Use night screen https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub Set it to overlay screen mode and slider almost all the way to the right and turn it on by tapping the sun icon so it becomes Moon.
Terrible battery? Buy a new one, its one of the major features why many choose not to leave this phone.
Slow performance? YMMV. I for one never had a problem except for the screen ghosting effect but that is easily correctable by downloading Night Screen.
Camera? get GCam.
etc? There is rarely any bootloops reported within this model.

I would say go for it, its been a great phone for me for the past 2 years, absolutely love it.
My V20 was an upgrade from a Droid Turbo, too! Every now and again i still miss the "twist" or "chop" gestures to turn on camera/flashlight, hehe.. Anyways, I have a Powerbear extended battery and so far performing well. I think their stock-size battery is good too.
For de-bloating, i think there may be more permanent and/or elegant methods with root, but i followed something similar to these instructions to use adb commands to disable some pre-installed apps: https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg6/comments/6mlzpx/how_to_remove_pesky_system_apps_like_facebook/?st=j56yeiht&sh=4fd14295
Accubattery is good, "BetterBatteryStats" is good too to identify wakelocks. The latter requires some ADB stuff, as well.
Also, though you didnt ask you should probably know: you will most likely experience image retention at some point if you haven't already. Easy fix is using an app like "Nightscreen" to ever-so-slightly-and-nearly-not-noticeably dim/alter the screen brightness to prevent the retention. (Again, there is a more permanent and elegant solution with root, if that is a route you prefer or want to consider) Good luck!
Yes no need to root for me. I use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub It has completely fixed screen retention problem for me. Set it to overlay mode and the slider almost to the right side. Click on the sun icon to become Moon icon to turn on the app. The overall change to the screen should be minimal depending on the slider but it totally fixes the retention problems.
I'm guessing the original white point used by the nav bar and status bar are causing the retention issues. The app changes the white point thereby solving the retention issues.
Not even surprised, always thought this app looked super sketchy.
If anyone needs an alternative, Night Screen (also available on on F-Droid) is simple, free, and open-source.
This is already known, to my understanding most people use Night Screen and set it on 80-85%.
I'd rather trust that than your random zip tbh
You can use this app called Night Screen:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub&hl=en
Set it to "Overlay System Mode". If you leave it in "Normal Mode", then you will see the same problem as with sFilter. Setting the top slider just slightly less than all the way to the right seems to be sufficient to avoid screen retention.
Thanks for the tip!
To be clear, there are 2 different apps in the play store named "Night Screen". This is the one we want:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
I had been using sFilter Lite to avoid screen retention, and it does a great job of that, but recently I noticed that it interferes with the Facebook app. For example, you if you go into the settings or initiate a new post, then you can't interact with resulting screen.
With Night Screen, I see the same problem if the app is set to "Normal mode", but if I set it to "Screen overlay mode", then it avoids the problem. Cool! I think I will be staying with this app.
Night Screen is also very small, open source, no ads. Kudos to the dev!
Try Night screen. Click the icon (should be "sun" icon by default) to change to "moon" mode, move the slider a smidge from the far-right, and set to "Overlay System Mode".
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub Set it to overlay screen mode and slider almost all the way to the right and turn it on by tapping the sun icon so it becomes Moon.
I just copied what /u/newnexus5 said on a previous post, it works tho'.
You can fix the screen retention, download this app, set it night mode and move it over just a tad to the left, like a cm to half an inch-ish.
Only real problem is you have to remember to restart the app if you restart your phone, and screenshots may come out dark.
Use night screen https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub Set it to overlay screen mode and slider almost all the way to the right and turn it on by tapping the sun icon so it becomes Moon.
This app fixed my screen retention issue on the v20 which was notorious for it. I think it changes the pure white used by the navbar and notification bar. The pure white was causing the retention issues.
If you want to fix burn in download night screen by paper plane dev team and have it on all the time. You should have the slider right around 90 and run it in overlay system mode. link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
Set to "moon" mode (default should be "sun"). Brightness slider a smidge away from max (or however dim you prefer..), set to "system overlay mode" (instead of "normal mode").
Hey!..Before u change ur display...Some things u said know...Even if they change the display which I think is rare and they wud say many silly reasons to not to(I live in India too),the replacement display they provide will not be of good quality as the one that came with the phone and my phone has bad image retention too and I was also worried abt tat..Then I started using night screen I'll link tat down..Put that in overlay mode and slide the bar to the right and place it just before the end point and scale that app to 18:9 and click that moon symbol...ur retention will go away for sure and ull not lose ur picture quality...Keep it on everytime and if ur retention gets worse change that under warranty just before it ends like a month before!.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub Here it is...Hope ur retention goes away..Bye!
my g6 had image retention too and I was also worried abt tat..Then I started using night screen app.I'll link tat down..Put that in overlay mode and slide the bar to the right and place it just before the end point and scale that app to 18:9 and click that moon symbol...ur retention will go away for sure and ull not lose ur picture quality...Keep it on everytime. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub Here it is...Hope ur retention goes away..Bye!
I used to say night filter app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub in overlay mode which worked well. But then it would leave status bar white while the info text is white too in all apps so u couldn't see the text. Along with delayed response from fingerprint unlock to home screen and pressing the recent button to switch apps had delay too.
