Ah wow, Google Play and all the apk mirror sites still only has 4.4.1 available here. Would you mind extracting the apk with something like titanium backup or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ext.ui to share it? I'm waiting for the update to release a new version of my extended version on the app!
There is a free version. It won't allow exporting advanced features to a smartwatch, but one can still play with them and take a screenshot, if that's the goal.
Happy to help! But please start here first. You'll need to get the auth key for your watch, which is easiest to do with u/coronafire 's modded app.
It's not in the list of supported devices (https://gadgetbridge.org/ scroll down a tad) but I imagine (take with a grain of salt) that if it's more or less the same watch, it should probably work. But I haven't looked at the code, I have no proof that it would(n't) work. Just an assumption.
Also, I totally forgot weather setup - you need an api key and another app to interface with GB. It's... It works, but it's not intuitive to get going. I can explain if you want.
As long as weather keeps working, and you aren't seeking more privacy, the fossil/modded app is the way to go. I dig this techy stuff, and I'm still like 'ugh'. But it's there, and it works, I've been running it myself since I posted this topic; it's just convenience (during setup) goes out the window.
Nice! I love that watch. If you want a comfy watch strap option as an alternative to the link bracelet, I got this one a few days ago and it's been fantastic:
https://www.amazon.com/Wornikoff-Premium-NATO-Watch-Strap/dp/B07ZQVP3VY
I don't use the heartrate sensor though, which this type of strap covers up.
I replaced the buckle on my stainless steel Collider with the one from this Fossil one. It's a bit pricy though; I was luck enough to grab it when it was on sale for $35.
There seemed to be an app called Fossil Q Legacy once upon a time, but link is dead and app is taken off the store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fossil.qlegacy That one was for first gen Q watches.
Don't know if there's any trustworthy mirror for it.
Yes, you should be able to do that with tasker. I have been using tasker for several years and don't remember how I first learned. I think it was mostly trial and error before I started to get a feel for the design philosophy and how things worked. Here are a few resources:
A 36mm tempered glass will work. I used this one on my Skagen and it fits with a tiny gap. 37mm might be perfect but I'd seen some folks saying it was too big.

It's a awesome watch tbh easy to fix to. Fossil Men's Neutra Hybrid Smartwatch HR with Always-On Readout Display & Heart Rate & Activity Tracking & Smartphone Notifications & Message Previews https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KTVWV1V/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_Y0JD5YWK209MSGQ41598?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The watch isn't hard to take apart. It's pop on pop off type of thing. Because the glass cracked, it was easy to take the glass out, just needed to break the glass lol. It's a top Pop in glass. I used a thin flat head screwdriver to pop the rim off. Because I don't have a press, the glass is not in fully so I don't know if it's water resistant. Tbh never even put it in the water or near it. Here's the link to the Sapphire glass. It's Chinese. Because of that, that's the reason why I don't know if it is real Sapphire or not. It looks like it because of the way it destorts light. New Thickness 1.0mm/1.2mm/1.5mm/2.0mm Single Dome Sapphire Watch Glass Crystal 20.5-40mm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HJ7KCGB/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_SBRSHH240KN08QNTJ9ZF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Thank you very much! I was not aware about the auth key.
If anyone else finds his way here, the wiki can be found here.
Easiest solution to retrieve the key:
- Install the unofficial enhanced app
- go to "Profile"
- Open the settings of your watch and copy the password
Password should start with 0x
I know you said no textiles, but I still have to suggest this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZQVM6QR
I got one, and it's the classiest looking, most comfortable nylon strap I've ever used, and I've used a lot of them. It's softer and smoother with a much tighter weave than your run-of-the-mill NATO. And the actual color of the strap is a bit less brown toned than the example photos would suggest.
I did it, when looking why I had a sync issue: installing a previous version of the app did flash a different firmware when repairing the watch. GadgetBridge also advizes downgrading when using their app, so it's definitely possible.
I don't know, since I am in no way affiliated with them.
You can check the development status of gadgetbridge regarding the fossil hybrid hr here:
https://codeberg.org/Freeyourgadget/Gadgetbridge/wiki/Fossil-Hybrid-HR
These are the only instructions I know of: https://github.com/Freeyourgadget/Gadgetbridge/wiki/Fossil-Hybrid-HR#using-gadgetbridge

I haven't actually tried it myself recently.
It works the same way as the Tasker projects: looking for a log message like ".*commuteTimeInMinute.*CALENDAR.*"
I put one on my HR Collider: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0813P2Y75/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_1SN809M0VMVMQMY2FMRC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Unlike a lot of other reviewers I had no problem at all getting it installed. It's completely transparent and you have to look hard to see it.
A lot of people leave bad reviews on Amazon but it really works for me. I just like the extra layer of protection.
StrapsCo bands have worked pretty well for me - they're one of very few with quick-release 12mm bands (I like switching up my straps to match my outfit), and come in a variety of colors and lengths.
Those bands do default to silver hardware, so I just bought a couple of 10mm gold buckles and replaced them myself (not 12 - the band tapers at the buckle end). Both gold and rose gold buckles were similar but neither was a perfect match for the gold of my Monroe. I went with gold because it seemed just a touch closer to the right color.
