Were you taking long breaks between mags or something? I don't care how cold it is out, you put 2 full mags through a can and it is flesh burning hot.
You need some tactical suppressor gloves
Did you put the optic on it?
The no-name chinese import stuff like the 3-in-1 optics are not known to last very long. If you paid the $100 or so for one, that would have paid for most of a quality Bushnell 1-4x. If it came on the rifle, I am afraid of what you paid for it.
ATF begs to differ, but yeah, doggy earpro exists and if they're with you they should probably have it. Note, getting them to wear it is probably a whole nother issue.
> There may have been a firing range nearby at one time.
Might not have been an actual range. Training in the olden days was a little more... Free form, with less concern about things like "poisoning the water table" and "injuring and maiming soldiers".
Sabre Jet Ace was one of my favorite books at the crappy, tiny school library at my rural elementary school and in it the author describes field exercises involving planes dropping 50lb sacks of flour onto the training area to simulate bombs. And it was done while people were moving through the engagement areas.
We actually have this scope called a Copperhead - it's the exact same scope as our Crossfire II series, but without the fast focus. You can find one it looks like for $135 and then tack on a decent set of rings and stay below $200 and have a full lifetime warranty forever on it. Just another option for you. NO tried to sue Glock in the 90s, blaming them for a surge in shootings in the city. Glock said that if they did they would bring up in court the one-for-one program and point at how most of the shootings were being done with Police trade-in .38s, and what did the NOPD think Glock was going to do with them? Sell for scrap value?
Yup.
For $1,000 you could also get a 55 gallon drum and 400 pounds of Hershey's Syrup and submerge yourself in chocolate like a sweet cocoon. You'd have about 8 drums worth of chocolate syrup so you can swap it out once it starts to smell. Should last a while.

Living a life as a technically-proficient redneck:
The use of a dead squirrel, chipmunk, or other varmint to convey a message is called a 'mammalgram.' Just FYI.
Depending on how much land he has and what the tree canpy looks like, he can rig a moderately-good FLIR system for about $200 per 150 feet of fencing. But it requires having pretty good abilities with both solar and wireless networking. Or he can buy stuff off the shelf, like this one, and connect it to his preference of network surveillance system. Note that the more area you need to cover, the more expensive this gets. How many acres is he looking at?
Booby traps are against the law, but deterrents are not.
I love my LCP. But I will say the sight picture is absolute garbage, especially against a dark background. I suggest buying some white Testors Model paint and painting the front sight. It's helped me tremendously as I use this for my EDC in the summer since it fits so well in my shorts pocket with a pocket holster.
Another thing I had to do was buy a foot extender for the magazine so I could get my pinky on it while gripping the firearm.
This is my favorite pocket holster for it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0033Z1VJI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1yhdCb460T1JE

Overall I love the firearm as its a pretty versatile pistol. Make sure you get to know the trigger pull since it's DA only and a little heavier than most realize. The hammer will half-cock after you rack the slide and you can't decock unless you unload and dry fire, at which point you cannot fire until you reset the slide.
Great tip!
Along the same lines, superglue on cotton will spontaneously catch fire due to the chemical reaction.
Literally impossible to go wrong with these. They come in different colors too and the prices vary. Other vendors on Amazon sometimes have them for less.

>I realize you would still be alive as opposed to being potentially dead or disabled, but it still has the potential to ruin your life
Rather be judged by twelve than carried by six, etc.
>situation that warranted drawing, and potentially using lethal force.
Any situation that warrants you drawing should warrant your immediate use of deadly force - that is to say the protection of you or another from the immediate threat of death/grievous bodily harm/etc (variable on your local laws justifying self defense). You shouldn't be drawing to intimidate.
There's plenty of information on DGU cases/case studies out there:
Oh sweet Jesus thank God I'm dicking around on the Internet on a Friday night.
No, do not use sandpaper. First remove all the oil with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol and take the grips off. Then give it some electrolysis.

