Don't plug in your phone until the unit has booted. That seems to help reduce glitchiness for me.
Rearrange your apps to your liking on the CarPlay setting under Settings>General>CarPlay. You have multiple pages to use.

Now you just need a Qi enabled phone mount, and you’ll truly be living in the future. I have this one, and I haven’t had any issues!
Yes, I bought one from Amazon for about $60 instead of their $99 one from their website. Let me grab the link for you
PUMPKIN USB AutoPlay Dongle... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079NZ581V?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Here is the newer version of the Carlinkit adapter on amazon for those that want to try without ordering from China. This is an item that is definitely worth the premium price on amazon for quick shipping and hassle free returns. I have one for my Vehicle and it works pretty well. There are still some quirks due to it emulating the usb interface, but overall I will deal with them happily for the benefit of wireless CarPlay.
Thanks! I’ve been on the fence about whether to get one for my 2020 RAV4, you just made the sale.
There’s a little shelf you can buy online that goes into the area where the dongle plugs in. Should be the right size to hold it the box, if you drill a hole for the wire.
This. I used info from this instructional video to create a shortcut that receives dictation and feeds it to Waze.
https://lifehacker.com/the-best-ways-to-use-google-maps-with-apples-carplay-1829173067
In the instruction, the gentleman used Google Maps, but is trivial to edit the script to use Waze.
Based on your phone carrier, can I assume you’re in India? Maps is only available for CarPlay in areas Apple supports turn-by-turn navigation, which doesn’t include India.
https://www.apple.com/ios/feature-availability/#maps-turn-by-turn-navigation
According to apple.com, it is available on the 2019 Avalon: https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/available-models/
Maybe it’s only available with certain packages or options.
Have you tried contacting your dealer?
Check out the list of available models with CarPlay: https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/available-models/
If you decided on a car, go to their website and configure said car as if you were buying it. Some vehicles have it by default (meaning no extra packages), some need an extra package.
If the vehicle needs and extra package, ask the rent car if the vehicle in question have said option.
Maybe adding a bluetooth button would accomplish the same thing? Amazon sells a lot of these like this one.
Are you sure it's a SNES mini? A Raspberry Pi is an extremely popular retro gaming emulation device (via RetroPie typically) that can also do composite out that the camera would support. I would highly bet that they used that.
Posted this in another thread the other day to generally positive comments:
I have used the Carlinkit 2.0 adapter for about a year and overall love it. Once or twice it has frozen up and restarted itself while driving, but no big deal in the grand scheme of things. The 2 big reasons I went with this over Cplay2air are: • I saw many more reviews of extreme audio lag during phone calls regarding the Cplay2air. I also saw a lot of people saying that the updating and settings pages were needlessly complex • I could get the Carlinkit on Amazon, who I know has good customer service. There are a ton of bad reviews about the customer service at Cplay2air and I didn’t want to be stuck with a $150 that potentially didn’t work. For what it’s worth, this is the one I have. Just a differing opinion I thought you may be interested in: https://www.amazon.com/Carlinkit-Wireless-CarPlay-Adapter-Factory/dp/B08P1GWQDB?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1

