> Also, I would probably gag on this recipe after a two week cure.
First off I don't care who you are I don't scare and cower from any keyboard warriors.
What a great community. Let us insult some more people's work.
Significant to what??? Significant to Reddit or the Internet its self? Significant to the knowledge the Mods have about mixing these flavors? Significant to ....
Significant is a loose term. You can't be fair and make a rule based on the word significant when you never put what it should be significant to.
Of course who ever said anything on the internet or Reddit was fair.
Couple reasons I prefer mixing by weight.
Much more precise measurements. Those syringes are not accurate neither are the sides of a mixing flask. Well at least the ones that we will buy...
Also it is in my opinion it is way easier to scale up or down.
You also can just dump your ingredients in from the bottle instead of having to pull out the bottle out, take the top off, put the syringe in, try and take out the right amount put some back in take some back out.... I prefer the droper method personally much more precise.
Plus you dont have to keep buying syringes. (I know that isn't really even a thought for most normal people.)
As for varrying weight vg weighs the most. I haven't mixed in a long time but if I remember correctly each ML of vg us like 1.2g or something like that pg is almost a 1:1 weight ratio. I'm hoping for your sake someone will correct me or confirm this.
As for the calculation (you're making 100mls of juice) meaning that is the only number you need to worry about getting to the correct percentage. You're not working backwards you are adding until you reach 100% of 100mls.
It's just a personal preference at the end of the day, one that I prefer much more to.
Also here is the tool that I used for calculations. Does weight, volume, and drops.

Just wanted to say that I have edited this shit out of this so if it reads weird I'm sorry and that is why.
Hope this was helpful u/sloppyjoepa let me know if I missed something or you have anymore questions. I'm not an expert but I've had serval actual juice manufacturers like my juice so I feel like that is something.
As a noob, I thank you, this is interesting & encouraging.
I would note from research (mainly DIYorDIE) that every recipe will react differently to steeping, some will benefit hugely from steeping, some may actually get worse and be better as a SnV, and everything in between, but it is still important to:
I feel your formatting pain; you should try:
RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite) - it makes formatting a whole world easier. (Live preview, format controls, full editor and more).
So someone linked to vapingunderground forums down below about HICs selling recipes. So I cross referenced the recipes to here: https://gumroad.com/hic A lot of them seem to line up.. a lot of them.
Hey there, I would recommend looking into something like privacy.com . Its fast, free, and it's the best way to protect yourself when ordering things off of the internet, Especially when it comes to ecigs and stuff that could be considered paraphernalia
This is what I use from Amazon - they're $13 each shipped with Prime. I use two of them and ended up looking like this - that's close to 100 concentrates in the racks themselves (you could fit more if you have smaller bottles (10-15ml). I could probably use a third, since I now have one full row in front and a second starting...
You want a scale that can read down to .01 grams. Check out the American Weigh Labs LB-501, it's on amazon as well, runs about $24.
https://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-Scales-LB-501-Digital/dp/B005UGBG20
Decant your vg (plus pg and nicotine) into 100ml+ HDPE bottles with twist-top caps (other bottle suppliers offer similar products - on Amazon they're often tagged as tattoo ink bottles) and 'squeeze' the thicker liquid straight into your juice bottle without using a funnel.

Check if you've gone though elementvapes.com - which is a major site, as not only did they get hit, but the malware was installed in their system for about a year too.
Privacy.com is the way to go or setup a paypal account and add your credit card number there.
Also be safe on your side too. Here are some extensions that should be mandatory:
That should be a good start. For advanced users Policy Control & Noscript.
Firefox isn't what it used to be which was the only browser back in the day to use. If you must, go with their ESR version but look into Waterfox or Pale Moon which both support the old add-ons before they fucked everything up.
Speaking about the elephant in the room, but .5% will do. Dump Windows and install Linux and while at it get a capable dd-wrt/tomato router. If you have an Asus I'd just go with Merlin, which you can get the Asus AU68 T-Mobile version for $40 brand new instead of the regular $150+ and do some trickery.... That way you can load your VPN on the router side which is what you want and then use Open VPN, DNS over TLS, DNSSEC... Ok, I'll stop.
To /u/MarinheiroTX, thank you for this app. I'll give it a go and see how I like it.
To anyone bitching about this, and your precious two dollars, go install Google Opinion Rewards and then Google will pay you for your whiny opinions.
You can then use that money to pay for this developer's time and save your precious two dollars.

Think cookery. Would you boycott a local pizzeria because they make a chicago deep dish pizza but they are not from Chicago? (local example lol)
Tough to see but I highly doubt Wayne cares beyond the wish for a mention. I think recipes should be considered creative commons license with attribution. CC4
The opinions that matter are the same ones that know where this stuff comes from. Like literature everything that comes of this hobby is in fact a story that has been told before. The only sad thing is the lack of creativity. If more people took the chance and put their hard work out there to be used and criticised: there would be tons more great recipes. The collective hive mind and all, mixed with the sheer numbers of us working is what I would love to see.
