The Mage-Emperor has another chance at life. He failed before, he will not fail again.
An 80-year-old Mage-Emperor is murdered by his closest companions because of his own vanity and thirst for power. He is reborn into a fantasy Japan-like world as a baby. Using his vast knowledge of magic and strategy from his previous life, he aims to become this new world's most powerful warrior: the Kensei.
This reincarnation story features the use of enchanted tattoos crafted from Magical Beasts, martial arts, empire-building, and light cultivation elements. The Main Character is hyper-intelligent and hyper-competent.
No harems. No romance.
How is Kensei progression fantasy?
The main character has to learn the magic system of his new world. There are no explicit power levels, but mages in this world increase their power through creating and augmenting magical tattoos by farming Magical Beasts.
For those of you who missed the original back in 2019, I just released a second version of my post-apocalyptic fantasy, Everything is Worth Killing.
The one-line hook: A normal guy awakes in an apocalyptic fantasy land where almost everything wants to kill him, and he has to learn how to change from prey to predator, hunted to hunter, food to…uh…chef.
For this version, I cut the fluff from the first book to make it a faster paced and more satisfying trip into a badass apocalyptic world.
I wrote this story to scratch a fantasy survival itch where gains are tough to get, but they mean a lot. Isaac, the poor guy, starts off in a strange land with nothing. Really, nothing. He can’t even speak the language.
We then follow his successes and his failures while he puzzles out how to use magic, works out what wants to kill him and what doesn’t, and tries to find a place and get stronger in this deadly society.
If that sounds like your kinda thing then we’re gonna be friends, and you can read Everything is Worth Killing here:

Spellmonger definitely has combat, but it isn't a progression story in that respect after the traditional sense.
The protagonist starts out as a small village hedge wizard, slowly growing in power and importance until he's eventually a feudal lord and more. So if you consider gaining new titles and ranks in the peerage progression, then you might find it to be a fun read.

Synopsis:
Humans now live on the seafloors of seven oceans and have formed cities there. Some from corals, some from crabholes in the ground, among countless others. To survive, hunting parties travel to vast, and wild, oceans in search of game, big and small, to feed on.
But in the narrow, and secluded, Erythraean Sea, latched onto the Indian Ocean by way of the Gulf of Aden, Physeter is alone. He is the only blind man in an sea of sight. While its inhabitants still rely on their eyes, Physeter has only his ears. And the ability to echolocate.
When a mysterious sound haunts the deep while on a salvage expedition to the Thistlegorm, mimicking Physeter’s clicks, might he have found another? And if he pursues the siren’s call, he will no longer be unique. But will he be even more solitary?
> Blood Song as a one-off book is astounding
To clarify for anyone reading this, Blood Song has a story that stands alone, but it also has sequels. Blood Song is one of my favorite fantasy books of all time. You can buy it right now for $2.99, and I recommend it to anyone who loves progression fantasy, although it probably doesn't strictly fall into that genre. Its sequels are some of my least favorite fantasy novels I've ever read. I fortunately read them long enough ago that I have mostly forgotten them and can enjoy Blood Song again as the stand-alone novel it was meant to be.
tldr read Blood Song, don't read sequels

Kind of a poke at the old spear-chucker and punch-wizard. Most people seem to like it.

Just a quick announcement. Sacred Cat Island, narrated by Travis Baldree, won an Independent Audiobook Award on Friday in the LitRPG/GameLit category. This one slipped under the radar a bit, and it’s quite different from the other stories I’ve published, so if you haven’t read it or listened to the audio, here are the links again! And thanks to Travis for nailing it! Think of it as a slowburn progression fantasy LitRPG blended with Animal Crossings.

I write cultivation from a western fantasy style. This series fast paced as I only focus on the important bits.
If you read the first; I heard you. Less luck, more proactive MC, more world building. I hope you all enjoy my book and my journey to improve my writing.
I got lots of great feedback, hit me again on what you love/hate about my writing. And of course, please feel free to hate me for harem elements and my lovely cover. Less gravity defying this time, but still so lovely.
I like Forging Destiny on RR. It’s not finished yet, but the author seems very consistent and the story is nearing the end of the first book. It is a bit of a slower paced story.
He Who Fights with Monsters is also really good and on RR. the first book is already done, and the author is both very prolific and reliable. I’ve never seen him miss a scheduled posting, and he posts chapter 5 days a week. He’s onto the second book now.
*I prefer to read on my kindle too, so I use a Chrome extension called WebToEpub. Then you can use Calibre to convert that epub into a kindle file and upload it. It’s really helpful for super long RR stories like the two I recommended above or The Wandering Inn.

Isekai Assassin Volume 3 is live!!!
I had a lot of fun writing this novel as it introduces a few new characters and let me go in depth on a few returning ones as well. All of which play off each other really well in my opinion.
If you haven’t checked out the series yet, now is the perfect time.
I liken the series to what would happen if you took John Wick and dropped him into a fantasy world with magic and skills and let him loose.
Blurb:
Anyone determined enough can ruin a city. The only question is: do I have what it takes to rule one?
After Crescent Thorns failed attack on Blackfall Manor, things are finally calm enough to turn my attention back to Vohra and rebuild the underworld.
But there are no shortage of fires to put out; enough problems both near and far that my fledgling empire might be in trouble before it begins.
The one person who can hope to stem the tide is also my single biggest threat in this world.
Jasper Ildan, the Jackal of Vohra, is the devil I don’t know, but when my back’s against the wall, even I’ll consider making a deal.

