To tell you the truth. An ankle wrap like
Tubi Wrap is awesome: (get one for ankle)
or the M-Brace
These did wonders for me and best of all secure ankle till you feel good while wearing any shoe. But if looking to skip that stuff and go with a shoe. Hoka Arahi, Asics Keyano, or Hoka Gaviottas are fine.
Was it these some old Reeboks? They made a few versions in this flexible boxed outsole design so this may not be the exact pair your remembering, but hope this is at least in the right direction
I've found that the low-cost Saucony Bolt Performance and Saucony Comfort Fit Performance socks work really well for the AP3 for me. My feet are slightly on the wider side in the forefoot area so thicker socks don't work for me in many shoes. I have some no-brand thicker socks for something like the Prime X Strung, Invincible Run 2, and SC Trainer as well as some trail running shoes that are roomy in the toe box area.
I also have the pricey Bombas socks that work really well but I try not to use them too often. Haha. Cheaper socks work just fine most of the time as long as you find the right thicknesses. I have thicker wool socks for wide version shoes that I only use in cooler weather. It's not easy finding the right socks for each shoe and takes some trial and error.
I also prefer the DN2 over the ES3 in the same way I prefer the AP3 over the EP3. I think some of it has to do with the DN2 and AP3 having less of a toe drop than the ES3 and EP3. I didn't find the ES3 comfortable after around 6~8 miles but I could easily go well over 10 miles with the DN2. The DN2 just chugs you along nicely in nice comfort but I'd start feeling some discomfort on the bottom of my forefoot with the ES3 after a while. I noticed the EP3 has a similar thing going on but not quite as much.
Preface: I'm not a doctor.
Did your broken ankle result in pronation issues? Have you tried a neutral shoe since recovery? Are you doing/have you done any PT for your ankle? Are you continuing to do some strength training to make sure that your ankle is strong? This is probably a discussion to have with a PT or primary care physician because of your injury. A stability shoe can give you extra support to help with the natural pronation issues you may have either before or after breaking your ankle, but it won't really help strengthen a weak ankle. With natural pronation issues, you can also work to correct those issues through PT and strength training.
All this to say, be sure a stability shoe is what you need and not just what you think you need. Maybe a couple days of cross training and PT would be better than a stability shoe?
To offer a suggestion - Would you be alright to go with something like a Saucony Ride 15 TR and pair that with a soft ankle wrap for additional ankle support to help mitigate risks of reinjury due to a weak ankle?
Well, what kind of shoes did you get IAT in?
First thing that you should do is begin eccentric calf raises now. Do them at a minimum every day, ideally 2-3x per day.
There's an acute phase where you need to get relief for the tendon. So no running hills, use 12mm drop shoes, etc. Also shoes with a soft or no heel counter help - in the old days I used to literally cut the heel counter out. Wear something like Crocs (not for running) when you can get away with it. Maybe 6-8 weeks.
You can get adjustable heel lifts for very cheap to modulate the amount of lift in a given pair of shoes, I've used something like this in the past: https://www.amazon.com/Premium-Adjustable-Orthopedic-Length-Discrepancies/dp/B01DL7FDGY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?crid=JDJGPHQT3OE3&keywords=adjustable+heel+lift&qid=1670155413&sprefix=adjustable+heel%2Caps%2C113&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&a...
Once the acute phase goes away it's time to build strength and flexibility. In addition to doing the eccentric calf raises and deep knees-over-toes squats, I would transition into 8mm shoes for running and zero drop shoes for lifestyle whenever possible. Then maybe you can even go a step down from there. You should build some strong and healthy tendons this way, but keep doing the calf raises.
Thanks. I just bought SmartWool Merino Run Mid-Crew. We will see how they do. Thanks for the tip.

