Nope. One in five who take the ACT score worse than that, and you can bring up your score by studying. This is my favorite ACT math book. Khan Academy math materials are also helpful. Consider getting a book that covers the full ACT, signing up for a class, or getting a tutor.
They're called the Mirado Black Warriors from Paper Mate, here's the Amazon Link but I got it from a local office Max/Depot, here's the link to that
My English score went up by 9 points by reading one simplistic book: The Elements of Style
Start reading and studying it a week and a half before the next ACT and read it at least 3 times (the more the better)! It will help!! My 26 English went up to a 34!
Yeah you should get it
SAT Version but its old stuff, should be mostly the same thing though
I think that if you try to simulate test conditions, then it should be relatively accurate. I used the website below for test noises, and listened to it whenever I took my practice exams.
Thanks, but for Q42, why would G be wrong?
EDIT: never mind, I didn't notice it was talking about a singular subject "the channel."
Thanks anyways...

Write the combinations. AAA, BBB, CCC, AAB, AAC, BBA, BBC, CCA, CCB, ABC. 10.
When there are different types of objects, you have to choose one of each, and each one can;t run out, you can use stars and bars.
List the types as stars, and the spaces between them as bars.
* | * | *
There are five total objects and three stars.
TotalCstars
5C3
You can enter that on the calculator, or use the formula: nCr = n! / (n-r)! r!
5C3 = 5! / 2! * 3! = (5*4*3*2*1)/(2*1)(3*2*1) = 5*4/ 2*1 = 20/2 = 10

Personally, I didn't use any books for ACT reading, but I had read some SAT reading books. For the science though, I bought the For the Love of ACT Science. I didn't read much of it, just the section about science information. A lot of the science is just correctly interpreting the graph so practice that and the book may help. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1796625841/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_RWZ90T754SK2T01Z3PB3 This is the science book I used. The ACT Black Book https://www.amazon.com/dp/0997517824/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_9JDAG79RJTV7W2AP4Q3F This is a highly recommended ACT reading book. Hope this helps.
im a big fan of using a little timer with a digital display because it's easier to mess with than a watch: https://www.amazon.com/CDN-TM30-2-Alarm-Timer-Alarm-Vibrates/dp/B004S0SO9M/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=Debate+Timer&qid=1607838937&sr=8-7
It's known for being taken by proctors, though it's 100% allowed.
Buy this set: https://www.amazon.com/Official-Subject-Guides-2022-2023-Complete/dp/1119912342/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=act+prep&qid=1671582232&sr=8-4 . It will teach you everything you need to know.
I suggest getting a copy of the ACT Math Workout and doing the entire book cover to cover to help work on math.
Use real official practice sections and tests taken under realistic testing conditions after you do a good amount of skills development work in preparing for a section.
Plan to take the real test at least twice.
The ACT is trending harder. It has also changed (Especially the writing). If you're practicing you'll want the most recent tests you can get so that you can do the best. this book is super up to date and is by the writers of the ACT so it has the most up to date practice tests. This book has the best advice and also has up to date practice tests!
This is an excellent start and suggests that with prep you could get a top score (33-36). I like the Marks Prep books for the test generally and especially for math. You can also find lots of free resources online including practice tests. Probably you'll want to start by working on content and then move on to do a lot of practice test sections timed and then review any questions you miss or have trouble with later on in detail. Depending on how much time you have versus how much you want to spend, you could consider taking a class or working with a tutor. The main benefit of that, assuming you pick a good one, is that it can make the process faster and more efficient. That said, most people are capable of doing well through self-study as long as they are motivated.
IMO just find free practice tests online, take them, evaluate your mistakes and learn the material you don't know that you identified through practice testing. Repeat a few times.
Doing that a few times will fill in glaring holes provided you're at least in a decent spot and get timing down.
If you want a book, here's this: https://www.amazon.com/Princeton-Review-Premium-Prep-2022/dp/0525571574/ref=zg_bs_11670_sccl_3/135-0960673-9052304?pd_rd_i=0525571574&psc=1
It was the only thing I used to study other than free online practice tests, but I also was sitting at a 35 on practice tests before reading some timing tips and content stuff in the book, so I'm not sure how much it helped.
If you're missing content knowledge though, this book has everything.
But if you're just looking for something quick and easy before you take it, I recommend just finding random tests online. If you feel like it, try and do the sections faster than on the actual test (English section in 40 minutes for example). It could help, or not, depends on what you're struggling with if anything.
Here is the amazon link to the ACT grammar book I used (The Complete Guide To ACT English Fourth Edition)
https://www.amazon.ca/Complete-Guide-ACT-English-Fourth/dp/1733589546
Before the test I did multiple practice ones, and I remember scoring 33, 36, and 34 in the science section. I remember feeling sluggish and zoned out throughout the section after literally perspiring the whole Reading section. II bought this book, but I foolishly didn't read it and focused and on the other sections. Thanks for the advice, and I will remember to update you in late June
I'm not sure if you have a graphing calculator, but the TI-84 Plus CE is the one I recommend! They're pretty pricy new - $119 on Amazon; however, I've seen them used on Ebay and elsewhere for $30-$40, so they're worth checking out!
ACT often has a question about simplifying complex (a +bi) numbers. You can simply type the example in your calculator if you have one - and then it's an easy point! Hope this helps...good luck on your test!
and yours solidified your 33 <3