This is the one that I got after buying a cheaper brand that sucked royally. The one I have now is amazing, I actually thought I peeled it off on accident during install because it fit so perfectly. I have to try very hard to notice it and it hasn't taken on any scratches or signs of wear (I wear it for everything).
I highly recommend it. The only downside is that it's a pack of 1, so you only get one chance.
Yes! I have a Collider and a Charter (two different screens!). I got these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0813P2Y75/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_E88Y4GEXJAWK2ZP7P7Y2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
They work perfectly on both! They're a little hard to line up properly which is why there are 6 but they've saved my screens. I've smashed and scratched the shit out of these protectors and the protectors are still in perfect condition and so is the screen.
Keep in mind that the screens are curved so regular screen protectors with 9H hardness won't work.
Do not wear this watch swimming. It's water resistant, not water proof.
That said, I got this band for working out and I really like it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GFF7WZ9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_fxj9FbE5P39DX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I've had this for over a year now. I still feel every vibration. I had to make little cuts in the original band to get the metal pieces out so I could attach the watch to this band. But no regrets.
Hi /u/coronafire, not sure how to contact you quicker than this but I was wondering:
Is it possible to add something to your package to automatically update the wallpaper at certain intervals/events?
Basically I was thinking it might be possible to add some agenda functionality to this watch by making the wallpaper something like Sectograph, showing the coming x hours of events as a grayscale pie chart. This chart would be an auto-generated image on the phone and then uploaded to the watch. Updates would only need to happen every x minutes or whenever a change in a synced calendar is detected. Might even add some more triggers and info through Tasker or so.
I don't have the watch so I cannot experiment with it, but if this could be done I might consider buying one and try implementing this myself, seems a great watch if not for these kind of limitations.
Your post made me review this topic again (I had sort of given up on it), and it seems like OSMand ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.osmand ) actually works quite well with the Fossil hybrid without the need for tasker or any add-on.
It's a free app, and based on open street maps. Might just do the job until Fossil integrates a Google Maps connection into the app...
Mm! The fix for that is Dialer for Rebble. Because the services for pebble have been cut since the purchase of them by Fitbit you have to use this alternative. The app gives more instructions on how to set it up to work properly.
BUT, knowing what you mean by notifications from Numbers by Google, you should get the whole call vibrations like that of the standard call. I get the same response from Duo when I get a call.
Yep same issue - Pixel 3, Android 10.
I installed LightBlue https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.punchthrough.lightblueexplorer from the Play store to diagnose further. When watch disconnected and I ran up LightBlue, it popped up a splash screen saying something like "Bluetooth broken, only way to fix is to reboot phone" - I cant remember the exact words now.
If it does it again, I'll grab a screenshot.
In the meantime, have a go at installing LightBlue and see if the same happens for you
I had the same problem with mine, and no, they don't make half links. I contacted Fossil support to ask. What I ended up doing is buying this when it was on sale: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G33F1JR/
It's the same color as the collider, and the links are the same size. The clasp is different, however, so I swapped it with the clasp in my collider band. The difference in clasp size ended up making the band just about perfect for me.
Thanks, this post motivated me to measure my watch (Fossil Collider HR) and buy a glass screen protector for it. It looks to be 37mm, but it could be 37.5mm.
This listing has 37mm: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MZMZHGH/
The Fossil Gen 5 Carlyle HR appears to be 37.5mm in case that's the right size (probably makes more sense for Fossil to use the same size across multiple watches), but I ordered the 37mm size since 37.5mm seems like it would be slightly too big.
Sure!
Took a few applications to take the scratch out but it worked like a charm. Took about an hour to take out the scratch.
The number of quick release levers on each side doesn’t matter, as far as compatibility is concerned. Any 22mm Fossil strap (of any material) that they sell separately should fit just fine on the FB-01.
And for straps included with the watches, number of levers per side is actually not model-specific: - smoke/gunmetal Collider band has 2 per side - silicone strap I assume is the same one included with the FB-01 “silicone” version, has only 1 per side (Amazon link since Fossil’s site didn’t have a pic to show this)
I also have an FB-01 and primarily use Fossil’s [single lever] steel mesh/Milanese strap. If you happen to be eyeing those in your search, I’d highly recommend it.
TL;DR - The straps will work, go for it!
I got this one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/EACHE-Genuine-Leather-Replacement-Straps/dp/B073FBYFNR
It hasn't rubbed too bad, but time will tell. Also, if you get some curved spring pins, it can help a lot.
I don’t have this exact one (the listings don’t stick around on amazon for too long), but I have something like this and I like it a lot! Basically the Apple Watch sport loop with regular 22mm pins.
https://www.amazon.com/WNIPH-Compatible-Lightweight-Breathable-Replacement/dp/B07XLLYMFZ/
I've used these on all my watches and love em, price has gone up though. I've bought 3 and one of them has some stitching come loose but Amazon exchanged it no problem.
These are similar but with quick release pins on Amazon. Hello,
The app url is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.applisto.appcloner but it seems like it has been removed from the store... Maybe you can do the same thing with another app.