I don't know the answer to your question but I have a workaround:
https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/debit-card
Get your PP account on a business status and get you a debit card. It's a Mastercard. Fucking great: people give you PP moniez and then you go spend it on your MC. You can even get another one in someone else's name for SO or business associate or whatever.
Just a heads up. It might just be my browser, but when I select a mg level, it does not show in the menu, but it IS selected, as I can see it in the cart after adding it. If that doesn't make sense here's a screenshot.
Honestly, at a concentration of 0.6% I'd just tuck it away in a dark, cool place. There's no need to freeze it, but you certainly can. You can purchase amber glass bottles with poly caps on Amazon if you want to go that route. But again, at 0.6% there is very little nicotine in that liquid and it will remain stable for quite some time.
As others have said, your best bet (if you can afford it) is to purchase 1-2 litres of 10% nicotine (100mg/ml). That will likely last you several years, maybe even 10 or more. You'll see huge savings.
Nicotine river has everything you need. I recommend not getting a starter kit. It will limit your options and you'll very likely spend more than necessary.
Also buy a scale on Amazon like this
https://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-Scales-LB-501-Digital/dp/B005UGBG20
Measures down to .01g and has a plug so it won't shut off during mixing
Find a couple highly rated recipes or anything that looks good to you, and buy the stuff for those recipes
Use alltheflavors.com for reference
New mixers thread for questions like this and anything else that may come up.. good luck :)
It’s been a while since I’ve looked at what all is in there kit, but last I remember it wasn’t horrible. You can get that in and start mixing right away. But you can probably put together your own little kit and end up with a better deal. If you get the scale, you’re not going to need all the stuff they include to mix by volume, and you’re probably going to want more bottles anyways, so there’s another order there. I would just fill up the cart with some VG, PG, nic, and the flavors you want, and then head over to Amazon for the scale.
American Weigh Scales LB-501 Digital Kitchen Scale https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005UGBG20/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Jb9oBbQ78DTM5
Then you could search around for a good deal on bottles, but I’ve ordered from these guys a few times and it wasn’t a bad deal.
Edit: by the way I voice texted all this, so might be a little fucked up
nic river has a pretty great starter kit, but since you seem like you are already mixing I would suggest looking into mixing by weight rather than mixing by volume.
the lb-501 is probably the most popular. good capacity for large batches, but still accurate down to .01 g's. You can mix right in the bottle and cut out a lot of other steps.
You beat me to this comment. 100% agree. I would love to start a Lenola Cream cloning project, but I really like giving them my money too. Tough call.
Edit: Here's some banana chemical info from a decent (if a little aged) book on flavors. If you refer to the Deeper DIY library, there's a lot more to be found.
I don't know who LiquidBarn uses to mix their flavors, but TPA flavors of the same name do contain creamy aroma molecules:
As you can see, all 3 flavors contain Ethyl Butyrate which can be considered a creamy aroma molecule. All of the *lactone aroma molecules can be creamy or milky. The vanillin is a vanilla flavor molecule which can also make something creamy. Maltol and Ethyl Maltol are usually light sweeteners but in volume can create a marshmallow/cotton candy creaminess.
When you mix flavors, you are multiplying those aroma molecules to the point that you may break down the fruit flavor because of the overwhelming creaminess multiplied.
This is not unexpected nor unheard of.
Again, I listed TPA's aroma molecule components, but LiquidBarn may use similar formulae.
Without getting into or commenting on the issues in the OP, whenever these type of issues come up I always think about the Gnu Public License (GPL) - https://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html and Creative Commons - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/.
Perhaps those that are concerned with attribution and distribution should adopt posting recipes under the GPL or CC licenses. Something like CC BY-NC-SA, etc. To my mind anyone posting a recipe on a public forum (Reddit, ECF, ELR, etc) is effectively publishing it under CC0 terms, or something similar to the GPL without the attribution clause.
Concerning the GPL, yeah recipes aren't source code but they're not really all that much different if you think about it.
I’ve been using the Privacy app for the last 6 months and just creating a burner card number for every order. Been working out great for me. Someone just recently tried to use one of those card numbers to buy some sick Nike gear for like $350, but since the card was dead after one use, they got shut right the fuck down.
Of course, sites should be secure enough to not have to use something like that. But it’s a nice safety net.
And ECX has a few things that you can only get there, but everything else I try to get from Bull City, Nicotine River, DIY Vapor Supply, and Vapers Tek.
Done and done.
American Weigh Scales ACP-200 Digital Pocket Scale, 200 by 0.01 G
If you're mixing for sale, buy a higher capacity/better scale.