I used the 2020 version of this when I was studying (https://www.amazon.com/ACT-Prep-Plus-2022-Strategies/dp/1506277284) it helped me go from a 31 to a 35 in 5 months. I probably spent ~40 hours in total studying. Just a few problems each night before you go to bed will really help you improve. Good luck!

There are people who have taken it 15 plus times with success:
I don't know their scores but I assume they were high to begin with and looking for a perfect score. So I don't think it will harm you but as others have said, if you have other areas of your apps to work on, that would probably make sense.

If you purchase ebook, know that it has jumbled text in spots. It's not readable in those spots - mostly formulas that it mixes up by not formatting things like fractions and exponents correctly.
If you haven't already used CrackACT, I would start there. A practice book with problems that train you on math/other weaknesses is also a good idea. The Official ACT Prep Book is the standard, and it's totally fine to use an older, cheaper version as long as it's not "used" and potentially all marked-up. In my opinion, it is worth it to invest a little in a book to absorb their explicit strategies and exercises so that you're not solely completing practice tests and missing that aspect of prep. But these books are all essentially interchangeable outside of their practice tests. Princeton Review and Kaplan are also respected companies and their practice ACT books look a little more affordable, although I haven't personally used them for ACT.
SAT prep does translate, but the tests aren't quite the same. In general, the ACT is a little less conceptually strenuous, but faster. So you wouldn't necessarily want to get used to the timing on the SAT, for example, even though the material they test you on in math is identical. Therefore, I would prioritize practice ACT tests over SATs as much as possible.
Think of it like this: If you look at the graph of sin(x), no matter what x is, the graph's range will always be [-1, 1]. No matter what is within those parentheses, the lower bound will be -1 and the upper bound will be 1. So you can just ignore what's in the parentheses. If you multiply the whole function by 1/2, then that range goes to [-1/2, 1/2]. Amplitude is the distance from the center of the wave to the maximum or minimum, so since the middle value is 0, the answer is 1/2, or b.
Here, look at this graph and play around with the sliders a bit. That should give you a feel for what each number does to the graph.
your reasoning is right that if it was a parabola with a function f(x) = ax^2 with a vertex at 0, it would only touch the x-axis once.
however, when you add the extra bx term, the parabola the vertex isn't at (0, 0) anymore.
I would recommend For the Love of ACT Science for the science section, as it gives very good strategy. If you do need anything for math, I would honestly recommend the Best ACT Math Book Ever (you can buy algebra or geometry, whichever one you need). It's the most comprehensive one I've found.
When I studied for the ACT, I used the Official ACT Prep Guide and a ton of released previous ACT exams. Here is a link to the pdf version of the book-https://libgen.is/book/index.php?md5=118683DFF49A7C55FC0724419A8D0C62.

