If you want to learn more about what's new in KaiOS 3.0, here's the Key updates on KaiOS 3.0 page: https://www.kaiostech.com/help-center/key-updates-on-kaios-3-0/
Also an official explanation on why there hasn't been many apps on 3.0's KaiStore: https://www.kaiostech.com/help-center/apps-on-kaios-3-0/
Have you sent this also to someone from KaiOS Tech? If not, please do (for example here https://www.kaiostech.com/company/contact-us/).
Great post, thank you!
This is maybe because of the Let's Encrypt root certificate expiration (https://letsencrypt.org/docs/dst-root-ca-x3-expiration-september-2021/), read the other posts in this channel. You have to wait for KaiOS and phone manufacturers to release an update to fix this, or you can change your server certificate to other issuer than Let's Encrypt.
Whatsapp is built on XMPP, but I know that is not what you mean :p
Though I am not aware of any developments on an xmpp client, farooqkz is working on a matrix client which could then be bridged over to xmpp
Made the switch last October and it's been good. It's not perfect, though neither is Android (or any OS) and it is a bit laggy at times, but it's good enough, it keeps growing and getting better. I still use my phone but not as much as i used to and i no longer feel tied to my phone, like it owns part of my soul.
Kaios isn't as expansive as Android and doesn't have nearly the number of apps or features but it provides enough functionality to keep me connected/entertained without overwhelming me with unnecessary apps & features that i'd never use.
(I do wish someone would do a port of Zincland's Powder tho)
>KaiOS News app redesign
This KaiOS News redesign from last year?
>I use Adobe XD
Hmm, looks quite interesting since I'm pretty familiar with Photoshop, Illustrator, and a few other Adobe products. Sadly I'm on ChromeOS now, maybe one more reason to switch back to Mac
I think Ivan's referring to the somewhat recent news that Mozilla will be partnering with KaiOS to port a newer Gecko engine to KaiOS.
As far as I can tell, they are both the same OS (KaiOS), and, maybe, and I say maybe because I don't know, Nokia/HMD just adds their own "flavor" or customization on top (like vendors like LG, Samsung, etc, do to stock Android).
You can read this on KaiOS' official site:
> "The new Nokia 8110 is still just a feature phone, running a forked version of the dead Firefox OS created by KaiOS that HMD is calling ‘Smart Feature OS,’ but it has a few things you might not expect from a phone with a real numeric keypad and polycarbonate slider. It’s got 4G, for one. Facebook will also be available through an app store at some point and there will be some form of access to Google’s Assistant, Maps and search, as well as email, texts, Twitter and even Snake.”"
https://www.kaiostech.com/feature-phone-revival-mwc-powered-kaios
So they just gave it their own name (I guess if/once KaiOS is better known they'll just call that) and, like I said, maybe, just maybe, they also added a little customization.
Certainly a directory error – the tool assumes you put all the files in /home/8k, which normally does not exist in Windows. Modify the command to point to the right directory with the original boot file in it.
It's not recommended to use PowerShell to execute the Bash script either – the best way to do it is through git-scm's Bash terminal. Download it here, open the Bash terminal, git clone
the project and run the script from there.
There's also a manual, terminal-friendly way to edit the script without using Docker...
Yeah sold by TECHGURU.. it's annoying they do nothing about it, same thing on eBay.
This listing is legit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nokia-2720-Flip-7-11-Black-Black/dp/B07WQ85FWH/ and ships the black dual sim model from Germany, but it's constantly out of stock. Just save the bookmark and keep trying it. eBay second hand market is also another option but you need to be careful of fakes on there as well.
The best Energizer KaiOS that I've tried are the e280s (SC9820E, 2MP + 0.3MP FFC, 3000mAH) and e282sc (MTK6731, 2MP, 1450mAH).
The e242s (MTK6739, 0.3MP + 0.3MP FFC, 1700mAH) has the best processor, but I'd equipped with the worse cameras and a small battery. It's a slightly upgraded e241s, so I'm more confident recommending the e280s.
If you're only going to use it for Whatsapp chat + calls, FB, light GPS it's absolutely fine (the e242s) and €43 is decent.
Now if you're looking for a light device that can do all, look at this Android GO 11 device: https://www.amazon.fr/Energizer-Smartphone-Ultimate-T%C3%A9l%C3%A9phone-Autonomie/dp/B09WVYTT5D/?_encoding=UTF8&pf_rd_p=a1b16bdd-ae43-4c56-b6e2-5b3faade4322&pd_rd_wg=OQLAH&pf_rd_r=682GJQ0AGWMZEZBEN9A8&content-id=amzn1.sym.a1b16bdd-...
It's €77, but can do a whole lot more than the KaiOS devices and comes with a 3 yr warranty from Avenir.
Great info!
And how is e242s comparing? they sell at this point for around 43€ at [amazon.fr](https://www.amazon.fr/Energizer-Mobile-E242S-T%C3%A9l%C3%A9phone-Portable/dp/B09ZDY959F/?\_encoding=UTF8&pd\_rd\_w=CnLSX&content-id=amzn1.sym.d01040f0-2953-47b0-8f72-922a5679b397&pf\_rd\_p=d01040f0-2953-47b0-8f72-922a5679b397&pf\_r...). A relative bargain, if it does all the work!
Thanks. I'll just have to wait until something arises. It seems that all the manufacturers want to make them without keyboards, which seems nonsensical.