I found it difficult to cut through the hardware 'love posts' as well when buying one.
The above scale works perfectly for me and I have run multiple tests on it to compare to my volumetric measurements. It works, it is a joy to use, it is accurate to 0.01 gram, it is cheap. Test with nickels (5g) before dicking around with calibration, mine was dead on.
Grab a bag of 50 10ml bottles (~$10) from Amazon and go hog wild. Then come back and give us some tips and recipes.
Get mixing.
I'm new to mixing too and have 3 kids so that was a big concern for me. What I did is got a nice cheap toolbox on Amazon that has a spot for a lock and put it locked up in my closet.
Cool thing about it is that it has 2 compartments on top where it perfectly stores 4ml flavors, and a removable tray that I put my syringes in. Luggage lock seems to be the best fit for the lock part as most pad locks are pretty thick.
I only mix when the kids are out of the house or asleep and do the nicotine step first and immediately put the nic in the toolbox.
With all of these measures in place I feel much better about it.
You may want to buy a box of gloves from Amazon instead. 10 pairs is literally 20 gloves. You will definitely need more if you plan on mixing more than 10-15... Uh... mixes.
I'll update this with a link to the gloves I bought shortly.
Also if you're going to use menthol crystals maybe look into PG for dilution.
Also, for bottles, I highly doubt 15 10ml bottles will do you justice. I'll also update with a link to the bottles I got off Amazon last time. They came with a funnel. General rule is but twice as much as you think you'll need.
Bottles: 50 ldpe - I now wish I had bought 100 instead. They come in a large sealed bag. Lids and bottle tops in separate bags. Funnel is in the caps bag. They're child proof and I haven't had a problem with them breaking or anything.
Gloves - can't get much simpler than gloves. I got mine in black because I like the color. I think 90% of my wardrobe is black. Only issue I've noticed with them is it's sometimes difficult to tell where on the gloves the spillage is but that's entirely due to nicotine being colorless and my color of choice. Comes with 100.
On size of the gloves: I have somewhat smaller hands than the average dude, or at least between my friends. If you have big hands large will not cut it. Xl->XXL would work better.
Also I'd definitely consider getting an RDA for testing. It will taste different between a tank and RDA. Generally I find that my tanks mute the flavor a bit. Anything with side airflow is what you're looking for.
I am looking to start making my own juice, and already have a digital scale. The amazon page says its range is from 1-5750 grams, will this be a problem? I have heard that you should get a scale that can read down to .1 grams
Here is the scale for reference: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003MSZBSI/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
In my excitement to make my first mix, I made a small error.... My order arrived from Nic River today, I ripped everything open, opened ejuice me up, and began mixing. Halfway through, I went to reach for the PG and realized, I ordered 2 VGs and no PG! CRAP!
The original recipe calls for a 30/70 PG/VG mix. As my flavors are PG, a good portion of the PG is covered by those, I played with the calculator a bit and found that if I go to a 17/83 PG/VG mix, I can pretty much eliminate the use of PG because the calc shows I will need .42 grams to hit the 17/83 mix.
Recipe:
TPA Kentucky Bourbon 2%
FA Kiwi 4%
TPA Toasted Marshmallow 2%
I found this PG on Amazon, anything I should be weary of? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005PZBRUC/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A141PUQOHOVW2V&psc=1
Long explanation short, can I just fill the rest of my bottle with VG and it not be horrible??
To add to what u/juthinc said:
Don't get a kit.
LB-501is pretty much the standard for scales. 500g max. .01 increments, and no auto shutoff.
I use essential depot for vg and pg, but it's more or less the same thing you'll get from diy shops if that makes you more comfortable. As long as you get the kosher shit you'll be good.
I find chemnovatic nicotine to be the highest quality, I get mine from vaperstek. I buy the 120ml 100mg nic in PG, then divide it into 4 amber glass dropper bottles when I open it. Keep it in the freezer.
For bottles you can search Amazon for 30ml / 1 oz ldpe dropper bottles for a smaller quantity, I buy in bulk from heartland vapes.
I recently published an Android app which you might find interesting. It has recipe creation, categorization, a flavor wizard to help you mix starting from the flavors you have at hand, and a steeping timer with notifications once your ejuice is ready. There is also a preinstalled flavor database and you can clone your recipes. For now it does not have social capabilities, depending on how many people are interested I might add it in a future version. I tried to focus on a simple user interface, I also don't like confusing apps and I think this one is simple and clean enough while still being pretty powerful. Anyway, enough said, give it a try if you want :)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frigoni.ejuicemasterdiy
here you go.. its custom so u will have to change quite a few things. but it should help. (i uploaded to some website ... if u want me to upload somewhere else i can do that )
Haven't tried it, but adding cyclotene (maple lactone, corylone, etc) to caramel flavors brings out a metallic/mineral top note that reminds me of "salty".
