Doing it in AWS was mainly because I don't have root on the machines I have access to at work, so I couldn't install the tools I needed. AWS gives you that in a few clicks.
From there all I did was write a script that uses wkhtmltopdf to generate the screenshot, and then copies the result somewhere that I've given Destin access to.
I added the script to cron and told it to run every 15 minutes. Now I can forget about it until I run out of disk space at the target location, run out of my free quota on AWS, or someone reminds me :)
FYI /u/MrPennywhistle you linked to different apps than the ones you show in the video. The ones you show in the video are the $1.99 apps. The ones you link to are free helper apps that don't do what you described.

>This machine was inspired by dreaming about gear ratios and considering the unexpected implications of exponential powers.
>Each worm/worm gear pair reduces the speed of the motor by 1/50th. Since there are 12 pairs of gears, the final speed reduction is calculated by (1/50)^12. The implications are quite large. With the motor turning around 200 revolutions per minute, it will take well over two trillion years before the final gear makes but one turn. Given the truth of this situation, it is possible to do anything at all with the final gear, even embed it in concrete.
Wikipedia lists the actual time for a complete revolution as roughly a mere 13.7 billion years.
I recommend reading the youtube comments for interesting scenarios (first time that statement has ever been made?).
Also Metafilter's take.
I've been finding it difficult to get the timing perfect on this, so I've edited a little autohotkey script I found online to make it much easier.
This should press press the space bar quick enough, to move on exactly one frame every second. Press ctrl space to start, and ctrl q to stop. Once the dominos get close to touching, I've used this to get a much more accurate result
^Space::
trigger=0
while trigger=0
{
send {space}
sleep 1
send {space}
sleep 1000
}
return
^q::trigger=1
If you don't have autohotkey, you can download it here
If you don't have the appropriate software, VLC (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.en-GB.html) is free and works with most file types. The latest version lets you advance one frame with the "e" key, play/pause = space and skip 1 second with "shift+left/right". Unfortunately, it doesn't let you go back one frame for unclear reasons.
You could also use a tobacco humidifier, that is basically the same thing but seems to be much cheaper on amazon.
What?: I was browsing the interwebs recently and I stumbled upon this piece of software called IOGraphica - an unobtrusive mouse tracking software which produces some really beautiful results. I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of activity produces what kind of image. (The larger circles are where the mouse has been most predominantly.)
HOW?: You can download IOGraphica here. It's really unobtrusive and doesn't require an installation- why not leave it running while you work and check out the results? They're often quite beautiful and gives you an insight into what your work looks like on a more abstract level.
I just thought it'd be an interesting project. If you do decide to try it out, PM me with a link to where I can download it and add it to the album! It'd be awesome- in my opinion- to see a side-by-side of all kinds of work.
Thanks,

