Correct in that it's not illegal; however, experts warn that it can actually make you LESS visible during downpours than using your regular lights.
And it very much can be illegal in other states.
So while it's legal, there's definitely a difference between legal and best practice.
The New York Butcher Shoppe in Cahaba Heights is fantastic. Great quality meat, plus they have beer, wine, and pre-made dinners as well. There's a fish market called Sexton's Seafood 2 stores down in the same shopping center. You could get it all done in one trip!
I threw in some links for other reviews and contact info.
Sipsey Wilderness. Between now and October, it'll be hot and sweaty AF, but it'll be fun. There is plenty of water for swimming and cooling down. Take bug spray.

Sean Hannity is a piece of shit. That’s the only reason he appears to be changing his attitude.
For Birmingham proper it looks good. Spann says a little icing on bridges. I don't think you should worry too much.
It's on the parkway in this depressing ass stripmall. Head on over to Uptown Novelty for all of you bong and dildo needs afterward.
I second getting some webcams. I purchased Yi Home Cams from Amazon and they have been great. It sends an alert to my phone when it detects motion, along with a 6 second clip uploaded to the cloud (for free). You can also subscribe to their enhanced cloud service which will send all recorded video up to their cloud servers.
My cousin bought a Blink camera and mounted it in an unreachable location on the exterior of his house. Although pricier than the Yi, it runs on batteries so no need to worry about running power - the battery supposedly lasts up to 2 years. Like the Yi, it captures video and sends an alert to your phone when it detects motion.
Of course with both, you will need an active internet connection with wifi.
You're absolutely correct that they've gone up in stores. That's been the price I've seen for a while. I've had much better luck online.
Amazon has a box of 50 for $20. Link
Office Depot ran an online deal for a while where they were selling a box of 50 for $15 plus tax with free shipping, but that deal might be dead now.
Or, rather than rely on eyeballing and whatever biases you dragged into this thread, you might try actual science: https://www.wunderground.com/health/us/al/birmingham/35201
According to this, air quality is well inside the Good range.
TLDR: It's not safe to drive with your hazard lights on in the rain, moron.
This doesn't necessarily help you, but just to be sure for anyone who may need to know, the ACA is still law and the enrollment period for 2018 plans begins Wednesday: https://www.healthcare.gov/quick-guide/dates-and-deadlines/
Like /u/willco17 said, Codecademy is pretty good. And free. Nothing more than a web browser required to get started.
Coder Dojo also has free sessions, and if you happen to live in a city that has an actual group, they are a great resource.
If you want to learn primarily web stuff, General Assembly has a thing called Dash that teaches HTML, CSS and JS, the basic building blocks of the web. Also free, also totally in the browser, so there are no complex toolchains to set up or anything.
https://dash.generalassemb.ly/
What's important to remember when you are learning to code is to focus on the concepts, not the language. Just like Spanish, French and English all have common concepts like verbs, nouns, adverbs, conjunctions, etc, so do programming languages. Once you get your head around what a variable is, what a loop is, how flow control works, what a method or function is, inheritance, encapsulation, etc, you can pick up new languages very quickly. If you know the concepts, the rest is pretty much just learning a new grammar for expressing the same ideas.

Hi Andrew,
We just received the link to this post from a friend of the company. We have recently released a new App called EventPro that follows the same general idea as Koyote. Although we are based in Huntsville AL, we also have Birmingham featured on EventPro as well.
EventPro is a work in progress as well, but we believe, as you do, that there is certainly a need for a platform that brings all of the cities attractions into one place! In addition to the EventPro App, we also partner up with local Event Coordinators to host Events.
Tomorrow we are having our First Annual "Back To School Fest" from 3-6pm at the WEUP Radio Station in Huntsville. Because of their interest in EventPro, 103.1 WEUP, Pepsi, MetroPCS, Huntsville Hospital and several other sponsors were willing to team up with us in order to make "Back To School Fest" possible. (There is a need for platforms like this)
It would be nice to converse sometime! You can contact us at
Check it out and see what you think!