I've even shared my cyclotene-caramel with others and the immediately say "sea salt caramel" even though I don't tell them what flavors I am aiming for.
But cyclotene won't bring salty out in most flavors, IMHO.
Oddly enough, cyclotene supposedly MASKS salty flavors, too. link
99% of flavors in 10ml and 30ml amount come with dropper tops so you won't need to use pipettes or syringes. for your pg/vg go to walmart and get these sauce bottles for $1. the only thing i use a syringe for is my nic. after i finish mixing it's the only thing i have to clean.
Get some of these for pg and vg. Makes it much easier on bigger batches. Other than that I think you should be good to go!

Edit: Also something bigger to mix in on big batches like beakers or mason jar. Something like that.
1-4, A lot of people will recommend mixing by weight. I do, it seems convenient to me.... certain elements seem more conveienent mixing by volume...but honestly weight to me just seems looooooooooooooads quicker/easier/less cleanup/cheaper over time.
Something to consider.
For #5 I would possibly go to a different B&M store.... 75watts is more than enough, honestly 40Watts would be on the low end but still more than enough if you build conservatively. Maybe the guy really wanted to make a big sale? 50watts I feel is around the sweet spot for most average vaping.
EDIT: Random, but heres a great mod at a good price, it's a very simple mod, totally nonadjustable, but for that I like it. It always outputs the same wattage or voltage, not sure which, about ~~50 or 60 watts~~ 100 watts I guess?. One of my personal favorites. What you build for it is what you get out of it. And it has all the typical safeties built in plus a light that shows you the current battery status. And amazing battery life.
Yes, apple cider vinegar.
The pH e-liquid debate is long, drawn out, and after 5 years there is no specific results that people can agree on.
I use pH test strips. I don't aim for a specific final pH because different flavors response differently to acidity (as does nicotine, which is more powerful at a 5.5 pH than an 8.5 pH).
Certain flavors are lost when the pH is too basic (above 7). Blueberry is one such flavor that really pops with a touch of ACV. Some brands, like my beloved OpenSourceVapors, offers saline as an additive. Saline's natural pH is around 5.5, so it can take a basic pH liquid and make it more acidic (balanced).
Even something like Ethyl Maltol has different adsorption properties based on the solution's pH.
As always, taste is subjective.
Pretty sure the problem isn't the cost of syringes, it's the manpower and cost of distribution.
They don't only just offer free needles at places like that. Some programs will go out and find addicts/homeless and are very proactive. That's the expensive part - just getting the word out, getting them out to the public. The syringes themselves can cost 1 cent to 5 cents each.
I mean, of course it seems a little shady, but if you even just donated one buck after getting free needles, you've more than covered the expense. Better yet, get the free syringes then go out and help one weekend.

It's completely safe, if you go to their website you can see it's USP. I use to order it in larger quantities but found a better source. The problem is it's actually really expensive for what you get. Use the search bar and you'll find plenty of discussion on this and other VG options.
Nicotine quality varies so sick with a reputable source like nude nicotine. Pg and vg are about the same but I'd still get it from a reputable source. This seems to be the cheapest and is good quality.

Ha! I just post on here a lot but thanks for the vote of confidence.
Mustard Milk is about 85% of the way there straight after mixing (the 2-ingredient version). The cream aspect will deepen a bit after about a week. The 4-ingredient version needs maybe 5 days or so for the diketone-free cream to settle. Both versions are good as a shake-and-vape, to me.
I hate waiting for a juice to be "ready" too, so I reject most things I create if they need more than a week...it's an indication I need to go back to the drawing board.
My favorite recipes? The ones I've posted here (either as independent threads or as comment replies) tend to be things I repeatedly mix. You can check out /u/Botboy141 for some great recipes, and recently /u/Enyawreklaw has been posting some great stuff – his palate and mixing style closely matches my own.
Regarding Flavors Express/Tobacco Express/eCigExpress there's not much to it. I spoke with sales at ecigexpress several times about using their flavorings in commercial recipes. I need a Certificate of Analysis on flavorings in order to bring them into a gCMP/ISO mixing room. Keep in mind a COA isn't an ingredient list or chemical analysis or anything that would remotely jeopardize the understandably secret nature of their formulations – it simply shows they keep records on the products they produce, have some level of traceability, and operate their facility in a clean, documented fashion. They were totally unwilling to provide any information and openly hostile toward me. I was told Flavors Express and Tobacco Express come from an unknown manufacturer in China, but they would not disclose who it is (though they're easy to find on alibaba) or assist with getting a COA. ecigexpress also refused to provide any documentation on their rebottling operation. The sales rep hung up on me on my last call. I won't tolerate that in business, you know?