The Icetrax v3 ones are shown on running shoes in the video, and are cheap.
Kahtoola stuff is really good though, so who knows......
here you go! and thank you! I definitely invested, im going to give it a rest on buying shoes but my next shoe will be a super shoe!
Read many good things about New Balance 860 and 1080 for people with MN but my local shop only had Altra shoes, so I went with Altra Torin 6 and they have been great so far.
I try to ice the MN area as much as possible and use a freezable roller. I also tape around my 2nd toe while running as a little spacer, which seems to help too
As I said, these is my first running shoes. It's way higher than anything I've had before. I get the sensation of falling on my side.
I was running with these prior to getting the novablast.
Total stab-in-the-dark, but you could try something like this in case you ever need to take the insole out. I'd spray the bottom of the insole then place it.

I'm considering these black/gold and white/gold laces, and also some other beige laces.
Any suggestions appreciated!
I had similar issues. Balega anti blister socks helped significantly but also I used Engo Blister Patches and problem solved!
If you search “cloud slipper” seems like there are some similar looking items that are even cheaper than the one I got/linked above
You can always take the liner out and put them in the wash with some white vinegar.
Then get the big boy: https://www.amazon.com/DryGuy-Forced-Boot-Dryer-Garment/dp/B010A5J5FU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2T8RCREL5HKJQ&keywords=boot+dryer&qid=1663545036&sprefix=boot+d%2Caps%2C137&sr=8-3
I bought this to take with us on our trip, thinking that same thing, but my wife and kids got priority drying, leaving mine to air dry for 2 days. I think they may be last the point of return. 😔. May try taking the liner out, doing a baking soda/water scrub and then letting them sit in the sun for a few hours tomorrow.
I have been using fitfeet inserts for a few years:

Yes, exactly the same spot. Luckily I detected the issue on a long run before race day. I put the blister pads on the first time for race day, they have stayed on since then with no issues. I too was a little concerned since I put it halfway on the sole and halfway on the side (upper material) to cover the trouble area. But it has stayed put ever since. Have worn them for 2 marathons and probably 4 long runs. No blisters or discomfort whatsoever. And plenty of sweaty wet shoes at the end of each run. You can tell when you put these pads in that they are very sticky and will probably not come off anytime soon, so be sure to get it right the first time.
Personally highly recommend these patches, whether for these or any future shoes.
Best thing I got was an Amazon waistband that fits my phone and keys. I love the freedom feeling of nothing other than shorts on my legs during the runs.
Not Tinman color, but somehow even cheaper on Amazon in black with full women's size run: https://www.amazon.com/adidas-Womens-SL20-3-Running-Black/dp/B091M9KTRJ?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref\_=fplfs&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1&psc=1
I've only ran 40K with them, but very pleased so far. I've liked them so much that I've purchased another pair, this time in all black color.
I've bought both pairs from Amazon.es (https://www.amazon.es/adidas-Terrex-Zapatillas-Running-Hombre/dp/B08BWYQ9ZF/ref=sr\_1\_1?\_\_mk\_es\_ES=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=1OTOYKW25L78P&keywords=terrex%2Bspeed%2Bflow&qid=1658939320&sprefix=terrex%2Bspeed%2Bflow%...)

yes you are correct. its not that I am a nut job but its 100 degrees with 100 percent humidity and I was stupid and took some outside jobs. I am not happy having to change all my clothes every 2 hours. I found some ultra thin shirts with uv protection which I am excited about. its just so hot here you sweat through a shirt in 20 minutes and then you cant even take it off because its clinging to you.

