/size. FREE.
I felt nine was well worth the $10.
I mean there's always outlook (but a lot of businesses have blacklisted it for storing your data on their servers).
Some others on the play store (not used many of these):
I can recommend Type Mail.
Hands down Email TypeMail https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trtf.blue
Its truly a great email app. I use it for work, helps with reminders, follow ups etc. By far the best
Type Mail
Best email app I've tried on Android, automatic night mode, handles multiple email addresses, a unified inbox, able to mark as read from notification bar, remind emails for later. It's pretty much perfect.
Today Calendar Free Paid
The best looking calendar on the market and it's worth supporting the dev for automatic night mode alone, he is very active and does a great job with the app.
Viral Pro
The best alternative to the youtube app, with some time spent on configuration the experience become very enjoyable, the popup player can be used in combination with 1HP app, to watch twitch stream while doing something else.
I use and like TypeApp, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trtf.blue
Seems to fit your criteria.
Blue Mail and Nine are both good.
That said, Microsoft's new Outlook app works the same way as CloudMagic and most people don't have a problem with that app.
Try TypeApp. I think it checks all of your boxes. Not sure about saved searches.
I've tried many email apps and the best has been TypeApp.
Is is this? What makes it better than Nine?
Typeapp is pretty good.

Email TypeApp allows you to configure quiet hours per account. I have the exact same use case as you.
Try Email TypeApp - Mail and Calendar: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trtf.blue
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trtf.blue
I love that app because it gives you an option to not do the gmail bullshit of grouping emails.
Utilizzo questa e mi trovo molto bene, la utilizzo sia per Gmail che per Outlook.
I always suggest type mail for android. The easiest thing to setup:
Try TypeApp
I've been quite pleased with TypeApp so far!
Aliases will be coming next week to TypeApp ;)
I use TypeApp Mail for my work e-mail. It allows you to setup "off times" where it won't sync individual accounts.
Try out typeapp mail. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trtf.blue
I use TypeMail. Material design, snoozing, and a great dark theme too!
Link me: Blue Mail. Best mail client. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trtf.blue
I've been using TypeApp for a couple of years now. I like it. I find it better than the stock Gmail app in most ways. It's much, much more customisable, plus you can escape that horrendous conversation view if you want.
The only thing I found to be inferior is the rather slow and limited search for old emails. I think all 3rd party email clients are going to run into this problem however. For this reason I keep the official Gmail app installed but with sync disabled. If I want to find a really old email, I can sync the relevant account in a few seconds then search.
Nine email is buggy. Try TypeApp mail