:(
WhatsApp developers haven't been working on a version for KaiOS 3.x yet, and there's no hurry to make one. That's understandable, since currently there are only 2 device models available in stores known to have KaiOS 3.x: the TCL Flip Pro and Alcatel Go Flip 4. Both are in the US where WhatsApp isn't so well-known. We'll see once the Nokia 2760 Flip 4G released.
Currently there are over hundreds of apps available in the KaiStore, but they're mostly games. You can browse the catalogs here: https://www.kaiostech.com/store/
Where did you purchase and phone, and what carrier are you trying to use it with? I have an 8110 4G in the US. The international variant comes SIM-unlocked but only works on AT&T. From the product description: >Work with Only AT&T and Its Affiliate Carriers 3G+ service in USA. Will Not Work with T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon and all other network affiliate to these carriers.
Keep in mind, it's quite old for KaiOS phones. You might be better off with a more recent model, or even waiting for the upcoming Nokia 2760 Flip 4G.
So I could root this one?and install the b-store? And remove whatever factory apps I dislike? https://www.amazon.com/Nokia-8110-Locked-KaiOS-Phone/dp/B07CNSPBWV Is it hard to do? I am capable of following directions and not afraid to mess with things but don't really know much about these things. Thanks!
As /u/android_tablet pointed out, the 3310 doesn't run KaiOS. You're thinking of the [8110 4G "banana" phone](https://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_8110_4g-9089.php)
Thee 3310 has three models, the original, the 3G and the 4G. While they all have the same UI, each runs a different underlying OS, and none of them run KaiOS.

https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8597&idPhone2=8876&idPhone3=9046#diff-

The 4G has enough to RUN KaiOS, but I highly doubt you can install it due to driver issues.

I bought the 3G and found out the hard way :(
Nice work, it's quite simple and easy to understand compared to the existing weather apps!
Any particular reason why the app is type "certified" instead of type "privileged"? If you don't need any special permissions, you may even be able to distribute as a hosted app and use GitHub Pages to host it. Then users will always stay on the latest version.
I am using application Activity (https://www.kaiostech.com/store/apps/?bundle_id=com.kaiostech.activity). It's using GPS to track your exercise and you can upload the result to your Strava account. When in use, you can close the app and it continues to track your position, when you start the app again, it will resume the screen where you left (it works like minimizing the app). The same works for the Music app, you can close the app when playing music and the playback continues. Only drawback is when you minimize the playing music and you start some CPU demanding app (like web browser), the music playback could be affected by the high CPU usage (the playback won't be smooth).
with localization it helps if you switch to 2G / 3G, I wrote an openstreetmap you can try it out, with this you can also integrate your own map layer.