The Nelson’s have survived their first couple weeks in a new world but not without some personal loss.
They have a daughter to find- which is foremost in the mind of any parent.
Unfortunately their actions have also brought them to the attention of bigger players and they have to balance long term security with immediate needs.
Dave and Emily are going to have to trust each other to get done what needs doing- at least if they want to thrive in this Life in Exile.
This book is faster paced- more focused on the Nelson’s and shows how they grow in character, power, and the world around them.
After what feels like forever, I'm super excited to bring you Germination, book 2 in the Battle Mage Farmer series.

For John Sutton, things are finally looking up... For now...
The farm is running smoothly, the local bandits have been pacified, and he is starting to understand how magic works. Though none of that will matter if he can’t get his Doom Points under control.
As Ellie seeks to join the ranks of Class Holders, the mystery surrounding her grandmother grows and the two of them set off to discover the truth. But her legacy as a Witch is not the only mystery that needs to be explored. A strange plant is growing in Ferdie’s field, and it’s given John a new quest.
Meanwhile, a secret organization spreading its tendrils of influence throughout the war-weary world is plotting to destroy the fragile peace John fought so hard to achieve. As the shadows that surround this world are peeled back, he'll need every ounce of wisdom and restraint he has ever possessed to keep from blowing the whole thing up himself.

About the Series: Mixing slice-of-life with epic fantasy action, mystery, magic, cultivation, and a broken game system that seems determined to make everything as hard as possible for the already overpowered protagonist, this LitRPG/GameLit series is perfect for readers who enjoy exploring rich worlds and complex characters
What is the difference between abilities and traits in term of your system? I assume that one is an active thing, while the other is a passive one.
A good question might be to think about how they are acquired. Do they come as "Rewards" from accomplishing special events. Are they "Unlocks" from grinding stuff. Are they "Specializations" picked from choices during leveling such as two of the same class might get different ones.
That kind of thing.
Last resort: https://www.powerthesaurus.org/ability/synonyms gives you 3433 different ways of saying ability. I'm sure there's one that can encompass what abilities and traits are in your system...
It’s hard focusing on classes when your very blood wants to kill you!
Demon Hunter in Scarlet is a love letter to Martial arts, Academy, and cultivation novels…with a splash of slow burn harem thrown in to spice things up.
It has blood magic and blood cultivation, a strong MC that has to fight to grow more powerful and isn’t just handed everything because he’s the MC.
If that sounds right up your alley, you should check it out!
Blood never lies.
My name is Michael. As a child, I was nearly killed by a demon, and ever since, the only thing I've cared about is becoming a blood knight. Using the mana inside my blood to protect others from the monsters that plague the world.
Eight years I devoted to training, and finally, I was ready to be tested. My blood was measure and assessed, laid bare for all to see.
And it was found wanting.
I was given the lowest rank possible, just barely meeting the requirements to take the prestigious Sanguine Academy entrance exam.
But I aim to prove them wrong.
Pure determination can only see me so far, and all of my training will be put to the test as I find more than a few obstacles in my way. I've got new friends, rivals, and lovers surrounding me, but blood is the only thing that matters in this academy.
I'm going to show them all that mine is stronger than they could've possibly imagined.

Kale Ardeus is a Fearbreaker.
When he broke his fear of heights, he definitely didn’t expect to be using his newly found abilities for stealing around his neighborhood. And he definitely didn’t expect to be forced into the military right after either. Imposed into a military camp, he struggles to adapt to a world of combat and answer to a mentor he never really asked for.
Argo is an A-Ranked Fearbreaker.
When he broke his fear of death, he became immortal. He’s the Leader of the Crows, a Rogue clan hoping to end a country’s corruption once and for all. When a mission with the potential to overthrow the country itself arises, Argo finds himself leading the other clans into the forefront.
Just how will the fates of these two collide?
Link if you want to buy or read for free on KU: Enjoy!
If you enjoy Cast Under an Alien Sun, I strongly recommend another series Safehold.

The setup is a little complicated but basically the MC is a state of the art android in a Medieval setting who (over the course of 10 books) kicks off a major industrial revolution. Its very similar to "Cast Under an Alien Sun" or "Release That Witch" in that it involves a lot of "climbing up the industrial tech tree".

