I had the exact same experience back in September. Racked up $150 in fines before I even knew I was being ticketed.
NYC has an app called “NYC Pay or Dispute” that allows you to look up your license plate and see if there are any active tickets associated with it. Doesn’t offer much detail, but at least you’ll know if there’s a ticket coming:

No, orientation doesn't matter. I know you have your placement, I got this and love it. Easy to install, very stable at speed and can take on/off

The thing that works the best for me is a water circulating vest. I have one from Veskimo but looks like they are no longer selling them. I see some on Amazon but not sure how good those are.
Nothing beats active cooling/heating if money isn't a problem. I can ride in traffic on 90 degree days with the Veskimo and a Aerostich suit.
I was trying to draw a map of the route I take but it wasnt being friendly...
I'm coming from Hoboken , I head up 17 to Tuxedo and come in from the south end. I do a full loop of seven lakes drive, sometimes do the road from Lookout tower to the Entrance on 9w a couple of times and then head down 9w and across 10 in Stony Point. - hopefully my mapping skills work this time around: MyRoute
I’m really happy with this one - it’s not expensive, it’s holding up year round for more than two years, and the best feature is that it has two “belts” underneath. One goes behind the front wheel, the other through the spokes of the rear.
I know you have heated grips but in case you want heated gloves, this is what I use. My hands are extremely sensitive to cold compared to most people and this does wonders.
You don't need to shell out $100+. Back in 2017 I bought this helmet from Amazon for ~$48. It's not available for that price anymore, but I did make use of it in a crash once-- low speeds at an intersection, but my head hit a car. The helmet was still usable after, just scratched up a lot. Now idk how well this helmet would do at highway speeds, but I'm sure something closer to $100 should be fine.
Most noise is from wind, you can try using a "motorcycle helmet wind blocker"
do you see the screw? if yes and if it is not at the side of the tire - use tire repair kit. I used this one and it works very good - https://www.amazon.com/Dynaplug-Tubeless-Tire-Repair-Tool/dp/B00BBE7KAM/ref=sr_1_14?gclid=CjwKCAjwk_WVBhBZEiwAUHQCmZi0p1kmhKMQ7-mSnUzGYhkrJn1teG7Z1pB0_A829Nufl3fSJPGPvRoCQIcQAvD_BwE&hvadid=583772026521&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9004364&hvne...
if you deal with dealerships only you will always going to loose money on the parts as they install only originals. there are plenty of aftermarkets parts - particularly tires at Denis Kirk to fit your bike.
If I relied only on original wheels from HD - they are backordered till September
I use decibullz
To be totally honest, I rarely use them for around the city- but I always use them for any highway riding. Generally, it isn’t the street noise that will mess up your hearing - but rather the constant wind noise from highway riding. IMO earplugs are a must for any highway riding.
I ride with foam disposable earplugs all the time. Never did this until a few years ago.
Holy hell, the with and without earplugs difference is astonishing. Even with a full helmet, the wind noise is intense so earplugs are a great help in cutting down the noise. Big improvement, esp on long trips.
I have these: Howard Leight
https://www.amazon.com/NOCO-GC002-Eyelet-Terminal-Connector/dp/B004LWQ35Y --> this goes on your battery and hangs off a part of your bike that is exposed and not under a fairing
https://www.amazon.com/NOCO-GENIUS1-Fully-Automatic-Temperature-Compensation/dp/B07W46BX31/ ---> goes to plug and then to the piece in part 1
Youll keep your battery alive for half a decade if you have a yuasa and keep it in for the winters
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09FSTSNH4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Id recommend getting a pair with a remote or bluetooth, or if you are hand, you can make a cable extender that goes all the way up your pants Other wise to turn them off you will need to be able to pull your pants cuffs up or pull your pants pretty much off to turn them on or off.
I wear long johns and these socks then my armored jeans (slimg fit) over. thats been enough for my legs to stay relatively comfortable for 30-40 mins, haven't done longer. Usually its my hands are the limiting factor at this point.
So you can just take a bucket of water and just pour a couple of buckets over the brake calipers to clean off the salt or you can use one of these like me: WORX WG620 Hydroshot 20V Power Share 320 PSI Portable Power Cleaner https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089F8LZ57/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_A5KFJ6553FA6BJ7TEXWQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I’ve found that the lower psi makes it a good choice generally bike cleaning because it doesn’t get so powerful as to get water in strange spots but it’s enough to clean off the bike and also to wash the bike with the foamed attachment
If it’s just a patch you’re better off just doing it yourself. Try using a dynaplug or one of the mushroom plugs (unless you have a spoked wheel/tube - which complicates things a bit.)
It’s not gonna be fast and cheap if you take it to a shop, so you should probably levelset your expectations. FYI a lot of shops are pretty backed up this time of year. If you can’t get it to a shop, it’s going to cost you to tow the bike. If you take the wheel off the bike and bring it in, expect to pay $40-60. It’ll be more if the shop has to take the wheel off the bike for you.
If it’s just a puncture on the tread, and your tire is tubeless, you may be able to DIY with a dynaplug or something similar.
Hmm... I get a page not found from that link. But using the product number I found this:
If that's it, then... no can doosville, baby. (Sorry that just popped into my head, lol...) This is what I'm working with-

Corbin does have a ton of different materials you can chose from so some of them might alleviate the sliding forward problem (at least to some extent), but certainly no guarantee. And, for $500, I personally wouldn’t want to play that guessing game.
I’ve heard good things about the Mustang Solo Tripper seat and you can get it from Amazon for a little over $300 with free returns so that could be something to explore.