> Sucralose in solution at 1% or less has a change of boiling and burning points.
True. It has to be, at least partially, because you have the sweet taste. ;-)
I've seen some reports here on reddit stating sucralose to clog up the coils. If there is any demand I will try to provide links.
Here is an update on the second link in the OP, so everyone will be able to read the paper:
In the conclusion part, the authors advice to be cautious if sucralose is used together with glycerol containing stuff because there is a risk of chloropropanol formation.
But vapers don't use glycerol containing stuff, but pure glycerol in many cases.
This might also be true for propylene glycol. The mechanism is as follows: Hydrogen chloride (spirit of salts) is eliminated from sucralose and reacts with the alcohol (glycerol) leading to water elimination and subsequent chlorination.
http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/e-liquid-recipes.com.html
Always consult this before posting about this issue. Lars doesn't own Reddit. He won't know you are talking to him as if you are posting to his Facebook wall.
I haven't tried it, but I bet a burette would be very handy--especially for large commercial operations where consistency is critical.
If you want to play around with one, it looks like AS&S has a good deal on the parts you'll need.
This looks like it. Hard, almost styrofoam, easily molded and cut. I drilled the holes with a 1 inch paddle bit, almost all the way through.
3%.
But consult HIC's Notes on FlavourArt Flavors before you start.
(While the MamaJ's website is closed (until early January 2016), you can obtain a [free, as in HIC will probably email you stuff about buying his recipes later] pdf by posting your email address here; the site will then send you a download link.)
I've been to a lot of 'hippie' festivals and I love chai tea. I've got a few flavors that apply here, but I'm a beginning mixer and have yet to mix or create a chai recipe.
Like you folks I'm looking forward to this episode. And to Emily who likes her chai in the fall I suggest a chai tea outside in the evening when a spring or summer day cools down ;-)
Not sure if this is the right place to post, but for my personal use I have created a plain text file with most of the timestamps for the Noted videos on YouTube. In case anybody is interested I've uploaded it here: https://rentry.co/pmmmt
Use CTRL+F to find flavors, for example: "fa carda" will jump to the next available timestamp for FA Cardamom. Feel free to share this link or use it elsewhere. I will try and update the list regularly, though not as quick as the folks under the YouTube vids.
This is my first Reddit post, so why not finish by sending my rich, sumptuous unending gratitude to the Noted crew and their guests. And also a thick, decadent thanks to the timestamp posters under the youtube vids.
So for everyone interested, I have pretty much wrapped up what I would be using. It is published here:

Feel free to grab a copy and fork it however you like.
Sheet 1 = Master calculator, includes bottle sizes 30ml, 15ml, and 10ml.
Sheet 2 = Worksheet for calculating premix flavor bases, and the calculations for adding your base to the premix flavors.
Sheet 3 = Cost analysis. Break down of nicotine base, glycerin and up to 5 flavors. Helps you decide what to buy, how much to spend, breaks down cost per bottle sizes, and allows you to maintain optimal money savings.
Sheet 4 = Blank sheet for your favorite recipes.
PS: This is what I use, since I vape max VG, there is no PG/VG ratio calculation.
While the look and workflow are fairly basic uses of Materialize, I thought there should be a calc with a little eye candy. Might throw in a little mo.js stuff just because.
^This.. I mix five 30ml bottles when I'm down to five bottles left. That way I always have some sitting and some ready to go. If you aren't into printing out labels (like me) then you can easily order a bunch of bottles with multi colored caps like this. Use different caps for different batches or different flavors.
What Like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MEHJCQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_6JNKQYATGV9BG4NES7XP?
Would putting the bottle in a food saver bag work? Or is it the oxygen between the cap and the liquid I should be worried about?
Find a product made for keep O2 out of wine, paint cans, even some expensive ass nail polish. I have even read for preserving jam. I use one called bloxygen.
https://www.amazon.com/Bloxygen-Preserver-Spray-Store-pack/dp/B0002088O8
Be warned you will think the can is empty cause so light. It isn't. I have used it about 30 uses so far and not empty.
I use these bottles for transferring. Whatever you use, make sure they have a polycone cap and are dark to avoid light damage. You didn't mention your concentration, but you should be sure to avoid skin contact. I use 240mg concentrate. It's dangerous and I transfer with gloves, tyvec suit and a respirator. Fill them real close to the top, but leave a 1/4" or so to avoid expansion breakage. Good luck!
I have no idea on the names. I got both on craigslist. $50 for the desk and $30 for the stand. Here are some Amazon links to very similar items with good prices.

I think these are the same, they have multiple size options too listed separately.
I ended up purchasing a Thermaltek USB fan and poped that in a project box and bought the stir bar on amazon with some glass beakers. Here's a guide that I kinda followed. I cringed because this guys a dummy.
