Ooh, this is beautiful! I went through the entire picture set and downloaded all of them to use as wallpapers.
Then I figured I'd upload all 39 of them to dropbox, and share 'em here, if any of you are interested. They can be downloaded as a .zip file under the "download" tab on the top right. These are incredibly high quality images.
Something I find stunning: colors seem to change in grandient patterns, due to the smoothness of transitions in water depth; elevation; sediment/geological features; vegetation; moisture; etc. You can often see multiple different "fractal" images weaving through each other in a single picture, depending on which colors/patterns are focused on.
Pov-Ray, The Persistence of Vision Ray Tracer was used to do this rendering. Ultra Fractal was used to generate the Mandelbrot image used in Pov-Ray to create the scenery. The Quaternion Julia is a function built-in to Pov-Ray.
Thanks. It's 2D, I made it on my phone with Fraksl. I think the dev comments here from time to time.

I meant to put it through some filters first but didn't get around to it. This is straight out of the app.
The machine was a gift funnily enough, a 2006 Dell Poweredge 1950 server with 2 3ghz quad core processors. It's a bit of a beast! http://www.cnet.com/products/dell-poweredge-1950-server-xeon-5050-3ghz-1gb-ram-80gb-hdd/specs/
for those that were like me and went, "no fucking way"

Thank you!
I made the original fractal with Apophysis7x & I used PyTorch (a python library for neural networks) for Style Transfer.
I trained several custom styles, but there are Style Transfer apps that you can use out of the box, like prisma