Same issue.
Engo Oval Blister Prevention... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003URZNW0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Bought some of these and haven’t had an issue since. I wear Injinji lightweight crew socks almost exclusively.
I’m not sure which Fresh Foam model you have, but I’ve found New Balance heels to work great for me. If you’re considering a new pair, the newest 1080v12, the RC Elite v2, and the Rebel v2 have all felt great on my achilles. If you like a firmer/lower stack shoe, the Adidas Adios 6 also works great with the notched heel.
As a potential stopgap, I used these super cheap tongue pads to add a bit of extra cushion under the laces while dealing with that foot pain. It may make the shoe a bit hotter, but they seemed to work well for me as I recovered.
Best of luck working through it!
If you’re looking to replace all your crappy cotton socks, as I was, there is a great bulk pack of saucony crew socks that I love (97% poly, 3% elastane) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KFLZDZF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_BFCKMM08M11Q6PE5X3RS
Mine also hurt like hell after a couple miles of jogging. I ended up removing the insoles and replacing them with these ones: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MQJDQFF. The pain is gone
These seem right in the range you listed? https://www.amazon.ae/Nike-Pegasus-Sneaker-Black-White-Anthracite-Volt/dp/B08QB8NSN1/ref=sr\_1\_3?keywords=nike+nike+air+zoom+pegasus&qid=1650292428&sr=8-3
If you otherwise like the shoes and the insole is removable, you can replace it with something like a thin neutral insole (e.g. Spenco RX Comfort Thin). It may change how the shoes fit and feel in a way that you might not like, though.
My outsole would usually be a lot more worn out, but spent 3-4 months running with these on in snow/ice: https://www.amazon.ca/ICETRAX-Winter-Grips-Shoes-Boots/dp/B07ZJN36G3/
You can see the outside heel is a bit worn because it was exposed, but would be way worse if I'd used them on pavement. Either way - by time it's completely gone and eating up the ZoomX foam itself it'll probably be ready to retire anyways, and as long as it's causing huge traction issues that are dangerous I wouldn't worry about it
I used the insoles from my Skechers Arch Fit Paradyme shoes and they've worked well. I've searched the Skechers website and they state that they do not sell the insoles separately:
"Where can I find replacement insoles?
Our shoes fit any standard insoles you can find at your local merchants, such as sporting goods or retail stores, that carry shoe accessories. We do not sell or stock replacement insoles at this time and apologize for the inconvenience."
With that said, I've used before Dr Scholl insoles and they're great products. You can give them a try.
Saucony works well for me.

I have the 85T. Great sound quality, noise cancelling, and one of the most comfortable earbuds I ever tried. I run 4 hours a week using them on a single charge, and I am sure I could squeeze another hour or two so basically I just charge them once a week. The only issue I ran into, they are not really designed for running, they keep getting loose and I had to keep adjusting them as I am running. I fixed that by buying spinfit silicone eartips after a lot of research. Now they fit perfectly.

Its an adidas shoe, they marketed it poorly as a vaporfly competitor for $180 in like 2018. It was not, (it was put on sale 6months after release for $90). It is however a nicely cushioned flat that is real nice for 10k maybe up to a half if you are tough.
Ironically if they had called it a flat and sold it for $130, i think it would have done well.
Ive seen it on ebay/amazon for $60-$90.

Generally when they talk about something working well “slower paces” they mean relative to themselves, and not a specific speed.
So let’s say your 5k best is 25 minutes, you shouldn’t be running at that 5 minute/km pace for every single run. You should only be running at that pace for a “high tempo” run.
You should do some of your running at a much slower pace than this, 55 to 75% slower than your fastest 5k. So for a 25 minute PB, you should be doing your “slower paced” (usually longer, but doesn’t really matter about distance) runs at 6 to 7 minutes per km. You could also use heart rate zones to measure this instead of pace.
This is what is referred to as a “slow pace” when looking at shoe reviews. It is relative to you, not a specific speed.
This calculator is a good easy way to measure what these paces are relative to you https://www.omnicalculator.com/sports/training-pace
That’s the one I have. 8 months later and it’s still holding up like new. Pro tip: use it barefoot. If not, the sock material can stick to the grip and begin to peel it up when you step off. Doesn’t affect its use or anything though.
I use this one.
It has an ad free version you can pay for, but the free version works fine without issues. (the ads are a splash screen and some bottom of the screen scrolling types, so not really intrusive)
Has audio to call out what you must do, including voice, beeps and vibration - in the /r/C25K Faq, there are others as well, but this one works fine for me
Still works even if you switch off the screen of the phone and will run with Strava as long as you start this app first, then Strava