It's low end, but I got this and haven't had a problem yet. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08T8Z2MVP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works with single or double din, so whatever dash kit you get your hands on will work with it.
My man, thank you so much for the quick reply and targeted thought. I think this is exactly the same advice I read before with someone else but, as I mentioned, couldn't find the thread. Do you think when restoring the head unit, cables are crossed and causing that (and if so, which ones would that be)? Is this something grounding tape/copper foil tape could be use to insulate the power cables or AUX cables and it remedy it? Thank you.
Edit: Do you think something like this could do the trick? https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Ground-Isolator-Stereo-System/dp/B019393MV2/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=ground+loop+isolator&qid=1595958072&sr=8-3
Yeah I bought an $8 wired dock for my car and it works great with CarPlay. After reading all the horrible reviews on the wireless dongles I stopped trying. Apple MFI Certified ChargeDock-... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BQZM6XS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I agree, I think you have the wrong product. Return it and order this. It works in my 2021 CX5.
I actually bought a $15 device called the SwitchDoc USB PowerControl Board that does it for you. I commented more about it here a few days ago.
Let me know if you have any other questions! More than happy to chat about it. Not much info online about a usable setup like this.
No, you don't want to use something like that. A battery trickle charger has lots of circuitry to try to detect the state of the battery and will probably freak out. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/ALITOVE-100-240V-Converter-Transformer-5-5x2-1mm/dp/B07MXXXBV8 would be good but you would have to cut the head off and connect the wires to the stereo harness. Obviously electricity is dangerous so be careful, if you don't feel comfortable with the idea, then don't do it .... But really, it is just 2 wires, don't let them touch, maybe use a fuse etc, be careful .... If you can hook up the stereo to the car, this shouldn't be too hard.
I have this Android radio in my Jeep, which is CarPlay capable. It's Chinese, and the radio and Android OS isn't as quick as I would like, but the CarPlay works fine and that's what I use it for 99.99% of the time. I have a USB running out the back of the radio and mounted out through one of the 12V/cigarette lighters. It looks factory and it's my favorite mod so far.
Take it out of park and then put it back into park. Maybe even pull the E brake. If that doesn't work you might have hooked up your parking brake wrong. Some settings are only accessible when the radio knows you are in park. I ended up getting a micro bypass off of amazon to get around this.
Here is another thread where another user had the same issue. https://www.reddit.com/r/CarPlay/comments/2ql9jx/ilx007_issues/
Microbypass(this also enables features in Carplay while driving) http://www.amazon.com/MicroBypass-Parking-Override-Bypass-Alpine/dp/B006FKAHFM
The USB ports for car units typically only deliver 500-1000 mA. That is probably what your old car did as well, but CarPlay is significantly more CPU intensive than just rendering Bluetooth audio. Whatever is left after the phone get what it needs to operate is sent to the battery. Another factor might be temperature (phone placement?), as the phone will throttle the charge as the battery heats up.
If you are really curious about this, especially with your suspicion about the air conditioning affecting the power, you could pick up a meter like this $10.99 one on Amazon.
Good point about USB-C. So you just use something like this to plug the Carplay dongle in to the Fire HD 8 Plus?
And no issue with that mount holding the weight of the tablet?
I have the Kenwood DDX5706S which I chose specifically for the volume knob. It has a rear usb and a rear AV-in which can be used for just audio with this cable https://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-CA-C3AV-Cable-Video-Input/dp/B001LRPLQ4
and a headphone to RCA cable like this https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-105597-3-Feet-Premium-Stereo/dp/B0094A1F3S?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1
I use it with the idatalink maesto and steering wheel controls and car info all work great. The kenwood interface is decent, but i basically only use it for carplay and front and rear cameras.
Yeah, I got whatever store brand adapter Best Buy had worked fine.
The adhesive for the metal rails included with the mount failed, so I reinforced it with some mounting tape now it holds up fine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PP2X11V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_TnLiFb0NJGABW
The wireless charger does have a really particular sweet spot but generally it’s like right over the Amazon logo.
You can still control the chrono through the stalk on the column, but lose the lap timer in the PCM... not something I will miss. I believe you also lose the radio readout on the dash, but I think you can retain that with the right adapter. Though we’re talking another $500+ for that.
I used a TOOPAI MOST HUR adapter from Amazon that did the job perfectly, cost around $100. That converts the fibre optic Bose system for the new head unit. I also used the Metra 1784 harness adapter, which you use all of two cables from (ACC and ground) and a Metra EU10 antenna converter. Also put a parking brake bypass because I can’t stand that nonsense with CarPlay. Works a treat.

This same issue has been driving me nuts, and I am about to try this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F7KJDIM/
Best I can tell, I can connect the USB3 side of this to the carplay port using a USB A male-to-male cord that DOES NOT support charging. Then connect the lightning side of the dongle to a fast charger in the cigarette lighter. This adapter is designed to let you plug cameras, USB hubs and other accessories into your iPad, but I believe it will work for this case. I will update!
I'm about to try this little guy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F7KJDIM/
Connect to carplay using a USBA male to male cord that does not support charging, then plug the lightning side into a fast-charger in the cigarette lighter. Should be arriving later this week; I'll update. This issue has been driving me crazy; lack of fast-charging port essentially makes carplay useless on longer trips!