The best way to improve your score on the ACT or SAT English section is buy Erica Meltzer's English Book. Thanks to her book, I went from getting a 29 on ACT English to a consistent 35-36. She outlines each grammar rule PERFECTLY and gives you ample practice after talking about the concept. There seems to be a pdf of the 2nd version, which can be downloaded here: https://libgen.is/book/index.php?md5=A3A56D64D35A38FDA4DF3B45578FB90E. However, if you want the third edition, you have to buy it on Amazon. Trust me, if you read that book cover to cover and practice enough, you will score in the top bracket of the English section. Good Luck Everyone!
The comma must be used for adverbs of concession like “though” and “although,” as there is a logical shift.
https://prowritingaid.com/grammar/1008098/Should-you-use-a-comma-before-whereas-and-although-
here's an article I found on the subject of conjunctive adverbs
http://www.gingersoftware.com/content/grammar-rules/conjunctions/conjunctive-adverbs/
the "comma splice" issue is interesting, but not quite reasonable in my opinion. That doesn't address, for example, why we can use our coordinating conjunctions without semicolons.
A) is the correct answer because it uses proper structure
B/C) are wrong because they don't have the semicolon customary with these conjunctions
D) there needs to be some sort of conjunction here

Nope, I don't think that's it. Since triangles with the same base and height have the same area (e.g. https://www.geogebra.org/resource/MK8V6Bt5/6dihMUUCmJFQiQSL/material-MK8V6Bt5.png), and the altitude of G to the line HJ is h (the h that I drew in the photo), the area of GHI will end up being 1/2dh with h being the altitude.
Basically, this is why the h can be used for the area: https://imgur.com/a/BRpT2gu
If you want to download all of the test before the files themselves get taken down, heres the link
You can use a premium link generator if its too slow, but I'd recommend leaving it overnight.
Literally spent the entirety of my summer watching Netflix, despite the piles of summer homework and unattended ACT prep books on my desk- and repeatedly thinking "I'll start it tomorrow". Since 2 weeks ago, I've completed about a third of my homework and started "officially" prepping for ACT. What did I do? I've downloaded Cold Turkey website blocker on my laptop and downloaded Flora pomodoro timer on my phone (any app/web of your preference will do). I've found that having 25 minute study sessions helped a ton, and studying when your most focused.
Idk how to change that but if you are looking to take another test, you should get an act watch. It’s extremely helpful.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XQQW7MC/ref=cm_sw_r_em_api_glt_fabc_F2033J9PX9VCT8VAESE2
You’ll usually be given a start time and a stop time, and they’ll be something like a wall clock to help you. Usually, the administrator will also tell you when you have ten or five minutes remaining of a section. If you do find a watch helpful, opt for something like a Casio. They’re pretty reliable, and you can find good ones for 15 to 25 bucks on Amazon. There are more expensive ones, but you don’t need that. Hope this helps, and good luck! I’m taking the ACT that day, too!
The College Panda's ACT Math is the best math-specific book in my opinion.
I totally get what you mean. When I started out the last ~20 questions were a nightmare. I have 2 pieces of advice:
1) You’ve probably heard this before but you should definitely grind through as many crackact tests as possible. That way you can get exposed to lots of different problem types.
2)I would look into getting this book-> https://www.amazon.com/Most-Advanced-Math-Workbook-Guide/dp/B08W7SH8G8 It’s not the best from a quality perspective(it has some minor typos/some hard to understand explanations) but it is great because it shows you virtually anything they can throw at you. Seriously, that book has it all and it’s great practice for those last 20 or so problems.
Good luck with the math!!!
This is my favorite book for working on ACT math in particular.
The Khan Academy materials are good but not targeted toward the ACT specifically, so it can take some work knowing which parts to spend time working on, and it isn't always obvious how to find the topic that relates to a problem you're having trouble with. Your math teacher at school might be able to help with that last part, although that's probably not helpful for studying over the summer.
If you get a larger ("taller") mask, it will come up high enough so your glasses go over the top of the mask and avoid fogging. Also, I've had success with wipes for my glasses that prevent fogging. Supfine lens wipes prevent fogging for several hours for me. (I'm assuming comfort to prevent fogging is the issue, BTW.)
I have not taken the act yet (taking it in 2 days) but the Black book has done wonders for understanding each section and how to “beat” it. I have been consistently been getting much better scores on each section after going through the book. It has helped me realize that there is an exact way to solve each question and an exact reason why others are wrong.