So I rooted the h915 and can finally have natural fix to the retention issue without all those problems I listed above.
Use night screen https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub Set it to overlay screen mode and slider almost all the way to the right and turn it on by tapping the sun icon so it becomes Moon.
It's just something most v20 suffer from. Try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
Set to overlay screen mode and turn the slider almost to the right side. Click on the sun icon so it becomes Moon icon to turn the app on. This fixed my retention issues.
Night screen. If you're on oreo, the it won't cover the status bar or bottom nav. but i have zero retention elsewhere, and only need to darken it just a tiny bit for it to be effective.
I don’t - it’s an open-source app, so I’d be surprised if it’s doing anything sketchy. Make sure you’re downloading the right one - I got it here on F-Droid. I haven’t tried it, but this looks identical on the Play store. There are a few apps called Night Screen, you probably just downloaded the wrong one.
Use Night Screen (F-Droid, Play Store) at 80% - 90% (adjust as needed). It’s open-source, super simple, and completely fixed my screen retention.
This works. Just beware that apps like sFilter interfere with some actions, so you will need to turn it off occasionally. For example, in the Facebook app you can't change settings or submit a new post if a screen overlay app is active. You also can't install side loaded apps.
Another option is to use Night Screen and set it to "Overlay System Mode". This avoids the limitations mentioned above. One caveat with Night Screen though is that it doesn't have an option to start at bootup, so you will need to renable it after restarting your phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
Night screen by Paper Airplane Dev Team. Tap the sun icon (change it to moon icon), move slider a tad over from the right (i.e. slightly below full brightness) side, set to "Overlay System Mode". PROS (over sFilter): it runs in system overlay mode so it also helps prevent image retention of the nav buttons at bottom. CONS (over sFilter): Due to (or, at least related to) it being overlay mode, it makes the text/icons of the notification bar remain white, so when the notification bar itself changes colors to white or a lighter color for some apps/etc., it becomes hard to see/read during those specific instances.
This is the best Screen Filter if you do not want to be giving your phone a weird yellowish color. It pretty much just put a darkening filter over the display to prevent the harsh whites and some colors from burning into the display.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub&hl=en
you can fix image retention using night screen by setting it up in overlay mode and using these settings
I'm using a night mode app that works fine. I just have to remember to turn it on when I restart my phone. It doesn't auto open
Edit: it's this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
Try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
Set to overlay screen mode and turn the slider almost to the right side. Click on the sun icon so it becomes Moon icon to turn the app on. This fixed my retention issues.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub&hl=en
This was mentioned in a thread about the retention. It's worked wonders for me, I don't see any ghosting at all even after an hour straight of screen time. Set to Overlay System Mode and move the slider to at most 80%, there's some flickering on the second screen but it seems harmless.
I'm in the same boat and also use Night Screen. The problem seems to settle down after a while of using this fix too but I still use it anyway.
And this app works great: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
It reeally depends on the OEM and screen that you get with your phone. No one wants their phone to be barely visible, if the brightness setting is changed...
I found this Night Screen App
It's free, has no ads, and is open source. Really simple to use and it's better than the night screen that comes built in to my phone.
This Night Screen is open source. It uses a screen overlay but has multiple options. You can enable it in accessibility settings as well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
Night Screen does this. Really any tint/red filter/night shift app can do this. In my experience night Screen is the easiest to use and activate.
Once screen retention starts up (which it fucking will) and if your not rooted get Night Screen
Ah, linksbot got the wrong one. I use this on my G4 Play. Now if only it could dim the motion-activated clock screen.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub this app is what i use. Set it to overlay screen mode and set slider to almost the right side.
I've been using night screen, haven't had any issues. Doesn't use data and it's light, 827Kb.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
Stock 7.0: Night Screen, problem solved
Stock 8.0: Night Screen, but due to changes to Android, it can no longer cover the navigation bar.
Rooted: Use Kernel Adiutor and turn your screen colour settings down (you can find good settings on XDA)
Lineage OS: Open settings > Display > LiveDisplay > Colour calibration, turn them all down to around 90%.
Try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub Overlay system mode dims the status bar for me. You have to click the sun icon in the top left of the UI to activate dimming.
Use this app instead https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub&hl=en
Use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub with system overlay mode selected. I personally recommend version 1.3.0.2 since it works best for my v20
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub&hl=en
This app should be stickied for how common this issue seems to be.
Just to clarify. This is the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
There are multiple app with same name night screen.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub This one works great, Ad-free and open source.
Maybe try the app Night Screen, turning the slide down to around 90% should fix screen retention.
this will get rid of ghosting
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub&hl=en_US
Night Screen is small, simple, free, and can dim the nav bar if you set it to "Overlay system mode".
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
I was actually reffering to the free app.
try this app, it covers the navbar and notification bar if you set it to overlay mode
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub&hl=en
Haven't had any retention since I started using this.
Night Screen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub&hl=et
Free, easy to use, no ads.
Just link them directly https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
First time searching I also got confused with same name apps.
You are right. I found an open source app that does this pretty well, buy it uses screen overlay. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.papdt.blackblub
