I had the most difficult time rating Moyes' squad selection. I mean, it's a good squad selection, but it's not like he has much of a choice right now as the starting 11 are pretty obvious. I can see people arguing for Areola over Fabs, but that's about it.

Statistically, that's a complete lie. De Jong created 9 big chances while Pedri created only 5. Also to be considered that De Jong had to play as a sweeper as well at times.

Well, I disagree. Gressel is third in the league in key passes per match and second in big chances created. He's a top player in the league this year.
The reason why he has a lot of incompletions is, as mentioned elsewhere, a lot of his passes are crosses. Crosses are lower percentage passes, but they're low risk (in the sense that they don't generate a lot of high quality counters) and high reward (in the sense that when they are complete they generate chances).

2) We have the most talented (potential) of all teams in the continent, we have the most depth, we have a bunch of the best players at a bunch of positions. But we 100% do not have the best attacking talent in CONCACAF. Mexico likely has the experience/talent advantage (though has also struggled) and Canada has the potential/talent advantage (and has not struggled).
3) That is the reason why our midfield is dominant and our defense is legit and also a reason why our offense is only 2nd best right now. So it adds up just fine
And this formation isn't just being used for WCQ either, this is being build towards an eye on the WC. Adams at CDM is how we are going to win games there.

We're basically 2nd in every offensive category ... Goals, Chances, Possession, Chances Missed, Passes. (unfortunately Canada is running away with 1st in most of them but that's moreso due to the fact that they've been playing in this qualification window since 2014 give or take -- i.e. any of the total stats are getting a boost by 6 games against weak competition for Can/SLV/Pan). The one category that we aren't near the top is penalties award where shockingly to all we haven't gotten even one (thanks CONCACAF Refs).

It can be both. Maguire's in a rut. Shaw's in a bit of a rut and currently concussed. Varane's out injured. Fred & McTominay are either a great pairing or an awful one depending on what day of the week it is.
We've largely the same squad (plus Varane) that had something like the 4th fewest expected goals conceded & 5th fewest goals conceded last season. The wheels completely fell off the bus this season and only time will tell precisely why that was, but there's a clear combination of system & players to blame.
I'm primarily just amused by the stat because it's largely stating the obvious - we've been dreadful in defense this season, and the volume of xG is no real surprise after the Liverpool, City & Watford games.

Garcia was atrocious and tbh Araujo continues to not do enough in build up. We can blame the fullbacks all we want but central defense has been an issue on this squad for 5 seasons. That combined with a really poor performance from Pedri meant we never controlled the game the way we need to.