Though of the three, Safehold does a far more comprehensive job of it than either of the other two.
I really enjoyed How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps by Andrew Rowe, it’s a zero-to-hero story where the MC gets pretty powerful pretty quickly, the whole thing is very fast paced, and it’s pretty funny as well. A lot of munchkinry, a lot of fun. Wholeheartedly recommend.
Is the promotion on Amazon? I don't see a link.
Edit: Its on Amazon here's the Canadian Link
demon of dreadnaught is about a guy who becomes a demon. he's a possession demon so he goes through the story possessing items that other characters use. as he levels the buffs and skills of the possessed item he is in make the side characters orders of magnitude more powerful than they should be. the protagonist is losing his humanity as he devolves into a demon trapped inside of items and the side characters must hold on to their morals as they start to become mega beings / or as they confront enemies who are surprisingly even more powerful than them. Link if you want it
City of Sin from a Chinese author, it is definitely inspired by Planescape: Torment, it is a representative of the rare D&D xianxia genre. The hero is a runemaster, heir to the cursed clan, where the devil bloodline is supported by incest, he rises to power in the planar metropolis, leads planar invasions. Epic, drama and all sorts of 18+. The novel and its translation are completed.
Defiance of the Fall from a Swedish author. It's a rare kind of readable mix of xianxia and litrpg. The hero progresses not just as a cultivator but also as a leader; it deals with management, city building, alliances and backstabs, some economics, genocides, etc. It feels quite, ehm, gritty realistic, but not without a weird humor sometimes. The first tome (~600 chapters) is completed.
The plot is very similar. Although the MC doesn't quite begin in "our" modern world, it's otherwise accurate to your description. The MC instead has reached the heights of prowess in one form of cultivation in a society with relatively modern technology (from what I recall) before eventually dying and reincarnating as an OP newborn in a much more "medieval" society.
First book in a new series. It's a little darker than some litRPG stories out there.
Blurb:
Espen agreed to the experiment, he needed the cash and they said it would be short. The company running the test was renowned for being clandestine, but he had no idea just how deep their rabbit hole went. Espen finds himself thrown into a brutal world where two sides are stuck in a never-ending war. Light vs dark. Angels vs demons. It feels like a simulation, but he finds he can’t get out. As he tries to find his way home, Espen discovers that there’s much more to the new world than he thought, and unfortunately Earth has just discovered that too.

I’m not sure if it falls under progression although I don’t recall them gaining levels rather just getting stronger with their abilities. However it is a great series that I really liked.
Anyone know what category it would fall under.

Thank you so much for supporting my work. I have something special coming for the progression fantasy genre this year. It should scratch a lot of itches, and I’ll post more about it soon. In the meantime, enjoy Neil Hellegers' (Good Guys, Bad Guys - all around great guy!) narration, and comment to get a copy of book one.
So I'm going to throw out
Cultivating Chaos and Asgard Awakening by William D Arrand and Blaise Corvin both writing in their combined "Veilverse".
Cultivating Chaos is another Western take on like a Wuxia/Xianxia hybrid (at least I haven't really seen any immortals or demon beasts or what not, but definitely leans more into Xianxia) that I actually find fantastic, and because it's being written as William D Arrand not Randi Darren the harem stuff is super understated (but joked about a lot . . . actually there are a ton of "Chosen One" jokes in this book).
Asgard Awakening is a straight up power gain fantasy with some game lit elements, yes I have a lot less to say about this one, because . . . well, it actually reminds me of the Daniel Black series.
My own, Ruin (Life and Death Cycle) is written from 2 perspectives, male and female. The 2nd book came out today too. Aidan does get a bit more focus, but Mei Lynn is equally as important and crucial to the story. There's a romantic subplot too, if you like that sort of thing.
I consider both to be equally the MC, but Mei Lynn is technically a deuteragonist. It's a cultivation-based magic system.
Wheel of time. Want to look up people places or things in the series? You might need this 800+ page companion book.
Azarinth Healer might be something you'll like.
It takes a while, but MC gets stupid powerful and badass. Also, it's available on Audible.
Only the first book is out right now, but the series is almost complete on RR, at nearly 1000 chapters.
I know this isn't what the publisher intended when they made the release date Dec. 19, but I can't help but want to think that this is their way of announcing that it's my birthday. Lol.
Anyways, Book 2 is now an audiobook1
A cultivation fantasy published in light novel style with black and white illustrations.
Upon reaching the Core Formation Realm, Tianyi discovers a flaw in his cultivation method that is near impossible to remedy even with his almighty mother's aid. His only hope is to find a solution in the ruin of the Immortal Court. To do this, he will have to grasp a chance during the Three Heavens Connection Meeting, fighting the geniuses and elite disciples from other continents and sects, two of which who are equal to the Buzhou Immortal Sect.
So why does everything feel off? Especially the weirdos who keep challenging him!
If you aren't into audiobooks, good news. The Ebook is also on sale today!
The Path of Ascension might be something for you.
The MC is married to the grind, but so is his girlfriend, and they advance together. Good stuff.
This.
It was recently released on Amazon, so the quality of the early parts of the story is stellar now.
The story has almost a thousand chapters up on RR, and is about to be completed.
Probably the best action-focused ProgFantasy novel out there.
Azarinth Healer, for sure. You'll love this one. It has almost a thousand chapters up on RR, and it's about to be completed.
You'll find no other book that has a greater sense of freedom and carefreeness. This is the epitome of "I got isekai'ed and now I love my life."
Jeremy Bai, the translator of the cultivation classic I Shall Seal The Heavens, has his own cyberpunk cultivation series!
This is something I'm doing with my own book, but its building over the series. This isn't a "girl meets the MC and instantly falls in love" sort of book. In fact, she doesn't like nor does she trust men in general.
The male MC doesn't want the distraction of a relationship either. He has his own goal he is pursuing. There's a significant amount of character development that happens, and events force both to really think about their feelings and how it impacts them. Which ultimately impacts the decisions they make and the overall plot of the series.
It is a core part of both primary character arcs though. It's written from both MC's perspectives. One male, one female. The magic system is cultivation.
Sacred Flame (Life and Death Cycle Book 2) comes out Dec 21.
Ruin (Life and Death Cycle Book 1) can be found on Amazon. It's also available on KU.
Sacred Flame (Life and Death Cycle Book 2) releases on December 21st on Amazon.
After saving Mei Lynn and some of her expedition from certain death, Aidan follows them back to Sacred Flame Academy. Back to civilization. And a choice needs to be made. One that might unwittingly be the difference between the survival of humanity, or its death.
But things aren't what they seem at Sacred Flame. The more Aidan learns, the more he suspects something isn’t right. And his appearance has set events in motion that he never intended.
Many believe a path is a personal choice. But not every path can be chosen.
----
If you haven't already, check out Ruin (Life and Death Cycle Book 1).
For Aidan, being ordinary was a curse. Watching the village’s high artists wield the power of the world was an impossible dream for him to achieve. But there was honor in growing food. In living an ordinary life.
Mei Lynn was born talented, able to walk a path. With a promising matchup to the City Lord’s son, the future of her family was set. But when things go awry, her family is forced to flee for their lives.
Every decision has consequences.
The magic system is Cultivation.
Sorry to keep you waiting! These are in no particular order. Mix of LITRPG and Cultivation.

