I think doing the workbook more than once is fine. Ken Wapnick also mentions that 'let me do it a second time, this time perfectly' is your ego talking, but he does say that you'd have to read most things in ACIM more than once to get it.
Yes the lessons are quite hard, you can try to set reminders on your phone if you like. But if you fail to do it perfectly it's a great forgiveness opportunity. I've stopped judging myself for forgetting the lessons, and keep moving to the next one even if the previous one didn't feel "perfect". On some days I've forgotten about the lesson for almost the entire day, but still moved to the next one the next day. This seems to work for me. The reality is all 365 lessons point to the same truth, you do one perfectly and you've done them all.
tl;dr: try to do it perfectly, but forgive yourself for not managing it.
Edit: Here are Ken Wapnick's views on doing the lessons more than once, which I feel are often quoted out of context: https://youtu.be/Y-IN1edJlvU
Also for android I feel this is a wonderfully gentle reminder to do the lesson of the day. You can set it to remind you at whatever intervals are needed for the day... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.mindbell
I have the Mindfulness Bell on my phone. It dings periodically (you can set the interval) which causes me to take pause and recognize how I feel, how's my breathing?, does what I'm doing right now "fit"? I find if I'm stuck in a digital black hole (Reddit, Facebook, Youtube, etc) and the bell goes off, I'll usually think "WTF am I doing!?".. and then go outside.. LOL
Here's the Play Store link.. I'm sure Apple has something similar. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.mindbell
MindBell is designed for that exact purpose. It has a nice bell sound that goes off, and can be set to exact or soft times (i.e., 15 min +/- 2 min) or so. Great app.
There are mobile phone apps for that, e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.mindbell I think Shinzen Young's take was you can pick any mindfulness practice e.g. body sensations, thoughts, emotions or some subset of these.
I personally like MindBell. It's free, and lets you have a nice bell sound at intervals (choice of exact intervals or "fuzzy" intervals).
Like there's no specific amount of time in between the bells. It's different everytime. Do you have Android? This is the one I use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.mindbell
I started my DBT journey alone and still managed to make significant improvements (stopped cutting, stopped purging, the latest test my therapist did with me showed that I'm technically in remission - I still have borderline traits and will always have them, but I've come a long way). It takes a while though, and you have to always stay on track (or get back on it) if you want to benefit from the skills you're going to learn.
Mindfulness (+ missing links analysis and chain analysis) is the base of DBT. You first have to learn to recognize your behavioral patterns and distress level (in the moment, but also in general) before you will be able to change them. Filling out a diary card helps you (and your therapist) get an overview over how you're doing. You can use different mindfulness apps to remind you of being mindful, like this one for example. Try being mindful of your distress level every hour for about a week and write it down.
You (or anyone reading this) can send me a message if you need help! (I have both of Linehan's books, so just tell me which page you need help with)
you could look at mindfulness bell or similar apps for iphone. These are good to give you custom settings, for duration and intervals between chimes.
Both Mindbell and the Plum Village app can be set to go off throughout the day to prompt you to take a moment and return to mindfulness. Maybe these might be what you are looking for.
Meditation is great, thanks for bringing that up :) I've tried mindfullness meditation in the past. It brings you to now and here, rather than your phone screen. Helps you do things like avoid overspending too :) I don't do it regularly, I use it as a bandaid, although I know I'd benefit from more of it in general.
Oddly enough for this conversation--I do have a mindfullness bell app on my phone :D I can't decide it it's self-defeating or not, but I find it useful so far.
But you're totally right--meditation brings you out of the world of social media and back to someplace where you're more in control of yourself.
I use a timer, just so my mind wouldn't go crazy like "It's been already xxx mins for sure, you can stop now." This way I just sit until the bell rings. I started using the Mind Bell App for this. It has a meditation timer feature, where you can split up your meditation time in chunks. You can configure the time for each chunk and how many gongs it should play in the beginning / end. So I use this for doing 15mins of anapana in the beginning and vipassana the rest of the time.
You're welcome. I'm afraid I have never tested any of these apps myself before just now. A quick google search turned up "mindfulness bell", which seems to be a free Android app designed to do that (link). There are also browser plugins. For Firefox there is, for example, "Bell of Mindfulness" (link). I've taken a quick look at both of these options and it would seem that you are pretty much stuck with that bell sound and can't change it. Therefore, neither deserves my recommendation, but they are a an option if you don't mind running around with a mini-gong in your pocket that would just randomly go off throughout the day. :)
I use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.mindbell - it has a nice gentle bell.
This app is pretty popular: https://insighttimer.com/
Currently this one (on Android). There's more options though.

There's Mindbell which plays really nice Buddhist gong sounds.
I used this very simple app and thought it was helpful, but I could use some expert opinion! Thank you!