There's an episode of The Real Science of Sport Podcast called, "The Shoe that Broke Running" that goes through what the Vaporfly do in a really technical way. It's far from the only issue but they come to the conclusion that the stack height makes an appreciable difference over marathon distance.
Here's where I found the picture in the post. The description, translated from German, reads:
Podium worthy. On and off the court. Building on an award-winning year, the Endorphin Speed 2 is back with its just-right combination of ultra-lightweight PWRRUN PB cushioning and a flexible nylon plate. It shines in speed work as well as long miles, training and race day. Finally, a shoe that works as hard as you do. GOOD TO KNOW - SPEEDROLL technology propels you forward with the feel of a continuous swing. Its two core variables are increased cushioning and a stiff forefoot that combine for an instantly responsive ride so you can run faster, not harder. - The Endorphin Speed 2 combines the ultra-light and springy cushioning of the PWRRUN PB with a full-length, semi-rigid nylon plate that is more flexible than carbon fiber, resulting in a powerful SPEEDROLL effect that works for both speed workouts and races. - We worked with our athletes to fine-tune the heel shape and fit to create a locked-in feel mile after mile. - This style incorporates recycled materials.

In that case: yes.
I am not saying their service level is 100%, but it is a legit store
What I have they work well enough and decently ventilated. Instructions suck for them, but once you get the first one put together the others are stupidly simple, and easy to do.
I use these racks The metal shelves are great for letting shoes air out all around, and I put my trail shoes in the bottom shelf. I also have a small silicone mat underneath to catch any debris and mud.
superfeet I get these. But read up on them and look at others. These work for me. Doesn’t always mean they are right for you. But when input my foot In it’s crazy the difference I feel on my arch.
Saucony Canyon Tr and the Saucony Peregrine 11 do the job for me.
The Canyon Tr is specifically marketed as both a trail & road shoe. The Peregrine is probably better for strictly trails. I plan on using both on slushy, snowy roads this winter, however.
TSLA compression shirts on Amazon are great and cheap. I can wear that and a running jacket in 30 degrees and be comfortable. Here’s the link: TSLA 1 or 2 Pack Men's Thermal Long Sleeve Compression Shirts, Athletic Base Layer Top, Winter Gear Running T-Shirt https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096M3J6VY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_X8ST3RBJTQF0SCKM2H1C
Run in your current Saucony Endorphin Speeds. On days when it's cold or there are puddles of icy water, wear Sealskinz. If it's icy and you got to get out, wear Yaktrax Run. That's a better and less expensive way to deal with our winter weather than getting a waterproof shoe. Disclaimer: This does not apply to (dirt) trail running.
I got these for $20 a couple years ago and they work fine. They don't fall out of my ear either. 😂
Anyone try running at night with one of these (or similar)? Was thinking about trying one and replacing my normal camping head lamp.