Perfect and faster than ottocast and goes between multiple phones if you drive you and your family member the same car plus you gain the android play in case you switched from iphone
You may need these two things to get this done. This reliable mount not best but better than anything else you would buy as of today.
and this receiver to make CarPlay work. Sometimes some minor glitches on expressway otherwise Excellent flawless. So far better than anything I tried. They have good customer service too. No need for app or anything. Just use via Bluetooth. So I felt better. I didn’t want to install any apps.
I wonder if something like this would work out better since it is a more direct converter.

This is for sure it, I had the exact same issue with my 13Pro. Disabling ExpressVPN worked. I didn't know about turning off the network protection feature, a bit of a pain, but at least there's an option to enable the VPN while using CarPlay.
I didn't see this fix on any CarPlay troubleshooting guides, so thank you!
Unfortunately the built in car audio controls will not work through aux.
I do use a bluetooth remote control that is attached to my steering wheel. The remote control connects directly to my iPhone and wakes itself up when I press a button.

I use this on a 2022 vehicle and a 2020 as well. Some minor quirks being Bluetooth/Wi-Fi which result in a 7 second delay when answering a call. The other party can hear you but you cannot hear them for 7 seconds. When I answer I just say “I will be with you in seven seconds” lol

Hello I need your help.
I have purchased:JOYING Android Car Stereo Double Din 8 Inch Touch Screen Android 10.0 System Universal Auto Car Multimedia Player with 4GB RAM+64GB ROM, Support Android Auto/Bluetooth 4.2/FM Radio/WiFi/DSP
Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/JOYING-Android-Universal-Multimedia-Bluetooth/dp/B09MLPHQC2I have had a professional install it however the wifi does not work and I have no internet. I will have a signal but google or any internet related sites do not work. It says "connection error" or "no internet connection" even when there is a wifi signal. I cannot get into the play store or youtube. How do I fix this problem? Is there a setting I can change? Does the installation need to be changed somewhere? Please help. This Joying Head Unit was very expensive and so was the installation. I just got the car back today and I will research for a few days before going back to the install shop to see what they can do.Best,dr-Manhattan-21
I would think that any double-din headhunt should work...just need the right fascia/mounting kit and of course the necessary wire harness which are specific to the head unit you choose as well as your vehicle. quick search turns this up on Amazon for a mounting kit: https://www.amazon.com/SCOSCHE-GM5216B-2010-Up-Chevrolet-Equinox/dp/B01EHO3JSO
If it's the same as this one from Amazon, it connects to your car via bluetooth, FM or AUX.
One thing to keep in mind, it does not automatically dim when it gets dark.
I have been enjoying wireless CarPlay on my Atoto S8. Installed it myself... it was easy.

You'll have to search around the internet for the software, my CX-5 already had the v70 build already installed so I did not need to update it.
here you go if you buy one make sure you download the android app from the url in the manual only, don’t Google for it. Some ass hat has made an APK containing a Trojan and uploaded it all over the place.
But the app and adapter are both still being actively updated which is awesome! And all the updates are handled in the app which is really nice.

Thanks but bought the AutoSky Adapter and has worked great for me. Connects fast, small and haven’t had issues with it.

Right here all I did was remove the metal housing it comes in. It’s an awesome knob, it controls volume but it also has gestures for play/pause, skip and previous built in.
I was looking at that one, only problem is it doesn’t have all the buttons I’m looking for. I did get a TNP Bluetooth Remote which is an awesome little device, but a little awkward stuck to my steering wheel.
I have 2017 Civic Si but I’m going to assume your ‘21 infotainment system is similar. I went with Carlinkit from Amazon.
My only minor quibble is the Answer/Hangup buttons do not work. Wired works just fine so it’s wireless that is the issue (at least on my car).
The only other advice I’ve read here is don’t update unless you absolutely have too. Seems people have bricked theirs. I think even their support recommends the same.
I bought this adapter on Amazon for my 2020 Honda Insight. It works well. I have had it for over a year and only a few times it has not connected my phone to CarPlay. I had to restart my car to get it working correctly, but remember that has happened only a handful of times since I owned it.
There is a newer version of this CarPlay adapter.

