The Irony is that out of context Steinbeck quote that all the edgelords bring up actually has a great shot at these types of people:
>Except for the field organizers of strikes, who were pretty tough monkeys and devoted, most of the so-called Communists I met were middle-class, middle-aged people playing a game of dreams. I remember a woman in easy circumstances saying to another even more affluent: 'After the revolution even we will have more, won't we, dear?' Then there was another lover of proletarians who used to raise hell with Sunday picknickers on her property.
Alongside can mean "together with", and Nazi Germany and the USSR absolutely fought together against Poland.
I am not a native English speaker, and I am very confused with your objection against my "geography", maybe there is a nuance in the language that I can't get?
> Economics in One Lesson -Henry Hazlitt
hahahaha I can laugh along with the mocking of tankies here but what is with the objectively stupid libertarian shit here today? Hazlitt basically says markets are perfect and the greatest tool humans have ever come up with, the end. No mention of how property rights initially get distributed (often by violence and genocide), market failure, etc. It's like ECON 101 if you actually think that perfectly describes the real world.
I thought it was "If you're not a social democrat with 20, you have no heart, but if you are not a conservative with 50, you have no brain", but apparently it originally was something inbetween:
"A young man who isn't a socialist hasn't got a heart; an old man who is a socialist hasn't got a head."
Though this seems to exist as well:
"My son is 22 years old. If he had not become a Communist at 22, I would have disowned him. If he is still a Communist at 30, I will do it then."
"Democracy is fascism."
Listen trotiskist-Maoist-stalinists-leninists-marxist, if love China so much here is a groupon course for 25 dollars you can go there and teach english! You do jackshit and continue your life being a bum, and join the rank and file of the aging sexpats that refuse to growup. Make sure you shave your head, they will collect hair samples for drug testing.
If you are AngloAsian, you better off staying in your white supremacist country.
It's hilarious how Commies treat the recent shift towards the left as a trend that will continue. Gen Z (Centennials) is much more fiscally conservative than millenials, like it's an absolutely huge difference.
I'm sortve in the grey area between generations (1997) but even among my peers it's remarkable how many of them will openly mock the socialists and Bernie-bros of the previous generation.
Demographic information of centennials suggest they are much more responsible, and have much more realistic expectations of what to expect from the world. https://www.slideshare.net/mobile/futuresco/meet-the-centennials
The Wealth of Nations is pretty good at being criticizing some faults of capitalism while still actually being pro-capitalist. Rather than a direct rebuttal of communism, it's an alternative to communism.
Karl Marx, racist https://www.amazon.com/dp/0870004484/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_miv0Fb8ZYEN67 there’s also this book from Nathaniel Weyl who refers to documents and conversations between Marx and Engels.
I was walking near a bog the other day and some mosquitoes started flying towards my ear. The buzzing sounded like "Taxxxxattttioonnn izzz thheffftttt..."
Then I went to my bio class and we examined some plasmodium. When I examined them under the microscope they were all reading microscopic copies of The Wealth of Nations. Maybe this video is correct after all.
Exactly! Why are we supposed to give them an assist here?
Richard Spencer, Stephen Miller, Milo Yiannopolis, and other prominent white supremacists go out of their way to take photos of themselves making the sign. Those posts get tons of traction among actual, self-identified white supremacists. Then, any time it's called out, they go "Ha ha! We're just trolling and you fell for it!"
Except the only people being duped are the "enlightened rationalists" who actually buy that. Seriously, why is it so goddamn easy to manipulate these humorless logic-fetishists? None of this is remotely new. This is how cults, new religions, and fascist movements have always worked: ascribing new meanings to established symbols. Shit, the Nazis reappropriated the swastika and the iron cross and the alt-right already successfully adopted Pepe the Frog, like 2 years ago.
Is it universally a hate sign, like the Nazi salute? Fucking, of course not. Has it been adopted and perpetuated by white supremacists? Fucking, obviously.
Even the ADL article in the post you're replying to acknowledges that "it still seems primarily intended to trigger or troll people on the left and cause them to react, although some white supremacists have also used it—generally jokingly—among themselves."
https://www.amazon.com/Jewish-Question-Karl-Marx/dp/138971943X/ <- I'd call it "the most unfortunately named book ever" but... well, his views certainly are interesting and I'm not just talking about the obvious antisemitism.
> It's not Bezos' responsability to give people more than they ask for. Yeah everything that he does is legal, he has no legal obligation to pay his employees a living wage, nor to pay more taxes than he's asked for. I said it is hypocritical, not illegal. It's a double standard to not judge him negatively for what he does for his job and then judge him positevely for doing charity.
Also my friend, you are really cynical saying that people willingly choose to live of foodstamps, working 60 hours a week and that Jeff Bezos should just ignore it.
>Just so you know, there is a difference between avoidance and evasion. From the Cambridge Dictionary dictionary "To evade: to avoid or escape from someone or something", although I prefer the Oxford Dictionary's definition: "Escape or avoid (someone or something), especially by guile or trickery", that I think really fits in this case.
No. The great reset rhetoric was rolled out with it's central attraction: covid-19.
We are undergoing a globalist putsch - titled "Build Back Better" or "The Great Reset".
Read this: https://www.amazon.com/COVID-19-Great-Reset-Klaus-Schwab/dp/2940631123
It is a eco-terrorist screed and list of terroristic demands and threats, much like the rest of public policy since 2020 has been.
They actually think that being a good samaritan and sharing meals with friends is a socialist thing to do.
I mean they're just crazy. And no, rednecks and Christians and the like don't believe them to be socialists compared to non-Christians, as it clearly evidenced by the poll itself!
From what I hear this is an excellent debunking of the "Jesus is a Socialist" narrative: https://www.amazon.com/Was-Jesus-Socialist-Question-Answer/dp/1610171608
Did you get it from this Michael Knowles book?
It is unfortunate that so many have unconsciously internalized the left propaganda. For all those wishing to deprogram themselves. This might be a first step.

