Couple reasons I prefer mixing by weight.
Much more precise measurements. Those syringes are not accurate neither are the sides of a mixing flask. Well at least the ones that we will buy...
Also it is in my opinion it is way easier to scale up or down.
You also can just dump your ingredients in from the bottle instead of having to pull out the bottle out, take the top off, put the syringe in, try and take out the right amount put some back in take some back out.... I prefer the droper method personally much more precise.
Plus you dont have to keep buying syringes. (I know that isn't really even a thought for most normal people.)
As for varrying weight vg weighs the most. I haven't mixed in a long time but if I remember correctly each ML of vg us like 1.2g or something like that pg is almost a 1:1 weight ratio. I'm hoping for your sake someone will correct me or confirm this.
As for the calculation (you're making 100mls of juice) meaning that is the only number you need to worry about getting to the correct percentage. You're not working backwards you are adding until you reach 100% of 100mls.
It's just a personal preference at the end of the day, one that I prefer much more to.
Also here is the tool that I used for calculations. Does weight, volume, and drops.

Just wanted to say that I have edited this shit out of this so if it reads weird I'm sorry and that is why.
Hope this was helpful u/sloppyjoepa let me know if I missed something or you have anymore questions. I'm not an expert but I've had serval actual juice manufacturers like my juice so I feel like that is something.
I f you are on android this app has options for claptons etc https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool&hl=en_GB its probably based on steam-engine, I find it a bit easier to use.
That comes out to 0.577 on the calculator I use.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool Android app. I use this one for all my coils.
http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp Web site
Great kit to start with. Here's a nice build tutorial for the included rda deck. After you've grown tired of the stock coils, get yourself some 28ga kanthal and some cotton and try your hand at building.
You can also download an app for your phone that will help you with coil builds and ohms law and such. There are many out there. I use this one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
I am an absolute beginner, I have a VandyVape BSKR 1.5 RTA. I use 28ga kanthal and vapefly firebolt cotton because it makes wicking really easy, like lacing your shoes. I found this app very useful for calculating coil wraps and it has a bunch of other features https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
That's a great write-up. Thanks for taking the time to help a newbie! I just wanted to add that Vape Tool is an excellent Android app along the lines of steam engine. I use it frequently.
Yep it's called vape tool, the paid version is called vape tool pro. The pro version has a few extra features, my favorite is it will tell you how long the wire needs to be to make the coil so you can cut the wire to the lengths that you'll need for your build. Here's a link to it on the play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool&hl=en
Easy peasy. Regulated devices are very safe to build on. Use steam engine to help or get yourself an app like this if you're on android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
Get yourself some 28ga, 26ga and some 24ga kanthal. You'll want a variety and this should suffice.
I'd also recommend downloading an vape tool app for your phone. This will help you determine what builds will work for you. I use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
Usually my most flavorful and vapor producing builds are below .5 ohms
Also, try some twisted builds once you feel like you know what you're doing.
as long as you stay within the amp limit of your batteriers you are safe.
The Samsung 25rs can do 25 amps. but I rarely ever push to the max. I do 90 percent which is 22ishamps. as long as you keep your wattage below 72.5 (which is 25 amps on a .116) you will be fine. Download the Android app called "Vape Tool." It is amazing. Even has a coil calculator. You can imput the type of coil, gauge of wire and the wrap or ohms you are shooting for and it will tell you the ohms or number of wraps needed to get what you are looking for. I can hit my .25 ohms just about always. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool&hl=en) <---awesome app
Mods also have a max amp limit. (sort of) Chips can only handle and deliver so much. Many have a Max amperage. Most are about 30 amps. which means if you are pulling over 30 amps the chip can not handle it. Over time you will fire your chip even if the batteries can handle it. (Most batteries can not do over 30 amps anyway. ) I could not find what your mod can actually handle but my guess it is 30.
Battery Chart to check amps of many different type of batteries.

