We have google fiber, and my wife and I cut the cable out and switched over to youtube.tv. Haven't missed a sporting game this season, since they are on fox sports midwest or fox sports Kansas city (both included in youtube.tv). So with $50 100 MB service, you pay $35 bucks for 30 plus channels. It would bring your cost down to $85 rather than $140.
I use NordVPN and ESPN+ to stream the games. I live in KC. I just select the St Louis VPN server and go. Sometimes I have to force quit the ESPN app after I turn on the VPN but it works.
I really really hate Sinclair. First their politics and now what they’ve done to Fox Sports.
Just use a VPN and you can avoid all blackouts by browsing from a different country. Personally, I use TunnelBear and have never missed a game due to blackout with MLS Live.
I 2nd Best Western as very good/closest. However, if you want a cheaper alternative that's still within walking distance, you could look at Candlewood Suites.
Usually cheaper by $60-$90. It's setup as one of those officey long-term apartment for business people. But the beds are comfy enough and I've not had any issues with them. I live 3 hours away and attending 10+ matches a year it's worth it to me to save $60-$90 each time, but if that doesn't mean much to you on one visit then definitely go for Best Western. It's nicer and maybe 50 ft. away.
From Sporting KC Site
>Fans are permitted to bring in one (1) empty soft plastic sport or water bottle up to 20-ounces. No cans, thermoses, glass, aluminum, or hard plastic bottles are permitted inside Children’s Mercy Park.
We bring a water bottle like this and have never had an issue.
You're fine! :) I was just joking about it being missed a tragedy. It perhaps isn't as famous, it isn't a dive and isn't as old as other listed, but it's quite delicious. The location linked has the added benefit of proximity to the awesome Union Station (there's a bridge connecting the two, it's a fun walk). My wife enjoy going there, seeing Union Station, and the lovely views atop the WW1 memorial/museum (free to walk on the upper portion with awesome views, but there's a fee for the tower/museum access).
This is coming from the perspective of a visitor, not a local. We drive down from Omaha, NE 6+ times each year.
Not listed, which is a tragedy, but my vote goes to Fiorellla's Jack Stack. Call ahead or order to-go. This location has a separate "to-go" area.
It's working fine for me using NordVPN and Safari on macOS. I did have to clear ESPN's stored website data because I've logged in before without my VPN active. On Safari you can do this by going to Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data... Then you can search for "ESPN," select it and hit remove.
Little known fact, you only need the VPN to start the stream. It checks your location and then the stream starts. It doesn't ever check again. Because of this, I use the free VPN Hotspot Shield. Start up Hotspot Shield, start the stream, turn off Hotspot Shield. Works like a charm!
I live in charleston and use it for SKC games. They're good quality, and there's an easy workaround for blackouts. Download a free VPN and use it to browse from Canada and you'll get around the blackouts.
Personally, I use TunnelBear because it's easy and secure. You get 500mb of free data when you create an account which is enough for one game. All you need to create multiple accounts is a new email, so you can use a simple gmail trick to keep getting free data.
Gmail ignores anything after a + symbol. So, you can create a TunnelBear account with , then another with , and just keep changing the characters after the +.
Here's a version with smaller stripes which is a little closer to the real kit
and if anyone's interested
I use NordVPN to get sporting games too, it works really well, they're always fighting with the bans. I saved 70% with this LINK
I will recommend to use NordVPN for ESPN+ to get the sporting games. And it is working very well for me.
Nothing really complicated about it. Pay for a year or two of a good VPN service (Private Internet Access is one of the best for espn) then turn it on and stream your games.
The biggest issue is if somebody is using a standard smart TV or roku device as they don't let you use vpns. Android tvs do though. But if on a regular smart TV they will need to plug their laptop or a home theater pc into it to get the games (what I have been doing for the last couple of years).
I just got my first android TV a couple months ago and love the fact that I can use my PIA VPN service with it. But now with the games on 38 I won't need it as much.
I have always felt like they are a little high especially considering how the price of everything else in the stadium compares in terms of tickets/other concessions. $9 Boulevard, 16 oz is pretty high.
I also have seen this mentioned on TripAdvisor a few times as well: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g38815-d2218793-r185825807-Sporting_Park_Kansas_City-Kansas_City_Kansas.html#REVIEWS
I pay the prices because I love SKC but that's the only thing that I think is over-priced. Chiefs games and Royals games have as equal or better value over SKC in this regard and they are members of the "Big 4" sports leagues. Not that I think MLS is a lesser league, it just doesn't have the mass appeal nationwide compared to MLB or NFL.
Currently watching the game via a live tracker. And it is as you might expect...

Pretty much all of them allow you to choose a variety of locations. I'm not really too terribly concerned with privacy or any of the really technical stuff, but I use Windscribe or ProtonVPN (both free) and they've both been great for me!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yinzcam.mls.skc&hl=en there is the link for those trying to find it on Android. I just noticed it today.
I have NordVPN which don’t have servers in kc but do in Denver . I discovered people in Denver could watch the stream on RSL’s source KSLsports. Not sure how Denver is in RSL’s “broadcast range” but I got to watch the second half that way . “THE MLS” can’t help but shoot themselves in the foot every chance they get.
Worst case scenario get a week free trial of Hulu sports to give yourself another week to find a more concrete plan. Personally after YT tv dropping the channel I'll be using ESPN+ and a VPN. Another user on here told me the following
"Little known fact, you only need the VPN to start the stream. It checks your location and then the stream starts. It doesn't ever check again. Because of this, I use the free VPN Hotspot Shield. Start up Hotspot Shield, start the stream, turn off Hotspot Shield. Works like a charm!"
So I'll be trying that. If all else fails I would check 🏴☠️ 🏴☠️
I watch blacked out games using a combination of a VPN (Private Internet Access. PM me if you want more details.
