Gonna go against the grain here, because the other player did have some points which you should not dismiss. Whether or not he was disruptive is aside from his tactical suggestions, in the timeless words of The Dude, "You're not wrong Walter, you're just an asshole".
You seem to believe that being effective in combat necessitates poor role-playing. This is known as the Stormwind Fallacy, and it is a common mistake. Tell me, who gets to role-play after the party TPKs due to poor tactics?
Now, was this guy being a jerk? Yeah, probably. Unless you guys were in seriously dangerous combats these errors are really not a big deal.
Edit: I spouted incorrect information about the Unconscious condition.
What does the rulebook say? According to Roll20's compendium (derived from the free rules), druids will not wear armor or use shields made of metal.

If you take that feat, I would personally rule that you couldn't use druid abilities while wearing metal armor.
I was hoping to see a Ravenloft sequel... then this came up (Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft (Dungeons & Dragons) https://www.amazon.com/dp/0786967250/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1M9SRDVDY4NM00Q71ZQ8)
Most people don't realize that Calm Emotions can suppress charm and fear effects. My clerics always take it - it's low level and drastically reduces the threat from creatures like Grazzt.

Dendar isn't especially tough.
In answer to your questions:
1) Season 1 has quite a few good adventures. You need to read them through and cross reference them and might be worth checking online for errata. The first 5 mini adventures are a bit basic but hey, it's a start. I'd then recommend season 4 and season 7 as being pretty well spoken of. The hardcovers are a different story but then you really need a bigger group to get into those. Say, Lost Mines of Phandelver and then Storm King's Thunder will keep you going for about a year plus others.
2) Being AL compliant is running as per the latest Adventurer's League rules which start quite soon if not already. If you wish, you can get a DCI number from the Wizards site and you can get your player's ones. The important thing to do is log what you're doing even if you don't have a DCI number. There's free resources on DMs Guild.
3) Up to you. I mix and match. Depends how "set piece" I'm feeling.
4) They are all alleged to be about 4h (except the mini 1h adventures). Some of those however... well... hard to see how they could be compressed to that time.
5) Meetup.com is pretty simple. You say what sort of meetup you're going to do and fill it in. I will be honest, it's not a great idea to start from your house. I would be pretty uncomfortable with inviting randoms from the internet into mine without having spent some time with them first. There's r/lfg on Reddit and your town may have a subreddit. You can only run with 3-7 players to stay AL legal so plan accordingly.
Best of luck!
Roll20.net offers several groups you can join dedicated entirely to AL and AL legal. Usually the games are within their game rooms while voice is through discord. Just search for "league" in the looking for groups section.
Welcome to the club. Mind the Kobolds.
I've never played AL in reality, I typically play off a Discord server. If you ever want a place to hang online, I highly recommend it. AL Hub
We have games happening just about every night, lots of information on making characters on Roll20, our preferred play area, and tons of helpful people who will answer just about any question you throw out.
Glad your first experience was positive even with a couple idiots who were probably just there to level up a character.
This app is awesome for character building and (as far as I've experienced) has been AL legal

We use Meetup.com for our weekly event. It serves as both advertising and basic organizing.
Basically I post a different Meetup event for each tier, and set the attendance limit is based on the number of available DMs.
Players sign up on Meetup to snag a seat at out events.
Our event hosts about 20-30 players every week; generally our limiting factor is DMs, not players - we almost always have waitlists.
It's not a bad system, it makes sure we don't have more players than seats at the event.
I'm conflicted about this.
On one hand, it's not clear to me what was being punished.
> Philter of Love
The next time you see a creature within 10 minutes after drinking this philter, you become Charmed by that creature for 1 hour. If the creature is of a species and gender you are normally attracted to, you regard it as your true love while you are Charmed. This potion's rose-hued, effervescent liquid contains one easy-to-miss bubble shaped like a heart.
On the other hand, I've been treated badly by the people running that server and by this individual in particular, so I'm feeling some wonderful schadenfreude here.
As someone who has interacted with her in her official capacity as an admin of that server, I can absolutely see FNDM using her position of power to punish the DM in her game if they had not allowed her to sexually assault the NPC. She has personally kicked DMs out of events for not "playing ball".
Roll20.net is free to use (unless you want some of the more interesting features but they're optional) and doesn't take long to learn. There'd be some prep needed by the DM, but what's new there.
Here is the item description of the Staff from the roll20 compendium.
You can use it like a normal +2 weapon, but it also grants you a defensive bonus in granting you advantage on saves against spells and if a spell is targeting you and only you, you can use your reaction to absorb the spell. For example, if someone is targeting with a disintegration spell, use your reaction to absorb it and 6 charges back into your staff, just make sure you are at 44 or less charges so the staff doesn't explode on you. Being disintegrated is one of the worst things that can happen to your character and it is a very possible thing at T3 and above.
Add in being able to cast Conjure Elemental (7 charges), Dispel Magic (3 charges), Fireball (7th-level version, 7 charges), Flaming Sphere (2 charges), Ice Storm (4 charges), Invisibility (2 charges), knock (2 charges), Lightning Bolt (7th-level version, 7 charges), Passwall (5 charges), Plane Shift(7 charges), Telekinesis (5 charges), Wall of Fire (4 charges), or web (2 charges), just adds so many more options for you, letting you cast so many more spells in a single day, as well more readily access to some high level spells like Planeshift and 7th level fire balls and lightning bolts. This just opens up so many more options for you to use.
Have: Ring of Spell Storing, rare, requires attunement.
Want: Mace of Disruption, rare, requires attunement.
Have: Staff of the Woodlands, Rare, Requires Attunement
Want: +2 longbow preferably, but I may be open to alternative offers. :)
I see. My friend has a Necklace of Adaptation for trade for it if ever you're interested. Other items from my friend: Balance of Harmony, Stone of Goodluck, Wand of Webs
How about a Wand of Magic Missiles (Uncommon, no attunement) for your Gauntlets of Ogre Strength?
It'll free up one of your attunement slots and give you a guaranteed source of reliable damage!

A different suggestion...join a site like meetup.com, that is how I met my AL groups
Lots of AL groups actually meet up at pubs and restaurants too and are always looking for new DMs in my experience.
Have: Cloak of Elvenkind (U,A)
Want: Gauntlets of Ogre Strength, Periapt of Wound Closure, Stone of Good Luck, Winged Boots, or Weapon of Warning
Sheet protectors. I've used these for character sheets, too, to store the character sheets, logs, and any certificates for a given character.
Depending on the quality of your printer, or a friend's, or one at your neighbor's aunt's office (a laser printer would be best, if you have access to one), it would be fairly painless to print them yourself.
Grab a ream of cardstock from Amazon -- I recommend this one for $10 -- and run them off as you need them. The cardstock is a great weight for certs, too, if you're printing those.
Legit offer: I have both of these things, a laser printer and cardstock, so if you're only looking for a handful of tents, PM me and I'll be glad to print and send to you for the cost of postage.

I bought a zipper binder and two pocket insertable tabs for it to hold all of my log sheets. Definitely makes things a lot more manageable.