If you have an Android device, Vape Tool (Pro version is $2.99)
This one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool I'll check it out and see if I can get something out of it. I don't wrap my own coils anymore, I just buy them from CCC because they have all kanthal options (can't stand the taste of of nichrome, haven't messed with SS). The screenshots of the recipe portion look a little busy. I'll download the free one to check it out. If I like it I always support the developer by buying the ro version
I suggest getting a coil app . Primary difference between 2 and 3 core is obviously more surface area. More surface area equals more vapor and flavor. Fused claptons vs aliens in my experience is aliens have more juice pockets because of the wavy outer wrap. Your definitely going to want to master fused claptons before attempting aliens.
You can get by without an ohm meter, but they're convenient to have around.
Like many others, I started building coils back when the old 510 cartomisers were just poly filled tubes with nichrome wires.
I've made heaps of coils around drill bits, coil kits, knitting needles, even nails, screws and bolts.
If you're making a standard dual coil set up and you're using the same wire, same mandrel/jig/drill bit whatever, the resistance shouldn't very greatly between the two. Having said that, just make sure you use exactly the same number of winds, space them out the same, cut the legs at the same length etc.
Apps like this make it a lot easier these days too https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
Not like the old days when we had to figure it out on a spreadsheet lol
It's definitely worth a look! Lots of the "disposable" coils can be rebuilt if you take the time to search online or just tear one apart.
Building basic coils is really easy. You can get by with some wire of your choice, a drill bit and wire snips. A multimeter with resistance readout comes in handy, or you can buy little resistance testing devices with a 51 connection on top. Apps like this one make it a lot easier than it used to be https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
If you have an Android phone or tablet, you might want to try this - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
It's basically an easier steam engine and generally the wattage range it gives is a bit more realistic. It's still just a general guideline, but for your build it shows a range of 93.7-184 (that is for a 3.0 ID, it goes up to around 104 at 3.5 ID). The heat flux would still be a bit higher than I'd personally build for so if I built that, I'd probably drop it down a little too.
But it will always vary depending on the material, airflow in your specific atty and so on.
If the difference is too drastic it can indicate a problem and is worth a second look. Like if it said 100 watts and your barrel was too hot to touch at 50 watts something is probably not right. Otherwise I wouldn't sweat it too much.
If you're smart and have an android the app store has plenty of juice mixing apps that you can import all of your flavors and recipes. Mine even tells me how much a recipe is costing me and how much flavoring I have left after each batch. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
If your on android download this tool
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool&hl=en_GB
It is amazing.does juices, coils from normal wire to twisted, to claptons, fused claptons, alien claptons and more
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
Free app that lets you input your coil and will give wattage ranges.
http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp
Web based coil build tool.
Use these for best results.
I happen to use a smartphone app to help with these ratios to keep things accurate. I have come across good deals on amazon for nic mixtures but all their ratios have been different and I'm too lazy to do the math most of the time. Vape Tool is the best I've found, and it's mobile. It'll let you input full levels of what your nic base vg or pg % are and mixture target level is, as well as help find the "sweet spots" for new coils, batteries etc.
You kinda just get a feel for it as you try more builds.
But I use this app and it tells you at the bottom of the coil builder what the recommended wattage is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool&hl=en
thanks :D
i didnt grab a jig :/ i figured drill bits/screwdrivers would do the job. i hope i was right haha, if not, i shall have to get one! they seem very cheap anyway! everything else tool wise you mentioned i already own.
and steam engine looks good, i shall bookmark that for when i dont have my phone handy, i found an app called vape tool (play store link) which does the same.
thanks for the last one will definitely try to avoid that!!
Sorry guys for no description, but I posted it as Link so there was no place for it. I will upload free version with ads as you wish ;) Enjoy Free version https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
"Making his own juice" consists of mixing 4 ingredients -- nicotine solution, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerine, and whatever flavoring agent he wants. You can buy all four at Wizard Labs or some other similar vendor (i just use WL, this isn't an ad or anything).
There are apps for your phone(android and iphone) as well as computer, but you could just use a website for this part. If he wants, for instance, 15mg/ml of Nicotine (which is pretty high but you can "safely" go to 24mg/ml), and 25% of the flavor agent, you'd do 12.5 ml of each ingredient (pg, vg, nico, flavor) to give you 50ml of vape -- which should last a bit over a week for even a heavy smoker.
When I quit smoking and turned to vape, I was 2.5 to 3 packs a day -- and I wasn't even 22 years old yet.
When I started vaping, I spent a long time using 24mg. I'm now down to 15. I tried 13mg but ended up "nicking" really hard so decided to bump it up to 15mg/ml.
The only real issue I have with vaping is that you're inhaling an oil -- but really that seems to be the only danger I can find in it, short of nicotine overdose (and unless you literally dump a huge amount of concentrated nicotine on your bare skin, the most you'll likely get is a little nauseous).
That's not to discredit the dangers of nicotine -- it is poison, it can kill you in large enough doses.
But then, so can water.
Side note: if you're thinking of telling your dad to up his PG levels, make sure to let him know that some people are allergic to PG, and this causes some difficulty breathing as well as swollen lymph nodes (identified by a sharp pain in one or both sides of the neck). While it is not incredibly dangerous, it is uncomfortable, but the effects are generally very temporary and wear off as you stop vaping such high PG.
Sorry to hijack a little, I just know a bit about vaping. I've been mixing my own for over a year now (which, btw, only costs me about $30-40 every three months). I have some experience with the different mixture levels. If anyone has any more questions feel free to send me a private message -- I'm not expert but I'll try my damnedest to find good information for you.
edit: added app links
Hi friendly neighborhood Canadian vape shop employee! RDA's and installing coils on a regulated is super fun and easy! My best recommendation would be to consult the youtubes and perhaps the next time you go into your local shop ask them to walk you through installing coils and stuff like that there's also a really dope app out there called coil builder ( android here and for apple here) that is mainly free until you get into the fancier stuff (which even I do not use LOOL) , it does all the maths for you so you don't have to do it! If you have any questions feel free to ask at anytime (a really good guide right here click me! Super dope types of premade coils guide) if you need anymore resources you know where I'm at! Some good RDA's I've found that pair well with the drag are the DROP DEAD RDA anything goon RDA and I always recommend starting out with dual coil (as in the deck has enough to fit 2 coils) another pro-tip is make sure that your coils line up with your airflow and also to make sure that your coils have space inbetween and to turn down your wattage when installing thats where most people make mistakes and melt coils! how to clean your coils , how to rewick cotton, how to install coils! It may seem like a lot but in all honesty its an amazing experience and in the long run i find cheaper, less leaky and less fuss in the long run compared to tanks!
Vape tool is really good and the dev is very active.
Im using this app
Here's a link to that "Vape Tool" app

Like everyone else said steam engine. Also there is an app for Android called vape tool Here I use it along with steam engine.
I'm not sure about the app store but the play store has it
steam-engine
Edit Vape Tools on android phone is amazing too.
Vape Tools
I use one called Vape Tool https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
Vape tool is pretty good too.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
Enjoy free version ;) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
I can't agree with your opinion. I have spend about 2 years on this project. So whats wrong with selling it for 2$ ? Any way, here you have free version, i hope you will like it ;) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stasbar.vape_tool
On my Fuchai/Griffin I'm running a 7/8 wrap at 3mm on 24g Kanthal running at 50W coming in at .33 ohms right now and the flavor/vapor production are outstanding.
You can use a website like this and play with different builds. If you play with the heat flux on the far right after you set up your coils it will tell you the range of wattages. An app like this gives the same information but it shows the wattage range without any playing around.