Afterwards dry it completely (alcohol again) and lube it correctly.
I think the problem is not that you're right and they're wrong. It's that you don't allow them to save any face. People have egos and you don't give them a way out. The Art of War suggests that if you don't give your enemy an escape or at least the illusion of an escape, they will fight you to the death! If you're ok with that then fine but a sprinkle of psychology goes a long way toward creating pleasant interactions. I'll bet you're fine with hearing harsh truths. Most people aren't (at least in this culture).
I'll aim to be helpful.
First, that configuration is definitely not going to work. Your forward mount is not secure (it might be snug, but the recoil lug is actually behind the slot - this will get loose on the first shot or two and you'll never be able to zero it).
If you want to use this scope, get some cantilever rings. Nikon, among others, sell them, like so (I have not tried the rings I linked, they were just the first search result). That way, you can get the front end of your scope mounted properly. Note that you will need to do some math and make sure your height over bore is where it should be.

Emojis display differently in different applications. Some publishers have their panties in a wad over the gun emoji, so it displays differently depending on what applications you're using. For example, I'm seeing a cartoony ray gun that does kind of look like a cordless drill.

So let's keep motivated here ladies and gentleman. There's been some good advice floating around gunnit lately on how to act and engage anti's and let's keep all of that in mind while they're amped up emotionally. As sikhanddestroy commented in PE's post here, "If you shout down people, you're ignoring the fact that he's trying to hand you a noose with his neck already in it."

-- Gun Politics News for Australia --
The pass few weeks following the Orlando shooting have seen Australian media take huge steps backwards in fair coverage of the gun control debate within Australia with the GCA calling again for more bans and getting some traction. The median refusal to publish fair discussion has no doubt eroded the work that the firearm community has been working towards in the last six months.
However with the election just around the corner some light might be coming along as well. At this point in time it looks like there will be a hung parliament and with the Shooters Fishers Party now being renamed to Shooters Fishers and Farmers party hopefully they can get a few seats in the the always hotly fought over senate.
Thanks, that's all from me!

Apologies for the potato pictures but I'd rather spend money on guns
Took two of my WW2 snipers out the other day. The Swede is shooting 140 gr Bergers on top of 40 gr of RL-22 with Privi brass and CCI primers. The No4 is shooting 174 gr SMKs on top of 38.5 gr of H4895 with Hornady brass and CCI primers.
The Swede shot MOA with flyers that were entirely my fault not the rifle's. The trigger is a typical two stage but the second stage could be measured in ounces. She's wearing a 5X Hensoldt as Swedish marked 4X Ajack scopes are very rare and priced accordingly. The glass was fantastic for a 75 year old scope with only a minor loss of clarity and yellowing on the edges. Shooting the M41b was fantastic and my only further piece of gear would be a leather repro cheek pad.
The No4 was a bit of a bear to get running well. It came to me sporterized and took many months to fit the stock so that she would shoot reasonably well. The rifle turned in 2.5 MOA groups with some serious flyers. While the cheekpiece, the low scope and the ground off front sight are nice touches this is like putting a silk tie on a pig. Enfields are not accurate rifles by nature and it took much trial and error to shim her effectively. Trying to get it right led me to purchasing Peter Laidler's book on the subject which I highly recommend. It took many months, shims and raw linseed oil to properly bed the rifle.
u/CadeusVao this one's for you
Hope you folks enjoy my bad pictures and decent shooting
My wife's best friend, as in her maid of honor best friend, shot herself in the head after fighting with her boyfriend. She died a few hours later, might have even noticed that she was dying and probably realized how bad she fucked up by shooting herself in the head. It was bad man.
Access is what did it, her BFs gun was unlocked, in a drawer, loaded, and ready for bear.
I double lock my guns because I have a 16 year old, he's a normal good kid, but they all are until they're not. Either way I use trigger locks and slide locks. Trigger locks are combo locks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A08EC3C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - this exact one.
I use these for slides: https://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-Cable-Gun-99KADSPT/dp/B0007PRN76/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1522261940&sr=1-3&keywords=slide+lock+gun
The keys are kept in my safe which is bolted to the foundation internally, it's going nowhere. My home defense weapon's key is hidden in a pocket I made under my nightstand that no one could possibly even look to find, that weapon is a .45 commander with combo lock/slide lock, and the clips are in a locked case under the gun. That case is a combo lock, same combo as the trigger locks, it's a 10 second process to unlock both trigger/ammo, 10 more seconds to grab key/unlock slide lock.
I love older Berettas and have been collecting them for a few years. Technically all three of these pistols are BB models and pre-date the use of the “Cheetah” name. However, Cheetah has become a popular nickname for all of the Series 81 pistols. Here is my coalition of Cheetahs in .22lr, .32 ACP, and .380 ACP
Beretta 87BB - .22lr
This is my absolute favorite .22 pistol and my favorite Cheetah. It feels and handles like a full-size serious duty-caliber pistol and is very reliable and accurate.
Beretta 81BB – .32 ACP (7.65 mm)
.32 ACP is a fantastic little cartridge designed by none other than John Browning himself. The .32 ACP has a long history of military and police use and is very enjoyable to shoot. The 81BB is a lot of fun to shoot and is a great teaching gun with its low recoil and good accuracy.
Beretta 84BB - .380 ACP (9 mm Short)
This pistol is chambered in another John Browning designed cartridge. The Model 84 is the double-stack version of the .380 Cheetah and holds 13+1 rounds. The trade-off for that higher capacity is a much chunkier grip than the slim single-stack Model 84. These guns are regularly available from CDI for less than $300 and are a great way to get into Cheetahs.
TLDR
I love the Beretta Series 81 pistols and have collected a few.
They sell these on amazon for literally $12. From the picture it appears someone took a dremel to it because it looks like shit.
Edit. Theyre $16