I used this one. I bought one from amazon warehouse for about $15 and it had an option to silence any beeps you might make when pressing a button. It doesn't have a silent countdown though. Only the stopwatch function is silent
These two prep books helped me score a 35:

I also love Erica Meltzer’s English book and the Khan Academy videos.
I brought this one to my test yesterday. You can shut off the beeping sounds it makes when you press any button. The stopwatch is completely silent but the countdown timer isn't, so keep that in mind
1)in the first one dont even use a dash or colon; they are both wrong. u cant separate a noun from a prepostion by a dash or a colon.
the comma and the colon are the same ( if they have the same conditions)
2)u can get this bookhttps://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Guide-Math-Richard-Corn/dp/0998584916/ref=zg_bs_11670_10?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=0RYRQ1F48ENEMZKY2E8C math
i dont know about science and reading u can just practice
Just practice lots of questions. My tutor said to look at the science section like another reading section. DO NOT DO THIS! Look at it as graphical analysis with a bit of supporting text. For english use Erica Meltzer's book https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-ACT-English-3rd/dp/0997517883 For math just use crack act to do old math test and try to focus on the last ones, as those are usually much harder For reading just practice ur reading speed, analyzing sections and making sure that you don't run out of time. For science I don't have many tips, but there is some basic knowledge that you need to know. The rest is just inferred from the passages, so it's similar to reading.
They aren't great in all honesty.
Check out this free eBook for recommended resources. There are plenty of 'hacks' on how to get free practice tests (Without pirate)
I would assume you would have a solid shot at Cornell. Cornell is actually the most transfer-friendly of the Ivies. I just applied to Cornell as a transfer student with a 34 and am waiting on my decision. However, most of the other Ivy League schools take a more limited number of transfers. Not to say that it would be impossible to transfer somewhere like Yale, for example, but your shot would be significantly lower than that of a first year applicant's. I think you should check out Cal Newport's "How to Become a High School Superstar." The title may sound corny, but the author details the stories of many successful gap year students. Here's the Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/How-High-School-Superstar-Revolutionary/dp/0767932587. Also, as a prospective transfer student I've read a lot of material on the tips and tricks of transfer admission so feel free to PM me if you'd like to ask me anything! Hope this helps!!
Here’s a link to buy it on amazon Math WorkBook
The book essentially goes over various types of act math problem and provides several approaches to the math problem.
For free no but I just got I on Amazon because I don't think the second edition for the newer act has been uploaded in PDF. ACT Prep Black Book: The Most Effective ACT Strategies Ever Published https://www.amazon.com/dp/0692078398/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_oqadDbWAFW036
I recommend this:

It has a stopwatch which is perfect. It can be easily muted (shuffle through the manual once it arrives to find out how), and it also switches back to regular time.

I've been using it and it has helped immensely.
I would recommend getting Erica Meltzer ACT English book (https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-ACT-English-3rd/dp/0997517883) if you can. It is very useful and the English section is the easiest to get up if you can learn the grammar rules.
Sorry, this is the book I was referring to: https://www.amazon.com/-/es/MASTER-KEY-ACT-SCIENCE-crystal-clear/dp/1796625841/ref=sr_1_5?__mk_es_US=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&dchild=1&keywords=act+science&qid=1597024165&s=books&sr=1-5
You're basically guaranteed a 36 in science, even if you're not shooting that high.
ACT just came out with subject specific book this last month. You can get them on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Official-ACT-English-Guide/dp/1119674042/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=act+english&qid=1588253942&sr=8-4

As far as quality... meh. I recommend the College Panda books or definitely the Erica Meltzer books for English/Reading.
Practice won't help you at this point, you're not scoring well due to a lack of understanding rather than a lack of knowledge. I suggest reading the first ~80 pages of the black book (https://www.amazon.com/SAT-Prep-Black-Book-Strategies/dp/0692916164/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=black+book&qid=1572112910&sr=8-1) (or try finding a PDF online).
LOOL, don't do pills it's kinda bad for you. The one I use is:

