Add any sound effect you want to the removing and replacing of the S-Pen.
I had the sound of a lightsaber opening upon taking the pen out, and the sound of the lightsaber closing when putting it back.
Edit - For those that can't get it to work, I'm sorry I don't know what to say... It was definitely working when I had my Note 8. The Google reviews have tips that I posted elsewhere in the comments that hopefully can help resolve any issues.
It's called Note Buddy.
It can take any mp3 sound file from the phone and apply it to removing or placing the S-pen. So naturally, I had lightsaber opening when I took it out, and light saber closing upon putting it back in.
Find a sound file of the sword noise you want and you'll be set.
Rocked it on the Note 4 to give me a Lightsaber sound for pulling out the Pen, and brought it back on my Note 8.
Note Buddy lets you play a custom sound when you take the S-Pen out and put it away. I set mine to make a lightsaber noise when I take it out and a car lock sound (beep beep!) when I put it away.

Download an app called Note Buddy - you can apply any sound effects you can find to pulling the pen and placing it back.
I have lightsaber noises personally.
To search for sound effects (and ringtones and wallpapers) - Zedge.
Not an xposed module, but I still use this even though I'm not using a note anymore.
There used to be an app that let you apply any sound file to removing/replacing the S-pen (I say used to because I don't know how well it'd work on Android 9 & 10) - Note Buddy.
I hope there's a successor somewhere out there.
Nice was looking for is a way to turn the screen off when the pen is inserted. Found an app to do that, but if the phone is locked by it, fingerprint reader doesn't work on the next unlock (only password). This Note buddy app sadly does the same. Might be an Android limitation.

Hopefully this link works (on mobile). I don't know what other benefits it has (it's probably grown since I had the Note 4) but it allows for sound effects when puking and inserting the pen, which is what I had it for.

I use gallery and sync the photos to Google Photos. I also use Google Play Music which is a better value than any of the other streaming services since you get YouTube Red. Textra is a terrific alternative for text messaging.
I've not solved this yet, but I discovered that Note Buddy adds Tasker plugins for S-pen attached/detached states. I've not yet figured out how to select a specific input method, but it's showing the input select menu, which looks like it might be as close as I can get without rooting.
I feel exactly the same! I couldn't stand the TouchWiz ui and the lag when switching recent apps. I love CM12 but now I've lost all the specific things Note 4 was good at.
SPen should be working though. You can get some of the detection features of the SPen back with an app like Note Buddy.
Although the app that /u/steve0suprem0 linked (Note Buddy (S Pen Helper)) does the job just fine, in the free version you're limited to only three (3) apps (the pro version disables this limitation along with adding many more features). This app is NOT just for the Note.
Alternatively, you can also do the same thing when you plug in your headset/headphones using Tasker by following these steps:
Hopefully my instructions are clear enough. I can also include pictures to accompany these steps if anyone would like me to.
you've got some interesting answers, but they don't really cover it.
That being said, now that you know what you can expect - I recommend you still flash a CM build and play with it for a couple of days. While many of these items may seem like a dealbreaker, you may find that they aren't as important as previously thought.
For a bit of fun I have Note Buddy
It allows you to set custom sounds for the removal and insertion of your S Pen. You have to find and download your own sound files, but I've loved being able to make the wife eye-roll hard by having light sabre sounds.
This is a really nice AMOLED live wallpaper. Doesn't use more than 1% battery for me.
This let's you upload to Imgur with a nice clean non-album, advert-free URL, since I've found the Android Imgur app to be such a heinous POS.
This is incredibly useful for my job, and is well worth the small price to unlock all the calculators. The lighting one is also useful.
Sorry for the wall of text
Ok so 8 months ago, I got my first ever iPhone (XS Max). I was a devout Android user before that, dating all the way back to the HTC Incredible 2... Tried an LG G2, Note 4, S7 Edge, and Note 8 (seeing a recurrence?) before I went toward the XS Max for the experiment.
Each user is different, in terms of what they look for in a phone - I'm looking most forward to being able to customize ANYTHING I want on the phone - Android allows for different launchers, which can enable gesture controls (Nova Prime is my go-to, it is a paid app but it adds a lot of functionality - double tap screen to lock, Swipe Up/Down on the home screen with one or two fingers to open whatever app you want), change icon packs to match the aesthetic of your phone... adding to that, Samsung has a theme store and Good Lock that allows for more customization that most any other Android phone (to my knowledge) - you can change the colors on the notification shade, change the recent apps layout, add edge lighting notification lights... it's been almost 9 months, I'm honestly forgetting some Good Lock features (I will plug a video I found to be very informative for all the features - Thao Huynh - Good Lock For One UI - Detailed Overview (2019)).
It may seem like a LOT of work, and it can be, depending on how deep you want to go, but you can make the phone yours much more than any iPhone I've laid eyes on. On iPhone, you can't even place icons where you want outside of the left-to-right, top-to-bottom layout. You want your most-used apps at thumb level, just above the main dock? On iPhone, tough shit... on Android, put them wherever you want on the screen (you can even change the padding level to enable more grid space).
I'll also give a special shout out to the app Note Buddy which I used on my Note 8 to play the Lightsaber Open and Close sounds whenever I pulled out or put back my S-pen. I see that on the Note 9 it was much spottier in getting it to work, but if it no longer works, keep an eye out for a similar app because I love the functionality, if someone can pull it off.