Snopes has a good discussion of frivolous lawsuit legends in general. It mentions a case where a burglar got trapped in a garage for eight days and sued for mental anguish. It also mentions the famous "lady sues for being burned by hot coffee" case, which turns out to be not at all frivolous.
As my last infographic was mildly popular here, I thought it'd be best to post my newest version of my "Idiot's Guide to UK Mainland Legal Guns" with the new release of my written Gun Gide having been updated, ported to and now released on Rentry.co
Whilst it's more of a Hotfix than a revolutionary jump from the Version 1 Section 1 + Section 2 Infographic to what is now the "Idiot's Guide to UK Mainland Guns V1", it does have a few community suggested tweaks such as changing the Mosin to a Lee-Enfield, changing some of the phrasing used in Section 1 Firearms and Section 7 as well as adding a bit of extra polish to go along with the infographic, that in all honesty will be easy to miss without looking at it under mircroscope, as always criticism is always welcome!
And Please do share this with any brit you find that's interested in guns.

Hello /r/guns, I have a request.
I took home the M30-IMP today, and swung by the range. This thing is surprisingly accurate, if nose-heavy. I bought it mostly because it had a 1980s dystopian future kind of vibe to it, and I am going to take it to the steel match in a couple weeks and put it through the paces. Now, I could just take it to the line in a hard case, but where's the gun in that? I want to walk around with it on my hip. And for that, Reddit, I need your help.
If I take the flashlight off the bottom, I could probably cram it into a breaching shotgun scabbard. That seems cheapest and easiest, and I could probably even get it locally. But even the shot VooDoo Tactical one seems long for this use.
Strike Industries has a retention system set up for a sling swivel stud and hey - I have them! But it doesn't have any means of policing the barrel, which is a bit iffy with my use at the range. Plus it's expensive.
And there ... I run out of ideas. Custom make something? With all the width at the nose, I would need to start with something like a quiver. Any ideas on something designed to take weight? Bonus points it it looks like it would fit into a Robocop or Mad Max movie.
My go to form of bachelor chow is curry packs with a pound of chicken and two or more pounds of mixed frozen vegetables. It makes for a week or two of work dinners for under $12. I've lost nearly 40 pounds by using curry to mask the horror of eating mostly vegetables.
If maintenance sees it, you aren't storing it properly. And there are a ton of ways to transport firearms that don't look like firearm containers. I got one of these:

