If you want to flash through the app you can use the official TWRP app which requires root. If you want to flash using TWRP itself you download the img to your device and you click Install --> Image then you select the image file, select Recovery and swipe.
>I just installed LineageOS 16 on my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, I'm stuck in a loop where the phone tries to boot into the OS, but then, after 4 or 5 minutes it brings me back to the TWRP menu...
Format Data (instead of a simple wipe data) in TWRP + Advanced wipe of Cache, Dalvik / Art Cache & System then flash LineageOS + MindTheGapps one after the other, in that order & in one go without rebooting in between.
See TWRP FAQ - What is a data/media device? for detailed explanations:
>"...In TWRP we also have a wipe internal storage option that rm -rf's the media folder and a "Format Data" option that formats to recreate the entire file system in case something goes completely wrong or to remove device encryption."
Format Data adds an empty encryption footer after the end of the Data partition for some future encryption related data if enabled.
Note that some users reported fail to boot with MindTheGapps if you select install the TWRP app when asked in TWRP. That app is fluff, wants to start at boot, run in the background, collect data & is not necessary anyway because the TWRP updates are not frequent & it's easy enough to update manually using TWRP itself.
Several users reported fail to boot after updating TWRP using that TWRP app as you can see in the Official TWRP App reviews in the Play Store.
>...I'm thinking it has something to do with MindTheGapps but I'm not sure. What do I do?
You could flash only LineageOS after an other Format Data + System & caches wipe to rule out that possibility as a troubleshooting step.
Download the TWRP App from the play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp&hl=en
Follow the steps. Select your model. It will install.
Download latest Magisk from here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Transfer Magisk.zip on your phone if downloaded onto a pc.
Power off your phone
Hold down power, home and volume up.
You will get into TWRP
Install from Zip File
Go to where you saved the magisk.zip
Install it
Reboot.
I'm assuming because you're rooted and Xposed that your bootloader is unlocked. Install TWRP and do a full backup. Then if you have access to a computer, copy over DCIM, Downloads, TWRP, and any other folders you might want (Music, Movies, etc.).
Are you using the official otg adapter?
According to this screenshot from the official app, twrp should never be flashed to boot.
If the device has root access, you may be able to use official app to install recovery:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp&hl=pt_BR&gl=US
I don't know about LineageOS Recovery, but TWRP is on the Play Store and requires root. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp
But, honestly, you should just buy a cable or get your port repaired.
>u/superluig164 - Okay, but what's wrong with the TWRP app?
Read the negative reviews in Play Store.
Many users including me reported fail to boot if you select install the TWRP app when asked in TWRP. That app is fluff, wants to start at boot, run in the background, collect data & is not necessary anyway because the TWRP updates are not frequent & it's easy enough to update manually.
So go to TWRP > Settings > General and disable: Prompt to install TWRP app if not installed.
What is the situation with their proprietary, ad-supported TWRP "installer" app? Has the developer clarified why the app exists in the first place?
>Use the app to alert you when new TWRP versions are released for your device.
Their website has an RSS feed.
>When a new version is available, download it using the app and install it (root users only) without rebooting to recovery.
Seems to be the only worthwhile feature. I might use this as a FOSS app provided that compatibility with the manual installation method would be the same.

Did you Format Data instead of a simple wipe data as recommended in https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/YTX703F/install ?
Did you flash anything besides LineageOS?

If you installed the TWRP app you need to do format date & wipe system & reflash LineageOS + Open GApps in one go before booting to sytem
>I installed Lineage OS and then Gapps one after the other using TWRP...
You forgot to mention essential troubleshooting info: your exact device model, LineageOS version + build date, GApps package name & TWRP version.

That's the LineageOS boot animation.

Download the Official TWRP app. Type your device's model number. Grab the latest version of TWRP and flash the .img file using your current TWRP, and then flash Magisk I think it should work for you!
Can you elaborate it a little more, please?

Running a Samsung Galaxy S8, I am able to install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp (is this the app you are talking about?).
My Google Play Services cannot downgrade past the may/18 update, so I wasn't able to spoof so far.
> Download TWRP from here.
I installed TWRP from here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp
Is that not necessary?
> TWRP is the custom recovery
I don't understand what is the meaning of recovery or custom recovery?
> Repeating stages 1 to 8 for updating TWRP Recovery 2.7.1 to 2.8.4 (Download TWRP Recovery Mipad 2.8.4) OR From TWRP Recovery 2.7.1
Do I need to do this 2 times - i.e. first 2.7.1 & then 2.8.4?
Did you download to microSD card or internal storage?
> flash it in TWRP.
What exactly does that mean?
I had random reboots on a Swift for the first couple of ROM revisions. Before I installed the 17/02 build I made sure I had the latest Crackling TWRP installed (using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp), wiped as normal and installed the rom, gapps and SU.
Touch wood since updating the TWRP not a reboot. And as far as I can tell everything is working, camera, 4g data, bluetooth etc.
Dunno if updating TWRP made a difference (I had read it might) but I can say its perfect now.
EDIT - Just remembered before updating TWRP it gave 2 red error lines during the flash process, cant remember what they said sorry. But after the update, no errors.
You can download and install with the official TWRP app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp
...or flash with Flashify:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify
To name just a couple of options.
Well unless there's a new major TWRP version with some feature you want or a fix for a problem you're having there shouldn't really be a 'need' to update TWRP.
If you're rooted then you can use the Official TWRP app that will automatically check for new versions of TWRP and can even update it for you.
Official TWRP App might be able to flash the latest available TWRP on your device.
I can't help but think of it as Team Win Recovery Project
The main people in this forum who I’d say are the technical experts all use this software/system called TWRP... for the custom ROM for the XD Plus they even built it in (side note).
I think it requires root access, but I could be wrong... I’d highly suggest going that route as I find it very easy to use the basics.
Just recently I had an XD Plus all set up exactly how I wanted it... then the hinge went bad. I got it exchanged and then just used TWRP to restore the backup I made from the defective device. There was very little I ended up having to do manually.
Here’s some links for it - I hope this helps and is what you’re looking for!
I also found this, in case you don’t already have this resource:
>Thanks for your reply!
You are welcome.
BTW upvotes on the posts you find useful are always appreciated. ;-)