The Rogues of the Republic trilogy, Patrick Weekes (known for his writing in the Dragon Age games).
There’s a degree of progression fantasy, but it’s better described as 3 heist books in a fantasy world. Genuinely one of my favourite ever series - well written, great plot and the world building is top notch. I came across it by accident and only gave it a chance because all of the books are on KU.
I’d describe the characters as if you set up a party in a TTRPG, but built them to be the rogue version of each class - eg, wizard specialising in illusion, but actually each very well developed and distinct.

I posted this list before for another request. Various LITRPG and Cultivation stories
I've enjoyed each of these to varying degrees. None are exactly like Cradle. The closest, as far as story elements, magic system, and structure goes, I'd have to say Ruin. I think you'd like Hero of the Valley. It has a similar coming of age structure. Infinite World is another in the same vein. Both of these are LITRPG instead of cultivation.
Little info about Ruin
Aidan was born mundane, without the ability to cycle the energies of the world to grow stronger. A disaster shatters everything he knew and drives him into discovering a forgotten path to power.
Mei Lynn grew up with the ability to cycle aura, but when a match that would set her family up as lesser nobility goes awry, her family is forced to flee the city and try to find a new life.
On top of all this, war has been slowly bleeding humanity and they are at the cusp of extinction. But no one on Oneris even knows about a war being fought in the heavens to protect the last bastion of humanity.

I hope there is something here that you like!
I have two releases this month!
While the first Aeonica book (The Lost Redeemer) is already out in ebook/paperback formats, the audiobook coming on December 27th:
https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Lost-Redeemer-Audiobook/B0BLTQZC8Y
Aeonica takes place in the same universe as my Web of Secrets series. There’s a cultivation-style magic system where you build mana in your soul, but the characters in this particular series already start with high-level souls for mysterious reasons that are revealed later, and the focus is more on understanding/controlling those abilities.
The audiobook is narrated by Suzy Jackson, who also did Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward series, and Andrew Rowe’s How to Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps. I’ve already listened to the whole thing, and she did an amazing job!
Also, the second Aeonica ebook comes out on December 26th! (Although I recommend not preordering this because it will be 99 cents on release day as part of the Holiday MegaSale.)

A Practical Guide to Sorcery is both excellent and has a beautiful cover.
A story of monstrous flavor and evolutions of taste.
Maybe not a monster, but it’s a non-human evolution story, that’s for sure.
Because I am nothing if not three chaos goblins in a trench coat, I hit the button on book two in my series tonight thinking that Amazon would get around to it tomorrow. Ha! Joke's on me, and it's live at 10 p.m. on a Sunday.
The Ascendent Sky is the second book in the Transcendent Green series of ApocaLitRPG/Progression Fantasy! The first book is called The Transcendent Green, if you missed that one!
Mage MC, slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance, Scottish wildcat kitten, lots of Gaelic, Scots, and English swears, yer new Highland gran who must be protected at all costs, cheeky wee birbs, and Earth's most kickable Bawbag.
Also some cultivation elements!
Here's the blurb:
Earth has ascended…
Magic tears through an unsuspecting planet of humans, bringing mythology and monsters to life—and providing humanity a chance to prove their mettle.
The hunt is on…
Argyll is full of danger. With Eilidh loose on her own in the countryside, Calum and his friends are always one step behind on her trail. They don’t know her route, only that Lord Sackington’s people have murdered the team sent to rescue vulnerable refugees.
But Eilidh has left a trail of magical breadcrumbs—a trail only Calum can follow.
When they encounter the full horror of Sackington’s hunger for power, it’s no longer a few ragtag Scots against the wilds: it’s a band of survivors against a rising evil.
Their haven in Oban is in peril, and the beithir is back . . . and out for blood.
Contains strong language in the face of the end of the world. You've been warned.
Iron Prince is absolutely amazing, and I don't even like Sci-Fi much. A must read.
Congrats!! I hope it's all going well!
Also, when you post links, most people would prefer you remove the "locater" information on the link. Everything after the ? is actually just "junk" that shows how you got to the link.
Here is a "clean" link of you book:
Hey everyone!
While my books On Lavender Tides and A Fracture in the Qwisdeep are already out in paperback/ebook, the audiobook combo pack that combines the two will be out from Podium on Dec. 6 with dual narrators Graham Halstead and Rebecca Woods ~
21 hours of Pokemon-inspired battling and slice-of-life adventuring across a tropical archipelago!
Could make for an interesting premise where the only Stat that is codified is Luck.
What determines victors?
Those who stack the odds in ways both arcane and mundane (Dragon Seers in Rachel Aaron's Heartstrikers primarily operate on this).
Fates Parallel is my favourite cultivation fic, though it strays quite a bit from typical Xianxia storyline, since it is about an experimental academy when masters of all three big disciplines - cultivation, martial arts and wizardry try to find out if those schools of knowledge can mix together.

