The creator has answered this question, actually: https://curiouscat.me/bombsfall/post/61877427
Basically, it's not a metaphor. That's just how the world of NITW works. It's not weird to them.
It makes sense to me. Just because a dog-person resembles a dog doesn't mean they are the same thing.
They're more just... humans. Originally they were animal people and there was species discrimination/racism in the story but they axed this during development. Instead they like to think of them now as pretty much just people who are being depicted in a visual style.
Here's his Curious Cat answer on this subject:
> the antifascist stuff wasn't added late. none of the politics in the game were added. tbh we were just a bit ahead of the curve on a national conversation level. it was spooky at the end of last year thinking "oh wow... uh... this game we've been making for 3 years is going to be read as a response to things that happened in the past 3 months". but i mean all this still was there before and we wanted to talk about it, we just thought we were shining a light on some little-discussed things. we talked about a lot of this stuff in talks we did years ago. so yeah. it's been interesting. but you can't choose your times.
Your comment and commentary on this all is fantastic, by the way. Thank you.

It wasn't to fill a quota; In fact, they specifically say they don't like that either.
They just removed it with the intention of moving it, and forgot to re-add it by mistake.
This comes up often, but Scott already answered this on his curiouscat: https://curiouscat.me/bombsfall/post/61877427
The way I see it is something like the Fishmen from One Piece. They're just a single race that has a wide variety of expression.
Individuals resemble specific animals, and have some attributes of those animals. For convenience, in NitW they're referred to as humans or people. This is considered normal, so few people comment on it unless it comes up directly. Also, there might be a social taboo against directly bringing up someone's "species" unless it's unavoidable.
Also, while it's subtle, there are certain patterns and animal stereotypes at play in the game. Most obvious is with birds, who often have religious or spiritual connections.
Actually, about the Crimes thing, Scott Benson answered this question (asked by me!) on CuriousCat a while back.
>Some folks have been like REALLY weirded out by this. Some folks have been really weirded out by a lot of the random bits of friendship violence and vandalism in the game, and I can only assume this is because they are secretly cops.
>Anyway, here is a list of completely voluntary non-bullying all in fun violent things my friend Sean and I used to do from ages 12-14: - take turns breaking increasingly larger sticks over eachother's backs until we'd had enough
>Sean was cool. We had some times. He's dead now. That's another story though.
Well you CAN technically play it on a phone... by streaming Steam to your phone through the Steam Link App. It's basically streaming the game from your PC to your phone, app recognizes a PS4 controller and has on screen touch controls too. Latest update even finally added the ability to stream to your phone while on mobile internet (previously you had to be on the same network/wi-fi as your PC).
If anyone wants to try it out, you can get the app here link to Google Play
EDIT: grammar
Initially, during a development process he was intended to be a dog, but as most of the people was recognizing him as a fox, devs just gave up and made him a fox.
One I programmed myself in Processing 3 specifically for converting the Gregg image.
I resize the image first in GIMP to be a 28 pixels per original pixel then I custom setup the variables in this code:
PImage img; PImage GridImg; int OrigW = 23; int OrigH = 23; int r = 1; int c = 1; int sx = 731; int sy = 579; PFont cour;
void setup() { cour = createFont("cour.tff", 14); size(672, 672); frameRate(5); img = loadImage("NITW.png"); strokeWeight(2); stroke(100); background(255); image(img, 28, 28); }
void draw() { line(img.width / OrigW * c - 1, 0, img.width / OrigW * c - 1, height); fill(0); textFont(cour); text(str(c+(sx-1)), img.width / OrigW * c + 1, 20); if ( c < OrigW) { c++; } else { line(0, img.height/OrigH*r-1, width, img.height/OrigH*r-1); text(str(r+(sy-1)), 1, img.height/OrigH*r + 20); if ( r < OrigH) { r++; } else { noLoop(); saveFrame("NITWGrid.png"); } } }
Also Lori isn't named after Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, she's literally named after a NOFX song called Lori Meyers.
"Microsoft emulator" wouldn't be the right term.
The usual options are:
Dual Booting: If you don't already have this (and I assume you don't), you probably aren't keen on doing this. Sacrifices disk space that you will never be able to use for OS X while it exists due to partitioning. It would be the best performance and most compatible though.
Virtual Machine: Setting up Windows inside of a Virtual Machine. (Virtual Box for example, which would be free to use, but of course Windows itself technically isn't.) Performance may vary... but at least it's self-contained and doesn't change your system.
Wine: I don't own or use Macs generally, but I would be curious if WineBottler would work. It's a wrapper around Wine, which is software that gets some Windows apps running on non-Windows platforms. (It's not technically an emulator per se, more of a bridge.) WineBottler is a convenience wrapper to make Wine easier to use on OS X specifically. But all of this is contingent on whether NITW would run under Wine at all.
This community is only friendly if you agree to make everyone queer, even when it makes zero sense and even goes against canon. The fandom is another snowflake LGBTQ hivemind where there's no such thing as a straight person. I mean a lot of people headcanon Casey as gay, for christ's sake, and he doesn't even have a character. The LGBTQ presence in small towns like that are almost non-existent, but hey, can't huwt feewings, right?

Sorry, folks; Maebea is not real and never will be because Bea was confirmed to be straight in canon and Casey's sexuality wasn't explored. Plus you people complain that LGBTQ isn't properly represented in media, but then there's Gregg, who's an AMAZING representation and has an actual character whose sexuality isn't his personality... but then you guys make his personality LOL I'M SO GAAAAAAY!

Don't worry, I know this'll be deleted and I'll be banned. Doesn't change that I'm right.
I've been playing it now and nowhere does it say that he's a deer, maybe he mentioned something about deers but like... I don't think so? Also literally the quote from the developer "Gregg was a dog and then everyone I showed him to thought he was a fox so I was just like FUCK IT" from here, so I hope we can get this question to end. I didn't think it was that deep.
I feel like most people would agree with you on the abstraction point. I personally don't find the experiences very different, except for that with pattern drafting you have to do most of the thinking in advance.
See, plush being more durable is not always the case. A properly constructed needlefelt is plenty durable. There are a few companies that make simple ones as specifically extra durable dog toys. An example here.
A plush's durability is determined by its thread, stitching, and fabric. It's easier to make something middle-of-the-road here if you've got your hands on a sewing machine. Harder for hand-stitching, though.
I'll grant you sewing has more varied usage. While it's possible to needlefelt a pair of pants, I'm not sure why anyone'd want to.
