Or just keep it simple and get a body fat caliper it can be used weekly in home, i found an electronic one for $11. If your gym has a body comp machine that's a good alternative
I don't want to sound rude, but:
> Secondly, keto causes low energy [and therefore strength loss] even when you're NOT using it to cut.
No friend.
Yes, low energy (more so, as lethargy) may happen to some (not all) people when they begin a ketogenic diet. This is called the "keto flu" - and it is mostly due to electrolyte imbalances. If you supplement with adequate sodium, potassium, and magnesium, this subsides quite quickly. And, once fat adapted, this is not a big thing. Most people who get past this flu feel energized all throughout the day, hunger and cravings may be lowered, and this is why also people can stick with this diet, as it makes achieving a caloric deficit easier for a lot of persons.
> Stubborn keto fanboys can deny it all they want, but it's a simple fact that you need carbs for energy for anything more than low-intensity cardio.
I politely disagree here. , Fat is what? You get energy from fat. Keto is an adequate protein, low carb, high fat diet.
Little example, I bodybuild and powerlift on keto, and my workouts use lots of volume and weight.
Honest question, have you actually and properly done a ketogenic diet?
But, really, let's not make this a debate about keto, I think there is no need.
You are very much entitled to your own opinion and beliefs, in the end, there are various ways to get results. Keto is just one that may or may not work for some people.
OP's question was about cutting and strength loss -Ketogains was only linked because I think the answer there, (straight from Lyle McDonald's body recomposition forums / webpage) may help him get the answer he seeks.
Cheers!

I haven't one rep maxed anything since that post, but I did 3x8 w/405lbs on squats last week which is far more volume at that weight than I've pushed before, and my deadlift feels pretty solid still. Bench felt weaker than since my last time going heavy with it but I also took a few weeks off of it so I wasn't in a good groove either. Overall, strength is the same if not better, likely with my focus on getting 200g+ protein per day and still keeping carbs around. Last summer I tried low carb and my strength plummeted.
Yeah, this will be my third competition, first time in the open instead of Novice.
Edit: pics. Best I've got from about a week before my cut started. https://instagram.com/p/yVEE1xFb-Y/
Awesome to hear. First of all thank you, and secondly WOW 17,000 steps daily. You’re definitely at an advantage there.
I would recommend trying out OMAD. It is what catapulted my weight loss. I would also recommend taking digestive aids (all natural of course). I purchased Apple Cider Vinegar pills that I take with my one meal at night and they have also helped tremendously. I have been losing about 1.5-2lbs now per week steadily for a long time.
Now I kind of want to slow my weight loss, as this is not sustainable, nor should it be. But it’s what worked for me.
I have no affiliation with this app but it's helped me a ton. Made being in the gym easier because it spells out what you need to do. I'd suggest stronglifts 5x5 starting out (because that's what I started with). If you follow the program you should see results in 3-6 months. I started where you were and got down to 200. I'm back up to 250 but that's because I've been bulking. One thing to remember it's a marathon, not a sprint. Lemme know if you have any questions.
I calculated my TDEE to be around 2500 at the time. I ate around 1700 calories per day with around 170 g of protein and the rest was fats and carbs. On days where I wasn't working out, I would eat less carbs. In hindsight, this might be a risky way to lose weight since it can cause a loss in lifting ability (its usually recommeded to eat around 500 calories deficit and I was closer to 800) but I was able to maintain my lifts for the most part with the exception of Bench Press.
Yup, I used that exact plan. Download the SL 5x5 app, its free and really helped me keep track of my lifts as well as my weight. I have an Android phone so this is the app I used: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stronglifts.app&hl=en
Here’s an Amazon link to the one that I bought.
Stuff works like magic for those small piece of shit pimples on your upper back & chest you can’t really squeeze out.
You could probably keep “cutting” though you might want to ease off a bit. The yo-yo diet/activity patterns don’t work out long term.
Youth ought to be all about setting healthy patterns that serve you when you’re old and grey. Take it from this old fogey: it’s worth it to be a hot old fogey.
Keep an eye on BF with this. If you’re outside USA you’ll probably need a different model. TANITA's BF-679W FDA Cleared...
Sorry, didn't post the product at first because I wasn't sure if that went against the rules around here. Anyway, I'm using a generic and cheap version from Amazon. The Brand is called Nutricost.
One thing I will warn any newbs is that this stuff is an extremely potent stimulant. Like, next level and beyond any pre-workout I've ever used. It's recommended that you use 0.2 milligrams per kilogram of bodyweight (and in a fasted state) for true results, but that dose will take you some time to work up to. I'm at 15mg now, but even 5mg at first had me shaking like a dog.