I can't speak to the quality of this product whatsoever, but it's got quite a good bit of good reviews on Amazon, and matches the bill exactly.
There's a product specifically for that, it's called Bloxygen. Here's an Amazon link, but it's available all over (it's ostensibly for preserving cans of expensive wood finish, but it's just compressed argon.) You can also find the same type of stuff at some liquor stores, usually called "Wine Preserver" or something like that. Same thing, just compressed argon in a can.
I came here to tell you to order VG from Amazon. I got a gallon for about $13, but it appears that the price almost doubled (I was going to provide link).
Does anyone know why VG price increased so much?
Edit: Link with new, almost doubled price. Was $13 _ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PSGWHIO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
When mixing everything together. What do you all do to pour and measure the vegetable glycerin? I bought this from Amazon and it's thick. Should I keep it at room temperature? Should I heat it a tad to decrease the viscosity? I couldn't use a syringe on it nor could I use a funnel to pour it into my flask.
Just to add regarding mixing by weight, good choice btw - I mixed maybe a few bottles by volume before I got on Amazon and ordered a scale.
I think most would highly recommend the AWS-501 shipped Prime for $26.79, I've got one and it's great. But when I wanted a scale the next day and had to get one, Amazon didn't have the AWS-501 with Prime, so I picked up this one for under $12. I've put calibration weights on it and it's within .02g like the AWS-501. The only thing is it's battery only, but you can just tap on it to prevent auto-shutoff (never had to though, get your stuff in order then start mixing)
TL;DR. If you're looking to save a few bucks, the cheaper scale does work well. And it was a little tougher to find good info on other scales, since the AWS-501 is so popular.
What brand of PG and VG is the best to buy? I bought Essential Depot brand from Amazon, but it clogs up my cotton within 2 to 3 days. I have bought e-juice from companies before where they lasted almost a week before clogging up my cotton.
How you deal with strong flavors like vanilla bean ice cream? I tried fizz's mustard milk, and its okay, but the vbic gunks up the coil so hard that I can still taste it 2 days after. Other flavors I have to take care of?
Do flavors unsteep? I still have a few bottles from my very first batch, with HiLiq flavors, and while the first week was perfect, it is now waaay to strong, tastes like medicine and hurts the throat. Will it be better one day or am I good to throw it away?
Are there any differences in VG? I run out of VG very fast, and there arent many vape shops in Japan that offer diy, especially VG. On amazon you can find many vg that is aimed "at beauty purposes", like this one. Are they all basically the same, as long as it says vegetable glycerin?
What produces vapor, other than VG/PG ratio? I make all my juices 70/30, but for example fizz's nana cream produces absurd amounts of vapor compared to other mixes, with the same ratio
That is a good start point and about how much I spent originally. The only difference in those two brackets is scale vs syringes. Both are fine
If you already have a scale you're good to go. I use the AWS-201 scale. I got it for ~10$ off ebay or amazon years ago and it works fine.
My bad on not dropping my recipes yet. crazy couple weeks
I haven't been mixing that long and I'm not really happy with anything I make. I am wondering now if its the VG I got, it has a distinct rubber after taste to me. I got it off amazon here : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004C7MTLA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Do you think its the VG or am I just doing it wrong? Note : I usually mix at high vg, normally 80/20 VG/PG.
Edit : My PG came from amazon as well but I tried vaping 100% VG and its definitely a taste in the VG
If you have Amazon Prime free shipping, and maybe even if you don't, Essential Depot is a great source of PG and VG.
As /u/EdibleMalfuntion already pointed out, Carolina Xtracts is the place for top-quality nicotine base with no worries about peppery taste or anything like that, but if it is too pricey for you, look at other sources. VapersTek is one that comes to mind as being highly recommended. Nude Nicotine used to be, and still is by some, but they have had some pretty serious customer service and quality control issues lately.
You can go to Amazon and buy from Essential Depot. Their VG is pretty good quality and you can get a gallon for around $28 and a quart for around $13 with shipping included. Sometimes these guys sell "Cube boxes" which will include 4 x gallon sizes of VG or PG for around $60-80 depending on the sale price. But you can find them on Amazon here https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PSGWHIO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
One like this should get you where you want to be: Amazon link Just sort by lowest price, they're all pretty interchangeable.