"the middle of summer"
The first fire occurred on March 12th, 2019. The second fire occurred two days later. The low temperature on March 12th, 2019 was in the mid 40s.
Pretty feasible that Tony wasn't the only person living there. More feasible that some actual newbies unprepared for a brief cold night and tried to keep warm. Also feasible that the second fire was started by the owners to finish the job.
Also stop by Natural Bridge on your way up there. It's a cool little private park with a good short hike and artesian wells. It's lovely rain or shine and possibly better in the wet because it has waterfalls.
And the Backwoods Grill and Fish Camp right by there aint half bad either.
I've done this too. Best Buy recycling service isn't tied to buying from them, the only limitation is that there can't be more than 3 items per day (and the little things wouldn't count, you can just drop those in the box right inside the door), more info here
I bought a groupon specifically for this and then ended up forgetting about it but that aside... they seemed nice when I called and asked for info. www.facebook.com/Shelbyoaksfarm
looks like they're offering another groupon right now: https://www.groupon.com/deals/shelby-oaks-farm-3
I have always been a fan of Anthony's Car Wash. They have "Full Service" options starting at 25 dollars. They often have specials and Groupons as well.
Well, balls.
In that case, my friends and I used to have a spot up on the side of the mountain that had beautiful views of the city. We would go up there late (2-3am, so as not to get run off by the people who live there). I think it was Crest Road South
No, legal immigrants ARE required to carry paperwork. http://www.ehow.com/list_7490474_rules-carrying-immigration-papers.html E-how isn't the best source, but it's all I feel like reading through at the moment.
Nowhere in the act does it say that people will be stopped because of their race. The police already have the power to set up checkpoints on any public road whenever they please, so that's that.* The law punishes employers, LEOs and other civil workers for not being diligent in enforcing existing federal laws, which by itself is no problem. The BPD could use a fire under it's ass.
*they cannot, however, see you rollin, be hatin, and stop you for no reason.
Tuttle and Kline are still together and left Birmingham to go to Houston, where they are still on the radio. Neither of them took a gig in Florida.
According to this, Luka was in fact born in England.
Hurricane Shane does not work in Birmingham.
I'd be shook if you found one IRL in Birmingham, unless it's something Sur la Table or The Vintage Wine Shoppe carries and I'm just unaware (definitely possible), but I was able to find this one on Etsy if all else fails: https://tinyurl.com/y7orfjt6.
I didn't go to the con but, I have seen some of the news from it and this has caught my eye. I think it might be my next purchase:

I'd like to nominate Simple. They live up to their name, in the sense that they only offer one account type, but their website and app are the best I've used in the financial institution world.
Incidentally, I used to be a developer on the Regions mobile app team.
It's almost the best time of year to go, too! May through June according to this site.
Not a club, but he could check out Ingress. Mobile game for Android devices, has some social aspects where you meet and coordinate with other players.

Thanks for pointing that particular player out to me!
There will need to be some reconciliation with the Senate due to a minor language amendment in the House - hopefully a quick process tomorrow. Then it should be off to the governor for signing.
EDIT/UPDATE: The Senate has concurred on the amended bill. It is off to the governor. Interestingly, the governor doesn't have to sign it for it to take effect. If a week passes without signature, it becomes law anyway. So, done deal.
David Burns is the main CBT guy. He wrote "Feeling Good: The New Mood Science: which is a CBT Bible.
He also has created a workbook that takes you through CBT.
A number of studies have shown that using a workbook for CBT is very effective.
Not as effective as working with a qualified professional, but worth doing nonetheless. Which was a pretty big deal in the therapy world.
Our local library has the work book. Most do. And the download is available on some of the library systems too.
So it can essentially be free.

It’s made of wool and thus I don’t wear it in the summers. I can’t imagine playing in a wool hat and jersey back then, sheesh.
Edit: they’re out of stock on the Large now but FYI the “large” is a size 8 hat, which is definitely too big for most people. I soaked mine in hot water to shrink it a little when I got it.
For individual books, "It's Kind of a Funny Story" by Ned Vizzini and "Looking For Alaska" by John Green.
Series-wise, Harry Potter, LotR, Pendragon, Artemis Fowl, Children of the Red King (the Charlie Bone series).
I don't know why but I love YA/fantasy a lot, and have reread all the above over and over.
Nonfic wise (in the spirit of /u/almostgnuman), "Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software" by Charles Petzoldt is a phenomenal book & resource.
Oh, you probably wanted fiction. The increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhiker's Trilogy, obviously.
The method is based on Your Money or Your Life by Joe Dominguez. It will work with the Dave Ramsay debt snowball (familiar with that as well).
The general idea is that you figure out what your actual hourly wage is and then divide that into the budget total for a specific thing or category. Then you decide if it was worth the hours worked or not.
I have found that it is a very positive addition to budgeting because it focuses on increasing what really matters to you and reducing what doesn't.
Someone is staring a book club at Saturn in Avondale. I need to see if I can find a link to it, but the books picked out seem really great! First meeting is tonight I think.
Edit- here's the details:

That's not necessarily the case. The hazards are more to indicate a stopped vehicle.
Hazard lights make it difficult to tell if you are turning or breaking, versus regular lights, when your vehicle is moving. It's even illegal in some states (though not in Alabama) to use hazard lights while your vehicle is in motion.
DeSoto, Cloudland Canyon, Little River Canyon, The Dismals, Cumberland Caverns… there are so many!
OR you could stay here in Locust Fork!
Thanks! I would be very interested in teaching a class. I work with MakeBHM a lot, so it's been on my mind. I have 2 questions for you if you don't mind:
• What would be the best way to advertise?
• Would you be more interested in a 1 time class that taught how to make a small knife, like a kiridashi, or a larger, more in depth one broken into several classes?
MapMyRide offers a feature for generating routes based on other users' routes. You can also set a start point, end point, and approx distance. Along with being able to just search others' routes.

Thanks so much! Part of the problem may be the update 'once an hour' so what he is stating may be several degrees wrong at that moment. Superior perhaps may be this site which updates continuously.
I believe that Mi Pueblo should have it. I've never seen it at Publix, though I could have been looking in the wrong place.
I'd also recommend picking up some of this wagyu tallow online.
This is not too many. As you point out, different sauces have different uses. Just off the top of my head I’d say we have close to 20 different hot sauces on hand.
My most recent addition is this Melinda’s Pizza Hot Sauce. It’s better than just putting red pepper flakes on a slice.
I got it from Amazon but someone told me it’s available at Buc-ee’s.
They ship but I couldn't get a shipping price without providing all my deets.
Prices on Amazon seem better and several get one-day shipping. That means the warehouse is "local", right?

Oak Mountain State Park is the largest state park in alabama and happens to be twenty minutes south of the city. This book is relevant We have bars for every crowd pretty much. Smoking isn't decriminalized. I wouldn't sweat it though as long you're being sensible about it.
The myth is that tornadoes don't form over or hit mountains, that's not what I said. Topography absolutely effects tornadoes, anything high enough to change any aspect of the rotation or the inflow or outflow channels will effect where a tornado goes, how strong it is, and even if it forms or not. The stronger the tornado, the more perfect the conditions need to be, that's why you rarely see strong tornadoes traversing areas with high mountains.

SAW's Soul Kitchen in Avondale. Awesome.
And I like most of Trip Advisor's recommendations but they're leaving out the new Birmingham Barron's field. You should take in a game. Fun. Good food.

Most people don’t clean right - if you read on a bottle of spray cleaner, it’ll tell you how long to leave the item or surface wet in order to disinfect. This is one reason why stomach illnesses spread so easily.
Another reason is that they don’t tell you - and this is a big one - that most cleaners don’t kill stomach viruses! These viruses live in your acidic stomach, so they’re really bullet proof. Bleach kills them. Also:

Somebody gave me this one for Christmas last year. It has a lot of awesome pictures of the old city center, and also some notes on which buildings are still standing:
It looks like Barnes & Noble still sell some of these books which are worth checking out. I've got one somewhere that covers the Southside and Highland Park area, has pictures of older buildings and homes, when they were built, etc. Check the B&N at the Summit, that's where I found them.
Development at OMSP is controlled, not prohibited.
Re growth creep - OMSP ain't Yosemite. The park itself is never going to be a "destination" so I'm pretty sure one or two hotels would cover it. It's the state's largest park, so it deserves a lodge and restaurant like Cheaha Resort and Joe Wheeler and several others.
Re the noise, right now the guys out at the BMX track can't hear the tractors at the petting farm, nor the lawnmowers on the golf course.
I heard it announced on NPR this afternoon that HBO is going to work with iTunes and premier HBO Now. So, while not true at this exact moment, it will be in april!