Oh, found it!
But that was 7 months ago, we need to get smarter every day! ;-)
May I also suggest that if/when you do another AmA on here that you links to this subreddit and ask people to subscribe, reddit is a really good place for deeper discussion (which I wont say about Youtube).
And with you on here the starstruck effect will surely inspire people to come here and get smarter.
I'm also glad to see that you're making money on Patreon, which you fully deserve and put to good use.
I'd also really like to commend you on last years Project 4 Awesome, I really enjoyed that! (And I enjoy all of your videos too).
I'm not going to be on Patreon as I really don't have any money...
But can I please ask you this in regards to your previous AmA, did you pick up on the fact that we're over <strong>7</strong> billion people on this planet today? :-)
Costco. Charisma is the brand they carry. I would be very hesitant to order something online that I can't see or feel. I don't know shit about the manufacturing process, I just know they feel great, work well with great absorbency, and last forever.
Edit: Amazon link here: https://www.amazon.com/Charisma-Bath-Towel-Hygro-Cotton/dp/B00E4ON76M
Functionally equivalent ones can be found for $10-20 (for example - just the first search result on Amazon, I have no experience with that specific product). There's reasons to buy nicer ones, sometimes the mechanism is more pleasant to use and it'll typically be more durable, but if you're just curious to try it doesn't have to cost a lot.
/r/wicked_edge is the place to look, the sidebar has a very useful FAQ, starter's guide, and some recommended kits (with everything you need) in the $30-40 price range.
If you needed a shave today and had to buy everything you need, a cartridge/disposable razor with a can of shaving cream is cheaper to be sure - but if you compare even a cheap three blade cartridge razor to any DE razor over a decade you'll save hundreds of dollars on blades and shaving cream/soap by using a DE razor.
Then you should probably have done that some time ago, as the videoes end on a slide with a rodent (probably some sort of mouse) wearing a wide brimmed hat and wielding a thrusting oriented sword next to a bible verse. Or rather the loction of a bible verse, so you do have to do some research yourself to find the actual verse. An example would be: Corinthians 13.13 (I think you might like this one regardless of religious (non)beliefs — 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. For further context you will have to look it up yourself).
You might possibly be interested in the book "The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth" aka Jefferson Bible. Thomas Jefferson (the one famous for helping found the USA) cut the bible apart and glued it back together after removing all the "religious nonsense"
Social activation, the act of giving a s*it. I currently dislike facebook for its auto gif play, Hugh number of click bait sites in my feed and the free booting. That said it is one way I have to keep up with friends and family. There are still a lot of drones out there that just consume, but like this video said, we can become active, let the creator know when they have been free booted, become a creator your self, support stuff, https://www.patreon.com.
Well there are public domain licenses, but they're kind of iffy because in some countries, you can't publish stuff directly into the public domain.
Not really a whiskey stone but those exist. They have an air pocket to allow for expansion/contraction while freezing, and float. OP's asking specifically about stones and the fact that they sink.
Well I definitely thank you for the advice. You mentioned that even with a bypass there won't be enough current to run the motor to max. Is there any point in takeing the time to bypass the bms just to have a dud of a scooter? I'd almost rather re do it correctly and have the thing petal to the metal. That being said I don't have unlimited funds, and have already spent way to much. Is there a way to reuse the cells I have to create a proper pack?
I havnt checked the link you sent just yet but are there different types of batteries I should use? I'm disappointed because I thought I did my research and watched different youtube videos where people were building these for everything from car batteries, home batteries and scooter type applications. So I'm a little confused as to why the 18650s won't reach the desired current
Also here's the link to the nickle(maybe?) Strips I bought https://www.amazon.com/Batteries-0-1x4x100mm-Battery-Welding-Soldering/dp/B07PCN1ZMC
Finally I'm really at a disadvantage not haveing a spot welder. I searched all over my campus for one and couldn't find anything thus why I settled for soldering. I can't justify buying one just yet (that budget thing) so what do you suggest for that?
Thank you again for all your help, too bad I've no clue what I'm doing but, I'm learning alot and honestly haveing fun so it's a great experience (minus the budget thing :p)
Left field suggestion - pick up the second most widely published book in the English language written in the 17th century by John Bunyan called: "Pilgrim's Progress" (this edition is by far the best of the lot).

Was thinking you need some kind of rod actuator. Thought of like a golf ball putting return. Maybe not that hard, but the concept is there. https://www.amazon.ca/Golf-Gifts-Gallery-JR100-Electric/dp/B000F3S892
no problem. :)
I don't know if you've already seen episode 1 of Planet Earth 2. it's free on Amazon right now
So, interestingly, you can actually see magnetic fields in THREE dimensions. Yeah, 3d. How so? They're called ferrocells. Here's an imgur album http://imgur.com/gallery/xQRYH
I can actually explain how this happens, too. It's called "Field incommensurability." Take a north and south pole of a magnet, they're "located" there right? Nope, if you could split the magnet in half there would be TWO north and TWO south poles on each side of the magnet. Split it again, there will be a north and south pole on each piece, every single time. This is an example of field incommensurability.
Now, when you take that magnetic viewing film and place two magnets side by side you'll see the white plane self-center itself around the two magnets.
What's actually happening is that when a magnet reaches another magnet and comes in contact, it becomes ONE entity - one magnet. So at that end with the singular one it's actually going to a new "end" of the magnet, as the entirety of the magnet becomes one big, long magnet.
Field incommensurability is where fields are non-point-specific, and are not LOCATED at somewhere, they are FORCED there, or are a pressure mediation to that spot. Think of it like water flowing down a hill, it's forced to be at that location.
We've had good success with this book:
It'll help get you and your newborn onto a routine. My wife had all 4 of our girls sleeping through the night by ~10 weeks or so.
Also on the technical side, if you want some of the inspiration for the mission architecture, try The Case For Mars by Robert Zubrin. For an insightful critique of TCFM from 18 years later, try The International Mars Research Station by Shaun Moss.
