You can carry inside the vehicle only. Leaving the car, it has to be locked up. "Locked" can be in the glove box or center console, as a latch counts as a lock.
Currently, IL recognizes zero other state's licenses, because we suck.
handgunlaw.us (.pdf) probably has the best info. Legalheat is a pretty good app, have that on my phone.
Has anyone used Legal Heat? It was recommended by my CC instructor so it's the one I've been using. I'd be interested to know how it compares with these other options like Is it Legal and CCW.

There are some apps you can get for your smartphone that have that sort of information.
For Android, there are 2 that I use:
and
CCW – Concealed Carry 50 State
The advantage to these over a piece of paper is that they are updated regularly to include new laws/reciprocities.

If you've got a smart phone, there's a good app called LegalHeat, which covers concealed carry, open carry, and transport laws.

Classes are great. And for a great overview I'd suggest the Legal Heat app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mylegalheat.legalheat&hl=en_US
First, get your permit to carry.
Then get Legal Heat (Google Play link) and consult it for reciprocity and laws for every state you will pass through.
Do. Not. Carry. Illegally. I don't care what some of the Internet Toughguys on here say, it's not their ass on the line. You are asking this question because you want to be a safe and legal gun owner - even if you disagree with local laws, don't ignore them.
