A little embarrassing to self-promote but Animal Collective was my main influence to write my first novel, I reference their music and tripping a lot in it. So it might fit the mood you’re looking for:
the static at the beginning of For Reverend Green is actually a sample of a guy saying - "whether or not you believe it, you are listening to true recordings of bigfoot creatures in their natural environment...." i used to think it was just a block of distortion.
It's that stuttering acoustic guitar sound you hear from 0:00 on. Here is the WhoSampled entry - you can't find the Beatles' song ("All Together Now") on YouTube, because their label takes their music down, but if you have Spotify you can hear the sample there.
It took quite a bit of time and video editing to make sure no copyright infringements had been made, thus there are some minor inconsistencies in the video. I unfortunately had to remove "This Side of Paradise". I hope you guys enjoy the performance. I felt compelled to upload the performance because it is probably the best quality Panda performance I have seen in digital format before and the rawness of Noah's voice is incredible in the performance.

I made it using a program called rainmeter (hence the title). I'm fairly sure I could somehow create a package that would install the theme in full on your computer through the program, but this is my first experience with it so I would have to figure it out. I'll look into it tomorrow.
It's only 18 bucks on Amazon shipped and I found it used for 7+shipping here. Totally worth it IMO. I do own a copy and offer free viewings :) but you'd have to live near Chandler, AZ.
You should be able to find a torrent of it. I know at least one person who got their copy off TPB.
Anyone else notice this is a photo of them with this lighting effect ran through the Google deep dream generator?
Seems to be Geo, Panda and Avey from left to right.

This part is actually a sample from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
There was a set of demos someone posted here a week or so ago that I've been listening to, I'll link when I'm off mobile
EDIT: Here's the demo.
yep, here's Rob Carmichael's ig post about it: https://www.instagram.com/p/-haYD-FQoj/
although Brian DeGraw is probably doing artwork (or music video??) for Bagels in Kiev. Check the last few comments on this post from 2 months ago: https://www.instagram.com/p/8RYzg_Ecn7/
sounds like an extensive sound collage of various CHz instrumentals. I've always liked when the group does synth wankery. really nice.
also it reminds me of Experimental Audio Research, an electronic drone project featuring Sonic Boom and Kevin Shields.
Info for people who don't get it:
Also the weird gnome sounding voice all over the song also reminds me of Caribou's "A Final Warning" . They sound very similar and I'm not sure if they sampled the same source or something..
I don't have that particular clip. Audacity is a piece of software available for most operating systems, but It's probably enough to say it's Mac compatible ;). You can download it here: http://www.audacityteam.org/ Here is a youtube video detailing how to make an music file clip from an existing file: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ycm8f1iFcI If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
I can't find it either, but the amazon listing is still up.
Haha, check the Genius lyric annotations: http://genius.com/Animal-collective-bluish-lyrics
A lot of people think it's definitely about that, even if it isn't it always gave me a super sexual vibe but somehow it retains this sense of purity and innocence through the sheer amount of love you can hear in it... Also sadness... The song confuses me
Spires That in the Sunset Rise - s/t
This is the most similar album to HCTI I've found (it has some Hollinndagain vibes too)
It's pretty easy to find, even the DMM version. https://www.discogs.com/Animal-Collective-Feels/release/1620643
I've also seen it around at a lot of record stores lately, I think it got repressed sometime last year.
Thank you very much for the giveaway! Wow! Thank you for viewing my stuff, and congrats to /u/leonisthename. For anyone who is interested, feel free to see my collection here and my wantlist here
Sweet, yeah now that you mention it I remember reading that thread.
You're probably familiar with discogs, but its the best online vinyl marketplace I know of. Here's the info on the clear version of tomboy: https://www.discogs.com/Panda-Bear-Tomboy/release/2831059
that's not the real name of the album, this is: 98.12.28 男達の別れ (98.12.28 Otokotachi no Wakare)
Hey, I'm the designer of the slipmat. There are a number of third party strobe apps in the Google Play store which will give you the same effect. Strobily Free is one popular example. Here are some tips for using any of these third party apps:
In both instances, set the duty cycle to as low as your device will let you go. Anything under 10ms should be fine.
You may have to tweak these frequencies slightly because most phones perform differently and the timings need to be very precise to work properly.
I hope that helps!
Not sure how often you check eBay... Two just popped up on the site.
little pricey.. just a heads up
You should 100% get a pair of ATH-M50x's. I've had mine for 10 years and I bought a second pair last year. First pair is still kicking, I just wanted two.
These are my favorite headphones in the world. Not only are they perfect for listening to music, they are perfect for performing, recording, and especially for mixing. So if you ever want to get into music as a hobby these will be a great asset.
My sister has informed me they now have a sick-ass bluetooth version version now with an insanely-long 72 hour battery life and an app for EQing music on your phone.
Don't think. Do it. If you must think, demo the headphones at the store until you come to your senses and buy them like you should have a long time ago.
Regarding earplugs. Get them. It doesn't make you weak or a pussy or any toxic, male-chauvinist, macho b.s.. Protect your hearing. I'm in my 40's and my hearing is fantastic. Had it checked recently and my hearing was akin to someone in their early-twenties / late-teens. Not as good as a 12 year old's but really good. And why is that? Because I wear earplugs - the kinds linked below - to all amplified shows. I actually wear them (or noise cancelling ear buds, or tight, over-the-ear headphones) a lot (America is a loud place after all!). Over time this has blocked lots of ear-damaging sound.