Several users reported fail to boot after updating TWRP using that awful TWRP app as you can see in the Official TWRP App reviews in the Play Store.
TWRP updates are not frequent & it's very easy to update TWRP using TWRP itself as I described in that post which includes TWRP screenshots.
The TWRP app is cr*p. Uninstall it as it may cause a bootloop even if disabled.
Copy/pasting parts of a post I made here on XDA in the S5 LineageOS 16.0 thread Re: TWRP App Causing Bootloop or Fail To Boot which includes some screenshots:
Selecting install TWRP app in TWRP worked on LineageOS 14.1 and 15.1 & failed in 16.0 because LineageOS 16.0+ and Android 9.0+ are more secure & enforce app permissions denials more thoroughly.
After making a full TWRP backup: from a continuous logcat captured as described in GApps Bootloop & Logcat on LineageOS 16.0 on Galaxy S5 G900M that I captured for testing purposes after selecting install the TWRP app as a System app in TWRP & rebooting to System:
--------- beginning of crash11-20 04:02:56.647 574 574 E AndroidRuntime: *** FATAL EXCEPTION IN SYSTEM PROCESS: main11-20 04:02:56.647 574 574 E AndroidRuntime: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Signature|privileged permissions not in privapp-permissions whitelist: {me.twrp.twrpapp: android.permission.READ_PRECISE_PHONE_STATE, me.twrp.twrpapp: android.permission.BATTERY_STATS, me.twrp.twrpapp: android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS}…
From the full TWRP backup, I restored only the System & Data partitions to go back to my current setup as the other partitions were not affected by this fail to boot test.
>...So, you suggest to install the latest update and check the logcat in case of a bootloop?
Yes. You can search the logcat with some of the keywords you see above like "beginning of crash", "FATAL EXCEPTION" or just "fatal" for example.
If the boot problem is related to the LineageOS update itself & not to stuff you installed you could contribute to solving the problem.
See LineageOS Wiki > How to submit a bug report & attach your reboot logcat to it.
If you do that please link to the bug report here.

Try S5 LineageOS Super Clean Install including updating modem & bootloader & Format Data instead of just wipe data.

Did you flash anything else besides LineageOS?
Because either root methods LineageOS AddonSU or Magisk can be installed @ anytime afterwards contrary to LineageOS + optional Gapps if you wish which must be installed together I prefer to keep it simple when doing a clean install, boot to System, boot to TWRP & do a full backup then root.
My Galaxy S5 G900M LineageOS 16.0 klte OTA updated via Updater to build 2019-11-14 + Open GApps Pico + LineageOS AddonSU works fine.

Have you tried Format Data instead of wipe data as described in https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/beryllium/install ?
See TWRP FAQ - What is a data/media device? for detailed explanations about Format Data:

>...After the 1st boot, it asked for a password on startup, then I looked it up and saw that I've to wipe again.
Android's default encryption password is "default_password".
The reason your device encrypts by default is as you can read in the LineageOS Device Support Requirements Charter:
>Encryption
>
>All devices that supported hardware-backed encryption on their stock OS MUST support hardware-backed encryption.
>
>All devices that shipped stock as forceencrypt SHOULD default to forceencrypt enabled.
>
>All devices MUST support software encryption.

There is a problem with that build: the screen does not turn on after it's turned off. Get build 20191106 ASAP before it's removed for the servers to make space for new builds or older builds instead until it's fixed.

The app is very helpful
Official TWRP App - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp
Have you tried the app? Pretty sure that's what I used and it was pretty easy.

Make sure TWRP is updated to the latest version for your device by manually downloading the recovery image file here and install... then try again
If you are still unable to boot, this may be a bug that you'll have to report to the tracker here
If you manage to get it boot properly, I recommend downloading/installing TWRP's official app here for later updates and to optionally backup your device in TWRP before every update
Use this app to make sure TWRP is installed. Backup your phone, then install your ROM.
Also, if you're rooted, TWRP has an app that will flash the recovery for you from the system.