One stick before the test, One stick in the middle of the test (after the math section)
Prepare the two bottles before the test tho. Also, caffeine is a diuretic so you're prob going to have to pee a lot afterward. Stay hydrated!
https://www.amazon.com/Test-Buddy-ACT-36-for-ACT/dp/B01E0CS5L4
I got this one and it really helped me get the timing down act switching from the sat. It has timer presets for each section and tells you what question/passage you should be on. The only downside is that it is cheaply made and overpriced, but in the end it gets the job done.
It does count up tho so if that does would work for you I’d go with a different one.
Read the intros and drill the questions that are giving you trouble.
There's no way to get a score that high without learning all the punctuation rules, so I would start there.
They are not really expensive at all. I bought my calc textbook on amazon (used, but still really good condition, just had a name in sharpie on cover) for $8. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0146UYO0Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

"Michael and Me" on page 44. You can actually read the whole essay by just clicking "Look Inside" on Amazon (in other words, without buying the book) because it so happens that my essay is part of the book preview.
I mean there are basically two ways. One: improve your fundamentals. That's like the long-term strategy. Basically, read like crazy. New Yorker, the Atlantic, New York Times, non-fiction books, and what not. It's like if you don't even have the muscle to throw a three-pointer, then it's pretty much pointless to practice 3pts.
Second is to learn some reading skills. Annotations, skimming & scanning, etc. Personally I'm not a big fan of these, but they do come in handy if you don't have, like 5 months to incrementally improve your reading.
If you do have the time, I would recommend the following two books: https://www.amazon.com/How-Read-Literature-Like-Professor/dp/0062301675/ref=pd_sim_14_7?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=0062301675&pd_rd_r=35Q5NY3NKYMXGNRRAZZ6&pd_rd_w=4BP03&pd_rd_wg=oJkPO&psc=1&refRID=35Q5NY3NKYMXGNRRAZZ6