Im in a similar boat. What are some mangas, or stories that you enjoy? Im thinking of going to Magic City Con later this month, Ive never been to one, and I dont have anyone to go with - but I wanna try something new too! Meetup.com seemed good at first but is kind of dry after diving into it tbh.

I think Champions in Vestavia is still accepting this: https://www.groupon.com/deals/champions-mma-1-3

Ignoring the fact that owners are the ones that are taking on the majority of the financial risk, employees still have the freedom to quit and work somewhere else. Not making enough money? Hustle up and figure it out. Go somewhere else.
I’m well aware that the stock market “tanked.” I personally lost more than a third of my own retirement savings in a two week period in March. Guess what happened after that. It went back up. It’s three months later and it’s right back where it was.
As for servers and boh staff not having access to retirement accounts, you should probably look into personal IRAs from companies like Charles Schwab (https://www.schwab.com/ira). You don’t have to have a company provided 401(k) to save money for later in life. You can currently put up to $6000/year into the account and over time it will grow immensely.
Get a roommate, get a second job, work more hours, cut out luxuries, etc. Start hustling.
All trails is your friend: https://www.alltrails.com/us/alabama/birmingham
I’ve got a few favorites. Blue trial up to King’s Chair at Oak Mountain. Turkey Creek loops are chill. Bankhead National Forest trails are good if I have all day — some water fall loops too.
That has confused me as well. The address is Vestavia, it's "Vestavia Falls" and a Vestavia fire station is directly across the street. But Hoover police answer the calls around here. Maybe Hoover owns this side of Columbiana? Checking...
Here are Vestavia's boundries. Looks like the apt. complex is in Vestavia according to Google Maps, but only just. The entire complex doesn't look like it is in one district.
As for the burglaries, the word being spread among the neighbors was a description of a car that matched my girlfriend's who lives in Bluff Park, so we've been made well aware of the recent car and home break-ins.
You might do well to spend an hour or so learning Blender and Cura. Blender is open source, reasonably straight forward. You could be up and running within the hour, tons of tutorials on YouTube. Cura is what you run your 3d design through to get it ready for 3d printing by slicing it into printable layers.

Welcome to Birmingham! Several of my church friends attended BSC and really liked it.
First, note that the area around BSC has a bad reputation safety-wise. You should be fine on the college campus itself, but I wouldn't linger around its outskirts. Then again, you sound like the type someone would regret messing with.
One of the most popular dining spots for college students is Al's on 10th Ave. I've actually never been, which is kind of astonishing considering that I work less than a mile away. I also thoroughly recommend Surin and Cantina in Pepper Place. O'Henry's is the best coffee shop in my opinion. I really like the Highlands location. Avondale is a really popular hangout spot too, but once again, it's not the safest area (although it is improving in that regard).
Be careful in Five Points – people will harass you for money. It's technically illegal to ask for money or give it in that area. I've heard wearing headphones keeps them away, but don't hold me to that. (Note: I'm not trying to be cold here – in fact, I've volunteered and packed meals for families in need in the past, and I plan to do it again soon. But someone actually followed me to my car, which is more than a little creepy.)
As for the best professors, go to RateMyProfessor.com.
The tower is just office space. Nothing glamorous (unless you are an executive).
I work for Walter Energy. We are a "minerals" company, and basically mine and sell coal/natural gas and the bi-products.
Obviously, there isn't a strip mine in a shopping mall. But our offices are there. We rent the top 2 floors of the Galleria tower. The 17th floor is for the executives, and HR. The 16th floor is where i work. It houses basically all our white collar labor: accounting, legal, auditing, sales, and IT. I'm an IT guy.
Other companies have taken other floors. I think t-mobile has one. And some "teachers" have another pair. Details would require me to talk to strangers on the elevator.