Shot of it in action: https://imgur.com/g0Its81 Although the collection is definitely expanded across two of these now and I'm about to put up my 3rd one. 120mls fit fine if you put them on the top row.
thanks. the $11 Amazon price was still cheaper than what I saw on ebay. I'm a prime member so I get free shipping. Amazon got me with an impulse buy too. A item "suggested for me" was some sort of two piece make up organizer. I think it would be perfect to hold all my building gear and wire etc. The top piece I'll use for individual mixes - I'll look up what I need for the juices I'm going to mix that day and put them in the top rack and bring them up into the house. I have little kids in the house so I keep all my vape related stuff in the garage - it's an attached garage so I don't have to go outside for anything. I'm regulated to vaping in the garage as well. here's the item: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BCOFYF8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I know what you mean about the tough plastic bottles you can't squeeze - vape wild sells their juices in those bottles - they suck. you can break your fingers trying to squeeze out juice.
Hm.. I wouldn't recommend them. When I first got into DIY a few months ago. I bought their large starter pack that contained the bases a few concentrates and syringes etc. Also purchased a very dark coloured nic from them.
Nothing wrong with their product but you could find better quality and cheaper elsewhere.
Kind of regret my purchase with them as I no longer touch any of it.
Here i'll list where I source my DIY stuff.
I also moved onto scales as cleaning syringes was just a pain. I found mine on Amazon for £8.
Also just purchased a mixer for £6.50 last week. Haven't' tested it yet but have read great reviews and perfect size for mixing liquid. No more shaking! =D
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Home-Garden/Norpro-Cordless-Mini-Mixer-White/B000E39LYO
while both of those should do just fine, you really dont have to have something that expensive. amazon has a cheap one that is pretty much the diy standard around here. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UGBG20/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use the calculator on http://e-liquid-recipes.com. It a good website with lots of recipes. Also you should invest in a scale of you don't already have one. Mixing by weight is pretty much fool proof. I bought some cheap-o scale from Amazon and its been working fine for the last year or so.
I have Prime too, and also buy on Amazon from 510 Central. But I hate those messy twist-top caps.
Wanted to drop back in to thank you for this tip.
I too am short of space, and also have a cat so the firmly sealed shotgun shell tubs looked ideal.
I bought a tub, and the fit is absolutely spot on. I can turn it upside down and no bottles move. Its easy to access when needed, and secure when not. Bang on, good show, thanks again!
The kit looks ok, but really it would be better to get everything separately. There are things in there that you won't need if you're going to mix by weight (which you should, it's objectively the best way to mix).
The syringes are going to be largely useless, as most flavours and bottles will have droppers on them. The PG/VG bottles are small, I usually buy a litre of each and that lasts me a good while. A good thing to do with PG/VG is buy sauce bottles and decant into those for dispensing. The one I linked comes with a mini funnel which can come in handy.
You'll probably end up making three orders; scale/sauce bottles/bottles for finished product from amazon, a flavour/VG/PG order from bullcityflavours or similar and a nic order from one of the vendors in the sidebar.
I'm assuming you're from the U.S. if not, let me know and I can help you find a good vendor for each of your supplies.
Friend, just get this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HCKQG7G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's .01g accurate and the timeout can be turned off. It's great. Don't buy it on fasttech, get it on Amazon. People seem to have issues with the fasttech ones according to my research before buying it.
I got this yesterday actually for the 3rd time when I'm in a pinch as I couldn't wait for the labor day sales: https://www.amazon.com/Glycerin-Vegetable-USP-Highest-Available-1-Element/dp/B00H4BZM9M - HQ stuff and seems exactly the same as all the vapor suppliers, however Amazon does have some bad VG/PG so you have to be careful.
This is what I've been using for a few years Nature's Oil USP Kosher Vegetable Glycerin Gallon - 10 lbs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WUPUYCC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_8P8GBbXX7YQN5
You can also buy it directly from their website but Amazon's 2 day shipping makes Amazon a better deal.
Hey I just found this flavor Cucumber Mint Natural browsing OOO flavors on amazon :) looks like it may be worthy of your XinXian, if you're ever so inclined.
Edit: it's cheaper @ DIYVS
Get puff organic cotton pads off of Amazon. They're the same price as the fasttech ones, but won't take 1+ weeks to get to you. The bag I bought has lasted over 2 years, and I'm only halfway through it.
https://www.amazon.com/ORGANIC-Cotton-Makeup-Puff-Medium/dp/B000TCD51A
Edit: If there is a Sally's near you, their Cellucotton rayon is really good too.
stop calling about a lost key and start calling about a broken lock. at least that way you get your flavors.
you want an LB-501, $30 on amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-Scales-LB-501-Digital/dp/B005UGBG20
it's kind of the go-to scale around here.
also, you want some smaller bottles. a scale isn't going to fix your large bottle-small syringe issue. you'll still use syringes to mix, you just do it on the scale for precision, so you don't need to try to read the lil 'ML' markers on the syringes.
