Oceanhorn comes to mind. It's paid, but starts off with a fun little free trial. Never got around to buying it myself, but I imagine it's worth it.
I downloaded a windwaker-esque looking game called Oceanhorn earlier. I was just looking at games lists and trying to find stuff. It's well.reviewed and has a good art style, but I've not had a chance to try it yet. The only thing that scares me about it is that it's free.
EDIT: Did a little bit more looking. Looks like the free part is a demo of sorts, and a single iAP unlocks the rest of the content.
Oceanhorn is a pretty good Zelda clone and "just works" with the gamepad. I definitely notice my XD+ getting a bit warm while playing it :)
Oceanhorn is on the Play store and he explicitly states he didn't side load it. Why call him a liar?

That seems pretty clear to me.
Not sure, but there could be the fear of getting 1-star reviews for this tactic, "The developer should give full version free >:(".

Because it's Zelda, duh. I mean, Link. Whatever. Console quality, console length, console price.

Oceanhorn! It just came out on Android a few days ago I think. It's a Zelda clone and people really love it. I haven't played it yet because I'm waiting for it to come to the PS Vita.

I can recommend playing Oceanhorn, Genshin Impact and Sky: Children of the Light.
Playing old mobile games can be tricky. They can be pulled from the Play/iTunes stores, archiving sites tend to miss files any additional data files required alongside the main APK/IPAs, updates may turn payed games into freemium rubbish, they won't necessarily run under later Android/iOS releases... and that's all putting aside the big one, "always online" games for which servers are no longer available. You're a lot more likely to "miss out" on many of these games if you don't play them when they're current.
Salvaging old games is a lot easier under Android than iOS, but it still takes a bit of know-how.
On the flip side, although a lot of genres just don't work on mobile due to the lack of tactile controls (I mean, sure, you can carry a controller with you but who does?), the ones that do work with a touch screen work really well.
So which genres are you actually interested in? And are you looking for casual pickup'n'putdown games, or are you happy with games that demand longer play sessions?

DungeonBalls (iOS): Pachinko / pinball puzzler.
OceanHorn (Android / iOS): Wind Waker clone which was eventually ported to PC.
Dead Ahead (Android / iOS): Endless "runner". Flee from zombies while avoiding obstacles.
Bastion (iOS): It's a port, but still one of the best games I've played on my iPad Mini.
Man at Arms (iOS): Tower defense with lots of possible strategies.
Cally's Caves (Website): Platformer built for mobile devices. Great music.