On a side note, I got my Rebel 500 after having a Vespa GTS 300 for a year and man was that seat nice. Haven’t found a motorcycle seat yet that matches that level of comfort.
I've been using this battery powered pump for 2 years now. Works very well on my bike, and SUV. Holds a charge for a very long time. There is likely a newer version out by now.

https://www.amazon.com/DownBeats-Reusable-Fidelity-Hearing-Protection/dp/B00A3Z44R2
Got these in 2019 for concerts and they are still going strong. Use them every time I ride, can clean them by just submerging in hot water and wiping them off. My issue with a lot of other plugs is the little stem part pushes up against my helmet and makes it uncomfortable. These don't have that problem.
Having the case clipped on to my keychain doesn't hurt.
I just use the 3M orange safety ones. They have a built in blue chord that links them but doesn’t get in the way. Definitely reusable, great sound blocking, and cheap ($7x3).
3M Corded Reusable Earplugs, 3-Pair with Case (90716-80025T)
Can I also recommend an alarm lock? I use a disc lock with an audible alarm and I feel like it’s a decent deterrent for would-be thieves. It was $25 on Amazon. They also make padlocks with audible alarms you can use on the chain: Alarm Lock, Universal Security Anti-Theft Padlock 110db Waterproof Siren Alarm Lock Zinc Alloy Keyed Padlock for Motorcycle Bicycle Door Window (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SQ49FL8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_RH9R74HFC8QK1H5T13DJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Maybe go 5000K? It's supposed to be brighter anyway.
I swapped out my H4 bulb for what was labeled as a 6500K LED bulb (This model.)
It was a direct swap in, and I did minimal re-adjusting. It's significantly brighter than the stock incandescent bulb that I had in there, but it doesn't blind oncoming traffic. It may vary by headlight housing type, but I have a standard 7" Bucket type headlight on my Triumph. It's important to make sure that if you're doing anything non-OEM on there that you take the time to properly aim your bulb, which you can find instructions on here.
I've had no grief from police whatsoever.
Nothing annoys me more as a biker or driver than douchebags who put super bright bulbs in their car and don't do any aim adjustment whatsoever. Aftermarket LED bulbs have a very different throw pattern than standard incandescent bulbs.
An additional thing you might want to consider is swapping out your brake bulb for a flasher. Mine just flashes 3X every time I activate the brake light, and I believe it helps drivers and riders behind me pay more attention and reduces the odds of getting rear-ended.
I have both AGM and Lithium batteries in my outdoor bikes. There have been days that the AGM bike starts but not the Lithium ion. And days that the lithium ion starts but not the AGM. It’s been enough of an issue / annoyance that I pretty much always have a mobile power jumper charged and ready anytime I plan to go out.
It is annoying to take the seats off my cruisers but it does the trick. Hopefully if you have a sports bike it won’t be as hard to access the battery.
The jumper works great but it is annoying that sometimes I can’t get a good grip and need to back the lead bolts out a bit to properly clamp em.

I see a lot of people talking about heated grips and hippo hands. I just bought some heated lobster style mittens (with a free index) by Savior on Amazon and I've been totally fine so far.

If I needed more I would just add a wool liner, and I expect that to be good for the rest of this season unless we suddenly get down below 5-10.
The next thing I would add are bark busters. Those are going to do the most imo because they block all that wind that is the biggest culprit. Not nearly as ugly as the HippoHands. Heated grips are the last thing I would buy tbh. They're a luxury for those in between days in the 50-60s where you might not want to wear the heavy gloves, but not nearly as practical for the cost as they're only heating the inside of your hands while the outside still catches the wind.
A friend of mine released an app last summer for finding curvy roads. It uses OpenStreetMap data and figures out the curviness from a mathematic perspective so it's not dependent on users posting routes.

Hasn’t happened to me yet, but I’m not planning on making it easy for assholes when it does happen. I keep one of these brake clamps on whenever I park.
I have and use a Kryptonite 5ft. Fahgettaboudit Chain and New York Disc Lock. It's very heavy, when I can't anchor it to something I wrap it twice around and through the rim, also have a disk lock in the front and I use a really awful dirty on the outside cover.
Thing to remember with thieves and locks is that it is not so much that you are trying to stop them from stealing your property or entering your home, you are making it as difficult as possible for them so that they move onto an easier option. Most theft is opportunity and a small window of time. Increase the window of time needed for the theft and it works in your favor.
This is more of a home lock than a travel lock, that being said when I've travelled with it I wrapped it with an old tee shirt and put it in a sissy bar bag. The weight shift was interesting on the first turn. :)
ed: I also have a Kryptonite New York Bicycle Disc Lock which I mentioned earlier but didn't link to. This is what I use for travel around, it has a bright yellow disc lock reminder cord that is visible to you so you don't drive with it on and visible for passers-by so they hopefully passby.
So do you run a cable through your front wheel? I've got a bike club jr I will throw through the hub at times - do you throw a chain around something like that?