BCAAs can be useful IMO. I drink xtend during my workout if anything just to have something tasty to drink. A good Creapure creatine mono added to that is all you need outside of the usual protein powder and such.
I'd at least get away from muscletech, they are garbage. Scivation makes xtend, one of the most popular BCAAs powders.
For creatine like I mentioned, just do a Creapure mono like Thorne Creatine, skip loading and just take 5g a day. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07978VPPH/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_TQ78SDPQPB80G5CCCEQX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Try this smart tape!
It can not only record your circumference, but also calculate the body fat rate, and at the same time, it can also calculate the more accurate body fat rate in combination with the body fat scale compensation, allowing you to better grasp the changes in your body.

Sure no problem.
I found it myfitnesspal. Here is the link. I forgot to add that it's an Asian sweet chili type of sauce.

So there's a 17 calorie difference, which is basically negligible.
Of course, it depends on what type of alcohol you drink, but I'm assuming he's in college so it's mostly gonna be the shittiest light beers (natty light, keystone, etc..) and the shittiest cheap vodkas (burnettes, smirnoff, etc..).
Don't buy them - not because they would be of no benefit, but because they are artificially overpriced.
In UK, they sell them for $61 dollars (45 pounds) https://www.amazon.co.uk/mymixtrendz-Adjustable-Dumbbells-Dumbbell-Bodybuilding/dp/B08HH9V6TC/ref=sr_1_5?crid=19DJTLJCGSNHD&keywords=dumbbell+set+30kg&qid=1641769577&sprefix=dumbbell+set+30kg%2Caps%2C66&sr=8-5 which isn't that bad for composite dumbbells.
Personally, I own a similar pair of 30 kilograms cast iron dumbbells + 20 kg of composite free weights because sometimes I don't feel like going to the gym so I have a workout at my place.
So either find them somewhere else cheaper or drop the idea of buying them altogether and stick to calisthenics/body workouts.
Honestly I pirated it from 7chan lol. Here’s the download link for the program I’m using. For some reason when you click download it takes you to the calendar app on iPhone. Just go back and click download again and it should work. You should open it on private mode on safari or incognito on google. Also might ask you to turn on a vpn. I’ve downloaded at least 20 lifting manuals from there and haven’t gotten any viruses yet. I think iPhones just don’t like downloading links from safari. If you want to find other ones, check here. There are hundreds of terabytes of files for different lifting books and programs in that thread. Idk whether or not it’s illegal because I know a lot of the programs on there are meant to be paid for lol.
This app counts your push ups using your phone's proximity sensor. It has some other neat features like: voice counting, achievements, timing and pace indicator, a leaderboard and a local saving system that stores your overall performance statistics.
At the moment, it is available for free on Play Store. Here's the app link.
Please let me know if you like it, and what could I improve about it to make it better. I appreciate any kind of feedback!
Here is a calculator I use which is honestly a great calculator. There is a way to do the math and see exactly and this calculator hits it on the nail everytime.
I have a pull up bar https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08K7RKJKD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share squat rack (that also has a lower hold for weights over my bench) pully system (ceiling anchor, multiple 'handles') resistance bands and a couple bars (long woth twist on ends and short barbell). I only have enough plates for 132lbs so I maxed out of weights on my deadlifts and switched to single leg Romanian deadlifts. I also do single leg weighted hip thrusts and Bulgarian split squats. I love my bosu ball and try straps for abs. Oh and I have a cheaper reformer.
You can buy fat pinchers and measure yourself. I would recommend doing that and a circumference measuring tape:
Start tracking every week.
I love the downvotes without someone actually taking the time to poke some letters and actually make an argument. I would agree the 25-30% range but I’m no expert on the matter and it doesn’t really matter. If you’re really looking for harsher comments maybe post in “roast me” threads haha! 👍 rock it 💪🏼🚊😀
Is it this model or which one did you get specifically? Happy with the results now that it has been a few weeks?
You know they have a handheld on amazon for like $25 and a handheld/ smart scale combo combo for $65. Takes all the guess work out.
I would estimate like 13-20%, as I’m at 13.5% right now, nearing the end of my bulk this year. I could be wrong though 😬
Correct. Cutting is not just weight loss. It is trying to prioritize the loss of fat while preserving muscle. To do so you'll want to be lifting as well as taking in adequate protein. How much protein you should be taking in is always up for debate. In my cuts, I always try to get at least 1.2g of protein for every kg of bodyweight.
So if I take in 120 g of protein in a day I'll have consumed 4cal/g *120g = 480 calories from protein.
If I'm cutting at 1800 calories, I have 1320 calories left filled in by carbs and fat.
If you don't have a food scale (like this), you should get one. It's hard to cut without measuring your food. For example, you can precisely measure how many calories of rice you're about to cook up, how many calories of chicken you're about to cook.
I use my food scale and myfitnesspal to track my calories as closely as I can. Hope this helps and good luck.
I really like this book: Bigger, Leaner, Stronger by Michael Matthews (http://www.amazon.com/Bigger-Leaner-Stronger-Building-Ultimate-ebook/dp/B006XF5BTG) It's a great primer and an easy read and condenses a lot of what you can find on /r/fitness.

This is a pretty good app, has built in routines, or can make your own. Reporting and everything integrated. My go to app. OP, have a look at this app for some pointers.