There's only two options, 65 and down Hwy 43. I know of the peach place in Chilton County and there's a place south of Montgomery forget the name though.
I've been slowly stocking up my household for the past few weeks; I started before the first cases hit here and accelerated when it became clear the American response was being run by Drs. Howard, Fine, and Howard. So far you can still find most everything if you look, with hand sanitizer probably being the scarcest item. But that's going to change once they finally start testing people and the balloon goes up.
Start training yourself not to touch your face in public right now.
A MacBook Air would be ideal, but from my experience it didn't take much to start having performance issues just using Chrome & Photoshop. Yes, I know Chrome is a resource hog.
A few years ago I used my Chromebook for web development and it worked surprisingly well. I'd was able to remote into my MacBook and work pretty well whenever I was out and about.
I also installed Elementary OS on my that same Chromebook. It's a Linux distro that tries to mimic macOS. You'd just need to be sure your all the necessary drivers are available for your Chromebook (Acer's always had any drivers needed).
This worked really well and ran extremely smooth on an Acer C7 w/ 1.1 GHz processor & 2 GB of RAM. Ultimately I just couldn't overcome the hardware quality in comparison to my MacBook.
With that said I wouldn't really consider a Chromebook as an option if you plan on using it as your primary machine to get shit done. Depending on your needs it could be a great option and one set you back <$200.
You could give Chrome's Remote Desktop a try. It lets you access the computer in a similar way as splashtop. https://remotedesktop.google.com/access
There are, of course, tons of alternate options out there but this one is free and very quick to get going with
If the problems aren't hardware you can make it a virtual chromebook clone using cloudready from neverwhere.com It's really easy and works well on older hardware that doesn't runs Windows 10 very well. The home version is free and works great.

I just moved to Birmingham (and just turned 30) and have had a lot of dates (27-32) through Bumble. I tried Tinder, as well, but found people on Tinder to be a little more strange... I haven't tried any dating sites, but in Tampa, Match.com (if you want to pay for it) was pretty good for finding fun dates. Other than that, I frequent a lot of cocktail bars/breweries with friends and just talk to people.

Best of luck!

I use this and it works very well. Honing stones can probably do better but this gets 90% results with 10% effort.
Why not just try one-way mirror film? E.g https://www.amazon.com/Window-Daytime-Privacy-Mirror-Silver/dp/B00CWGIHBE This way, you get light into the building, but others cannot see in (while you can see out).
This worked well for me. It's not super cheap but it doesn't take a lot to coat a drain so it can work overnight so a gallon lasts a long time.
If the knives are of average quality, I would just get this sharpener. Its the best quick sharpener I've used that doesn't rely on extremely aggressive carbide and its incredibly easy to use. This thing has actually derailed my plans to get better knives because it keeps making our terrible Walmart knives work great.
If they're professional grade or custom kitchen knives I don't know where to point you in Birmingham, but I would avoid the knife sharpener person at Pepper place. That machine is almost certainly an aggressive carbide sharpener which I would not run a quality knife through. I've done a fair amount of whetstone sharpening though and its really not as bad as you think. Takes a little bit of practice but its extremely calming and meditative, and a few stones will almost certainly run you less money than getting it professionally done frequently.
^ ISP wise, Spectrum has been pretty alright and stable.
WiFi wise, the TP-Link Archer A7 is one of the best budget routers recommended by /r/HomeNetworking at $57. Covers a 2BR/1BA very well.
I was going to be a smartass and do a LMGTFY link but this is the one I bought and it's just fine.
Hope you find it but, for future reference, as you can see, cable locks are only slightly better than leaving your bike not locked at all. You need a hardened steel chain and a circular lock so they can't get to a part where they can use bolt cutters. Kryptonite makes some hardened steel chains with a cloth covering but, in PDX, bike shops sold hardened steel chain with a bike tire tube around to so it wouldn't ding your paint for a lot less than Kryptonite charges for their products, or you can buy something like this
Also, if you have it chained to wood railings, they'll just saw through the wood.
I’d get one of these and watch something that doesn’t require your full attention. Assume you or someone close is blessed enough to have a tree. Also my favorite wood for smoking.
Emergency contraception is already less than $7/box. I currently show a price of $6.65 with subscribe and save on Amazon for an individual box.
Not saying free isn't great. I'm just saying this isn't as difficult to obtain as it used to be. And that's a good thing. I just don't want people to think it's super expensive and to avoid getting it because of that.