> > Fascism does indeed have socialist roots
There is the "scavenger ideology" aspect common in that type of constellation of thought, but militantly communitarian may be closer to the roots ("Germany's Gentile" Heidegger comes to mind). This seems like an eccentric take but may be worth checking out:
>No, you're just being deliberately obtuse.
Yes. To a person who expresses support to another person with a lot of anti-social attitudes and who called me a "pathetic communist[s]" in the first place.
>That's not what pragmatism means.
Proves that you're clearly biased. Good job.
>You insulted HIM and claimed to be civil, there's every reason to criticise that.
I didn't insult him nor his existence. I insulted his offensive ways of talking to me and to others in questionable alt-right subs.
>I said "smarmy".
Then it's better for me to be smarmy with this unproductive attitude of yours.
> Sorry but I'm not smart enough to understand your point due to how exceptionally irrelevant your point is. Keep circling for my amusement, please.
No, you're just being deliberately obtuse.
> I guess you're not that pragmatic enough to read between the lines.
That's not what pragmatism means.
> You defending a person who directly insulted me, as well as nasty accusation about me, in the first place doesn't make you a saint.
You insulted HIM and claimed to be civil, there's every reason to criticise that.
> You're wrong on one thing. I'm not smart.
I said "smarmy".
>And who cares? Terrible policies inspired by socialism wrecked Venezuela. The sad states of affairs there is a result of socialism, the political movement.
My point is that Venezuela isn't socialism, they could have been inspired by anything, being inspired by socialism and going on to make a social democracy is not socialism, it's social democracy. Also most of the things that have wrecked Venezuela are due to capitalism, for example look at all of the sanctions and embargoes, their economy is entirely based on oil and just a few months before the economy tanked the USA requested that the Saudi government create more oil fields.

>LOL. Yes, that is why Cubans flee to Mexico, Brazil, etc.
Do you even know where brazil is located on the map? It doesn't stretch out to the northern coast, there's Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana all in the way of getting from Cuba to Brazil, you're completely making this shit up.

>Because they use "socialism" and "communism" just for a tool to hold power, not implement policies based on it on the economy. There are plenty of articles showing communists in China disappearing or going to jail for... defending socialist economical policies there.
No they don't, they are socialist. Watch this video that explains Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, or you can read "Marxism and Socialism with Chinese Characteristics" by Jin Huiming.