One day, Jyosh will climb the heavens and slay a dragon god.
Though nothing could seem less likely for a slave, especially one whose body is too broken to cycle sunshine into destructive magical energy. Until he meets a woman who can secretly teach him the lightblade, an energy sword transmuted from sunlight, capable of changing size, shape, and performing incredible magical feats according to the wielder’s skill level.
Except she only exists in his dreams. Each hour of sleep equals a day in these shared lucid dreams, wherein he must master new lightblade abilities, bond with his teacher and other allies, and gain the fortitude to overcome his weakness and crush his enemies.

Audiobook releasing on December 27!
Hey everyone!
My completed progression-adjacent series, The Murder of Crows, has gotten some love in this subreddit, so I wanted to announce that I've just released a standalone novel set in the same post-apocalyptic superhero world: The Queen of Smiles.
Summary:
From the pages of The Murder of Crows trilogy comes the first stand-alone novel for one of that series' breakout characters!
The Queen of Smiles has long been a mystery, even to herself. A storm of steel wrapped in a human shell, she's spent decades crossing the continent in search of answers about her origin and the rules she has been forced to live by. Three years ago, under a bright New Mexico sun, she finally got those answers… and they were as unsatisfactory as they come.
And so, she withdrew from the world, doing only small jobs for the people of the nearby town of Eclipse. But life carries on and the post-Break world won't stop spinning. When she returns from a trip to find Eclipse burned to the ground and its people slaughtered, the Queen of Smiles begins a mission of revenge that will take her through the Badlands, into the path of the horrors of Texas, and ultimately, to the seat of power of the teenage warlord who calls herself the Crimson Queen.
Because sometimes, the biggest question isn't why; it's what's next.
The Queen of Smiles is a full-length, stand-alone novel set in the post-Break world of The Murder of Crows. It takes place after the events of that trilogy's final volume, One Tin Soldier.
The book is currently available in print and digital formats (and always on Kindle Unlimited), while the audiobook release will be coming in Q1-2 2023. Enjoy!
Hi friends,
Cultivation (Battle Mage Farmer #3) just dropped today.
With the mystery of the world deepening, John Sutton is running out of time.
The apocalypse is approaching as his Doom Points tick up and John is finding it harder and harder to keep it together. His deepening knowledge of magic seems to be helping but as a hidden society creeps out of the shadows, intent on throwing the world into chaos, it may not be enough.
About the Series: Mixing slice-of-life with epic fantasy action, mystery, magic, cultivation, and a broken game system that seems determined to make everything as hard as possible for the already overpowered protagonist, this LitRPG/GameLit series is perfect for readers who enjoy exploring rich worlds and complex characters.

Balancing his growing relationship with Ellie and the increasing productivity of the farm with the impending destruction of everything he fought for, John has no choice but to step back into the limelight, whether he wants to or not.