I'm not sure, I haven't opened them yet. But they've got tips to eliminate answers from some of the preview ones I saw.
Here's the ones I bought, you can preview them on the site if you want: https://www.amazon.com/Barrons-ACT-Flash-Cards-2nd/dp/0764167685/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1526237037&sr=8-16&keywords=barron%27s+flashcards
https://www.amazon.com/Barrons-ACT-36-3rd-Perfect/dp/143800625X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1524353113&sr=8-1&keywords=act+barrons+36 The book is from 2015. Even though the ACT has not changed much since then, you may be better off purchasing a newer review book.
If you can read analog, this one is pretty good: https://www.amazon.com/Casio-MQ24-7B2-Analog-Watch-Black/dp/B000GB0G7A/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1523913186&sr=1-3&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=analog+watch
You should try Dr. John Chung's SAT II Math book.
I know it's not for ACT, but I used this book and scored really well on both the ACT and SAT II Math test. The concepts are pretty much the same.
Yes! So first of all I suggest you read this article: http://prepactsat.com/act-science-tips/
There's a book recommended in it, but here are the main features of it. Contains advice about how to approach the section - understanding how the passages are structure and what to look for. My method is based on how science is actually done, so it helps you understand all the passages without too much hard work. Discussion of the good and bad timing strategies and which suit different people. Different advice for students in different score ranges. Proper review of outside knowledge you need (30+ pages), including how to answer equation/math questions. Answer explanations to the ACT's 5 free practice tests so you can apply your practice on the real tests (always better than book tests) Detail on all the different types of graphs and what they show.
Here it is on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Understanding-ACT-Scientific-Reasoning-mastering/dp/1771365692/ If you do buy, please leave a review :)
I didn't end up getting the test buddy for whatever reason, I think there were bad reviews. Instead, I got a more expensive but, in my opinion, a perfect watch for the ACT. watch. It has separate timers for each section, and you can stop/pause/restart at any time. It's completely silent and does exactly what it advertises.
For science, read this book https://www.amazon.com/Love-ACT-Science-innovative-standardized/dp/0996832203. I scored 20-23 constantly on the science portion before I read this book. Now, after taking the October test, I scored a 31 in science. This book really opens your eyes to how easy the science test is. It's a short book, so you should have enough time to finish it. A chapter a day ;).
For math, I can't really help you since I have a 25 in it, but I would just say take advantage of the easy questions (first 30). Trust me, you would probably finish the first 30 in like 10-20 minutes and have a lot more time to finish the more difficult questions(last 30).
Reading sucks.
I'm also a senior, and I know we only have 1 more shot to take the test, but you just have to work hard and do a lot of practice tests. You're making an investment in your future by studying. Regret is probably the worst feeling you could have.
If you want a cheaper (and I think better) alternative, consider Understanding the ACT Scientific Reasoning. Here's what it has the "for the Love of ACT Science" doesn't have:
This is a new book, published this year, so it's not very well known yet, but if you read my Amazon reviews, you'll see that private tutors are now using the methods they've read in my book. I've been tutoring since 2014 and almost none of my students have science as their lowest score. It's almost $10 cheaper than "For the love of...", and I think it's a lot better. I don't waste space in the book constructing practice tests, because you can find them online for free and it's impossible to replicate the ACT's anyway (the book has links to my own website where you can find them). Instead, I guide you as to how to practice effectively.
Find it on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Understanding-ACT-Scientific-Reasoning-mastering/dp/1771365692/
The strategy I would recommend for science is to take a practice test and work through it in as much time as it takes you to figure out all the answers. Keep doing this until you get faster. If you can get 36 in reading (well done btw!) then you should be able to get at least 32 in science.
Here's a short version of my advice for the science section: http://prepactsat.com/act-science-tips/ and here's the long version: https://www.amazon.com/Understanding-ACT-Scientific-Reasoning-mastering/dp/1771365692/
You can do it - you just need to understand what the section is testing. Your other section scores show that you're easily capable of a 32+ in science, you just need practice and time to figure it out.
21 then 31! That's crazy! Yeah, you just need more practice, as it seems like you don't really understand the science properly yet. Skip the December test date and work towards the Feb date, or even April. If this is your third time already, don't write the test again until you're completely sure you've mastered the science section.
Your other scores are obviously higher, and the typical pattern is that students can bring their science scores up to where their reading scores are, because the skills are similar. But the science section is different, because while you're totally used to reading text, you're not used to reading mini scientific papers, which is what the science section is.
Hopefully it should end up that you can still do ok on passages where you don't understand what's going on. A lot of the time it doesn't matter for the questions. One of the best strategies to address this is to just grab a practice test, and answer the questions in whatever time it takes for you to figure out the right answer. Doesn't matter if that takes you 50 minutes. You gotta figure out how to walk before you can run on this test, if that makes sense.
Here's the short version of my advice for the science section: http://prepactsat.com/act-science-tips/ and here's the long version: https://www.amazon.com/Understanding-ACT-Scientific-Reasoning-mastering/dp/1771365692/
Good luck!
Yes, definitely. It requires a bit more practice than other sections, because it's less familiar. Get some practice tests and spend some time figuring out how to answer all the questions correctly (even if it takes you more than 35 minutes). You need to spend some time familiarising yourself with the test and learning how it works. It will likely take you 5-6 practice science tests to get you there, but you should put in the effort! Your other scores are very high, so I'm confident that your science score could be at least a 33.
I'm a tutor, and none of my students ever have a score distribution like yours because I've helped them figure out the science section. Yep, I second Richard Corn for Math and Erica Meltzer for English.
For reading, I honestly don't think there's a good book that can help you. You know how to read, and you know how to answer questions. There's not much that can help you beyond you doing lots of practice and spending time figuring out your mistakes. If you want reading strategies, the internet is your friend (try here for starters: http://prepactsat.com/category/reading-comprehension/)
For science, (especially if you liked my reading advice), try Understanding the ACT Scientific Reasoning - it's new, so not well known, but other tutors who've seen this are now using my methods (see the reviews). https://www.amazon.com/Understanding-ACT-Scientific-Reasoning-mastering/dp/1771365692/