Adidas Solar Boost 19. They are for running but look like a casual shoe. I got them in all white so I doubt I'll ever take them for a run since they'd get instantly filthy.
Also on Amazon if you have the Prime Visa and want an additional 5% off.
This will probably be an unfashionable opinion but I really like wearing fleece-lined tights with some running shorts for cold winter days. I really like the TSLA tights and they are very reasonably priced (not sure if they are available in Canada). I've used those down around the -15C to -22C range and they kept me fairly warm.
That's weight per pair.
Pros and cons to both, and Salomon makes great, great trail shoes across their lineup. Shoes w/embedded spikes are convenient, if the fit matches your feet, just not anywhere near as versatile compared to a top-quality set of spikes. You can add quality "slip on" spikes to any shoe you have, say your favourite Torrents, or Goretex whatever, with total weigh well under the weight of the Salomon's (400g in size 8 listed on MEC).
Financially, it's much easier for a new winter runner to pony up ~$75CAD to add, say the EXOSpikes, to the shoe(s) they already own and are comfortable running in, then add more w/experience (or not) and get multiple seasons out of them, then to drop over $230CAD for the Salomon's or La Sportiva's w/embedded spikes, despite being terrific shoes in and of themselves. Especially if you have Yeti-sized feet, which neither shoe will entertain comfortably.
I see. Is $100 out of your budget? The Novablast is an amazing, durable shoe and they look sweet ASICS Men's Novablast Running Shoes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PKKX2JW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8YP61MRZD3M4Y9Z7Y79H?psc=1
Are the New Balance 990v5 worth almost $200? Seems expensive as hell. I plan to use them for walking everyday and maybe running.
Are you female? This is the way Amazon bra with pocket!
Belts make my stomach hurt. I also love my salamon vest but it’s a little hot for around town.
I have a few pair of the 5" Baleaf shorts with a zippered pocket on the back. They are some of my favorite shorts and very reasonably priced. They do have a liner but maybe you can check their store to see if they have an unlined version.
I always feel completely fine until I start running! My solutions are 1) Salomon vest, 2) this amazing sport’s bra from Amazon. $20 and it’s a freaking game changer… pocket bra
Store would be better to try on, but these are $45 at the moment, show free returns for me, and are regularly suggested as one of the better values in running shoes:
They make these to protect your hat/shape in the washing machine. It doesn’t have to be washed a lot, but every now and then is probably good for you and the hat
Lock laces. Link here if you're in the UK.
I've been a broken record on this, but if you need them today, the Reebok Run Fast 2 is currently $45 +/- on amazon (try the Black/Flublu/Vivdor or Deep Cobalt/Horizon Blue/Chalk colorways): https://www.amazon.com/Reebok-Floatride-Flublu-Vivdor-Medium/dp/B08P5MCLLT
Another option might be the Kinvara 11 that you can find for $60 or $70 on a lot of sites.
I tried this option and found unless they are tights with pockets the phone giggles too much while running. Instead I use a minimal backpack. The one I have is called gearBeast running backpack. Just enough room for a phone, small keys, and 1 gel. I think it’s now listed @ $25 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FMWAGMC?ref=myi_title_dp
Asics Noosa Tri 13 for the win. Your son will love the colorway too, so parenting win as well.
Also, you can get him some lock laces for any shoe. They make transition a cinch.
There is also something called "hard trail" shoes - I own a pair of them as I have several routes that are single track and gravel. They feel more like road shoes but still have track to not slip on muddy single track.
Again NOT saying these are the same as SmartWool; but if you or anyone else is interested in filling their drawers with a few more Marino wool socks without sacrificing dinner, I've been enjoying the Enerwear Marino socks I got on Amazon. Yup, I've done exactly that. For whatever reason I don't have issues with zero drop on trails (guessing there is enough undulating from step to step to not deal with repetition stressing my achilles), but zero drop on the road gives me lower leg issues. Kinda weird since I ran my first marathon in 2013 in Altras, but since then things tighten up. Every now and then I'll review some road Altras and I use these to prevent injury. They're great.

So I am over 100 miles in that second pair now and I haven't had any of the issues that I had with the first pair. I would say they are TTS but I also have a spenco insole under the sockliner so it is possible it takes up just the right amount of volume vertically to where it doesn't really matter too much how tightly I tie the shoes. I pretty much have never had lock down issues that I can remember but if I did it probably would have been during the summer when they got too wet due to sweat.

Here's that one, I definitely recommend it. My wife and I also share a taller metal one that holds the shoes at an angle, that's for our non-running shoes, and shoes keep falling off of it.
Thanks, I definitely favor Saucony and New Balance the last few years, and especially Mizuno of late, but I'm pretty open minded. I've got a few Brooks and Altras that recently left the active roster.
I like the Atreyus a lot. There's a great simplicity to them, and their super light weight is great. The quality and finish are fine, not exceptional but they don't necessarily feel cheap. The upper is pretty spartan, and they are borderline flimsy around the heel, but if you don't need lots of support you probably won't have issues. Durability isn't amazing, but you can't have everything. Fit is pretty straightforward, the toebox is adequately wide.
I'm very exicted for their plated shoe coming next year.
