Thanks for the info. I do some graphic design stuff for work, but it's kind of just a job I got tossed into. I've actually gotten pretty technically skilled with Illustrator, Photoshop, etc., and I could reproduce a lot of the art I like to a reasonable degree, but my own work is a little lackluster. Everything I make for work is totally competent and adequate but it rarely stands out in any way.

I know there's no shortcut or simple solution to that, but I'm wondering if you have a suggestion for resources that would point me in the right direction. Those books look solid, and Thinking with Type definitely looks like something I'm going to pick up. Any suggestion for which of the others I should pick up first, or if maybe I should be going a different direction (I wonder about an actual formal education, or at least some MOOC-type classes)?