Sorry my hand is in the way, it’s a screenshot from a video. It has a few different styles but largely this is how they all look with some different colours. Issues include not being able to changes km to miles and not being able to change the date order.
Agama is quite customisable but if you don’t like the general design of it then I don’t think it’s for you as it largely is about customising the different aspects of that specific design.
The good thing is as it’s just Android you can use any launcher you want. I’ve been tempted to create something bespoke with Nova launcher and KLWP but I pretty much exclusively use mine for CarPlay so it’s not on my priority list right now.
This Atoto S8 single din should fit since you seem to have plenty of room on either side and above the current radio. 8-inch screen with wireless Carplay.
I bought this exact one from Amazon. So far it’s still been awesome! I can’t imagine what the more expensive ones do that this little thing doesn’t already do.
I purchased Ottocast Wireless CarPlay Adapter since it had a $30 off coupon at the time AND it’s through Amazon so I’m not jumping through hoops for a return if I need.
Had some mega-headaches yesterday, but so far today it’s been perfect. From the car off to connected to CarPlay it’s about 35 seconds, which is approximately 6-7s faster than it takes to just connect the car to bluetooth and play music or have it recognize my phone over USB and launch CarPlay, so overall it’s not too slow. There’s sometimes a delay when changing tracks but so far (after I fixed it yesterday) that’s my only issue.

I gonna advocate for something on here that many people are gonna hate.
Get one of those fully integrated android head units .
ONLY IF
You plan on using CarPlay exclusively.
These head units are terrible radios and pretty much useless for any of the “android functions”
But as a CarPlay unit, I have installed them in both my Camry and my wifes Enclave and have had nearly 0 issues with them.
But we use them 100% for CarPlay and nothing else.
Your not gonna get the best audio quality either.
However bang for you buck they can’t be beat.
They fully integrate, no wire harness or anything. Just remove old add in new.
I do recommend get a more powerful brand, but here is an example one.

No, Apple does not have a "CarPlay view" feature for your phone. You'll either need to replace your car stereo, or add an aftermarket screen to connect your phone to that works with CarPlay- something like this: (noting that I haven't used anything like this myself, so can't vouch for it)

I bought one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0982PHL9G and it was perfect for about 6 months. The length, very short when coiled, neat and tidy and black to be invisible in truck interior and out of the way. Long enough to occasionally pull the phone close and use it. Car Play started to get spotty after 6 months so I wrote to the Amazon seller and they immediately apologized and refunded my money. They said their next batch will be more sturdy and last longer for car play, so I'm inclined to purchase from them again. BUT, I need something now. Anybody have a good suggestion for a 1' (when coiled) black car-play compatible cable? Thanks
Don’t have that head unit but I’ve been using this with my factory stereo for over a year with basically no issues. The only small hiccup I’ve had is that occasionally my phone doesn’t auto connect, if I quickly unplug and reply in the adapter my phone connects in about 15 seconds when that happens.
Don’t have the same head unit but I would think that if it supports CarPlay you should probably be fine. I have been using the CarPlay2Air adapter for almost 2 years now and it was fine but there was some delay. Didn’t really notice it on phone calls but just responsiveness and lip sync on videos. Well it dies recently after an update and the company basically said they can’t help so I ordered an Ottocast off of Amazon. So far so good but one thing that I immediately noticed was how quickly it connected. I have only had it a few days but it is working great and it was about half the price I paid originally for the CPlay2Air which I also had to wait a couple weeks for it to arrive from China.

This is just a clone of the Ottocast U2 Air adapter. See here. I would get it from Amazon if you plan on buying it because of the easy return process if it doesn't work for you.
Get the carlinkit wireless dongle. It still has a USB port on it to do wired carplay and you of course can do wireless carplay. Theres a few different carlinkit dongles, some are specifically for certain cars factory radios. The one you need for android is this one

If you don't have media controls on the steering wheel, don't you have them on the headunit itself? Another thing you could do a bluetooth media remote like below , but your headunit should have volume buttons or track buttons?

I bought this for my 2010 Ford Escape because the default location for mounting a normal CarPlay replacement was way too low, by my standards; it rests a bit below and a bit above my dashboard. I haven't tried to work out the cable management, but I think that if I were going to do it again, I'd probably pay extra for the wireless version. Maybe. My thinking at the time was "I'm going to have two cables running down my dashboard already, so what's one more?" Also, it turns out I have another port in my vehicle for charging the iPhone, so I'm not really giving up anything by not plugging my phone into the unit.
I was wondering that myself - based on the ports in the left it may be this. Never heard of these before today!
I'm using SA102 Starter and the wired carplay is perfect. Also bought this dongle, before 5 days and it works amazing. Plug and play with minimal or no lag at all.
Not yet but I will try again later.

