I'm looking for a game with a lot of upgrades, sidegrades and build types. I love customisation like that, but it always seems to be gated behind some sort of nickle and diming.
Something like Walking War Robots would be nice if it didn't gate everything behind timers and premium currency. Is there something like that? (I don't care about it being free or not. I'd rather pay up front for a really good game).
It's been a while since I played this but from my experience, War Robots was pretty good. 6v6 arena battles, a nice variety of robots and weapons to choose from. Ads are optional and offer basic lootboxes. Matchmaking can get a bit unbalanced at times (working for and against you), but for the most part, it's good dumb fun.
As for single-player stuff, maybe try Destroy Gunners. I've never played the full game myself (this is just a demo/trial), but it's like a decent attempt at an Armored-Core-like game on mobile.
But there are many 3D games that seem to do at least as much. I enjoy this game, where you're moving around a 3D world shooting other players in real-time (not just polling once every many seconds like pokemon seems to). I'm pretty sure Pokemon manages to use more battery even when I'm just walking around and not even trying to catch a pokemon.

Try playing Walking War Robots
Its a mech battle pvp game
I'm interested too.
My take: Diablo web based: https://d07riv.github.io/diabloweb/ You can play the demo or provide your copy of the game.
War robot: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pixonic.wwr
Quake 1, 2 and 3: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opentouchgaming.quadtouch however recent changes to Dex make the mouse not work properly anymore. So you are still in android 9 it should work. Android 10 not so. There's a Doom version too.
DOSbox games in windows can be acceptable. I found more success with Qemu for mouse accuracy, like Mech Commander.
The problem I'm facing is that I cannot find a browser that has mouse capture / pointer lock otherwise there would be plenty of games on the web with mouse and keyboard.
Yep, a few swimming buddies of mine who were all into engineering and stuff as well all played in high school regularly. I am embarrassingly proud of my collection of painted-in-fine-detail die-cast tabletop pieces, and I still have every paper map and rules book I ever bought (boxed up, though). I've played every Mechwarrior and Battletech PC games since Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries as well. Even though I love the 1st-person mech sims and still jump into Mechwarrior Online now when I have time, my favorite Battletech game was Mech Commander 2 though - it just so well captured the tabletop game into a fun PC RTS.
Currently, I play the hell out of War Robots on Android, it's pretty damn fun and the graphics are great.
Does this link work? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pixonic.wwr

Give Walking War Robots a try. It's available for both Android and iOS. Great for a quick fix.