As of writing this, there are 2 known devices that have KaiOS 3.0 preinstalled, and both are in the United States.
Source: Get a device with KaiOS 3.0, KaiOS Help Center - https://www.kaiostech.com/help-center/get-a-device-with-kaios-3-0/ | Edit: formatting
Some apps does not appear in the app drawer. As example https://www.kaiostech.com/store/apps/?bundle_id=com.kaiostech.otpparser
I have the same phone (KaiOS version 2.5.1.1) and my experience is this:
Hello
I want to apologize for being so rude in the comment. It was a very silly way of not seeing others use this device, in needs out of my context. I was wrong about how these features can help and are used in many ways.
I have never used youtube on banana phone, but I am curious about these points : D
"here is a huge lack of ads " and "I was shocked at how well YouTube works on it tbh"
the problem that when closing the keyboard many applications stop working. must be reported
I invite you to write to them, I usually report problems on this page https://www.kaiostech.com/company/contact-us/
edit 2: its posible to port someting like newpipe(newpipe.net) to the banna phone ?
The Alcatel Go Flip 3 is not debug enabled or unlocked so you cannot side-load or uninstall pre-installed apps. The only group text app available on the KaiStore that I'm aware of is WhatsApp. The GoFlip 3 is a solid phone and one of the nicest KaiOS devices I've used, but it's fairly limited in capability because it's locked.
Np, excited to see what you develop.
FYI, take a look at the KaiAds Agreement. You're required to use KaiAds, but if you want to make any money, I strongly suggest finding alternative monetization paths. They take 70% of net revenue, and I see average eCPMs of ~$0.12.
Good question, nothing here about it. What kind of device were you thinking about? I had ideas myself but I don't have any technical know-how, more business know-how.
Nokia will also be releasing the '800 Tough'
https://www.kaiostech.com/introducing-the-nokia-2720-flip-and-800-tough-powered-by-kaios/
I am sitting on a nokia 8110 with KaiOS and I love it. I dont think you will be able to have whatsapp on it since I cant find it in its limited "store". Otherwise KaiOs have all the basic stuff and I got positively supprised over it.

Found a list of the apps: https://www.kaiostech.com/meet-the-apps-available-on-kaios/
I see, interesting mindset!
I just checked the list of the app's editors on the official store and almost all of them are medium to big companies, weird to see that there's no indie dev.
Would be great to have feedback about the app submission process

FYI the list is here: https://www.kaiostech.com/meet-the-apps-available-on-kaios/
If your phone has WiFi capabilities (and/or ability to set DNS server), you can use something like Pi-Hole to block ads on KaiOS. I can confirm this works from personal experience. You just need to have the ad initiate, check the Pi-Hole connections UI to see where it originated from, and block that for future connections.
This would also only work if you're on the same WiFi as the Pi-Hole. Once you go on 3G/4G, it will stop working until you connect to that WiFi again.
If you can't set up Pi-Hole, you can /try/ using a service such as NextDNS.io but I'm not sure if you can look into your connections/block specific requests with those as you can with Pi Hole
There seems to be a cloent in development that is still in a very early stage. https://notabug.org/bananaphone/marooq
Btw. I would also buy a KaiOS phone for holidays if I could use Signal or at least Matrix.
And to know when there is one is also the readon why I subscribed this channel.
It looks like the telgram client is no longer working: https://github.com/zhukov/webogram

Probably the BLU Zoey Smart: https://www.amazon.com/BLU-Display-WhatsApp-Facebook-Pre-Loaded/dp/B08381VVVX
There may be some carrier locked ones that are around the same price with better specs too - such as the Cricket Debut Flip ($50)
I see BLU Zoey Smart on Amazon, are there any know firmware updates that block jailbreak? Would future updates block it? The main reason why Windows Mobile (was) and Android are better than iPhone/PSP is that you can install 3rd party apps not on App Store regardless of firmware!!!
Thanks for your question!
Keeping out of sight is great solution for smartphone addiction! But sometimes we need to keep our phone with us. For example, you may be waiting for a mail, or a business-related message. In these cases, you can do self-control by limiting your application and phone usage.
StayFree can be downloaded via the link below, and contains the great features to hep you to boost your productivity and self control. You can set usage limits for your apps and receive alerts when exceeding those usage limit. You can also view the details of your usage and statistics on your usage history.
Give it a try!