And be certain to bring an open mind. AC is known to change up their songs, have long bridges to the next song (not a lot of stops between songs), and in general be creative. If you happen to be the type that prefers something close to the recorded version (or otherwise previously performed live but unreleased), you'll be disappointed. Personally, that's one of the main draws to see them live :)
Hello, I'm a bot! The movie you linked is called Strange Behavior, here are some Trailers
Always cool when things line up like that. Have you heard of Josephine Foster- if you're digging Emily's poems at any rate: http://www.allmusic.com/album/graphic-as-a-star-mw0001937549
She once did an album of Dickinson interpretations, she's great.

This was one of a few things I saw that cited it as a response to criticisms, but I couldn't find these criticisms before Sung Tongs was released, so I think you might be right.
here's my copy i uploaded for ya. unsplit though. great quality. MUCH better quality than the MoMa perfomance. https://mega.nz/#!Ok5EzBpb!XEnrhHpBs60j4JnSt4u58SKDfjfsvwUoYdjoVLOF0Ow
here's the full video of the encore (encore only...) that i recorded. was right next to the speaker so the bass causes some wobbles but audio and video is still pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMsiVbFmmLU
I believe "The Otterguild" is a name they published some releases under. Other ones they've used are Avey Bear Tongs and Forest Children Sound
Hey all. I'm not sure if a winner was picked or not. But, I thought I would share my setup anyways. Sorry this is kinda late! Without further ado, here is my viny setup! My favorite song from Sung Tongs is definitely Kids On Holiday. Here is my current vinyl collection. Edit: I forgot to say thank you very much for doing this! Nice of you :)
I got it maybe a year ago on Amazon for what I remember being a standard 2xLP price. I assume its sold out everywhere and is likely to be repressed.
Edit: http://camelcamelcamel.com/Feels-Vinyl-Animal-Collective/product/B000AMSROE?context=browse
try these albums:
Gas - Pop
Blithe Field - Face Always Toward The Sun
Set Fire To Flames - Sings Reign Rebuilder
Jan Jelinek - Kosmischer Pitch
Lots of stuff by the Jewelled Antler Collective
Here's my list on RYM, which fluctuates a lot, but top 5 is usually like:
1) Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy
2) MF DOOM - MM.. Food
3) Avey Tare and Panda Bear - STGSTV
4) MBV - Loveless
5) Tame Impala - Lonerism
Hope you don't mind, I've screenshot some of these pics for the discogs entry for the tape: https://www.discogs.com/Animal-Collective-Michael-Remember-Dannys-Jam/release/8496136 If you don't want them used I can remove them
Also, what's the story with the two orange stickers?
same for me but I started with strawberry jam in 07 sometime my first year in college, and though i like a few songs on that and then latter albums, most songs were too odd and never got into them.
saw them live at roo this year and...mind blown. obsessed now.
i haven't found any quality live recording from bonnaroo 2013, but i recently shared my live video collection
they're all great, but triaton, fly me to the moon, prospect park, and sydney are the better HD quality ones full shows (except prospect park).
enjoy.
Give it a try! I learned from this online Photoshop magazine that we're subscribed to at my work. I think it's a paid subscription so you might not be able to see it, though. The first one I did was Billy Corgan with Smashing Pumpkins lyrics.
It's not a sample of Street Flash, but it may be the the same source sound used in Street Flash here which might also be on the studio version of Bros.
He also reuses this in Bros which was originally in an unreleased Animal Collective song called What I Do, so it wouldn't surprise me if he reused the Street Flash laugh as well.
http://www.freesound.org/people/thanvannispen/sounds/9550/
Freesound is a website where people essentially create sounds for the public to use in whatever they want.
AnCo has used it quite a few times. I know Bluish, Cobwebs, and In the Flowers and a few more songs used Freesound samples.
I'm a musician! Here's a link to some old stuff: https://www.jamendo.com/en/list/a69584/juicing-the-spectrum
Working on some new stuff but it's pretty rough right now...not like the album above wasn't, haha.
I currently own Strawberry Jam & MPP. Looking to get HCTI, Feels, & Sung Tongs next. Here are all of the records that I own, with the exception of Star Wars by Wilco and Painting With, which I haven't added yet.
Oh, and Sunny Day Real Estate's album Diary.
~~Amazon preorders are still available!~~ Sold out now :(
From the Vice doc and context clues I am 98% sure they used a Tascam 8 track at least for that EP.
It's probably a personal choice by the engineer though.
https://www.amazon.com/Tascam-8-track-Portable-Digital-Recorder/dp/B0036VC3I2
$40 is a bit high for a needle, but it should last you for awhile. My gross estimation for new cartridges is about yearly or so, but even that might be too frequent.
It's from Living Bridge, a collection of songs by bands that recorded at Rare Book Room Studio in Brooklyn.
Avey Tare has this song on there, his sister Abby has a song with her band Rings, and there's a few other interesting bands on there as well (Silver Jews, Black Dice, Deerhunter)