Hello all.
Anniversary of the release of Battle Avatars.
Can a game save your life?
David Grey is dying. His only chance for a cure is ley bending life force to transform his body from salesman to warrior. Living full time in the otherworld of Lenscape, leveling up, he must cultivate or die.
The series contains:
Organic group progression with a minor cheat. Slower progression pacing. Progression includes failure and minor setbacks. Smaller power level differences. Minor Slice-of-Life elements. A specialized protagonist. Focus on world and magic building. Plot driven by characters.
Yeah, it’s a great series! Follow on series is pretty solid too (Fury of a Rising Dragon, also complete now, although I do believe there are plans for another series, with the same cast, to follow).
The magic system there is a pretty good one, and it has a pretty great setting as well. The early books are possibly a little YA-ish for a lot of the recommendations you see on this sub, but still solid books, and do have some pretty dark topics throughout anyway. The newer ones still have a bit of a YA note, but not too heavily, and the books are well executed enough it doesn’t really get in the way for me.
Overall it’s absolutely one I’d recommend, and with nine books out, a spinoff and a sequel to the spinoff coming out soon-ish, and two complete main story arcs, each reasonably self contained, there’s a fair amount of content there to pick up, and it’s a good time to do it, with the current arc being complete. I’m fairly sure they’re all on KU as well, although I could be misremembering there.
But yeah, pretty damn solid series! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Arcane-Arinthian-Line-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00Q5M78KW should be the amazon page link, as I saw someone asking for it down here already lol
Yup, title says it all. I don't know what else to say except that I am praying for it's success
A cultivation fantasy published in light novel style.
On the surface, Xi Tianyi was the only son of Sword Empress Xi of the Buzhou Immortal Sect, the number one expert in the Huang Realm. His birth was noble, his status exalted. But the truth was that Xi Tianyi was actually a reincarnated man from a world known as Earth.
On Earth, he was no one special, but with his new life, Xi Tianyi aims to reign invincible: past, present, and future. Among his goals was to travel back to Earth and reunite with his family.
However, as Xi Tianyi proceeds further on his Immortal path, he discovers that rather than the protagonist, why does he seem more like the cannon fodder villain?
Maybe you'll find some gems in here!
Beulah's Grasp, Book 4 of The Voidbringer Campaign, is live on Amazon for paperback, Kindle, and Kindle Unlimited! A family-friendly progression fantasy story that follows 3 siblings' 5e D&D game, 90% in-game epicness and 10% out-of-game banter, this installment follows the characters from level 11 to level 13.
This is the perfect series to share with the younger readers in your life, written to be appropriate for all ages (though each book is still ~350 pages). It's a great introduction to litRPG and D&D/TTRPGs.

To celebrate the release of the 4th book in the Voidbringer Campaign, the first book in the series, Whispers of the Voidbringer, is FREE on Kindle until 11/19! See how it all began as Valduin, Adelaide, and Rose start their adventures and take up their quest to stop the evil Voidbringer.

My series, Ruin (Life and Death Cycle) hits a blend of your 1st and 4th points but in a different way. MC is born without the ability to cultivate at all, discovers a way to change that, gets forced into walking a path of life, but through insight, discovers he can steal the life from his enemies. Hence the Life and Death part. No plants or devices though.
The 5th point is a classic staple in many Cultivation novels I thought. All improvements are made on the back of pain and suffering. I'm strangely drawing a blank since It's been awhile since I read a cultivation story that included this.
Maybe Silver Fox and the Western Hero? I believe he uses methods of beating his body to toughen up strike points. Not exactly what you're talking about but similar vein.
Jade Phoenix is another cultivation story that is probably closer. MC gets subjected to various things during each advancement to get the most out of it. The painful, body abusing advancements are a min-max strategy that most die from so few use.
I can't really think of any others that would fit this criteria. But I don't read much on RR and I know there's a bit of something for everything there. A lot (or all) of these points are almost impossible to hit completely.
There are some excellent resources on the web for simple explanations about Hindu culture. For instance, this book has been monumentally helpful in understanding the Bhagavad Gita: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004DI7R5G/ref=kinw\_myk\_ro\_title
But I'm also Indian myself so that helps, and having relatives that know about the history and myths that I can lean is invaluable.
It's not every day you wake up in a mysterious world with a wiped memory and an AI system embedded into your consciousness.
For a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier, Jack sure is having a hard time adjusting to his new home.
It could be the fact that he's lost his memory and a God has taken up residence in his brain.
It may have something to do with the dark lord who's terrorizing the local population.
It might be because he's been kidnapped and forced to fight a succession of brutal monsters for the pleasure of the ruling classes.
Fortunately, Jack isn't alone. With four gorgeous female companions, a tribe of yetis, and a wizened sorcerer by his side, he'll expand his sphere of control and influence while outsmarting and outfighting anyone foolish enough to stand in his way.
Warning: This story contains unconventional relationships.
‘The Weight Of It All’ follows a boy named Terrence who is gifted the power to view weight by the Goddess. In a world where people are given affinities for cool things like swords, fire, and ice, he is initially underwhelmed to say the least… but over time his abilities grow, he Ranks up, and he comes to understand how powerful he really can be. Throughout the series, Terrence is used as the backdrop for a vast continent where dungeons, monsters, and the Goddess herself are all real.
And though Terrence is the main focus of the story, the series is often told from a couple different perspectives. While Terrence learns about his abilities, his uncle Tom, a more veteran dungeoneer, is followed through a dungeon crawl. The story juxtaposes the newness of Terrence as he goes to a ‘magic’ school for Dungeoneers against the real life threats facing a man who has spent years with his back against a wall. And while the first book is really an introduction to it all, the series covers a lot of ground as everyone grows stronger, people are lost, the whole continent goes to war, and Terrence must eventually face a challenge from the Goddess herself.
Book 6 releases on december 6th! Find the whole series here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08W8D1HXC
This book release has been a bit chaotic since I lost 140 pre-orders due to an issue with Amazon but the book is finally out!
For anybody interested, here is the summary:
They tasted defeat. Enemies are getting stronger. The caravan needs to move.
Monty saw defeat at the hands of the devils and death has reached the elven lands faster than anybody had expected. Hidden powers surge, mighty allies and enemies appear in the distance, and the nomad can do nothing but move on in the hope the caravan lives another day.
The elven lands have been left behind in the hope of greener plains and the goblin cities are around the corner. The others promise riches from rags, but there has to be more hidden underneath the sharp sun. A [Cleric] may never rest, after all.
If that sounded fun, here's the link to the Amazon page:
This is an older series but a favorite:
Daniel Keys Moran - The Continuing Time Series;
First Book is Emerald Eyes which is very good, but the second book, The Long Run is where the author really begins to shine.