I had this friend.
"Well, I can't afford a haircut."
"Everything nice I've owned has ended up in a pawn shop. Like I had a PSP... pawned it. Had an xbox... pawned it."
Had a roommate who'd always pay rent a week after it was due. I'd front her the money.
You ever read a story on /r/guns from some poor sap who "had to sell his Python" and would love to have it again?
I have two AK-74s. You know why? My other roommate couldn't make rent.
You have two choices. Choice one is that you buy this $850 scope and it's great and you fool yourself into thinking it was worth it. How many hours are you going to spend using it? How much is each hour worth? I bet you on a per-unit-of-happiness basis, strippers and blackjack would offer more for your money.
I'm not saying you have to be without an optic. Put some 3-9 whatever on there for now.
But don't buy expensive shit you can't eat and can't sell for close to its cost when you have "limited funding."
If you've got time, read The Richest Man in Babylon. Someday buy more guns if that's your thing.
What FC says is supported by lots of evidence. A social economist from MIT named Dan Ariely studies this stuff (e.g., value of having a comparison). I highly recommend his book, Predictably Irrational. It's a great read on how humans behave irrationally in the market place. Did you read it FC?!

Well there's a lot to unpack here, but let's start at the top, the writer of fortunate son was John Fogerty, who actually did serve in the military in the 60s, and while the song was obviously speaking directly to the war in Vietnam, it addresses the age old disparity of race/class/economics and who gets sent to fight this countries wars, which historically can be traced back to antiquity. If your interest in the history specific to Southeast Asia and Vietnam particularly I would recommend this: https://www.amazon.com/Vietnam-History-Stanley-Karnow/dp/0140265473 Or this: https://www.amazon.com/Vietnam-History-Stanley-Karnow/dp/0670746045 There are thousands of books from Veterans themselves that would offer 1st hand perspectives as well, and I would be happy to recommend some,, and you can't go wrong actually sitting down with some veterans and talking to them. You'll find an amazing cross section of beliefs, values and perspectives on many subjects.. The VA has wonderful volunteer programs for supporting veterans (I should know, I'm a 10 year Army Veteran and Counselor for Homelrss Veterans at the VA). As for the rest, I would propose that no one is more "anti-war" than those tasked with fighting it. And to presume that a song writer who writes songs about social disparity, and over reach of government is likely not "pro-communism" or "pro-censorship"....just sayin...
Paul Mauser had almost nothing to do with the design of the C96. Fidel, Friedrich, and Josef Feederle even had to work on the pistol in their spare time as Paul was not that interested in handguns. He did not discourage them from doing so however.
Mauser Pistolen covers this very well, and C&Rsenal has a great episode on the C96. Also, even Theo Bergmann was more of a financier and less of a designer. He just got his name stamped on most of the designs because he was the money man.
You are really asking a lot from a single bag. But drago bags amd voodoo bags are pretty decent but two rifles is a pretty big bag.
It's really hard to go wrong with Howard Leight electronic earmuffs. They're probably the most popular type around, and I really don't think casual shooters need anything fancier.
And personally, I double up. I use the above earmuffs in addition to foam earplugs.

Psht, everyone knows the best way to kill a helo is with a laser-guided bomb:
"In an interesting air-air kill, a F-15E fighter/bomber dropped a laser guided bomb onto a chopper in the air. The chopper was on the ground initially loading up commandos, though it took off. Even with it taking off they left the laser on it and the bomb hit it when it was "200 or so" feet in the air. A special forces team on the ground witnessed the event." Source:Wikipedia
I got my 40-gun (so, 20 guns in reality) Cannon safe delivered from Costco for $799. An extra $20 to the delivery driver got it to my basement door from the curb. It has 2 electrical outlets, a USB jack, and an ethernet port on the inside, serviced through a sealed connection (to help maintain its fire rating) by a plug and USB/ethernet ports on the outside.
I don't use the plugs for a dehumidifier; rather I use one of those canisters with the rechargeable silica, and I use the plugs and ports for a 3TB hard drive that backs up my home network.
The only issue I have with it was a slight chemical smell from the carpeting adhesive (cleared up with some deodorizer and coffee beans) and a friend of mine with the same safe had his electronic lock go bad after a year and it was out of warranty, so he had to pay for a new mechanical lock and a locksmith to drill out the old one and change it.
Similar featured safes at sporting goods stores were a few hundred more to start, and tack on $200 for delivery - that made the Costco membership I purchased worth it (and I've continued to shop there so it was a win-win).
Warehouse store selections vary - this appears close to what I have with slightly different branding - although it has a door organizer which would be nice!

