PlayerPro. Has been in development for several years, and is still being updated. PlayerPro has pretty much every feature you could want from a music player - gapless playback, ReplayGain, DSP, folder playback, tag editing, album art download, scrobbling, flac/ogg, smart playlists, sleep timer, voice search, gestures, motion control .. And much, much more. :)
This. Been using PlayerPro across different Android devices for years. It is fast, stable, feature-ful, has various attractive skins, equalizer, auto album/artist art DL, and plays nicely with bluetooth, lock screens, notifications, etc. Best $4 I've ever spent in the play store.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend it (I have numerous gripes with this app, and the default UI theme is fugly), but PlayerPro handles my playlist of ~2,500 songs just fine.
Man, I wish I kept a play count on my Android this year some way. Is there an app for that?
Edit: PlayerPro Music Player
Costs $4.25, ^^^but ^^^there's ^^^also ^^^this ^^^site ^^^called ^^^TPB
No mention of PlayerPro either, which was released back in August 2010 and predates PowerAmp and pretty much every other popular music player. When it came out, it was the only player that supported browsing by folders AND had a built-in DSP. What's really impressive however is that a full decade later, its still being updated with new features (most recent update being Android 11 support) - and what's sad is that it's still pretty underrated even a decade later. :(
> When I was trying out local player apps, Gonemad Music player was the only one that supported sorting your library by "album artist"
Not sure when and which apps you tried exactly, but PlayerPro supported sorting by "album artist" as early as 2012. The app itself came out in 2010 and is still being updated. Also, when it was released, PlayerPro was the only full-featured player that supported browsing/sorting by folders as opposed to going by what's in your media library/ID3 tags.
I'm partial to Player Pro, it's $4 but worth it.
I've tried a few others like Shuttle, VLC, Foobar2000, & beileve it or not, Winamp and always go back to Player Pro.
I got used to this Player Pro so I keep using that. Definitely a better alternative than the stock music app which has terrible UI for folder browsing.
I've used Player Pro for ages and I really like it. There's a trial version if you'd like to try it out.
Do you mean this one? 🤔
I know Pinterest 😂 I used this to search for wallpapers, but I hated the app. The website on pc is much better imho
PlayerPro - in my opinion the best local Music player App! Way too unknown and underrated.
Also Pano Scrobbler if you use LastFm. Works well with PlayerPro and any other music app, including Spotify, Deezer, YouTube and Shazam!
The best music player app for me is PlayerPro.

Not sure what you mean by "handles". Can you be more specific.
The only player I personal every recommend is player pro. It has been around since the early days of Android and still gets updates. It is straight forward and has all the features I've ever wanted. Might do what you want as well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tbig.playerpro
Just my own opinion but I love Player Pro. T had been going for 10 years and still get regular updates. Straightforward, does not reinvent the wheel like some of the popular plates try to.

I've been using Player Pro since my old HTC desire. It is a quite traditional design but has loads of features, a bunch of themes, and is still being updated.

I use <strong>PlayerPro</strong> on my tablet, and <strong>Phonograph</strong> on my phone.
I really recommend Phonograph as it's open source, but PlayerPro has a really good interface for tablets/large screens, Phonograph does weird things on large devices.
That looks almost exactly like the PlayerPro app that I've been using for a few years now. The features you describe are pretty much the same as well. Is that a coincidence?

I use PlayerPro. Automatic stopping isn't a default setting, but you can turn it on. There's also a bunch of skins and widgets so you should be able to find one with large buttons and displays. Not that it will help you here, but it also has an optional shuffle feature that you can shake it to change songs. I think it runs like $5 or $6.
I use Player Pro. It's been around for several years, still regularly updated, and has all the features I need in a music player (like ReplayGain, Gapless Playback, browse by folders, album art download, tag editing, external SD acccess, and more..).
If your songs have blank album tags then you should fix that first - a scrobbler isn't of much use if your songs aren't tagged properly. :) The best way to fix your tags is on a PC, using mp3tag.
Not sure if you can with the stock music app. I remember being annoyed with that as well.
If you use your phone as your primary music player I'd recommend investing in a third party app. I use PlayerPro and it's pretty good. There's a lot to choose from and most of them have free trials so give a few a spin.
The stock app is fine for playing the occasional tune but it's not as robust as some of the other options out there.
I'm using PlayerPro. I bought the paid version and have some of the add-ons to support gapless audio. I also like the way you can browse by folder and de-select methods of browsing that you don't use so they don't even show up. It has an equalizer, but I don't use it with my Nexus 4 and Etymotic HF5.

I prefer to use Player Pro.
PlayerPro

PlayerPro, It's the only music player I found that allows me to use folders as play lists.
PlayerPro Music Player I love this app. I've used it for a few years now.
PlayerPro and their own DSP pack is the best anywhere. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tbig.playerpro&hl=en
I like the ProPlayer with DSP pack (you install it once you go into audio settings and enabling the DSP pack).
PlayerPro doss exactly that. Doesn't lookup lyrics though.
I've been using PlayerPro for 4 years now. For me it's the best.
I hope you were talking about this one.
Would be great if you could confirm :)