If looking for another flavor of dungeon shenanigans, you might like the Divine Dungeon books.
It's a five-book series that has a split-perspective primarily between a new dungeon and a shepherd-turned-adventurer, with said new adventurer going through a lightweight version of cultivation that still hits a lot of the tropes you may expect from those kinds of stories. (There are other books in the same world, but those are not complete yet.)
Hello! The first book in my new series is out today! The Transcendent Green is an ApocaLitRPG progression fantasy with some cultivation elements, set in Scotland and chock-a-block full of craic. It also has lightning monsters, a teenage wannabe banshee, and--most importantly, I think you'll agree--an adorable Scottish wildcat kitten companion.
You can snag it here! (The book, not the kitten. They're endangered and it's the squirt bottle to the face for us if we try to cuddle one. I've checked.)
About the book:
Earth has ascended…
Magic tears through an unsuspecting planet of humans, bringing mythology and monsters to life—and providing humanity a chance to prove their mettle.
Old grudges die hard…
All Calum Green wants is to reach what remains of his family. Ninety miles of the Scottish Highlands stand between Calum and their home in coastal Oban. He does not want to make that trek with his cheating ex-girlfriend’s bestie at his side.
Eilidh MacIntosh has always disliked Calum, and now she’s armed with a bloody claymore on top of her haughty disdain. But the ascension directive is clear: humans cannot survive this new world alone—and they make an annoyingly good team.
With Calum’s magic and their combined bad luck, the unlikely duo accidentally trigger a rare ascension quest: to find the perpetrator of a dangerous, corrupt magic that could make all of humanity into an endangered species.
Contains strong language in the face of the end of the world. You've been warned.
I hope you enjoy it if you check it out!
Greetings!

Hello!
One month to go until the last book in my series 'The Weight Of It All' is released on December 6th, both on kindle and in audio. It's been a long time coming (trust me, I know lol), but I wanted to make sure that the audio released on the same day as the ebook.
I'm also using this month to finish the first book in my next series, so look out for that soon!
Anyways, for now, you can check out books 1-5 in my series 'The Weight Of It All' on kindle, kindle unlimited and in audio today.

Here's the description from book 1:
An Affinity.
Most humans never get one, but the Goddess gives everyone the opportunity when they turn 16.
With an Affinity, humans are given access to their internal energy and Skills. Magical powers that allow you to interact with the world in ways you could never imagine. When Terrence receives his Affinity, he is shocked to discover it has never been seen before within the Kingdom. Worse yet, his Affinity reinforces the thing he was made fun of for his entire life. His weight.
Follow Terrence as he uses his Affinity to progress with the hopes of becoming a Dungeoneer – someone who explores and conquers Dungeons. Discover a unique world where Terrence and his friends learn about their new abilities, their Affinities, and themselves. Their Skills will grow, and if they work hard enough, they might eventually Rank up!
I'll add a couple more recommendations to this thread:
Oh, Great! I was Reincarnated as a Farmer: A LitRPG Adventure by Benjamin Kerei. The protagonist has a history before arriving in a new world, and it shapes his decisions as he tries his hardest to avoid his fated profession of farmer.
Threadbare by Andrew Sieple. I recommend this novel a lot, as it's one my favorites in the genre. The protagonist is a teddy bear golem, but the adventure he goes on is anything but childish. Seriously, this is great LitRPG, and worth the read.
Hiya! I’m Mati Ocha and I write Scottish ApocaLitRPG and progression fantasy based in Scottish mythology and magic coming to earth and making our folk beliefs an exciting and messy new reality! You’ve heard of Nessie, but have you ever met a beithir? A fuath? A glaistig? Wait no longer!
I wanted to create a world where Earth is a cosmic oopsie—infused suddenly and catastrophically with magic that was meant for a planet that had earned it the hard way. With the arbiters of this calamity too far away to help and too experienced to expect humans could overcome the challenges, humanity is basically told “You’ve got magic! We’re sorry, but you’re babies and will likely die, soz. But if you don’t, there are no limits to what you can achieve! Not that you’ll get there, wee lambs. PEACE!”
The humans stuck with this situation have to learn everything the hard way: what is the ascension directive and why do these distant demigods figure our species will fail? What do you mean by “that thing that goes bump in the night is a boggart for real”? And most importantly, how do we survive?
Progression is based on connecting to the land itself and the people and creatures who make it home.
My first book in this world was Terra Incognita, which was part of the Inkfort Press Publishing Derby and has been out since the end of September. It’s a shorter one because Derby, and I’m launching the main series kicks off on Tuesday with The Transcendent Green. I’m basically a kid playing in a Scotland-sized sandbox and having a ball. I hope you will too! Contains much swearing and, as one reviewer noted, apparently blasphemy? If you don’t mind that kinda thing 😅
Anyway, mahoosive thanks for letting me get my gremlin paws on this post and thanks for giving my books a go if you do! 😄
Hi all! If you follow the publishing derby in Reddit Serials, you might know me from my book Terra Incognita! My series’ main storyline kicks off Tuesday the 8th with The Transcendent Green, a Scottish ApocaLitRPG/Progression Fantasy.
It’ll be in KU, and I’m working on paperback and audio, but that could be a wee bit. 👀 I hope you enjoy it if you pick it up! raises glass Slàinte mhath!