Yup, using a gun mount magnet from Amazon.
I just started using it but I think it will work out great for me. I work from home most of the time so it's a good spot for my EDC to live. It's not immediately visible so I'm not worried about an intruder finding it during a break-in while we're sleeping and it's with me if I leave the house.
I added the padding discs on top of it and that reduced the magnet strength a bit so I ordered a second magnet. It held there fine if I put it right in the sweet spot but I didn't want to risk it ever falling off.
A firearm with a cable lock through it is not readily available.
Personally, I stage my AR empty chamber, bolt forward, safety on. One yank on the charging handle and I’m ready to rock. But then again, I have no children in the house and all who live here are trained in the use of the gun.
If you want to lock and have it readily available perhaps something like a ShotLock AR Vault is up your alley.
You can refill those.
Disclaimer: I am in no way encouraging dangerous or illegal action, just bringing to OP's attention that it can be done.
The NICS is the background check system. It's actually run by the FBI but the BATF administers firearms laws. Same difference either way. Obama can tell either/both of them to slow down or stop the checks.
Music wire is pre-tempered. So it's spring-y out of the box. I bent it to shape around a printed jig, retained the spring a metal enclosure, then removed the jig. Throw the metal enclosure and spring in the oven at 500 degrees for 3 hours. This will anneal the spring. Once it cools, remove the metal enclosure. The bends will be in the right spots, but not at the right angles. Since all the coils have straight bends, just take a pair of pliers and straighten the bends.

I've got video of using the jig and capturing the spring in the metal here.
Found it through the WayBack Machine
Unfortunately not all the videos or pictures made it, but the gist of it is there.

A new study is out claiming that criminals mostly get guns from personal connections, prefer handguns with large capacity magazines, and don't tend to keep them for very long. The survey found that criminals usually obtained guns from family members despite the fact that they were barred from ownership by past felonies, meaning that the family member exemption of past UBC legislation doesn't stop anything there. I'd also like to point out that this is in Illinois, where a Firearm Owner's ID card is required for firearm possession and ammunition purchases.
Worth a read, even if the sample size is relatively small. Supports the ideas that "assault weapons" are not the problem and that UBCs and licensing don't stop criminals from obtaining weapons.
I purchased this from Costco and have it bolted down in my home. The benefit to ordering online from Costco is that they will ship it for free via a freight delivery. Eliminates you having to drive the hour or more, loading/unloading from your truck, and it typically is delivered fairly promptly. I've got about 7 long guns in there and 5 handguns and there is still plenty of space for more.
That was utter horseshit. They use a Handyscan, which cannot capture a bare metal (reflective) surface. I use one at work about 10 times a year, it is the most difficult to use thing ever. If the surface is not flat white, forget about it.
Then they skip the part where the scanner gives you a lump of triangles, not solid models. So they just skipped modeling it up in a parametric ACIS kernel piece of CAD (Solidworks, Inventor, etc).
Then they skip the part where they had to soak the Zcorp wrench in Cyanoacrylate for 3 days until it was solid enough to not disintegrate in your hand. That stuff is cornmeal, with a sucrose binder. If you infiltrate it with Cyanoacrylate in a bell jar, you can get something barely passable.
Real men use ReconstructMe and Kinect controllers (Doesn't cost $35,000) and FDM printers.
I gotchu: Amazon link.
It's amazing value for the price. Good reviews. Works just fine on my plinkers. Make sure you get a cheap riser if you want any sort of co-witness.

