D3, the main javaScript library I'm using, is created for data visualization and has some build-in functions to animate data. I did not use this possibility a lot, but with this population bars animation looks really good. And thanks for d3 creators, it's just a few lines of code. So it will not take a lot of time to add animation to some other layers, but I'm not sure if benefits are sufficient when there is a bunch of 'core' functions now working properly. I will wait for your feedback and decide whether I should add more animations or it can wait for some months.
Based on that screenshot, it looks like it currently has a .map extension. Your computer/device just thinks that it is a .txt file (probably because that's the application it was associated with).
In order to use the .map, you can open it in the Fantasy Map Generator. Open that link, then click the pop-out menu on the left and choose Load at the bottom of the menu. Navigate to the directory where the file is saved, and click it and then click the Open button, and the file should open, if we did everything right.
Good luck!
This a map of the world of the Avatar: the Last Airbender show. Due to the constantly changing borders of this world, this particular map is that of the world at the moment of Sokka and Katara finding Aang in the iceberg during the first episode.
There are a lot of generated burgs, rivers, routes and notes that I haven't changed or removed because it would be too much time to effectively amount to nothing spectacular. Places that were visited are named as they are on the show's wiki, with notes that describe them.
I might add a bunch of markers later on.
This sub is specifically for this generator: https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/
Your map is cool but doesn't fit the sub. Maybe you could try recreating it in the program and posting that?
Hello,
You bring up some good points and I thank you for them. Every bit helps! I
My question was more in regards to the nature of the data being generated rather than what I can do with it afterwards. I wanted to understand if there was a reason behind the generator, well, generating a port burg upriver, but not a port burg downriver. Now that I know that not everything generated should be taken at face value, I will take a closer look at all that's been generated and adjust things accordingly.
It's plausible to do manually using the JavaScript console since the generator runs clientside (even when accessing https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/). My tutorial, which Avengium helpfully linked to, does not handle seasons. It essentially does nothing extra beyond what the generator already simulates, however.
I am definitely interesting in experimenting with JavaScript to see if it would be possible to do a rough simulation of seasonal variation. I too, find the current biome simulation too limited for my needs. If I do manage to achieve this, I'll be sure to share it as I have my previous code.
I can verify that it is dependent on the individual’s PC. I upgraded my PC and now have 16Gb of RAM. This made a huge difference in the time it takes to download. Also, as Azgarr stated, saving a .svg file and using a program to save it is a viable option. Inkscape is a free editor that you may want to check out. https://inkscape.org
Mind if I ask how soon? I was hoping to use one with a lot of POI's for a new D&D campaign I'm starting in like 2 and a half days.
This is the right website, isn't it? https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/
Someone linked me to it so maybe the reason it didn't work is I using the wrong site or an old version or something? idk
The file is very old. So you are correct, it can be open only in https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator-old
But it looks it also require an older version on browser to work correctly. You can try with something from 2018.
I think you should be able to do all of that with this tool. I think he just added military as well so you can have custom wars and even units/armies and battle events show up on the map.
You should try to save as .map - it's the best option.
Regarding the missing map, you need to use the same website, so if you use https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator and then used a local copy, it will be stored in two different places.

For Chrome, it stores the map as a file on disk. For example, I found mine under C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\IndexedDB\https_azgaar.github.io_0.indexeddb.blob\1\00.
I would browse to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\IndexedDB\ (you can paste that into an Explorer window at the top), and look there for something like https_azgaar.github.io... - the largest file there is most likely the map. You can just copy it out, rename it to .map and load it back into the FMG to check.
What is the address showing at the top?
If it's giving an error about findBurg, then you've bookmarked a URL after using the MFCG (Medieval Fantasy City Generator) and the FMG is looking for a referrer. You need to bookmark the normal website ( https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/ )
I haven't looked into it yet.
I looked at the erosion code once and it was complicated.
You can generate the same map over and over if you lock the template and pass the seed - here I'm zooming in to a specific spot as well. https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/?seed=1&x=200&y=200&scale=5
Save the map, load it, compare to a new one in another window.
However, I think you should wait till I can go through the code - maps shouldn't be changing between save/load.
As you probably know the same seed will provide the same map only if options, map size and code base is the same. I've changed the logic in order to ignore options stored on user's side if seed is defined as a part of URL. It should make the way seed works more predictable.
Going further, I've added two new parameters: width and height. Having these 3 parameters provided, the URL should produce the same map for all users/machines uness the code is changed (usually once a week or month) or error is occured.
Here is the map for URL https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/?seed=12345678&width=1000&height=500.
Please open it and let me know whether you got generally the same map (style can be different) or nor.
It depends on the version. As far as I know, if your map was made after the 0.59b release, and up to and including 0.61b, you can open it in https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator-old/ .
You can only bring the land shape (and heights) over to the newer version. States, cultures, burgs, etc. have to be recreated.
Please let me know if you can open it in the link posted above and I can give the instructions on moving the heightmap/landmass over.
It depends on the version. If it's v0.61b or earlier version, it cannot be loaded in newer Generator versions. Use https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator-old/ for these maps.