That is simply not true. The ones committing war crimes here are the ones firing 3700 rockets at population centers, also known as the internationally recognized terror groups Hamas and PIJ. Defending yourself against them is not a warcrime, even if it leads to collateral damage. And btw, explain how 'genocide' led to the highest life expectancy for Arabs in the Middle East being in the West Bank. How did 'genocide' lead to the population boom in Gaza? How did it lead to the establishment of universities in the West Bank which weren't there when it was still part of Jordan?
>I fully support the state of Israel existing.
Okay, but you don't tho. You support groups who call for 'the liberation of Palestine from the river to the sea', aka: remove 7 million Jews. Fyi, read the PLO charter from 1964, article 24: "This organization does not exercise any territorial sovereignty over the West Bank in the Hashemite kingdom of Jordan, on the Gaza strip or in the Himmah area." You can exactly see what the PLO wants: not Jordanian territory, not Egyptian territory, but Israeli territory. And they still want that, although they now claim that the territories they previously excluded from their scope are now all of a sudden their homeland. Curious, ey, why would they do that if their goal was a land of themselves? Exactly, the goal has never been to establish their own state, but to annihilate the Jewish one. (they rejected all proposals so far, even the one giving them nearly 100% of Gaza and the West Bank done by Ehud Olmert in 2008) That is what advocating for Palestine really means.
Planting cereal crops next to each other in order to channel the proletariat solidarity of wheat probably didn't help much.
Thanks for asking! Anarchists are rightfully skeptical of major technological advancements like AI under statism and capitalism, as while they can potentially lead to improvements in medical care and such, increasingly often they are used by corporations like google to invade the lives of people, or by states like China with their "social credit" system.
The common anarchist position is that technology reflects the system it was created under. If a technology was created to serve capitalism and the state, then that's exactly the function it will serve. Meanwhile if a technology was created under a stateless, classless society without unjust hieriarchies then it won't have to conform to such designs.
But assuming we are in an anarchistic society and an AI was created as a government surrogate but purely with the intention of serving the will of the people with no ulterior motives, what would an anarchist think of that?
As somebody who leans somewhat heavily into the transhumanist side of things, I think it would be unnecessary. The world is getting more and more complicated, sure, but anarchists want to segment society into far more manageable chunks. I think individuals voluntarily associating with one another could be more than capable of managing themselves.
Plus there's no getting around the fact that a "benevolent" dictator will still be seen as a dictator.
That's just my view of course, if you're interested, you could go to the /r/anarchotranshumanist sub and ask a question, be aware though that it's hardly a hive of activity. You could also look into some of the links on their sidebar which may go into more detail on this topic. Or you could also go to https://theanarchistlibrary.org/special/index and search for topics related to "transhumanism", "AI", etc.
Hope this helps!
Exactly I quit teaching never looked back. They got mad at me for refusing to strike, because the school asked for an extra 14 minutes if class time a day.
Not only does their pay increase, but they get a great retirement and then go double dip in another state.
And the PISA scores show they absolutely suck, like generally teachers are crap and should be liable for any student that they graduate that can’t perform at least at the 11th grade level.
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/03/us/us-students-international-test-scores.html
The principal at the local school asked me if I was interested in teaching math. I asked if I could fail any student that doesn’t reach grade level. Nope, I had to jumó through hoops, so even if he failed a standardized math test, I couldn’t fail him. I passed on it. They wonder why they are short 2 math teachers and ended up just having General teachers cover it and the math class is taught online. Still can’t fail them if they don’t do the work, it blows my mind.
Public schools should be shut down, give the parents the money and let them decide on a school, let charter schools compete.

Karl Marx, racist https://www.amazon.com/dp/0870004484/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_tul8FbJ16547T the only thing I have is this compilation of journals and notes from Marx and Engels. The book was put together by a former communist party member.
I know exactly what you are talking about. Its hard to make that kind of assessment.
Tangential, i just finished Implacable Foes. Those authors postulate that the last stands were part of a calculated strategy to slow the American advance and up the bodycount to bring the US to negotiating table. Which the authors reckon was successful given the US immense trepidation at the invasion and last minute step-back from unconditional surrender.
Food for thought.
Yeltsin wanted to, but GHW Bush said they shouldn’t. He made it out to be a big misunderstanding, instead of the tyrannical ideology that repeatedly committed mass murder.
This book outlines how the Western politicians didn’t even want the KGB to open their archives and why only some of it has been released. She has a lot of foot notes, which is an interesting deep dive including how fellow travelers got Canadian Uranium to Stalin to help him build his atomic bomb through Grand Falls and the Lend Lease Program