I bought a 3" funnel and some 120ml bottles. i pour my pg and vg into their own 120's using the funnel, and then fill syringes from the 120s for mixing. get a nice lil 60ml brown Boston round bottle for your nicotine, keeps the sun out.
edit: here https://imgur.com/a/1JdbaAn my setup
do you do Prime? I just order mine from amazon... this is what i bought last:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QWX3R1Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
$0.33 each.
granted, thats for 20, there are vendors selling in larger bulk quantites, and every size from 5ml up to 100ml... so your choice will affect the price.
I have looked and looked and since I am prime member, its easy to just trust that even if i could source them cheaper, its one less place with my CC info on file to be hacked and stolen and taken advantage of. yeah, that could happen with amazon too, but my wife is still going to shop there, so I am just trying to limit my exposure. even tho "vaping" products are prohibited, there is an amazing variety of things you can still buy on amazon. You could built and entire OKR-T/10 mod with parts just from amazon! 510 connector and all.. crazy..
I use this app for android, sometimes you have to add your own concentrates but it's very helpful and you can search other people's mixes.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ugarsa.eliquidrecipes
Not claiming it's the best but I just published one, it also keeps track of what you mixed and you get a notification when your eliquid is done steeping.. here's the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.frigoni.ejuicemasterdiy
Oops - I stand corrected - you're right.
Is this where I'm supposed to insert the obligatory link to the American Weigh Scales LB-501? grin
Something like this should do the trick.
Edit: Here's a video showing it's use : https://youtu.be/_SX1QsQPzyE?t=85
My eJuice Lab seems to be well reviewed, and the developer is a regular here on this subreddit.
This post by him is currently on the front page of the sub...
the one thing i saw missing from my favorite app is the ability to tweak your nic VG & PG ratio. IE: you can only pick 100% PG or 100% VG.
Sadly, i use 50/50 so i have to math, every time.
Also, if there were a possibility to link to ELR (recipes, stash, etc) that would be awesome too
My go to mixing app, upgraded for 2$ in a heart beat I just look at my phone for weights and set it right next to me as I mix. (There's a free version as well)

i bought that once from a store and it was a memory i will replay during tough times. i dont even know if that's even the good stuff. but there it is.
FW extreme ice was an extreme disappointment. Im not even into cold and i kept dialing it up slowly until i hit 3% and lost my patience.
Lastly, Crunch Berries is the shit.
probably the scale. I don't make over 30ml either. I have a scale that reads to the thousandths (0.001g resolution) and does up to 50g. got it for $18
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09F6HH9TH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it's $22 now
You may want to read the answers to the questions and some of the reviews. It claims to be organic but it's not certified organic. It also doesn't carry USP or it's European equivalent on it's label anywhere that I can see.
I don't think the stuff you bought is vapable.

from China I believe but these are the closest I've tried to the old unicorn bottles LightningVapes (now WireOptim) used to sell. you may have to try a few caps to get a good seal because the tolerances arent great.

these appear the same and ship from the US but I have no experience with this seller
Hi folks,
I mix and like simple flavors (mostly lemonade, apple and fruit flavor with a small amount of sucralose ) at 4mg using a 500 ML bottle of 100mg/ml vg freebase nicotine that I down mix to 250ml of 24mg pg (with the vg from the nice base) nicotine base. That home made base is again down mixed to 120 ml of 4mg e-liquid. I also have the needed scale, graduated cylinders , pipettes for transfer.
However a recent life change means I wont be able to use heavier mods while out and wont have time to vape a pod mod at 4mg anymore.
So I wanted to try home mixed nic salt. But I can not find out how to convert the freebase nic base to nic salt base. I have a sensitive scale, and a set of really small measuring spoons ( Tiny spoons amazon link) .
I know you can use any salt but what salt ? how much of it in proportion to the whole?
Instead of graduated cylinders and magnetic mixers pick up an AWS LB-501 when you get a chance (thats the amazon link its $50usd on there now but I got mine for $35 shipped, it's on sale regularly). And get some 8oz hdpe (or PET) bottles if you like to mix big batches. Once you mix by weight you never go back, so much simpler.
The electric mixer probably helps a tiny bit, but honestly nothing beats old father time for steeping. And I personally don't think any of that stuff makes enough of a difference to be worth the hassle. Just mix in the bottle, shake the shit out of it every time you use it, good to go. Don't overthink it, it's simple ingredients :)
Hi,
I recently started mixing, found a whole bunch of recipes I wanted to try that sounded good and may have gone a little crazy on bullcity since each recipe seemed to use a different cream and/or vanilla and I chose a wide swath of different types to see what I liked the best. I now have like 100 10ml bottles of flavoring and I'm struggling to figure out how to best store them. I got this on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B095X914ZZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 but even that's too small to hold all of them and have the bottle still visible. I put them in alphabetical order so I can kind of guess where a bottle is if it's behind another bottle, but still slightly inconvenient.
SO, long story long, what's everyone's storage method? A bunch of spice racks? Nail polish display?
