If you don't find what you're looking for you can use a third partyHeads up notifications app to only show notifications from your music players, semi transparent for 3 seconds.
Well i use it on my Redmi3Pro with MIUI8 GlobalDev. I replaced the stock notify screen with this app. The only thing that you have to do is disable ONLY "Floating notify" in phone settings for every app with floating notify. (Cuz will cause a double floating message) When you get a notify, you will get the new floating screen(can be customized with different theme) and with a single down swipe you can read the whole text and select to answer or close. With a right swipe you can remove the notify. Sorry for bad eng^^"
This is how looks like : http://imgur.com/a/1bd62
This is the Gplay Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=codes.simen.l50notifications&hl=it
There are apps which allow you to replace the default notification boxes for different ones. Try searching "notification" in the Play store and see if it helps.

Try Heads-up Notifications: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=codes.simen.l50notifications
On my previous phone, it would turn on the screen and give you a preview of the notification. Haven't tried it on my Moto Z but I have a feeling it might interrupt the Always on Display.
I can't quite think of the name of it, but there's an app that completely overhauls the notification system. This isn't it, but maybe give it a try?
This is good to know.
I've been using this app on kit kat to get notification previews on the lock screen. Works perfectly.

That looks like the ticket. I had switched through so many launchers and lock screen mods on my Note 2 I must of had something like that installed and forgot about it.
Thank you.

This one? Does this have an option for fixed size of the notifications panel on the lockscreen, like NILS ? I don't want my entire lockscreen to be covered by notifications; instead I prefer a fixed, adjustable size with scrolling.
Let's hope they at least take a cue from this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=codes.simen.l50notifications
which works pretty well for me, for what it's worth.
Here it is for anyone who's interested.
Oh I know what you mean! Sadly, you can't do that on EMUI without an app like this one.

One of my all time favorite/most useful apps.
By default I would not receive notifications while the phone was asleep. The only 'change' is the status light that blinks on the phone would have a different color.
I was 100% sure I was doing something wrong, but after Googling I found that I was "just a pleb iPhone user" who doesn't understand how much better it is to not have the screen turn on.
The second thing was badges, showing a count of how many notifications I missed... This makes total sense that I could look at an app and see a number of missed notifications for that specific app.
I again googled and found that I was a casual iPhone user who needed this information that Google has found to be redundant... so another app had to be installed to complete this function.
Lastly I wanted banner notifications, so I would get a box showing the text or facebook notification that came in... Googled, and realized I needed another app for that.
Apps used:

Had to download/tweak Nova Launcer as well - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher&hl=en
And for badges - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.notifier&hl=en
This is insanity to me, so Android... I tried but you make no sense to me.
Also the battery life is god awful... No imessaging is hard, no airdrop is hard, Sending a high quality picture to a friend is basically impossible now... SMS just destroys the picture quality, airdrop doesn't exist, etc... I have to email each photo one by one in order to maintain quality.