For a live stream dungeon crawl premise that is significantly less grimdark than DCC, I'd 100% recommend Rise of the Winter Wolf. The third book just came out. It's on KU.

Beware of Chicken harvested many tears with the most recent chapter!
The first volume was published on Amazon a bit ago, while the other chapters are still up on Royal Road.
The premise is majority slice-of-life in a cultivation world, where the protagonist finds himself added to a body whose previous operator just suffered a massive beatdown from fellow sect members. Protagonist "nopes" out of continuing at the sect, goes off to a region infamous for being weak, and he starts up a farm.
Cultivation shenanigans do still manage to take place, in large part due to the use of qi to farm, and the titular chicken, which is the first of the farm's animals to awaken as a Spirit Beast.
Hi all,
My LitRPG/Progression fantasy, Falling With Folded Wings, has officially released today, November 1st.
Links:
Synopsis:
Stranded on a hostile planet, one man finds himself thrust into a fight for survival that could decide the fate of an entire world . . .
As an engineer on the arkship Pilgrim-9, bound for the Tau Ceti solar system, Morgan Hall thought his life would revolve around maintaining and repairing the ship and supporting the needs of the five thousand colonists aboard. But when he’s roused early from a 240-year stasis, he’s confronted with chaos.
Along with his shipmates, Morgan is brought down to a planet teeming with peril. Forced to fight for their survival without any of their tech to hand, they must adapt quickly to overcome countless threats in a world where magic is as real as science. Eventually, they begin to create a new existence for themselves.
But just as they’re beginning to feel at home, Morgan and his fellow humans discover the planet is already inhabited by intelligent life-forms—and this native species is cunning, powerful, and all too lethal . . .
Hi all,
Book 3 of the Grand Game is finally here. All three books are part of an epic LitRPG saga on Kindle Unlimited, and follows the journey of Michael, a lone player--sometimes assassin, sometimes caster--but always fiercely independent.
If you read the books, let me know what you think!
Happy reading,
Tom
The Adelheid Series
I just recently released Book 2. To Book 1 is one sale for only $1.99.
A Tale of Ambition and Power
A soul from Earth awakens as Seventh Princess Adelheid of the Vuldar Empire. With a weak body but a monstrous reservoir of mana that threatens her very life, Adelheid engraves an oath into her very soul. She shall seize the throne at all costs, but with ambitious cousins and discontent nobles, her father and brother are far from her only rivals.
Experience Adelheid's journey through victory and loss to achieve her deepest desires.
Worthiness isn't given but taken.
After her twelfth birthday, Adelheid von Vuldar, must take the next step for her ascension to the throne, the Reginnaglar Ceremony. For generations, members of the imperial family have tested their mettle in dungeons to prove their abilities, and now, it's Adelheid's turn. Leading her fledging band of knights, Adelheid must delve deep into the Byrgir Dungeon and shorten her distance to the throne.
But as Adelheid soon discovers, monsters are far from the worst dangers within the dungeon.
That's the entire basis of my book, Ruin (Life and Death Cycle). Western cultivation-style magic system like Cradle.
MC gets forced into aspecting into life essence, which everyone knows only cowards and non-combatives gravitate towards. Its completely non-lethal as life essence only allows for healing. He discovers things are not what everyone believes.
The next book in the series, Sacred Flame, is almost done. About 1/3 of the way complete with the editing. Should release in November.
I can't think of any other books off the top of my head where useless abilities become strong through insight or luck. The more common trope is starting off with an OP ability.
I would highly recommend these two, as someone who has read and enjoyed every book you listed (aside from Defiance, just couldn’t get into it):
https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/48917/the-hero-without-a-past
Hero without a past is a RR serial and it’s one of the only fics I Patreon.
https://www.amazon.com/The-Rise-of-the-Winter-Wolf-3-book-series/dp/B0B5N3L76X
Winter wolf’s third book came out today coincidentally, and there’s more to read on Royal Road and Patreon. It’s also one of the only fics I support on Patreon.
Both are easy series to read and are criminally under recommended on this subreddit. They’re both apocalyptic litRPGs but are quite different. HWaP takes place on earth where an alien invasion has begun, and people start getting powers; many elements remind me of Worm. (Speaking of Worm, you should read Worm if you haven’t already! It’s completed and regarded as one of the best webserials of all time. I binged it over a winter break in college and it was phenomenal.)
In contrast, Winter Wolf’s premise has all of humanity teleported off world for a tutorial. A small percent are randomly selected to be tower climbers, with the climb broadcasted for all of the universe to see, kinda like Dungeon Crawler Carl (but not nearly as grimdark/sinister/bleak). (Also big rec for DCC but not sure if it will help with your stress lol.)
Anyway, hope one of those suits your tastes! Happy reading.
Shameless self plug- The First Tail, book one in The Nine Tails of Alchemy. A slice of life story that follows the struggles, and successes of a Kitsune protagonist.
Book two is on RR, with book one on KU.