I got this and a motion sensor and my safe is bright as hell. I highly recommend it. The strip is sticky backed so it worked perfectly.
Oh NOW Trump is opposed to an AWB and mag caps.
In his book, he wrote about his support of gun control including:
•Mag caps •Longer waiting periods •the Assault Weapons Ban

see definition number two, the terms are, in the actual english language, not in your head, basically interchangeable, it is only in very narrow circumstances, ie reloading, where the possible distinction is remotely relevant
edit: here's another one http://www.thefreedictionary.com/bullet
If you have a Costco membership, they have a .50 cal can + .30 cal for $20, both have rubber gaskets. Don't know that they're exactly milspec, but quick look says they're the same as the ones I got from Army surplus.
I would recommend a Christmas tree light switch. Just tap it with your foot to complete the circuit.
I love mine

My grandfather shot actively at Camp Perry at the National Matches, even earning himself a Palma medal.
He wrote a book on how to precision shoot with the M1 Garand.
Basically all the tips and tricks to make it more accurate.
Here is the Amazon listing but if you want it cheaper PM me. I'm sitting on about 400 books in boxes

The TRS-25 hits the price/quality mark perfectly for a gun you're just looking to have fun with. The rebate deal they had a month ago is over, but you can still get one for $70 on Amazon.
I sent a note to Henry asking what they recommend, and they said Flitz Polish. Works great!
Link to Amazon where I bought mine.

I agree. I've used lead remover cloth to get the burns/fouling off of my stainless steel Ruger GP100. This was the only product that seemed to really do anything. Sometimes it takes a bit of effort, but it always does the trick.

It's a Diamond D, sold several different places but I just got mine on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JL3VF1A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, after seeing another Reddit user with it.
Hell yeah, gotta know a tiny bit about HTML and download Tasker, but yeah it's fucking beautiful!
Free version has less reticles. I don't think the ACSS reticles are in it. I use the Strelok+ app as well.
Edit: I recommend using the Google Opinion Rewards app on Android to get free Play store credits. Thats how I bought the Strelok app at least.
The source says 12 cores actually made it through the can, the rest were all trapped and no baffles collapsed and the tube didn't even bulge.

They will charge for a few, big services which are detailed on the bottom of the second page. But for the most part, normal wear items will be replaced for free (If necessary of course). It is a great program and one of the reasons LEO trade ins are such a popular option. Buy a used Glock that was issued to a police officer, potentially only fired a few times during qualification and even if it has a few worn parts, you can just send it in to Glock for a tune up. If it needs heavy refinishing on the slide for example, that might cost $60 and a couple of extra weeks, but it's certainly cheaper than buying a brand new gun. I hope this helps, if you have any questions, let me know. Cheers!
If it was not designed to be fired one handed, it would not be legally eligible to be sold as a pistol to begin with. Despite having a handguard, the official word from the manufacturers of rifles-turned-pistols is that they are designed to be fired with one hand.
Putting a vertical foregrip on it would absolutely make it an unregistered AOW. The ATF has officially stated that the AFG is ok, however. Here's a copy of an ATF response to that effect. (look at question #7 near the bottom.)
I would be opposed to it under all circumstances, just as I'm opposed to tracking people, cars, books, cellphones and pretty much everything else.
Control freaks can go F themselves as far as I'm concerned.
Pretty much anything we want in life we save for a little at a time out of each paycheck. We save for things like Christmas, vacations, taxes and healthcare stuff all year round and that keeps things evened out instead of random, large expenses. I have a "guns & ammo" budget each month and if I want to buy something expensive I'm saving multiple months worth of that budget or taking some out of my personal spending money.
I'm a huge fan of YNAB - https://www.youneedabudget.com/
The solution is quite simple.
Google "judicial vs. due process" argument that Holder recently came out with, prosecution of whistleblowers, less transparency, the push for an Internet ID, expansion of the security state under the NSA, the CIA working with the NYPD, NDAA, signed the Patriot Act extension, continued many of Bush's worst policies, using the expansion of Executive Power when it benefits him...