Yeah thats the one! I got it in September of 2021, heres the link - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08V53NQPT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's the same one, this just hast a backup camera included, but it's that same boss be10acp
I second this! I got myself a Carlinkit wireless CarPlay adapter ( which you can get here) for my 2021 RAV4 hybrid I picked up last week before Christmas and I'll never go back to wired.
I found it having some odd problems where it would randomly drop out its connection, but I found that mounting it outside of the center dash has made this problem practically go away.
Along with that, I'd say get a dash/windshield mountable wireless charger too.
Yes, it seemed to have fixed it. Here is the link to the updated one if you’d like to consider it was well: KOODEA Wireless Carplay & Android Auto,Wireless Mirroring 7 Inch IPS Touchscreen Car Radio Receiver with Mic, Bluetooth, WiFi, FM, GPS Navigation(2022 Upgraded) (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09MT9CJBM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_3BDP46421FDKC7PBY102
I got the carplay2air couple years ago for my accord, had issues and then a firmware update bricked it and I just can't be bothered to do the 84 screen long procedure to resurrect it.
Then ordered the new Carlinkit from Amazon for my CRV and it's been great, no real complaints. Seems more stable.
This particular one is this. When I bought it there was a coupon taking it down to $200 so if that isn’t available to you I’d wait and see if the price goes down.
Plus, as you can see, I’m having difficulties getting support from them as of this point. So, proceed with caution! 😂
Carlinkit 2.0 comes with the same WiFi onboard (my max listed transmission rate is 866Mbps), and as I stated on their official site it literally says they are the same hardware. I wouldn’t trust what Aliexpress says. I bought the 2.0 from Amazon about 2 years ago, updated it, and it has their “newer UI” (although you hardly ever see it) and definitely reads that it’s 3.0 now that it’s updated
2.0 and 3.0 hardware is the same. Just try to connect and repeatedly try to update it even if it says no update available. Read the top review here titled “Read this! Set up required” by robaroo. It may help you to get yours updated. Good luck.

Not sure if someone posted this or not, but Apple has a running list of all manufacturers and model year with car play. It is updated regularly, i.e. when Ford retroactively added it older cars, it was updated

Yes. I had that problem often on my iPhone 12 Pro. Solved it 100 % by switching from official Apple Cable to a short 1’ Anker cable. Very high quality and completely eliminates connectivity issues.
Anker Powerline+ II Lightning Cable (1ft), MFi Certified for Flawless Compatibility with iPhone 11 / XS/XS Max/XR/X / 8/8 Plus / 7/7 Plus / 6/6 Plus / 5 / 5S and More(Black)
I think I might have stumbled across the answer to my own question. Sygic GPS Navigation. Just tested in on my commute home. Has traffic and pinned locations (favourites) show on map. Says it has speed cameras as well but there are none on my regular way home so I haven't seen that functionality.
Try with a smaller capacity drive <32GB formatting it with SD Association's SD Card Formatter utility.
Also insert the drive only after the LED turns solid red.
No problem! Best of luck to you.
BTW, you said you had a 2020 Mirage? According to Apple’s website, that model should have carplay. Unless you bought a base version that doesn’t have it, it may be worth going to your dealer and asking if there’s an issue or some step you need to activate it. It could be your car has multiple USB ports and there’s a specific one you need to plug into. Try plugging into different ones. There may be one under your stereo and one in or around your centre console.
List of models (US): https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/available-models/
EDIT: If you’re in the US, it looks like the ES model doesn’t have it. You need a higher trim.
According to https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-14-preview/features/ :
>Horizontal status bar
>
>Cars with portrait screens can have the status bar on the bottom of the CarPlay screen, allowing for wider app views and a more natural layout.
Any idea about the feature? Have you managed to find it?
Looks like this is will be possible with iOS 13, but it's up to the car makers ti implement it:
>Second video stream support
>
>Automakers can develop CarPlay systems that show information in a second screen, such as in a cluster or HUD
Google music is in that list, but I agree Sygic isn't, so the list must not be fully maintained?
Update: I kept wondering why I didnt see Pandora and dont see Pandora in the appstore, (its not in Canada) and that link is the Canadian one! Apparently they region filter even on these types of pages, so the US one has Pandora ... https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/ -- and has Baidu .... but still no Sygic
