>Degerfors IF borrows English goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman, 22, from Tottenham Hotspur. The loan agreement extends for the rest of the season, with an option to extend. The promising former youth international is looking for game time as he had to compete with names like Joe Hart and world champion Hugo Lloris this past Premier League season.
>- I'm very excited to be in Sweden and playing in the Swedish league. Degerfors is a classic club with a fantastic culture and it will be an exciting challenge to play in another country," Whiteman said.
>The goalkeeper has played pre-season games for Spurs as recently as this summer. In autumn 2020, he was substituted in a Europa League match against Bulgarian Ludogorets and he has also been on the bench in a handful of Premier League games.
>- I'm a quick and agile goalkeeper. In Tottenham we also work a lot on being good with our feet. I've had great experience training with players like Joe Hart and Hugo Lloris. Now it's up to me to show what I can do on the pitch," says the new acquisition.
>Whiteman replaces Ismael Diawara, who signed for Malmö FF on Wednesday.
>- We have known for some time that "Ismo" would probably leave the club. During this period, we have worked intensively to find a suitable replacement. We have looked carefully at the market. Loans, purchases, out-of-contract players. When the opportunity came to pick up a player from one of Europe's biggest clubs, we felt that it was a very interesting option, says sports director Patrik Werner.
>As the UK is no longer an EU country, a work permit is required before Alfie Whiteman is ready to play for DIF. The process is ongoing.
This is a DeepL translation from Degefors’ announcement of the Whiteman loan, if anyone’s interested to hear what Whiteman/the Swedish club has to say.
He started integrating a 20 year old hakimi into his squad as well as 2 other players I can’t remember right now. He also played 17/18 year olds in the euro cups when at Chelsea. His philosophy on youth is “if you’re good enough to play with a great team, you play.” source
I think it's pretty accurate.
Basketball players may be supremely talented, but their height pretty much guarantees they will rarely match the speed (or strength, due to muscle density of longer limbs) of American Football's best.
Obviously, there are freaks like Karl Malone, but that's the exception, not the rule. Same goes for Baseball.
Whereas you can almost guarantee every player at Wide Receiver, Cornerback, Linebacker, Safety, Running Back are physical specimens likely among the nations elite.
Also, for hilarities sake, here's a normal person compared to NFL players, one of whom (Ford) ran a 4.28s 40yd dash.
/r/bootroom and /r/footballtactics pretty much have this niche covered. Obviously they aren't focused on English Football specifically but this would be the places you're looking for. (they have a combined 20k subs, probably a decent chunk of people being the same between the two, you would essentially be catering to a small portion of that 20k)
Best way to get your sub to take off is get someone who is good at the CSS to make it look good and work on contributing yourself. Reddit has a majority North American users (60%) and most of those will only be interested in the large leagues so would visit the subs of their teams or /r/soccer or /r/EPL or /r/laliga etc... The majority of interest of English lower leagues comes from within England and they only represent 8% of Reddit users not to mention your sub is called english*soccer* which is somewhat of an oxymoron to a lot of people.
Best of luck if it's something you're interested in but hopefully I pointed you in the direction of a couple subs you didn't know about where you can discuss football meme-free!
Hi Spurs fans, i'm currently conducting research for my uni dissertation studying the impacts of different football stadiums on their local areas. As a new stadium, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is one of my main focuses. I would be massively grateful if you could spare 1-2 minutes to fill out this very short survey about the stadium and its impact. Thanks to those who have already filled it out.
Thanks very much!
It was a truly epic game. I teeter between that game and one other, though...

Domestic TV rights are completely different to international rights. In foreign countries one broadcaster will typically buy the rights to every game. Domestically there are seven different packages so one broadcaster doesn't get the rights to every game.

Lately? I've been following Spurs for 7 seasons now. It's always been a problem. This was the worst one, I think. It's why Dempsey's last-gasp equalizer in the same fixture this season was extra special.

> Monday or Sunday first day of the week?
> The first day of the week varies all over the world. In most cultures, Sunday is regarded as the first day of the week although many observe Monday as the first day of the week. According to the Bible, the Sabbath or Saturday is the last day of the week which marks Sunday as the first day of the week for many Jewish and Christian faiths, while many countries regard Monday as the first day of the week.
>According to the international standard ISO 8601, Monday is the first day of the week ending with Sunday as the seventh day of the week. Although this is the international standard, countries such as the United States still have their calendars refer to Sunday as the start of the seven-day week.

What I read on the facespace this morning made it sound like The King was a maybe soon. But, Pienaar, and Gallas should be able to start. It would be cool if The King could come on late second half, or even midweek against Rubin Kazan.
This is a repost from another thread with a book recommendation. I was thinking about our passion for this club. In my case, I have 2 great Sports loves. University of Michigan football that I came to very early and the Spurs that I came to 60 years later.
Suffering is essential to the fan experience. That is, suffering with some hope is essential. I recommend this little book. It captures this idea. You'll see Spurs fans and all true fans in it.
" A sports fan’s life is not just defined by intense moments on a field, it’s scarred by them. For a real fan, winning isn’t everything—losing is. The true fans, it’s said, are those who have suffered the most, enduring lives defined by irrational obsession, fervid hopes, and equally gut-wrenching misery."
As you've spent time in the U.S. you'd have a better feel.
I readily admit that I am irrational during games for the clubs/teams that I REALLY have passion for. The measure of my passion is the amount that losing feels bad as compared to winning feels good. There are only 2 who fit this criterion. The Spurs and University of Michigan football. UM was my first sport true love and Spurs will be my last.
I know I am Spurs by the fact of how much losing hurts. Suffering is essential to the fan experience. That is, suffering with a chance of feeling ecstasy is essential. I recommend this little book by a UM fan.

Loads. I've been travel/working on and off for the last decade all over the world. I don't have experience in Uganda, but in Ghana it was so much fun watching games. They had CL and prem games they would stream on a TV in a little house. You pay like 25cents to get in and watch it with locals, definitely five that a shot.
In terms of streaming, just get yourself a VPN and your fine. I used my brothers cable login for ESPN and would just VPN my computer as if I was in the US and it worked everywhere. You can also just find streams and VPN if Uganda doesn't work. I like NordVPN.
Enjoy Africa it is incredible.
No issue here at all, but I run a full suite of adblockers, plus use uBlock's element blocking to block some of the more annoying content and "related stories" boxes on the page.
I don't know how anyone can stand to use the internet without an ad blocker these days, especially on older or mobile devices. It's cheap and easy.
(If your mobile browser doesn't let you use an ad blocker, install a different one).
It's a sneaky mount.
There's literally no one saying Son is the same quality of player as Ronaldo or Messi.
You overperform your xG in one season could be seen as a fluke. Doing it for 6 years and outperforming the best players on the planet is almost definitive proof of Son's lethality in front of the net.
This is probably the best book on the subject of xG . It is currently the most reliable methodology for judging one's shooting ability. It's not new and has been around for decades, being refined over and over in that period, but has only entered the footballing zeitgeist recently. There's a reason it's used across other big sports like Hockey and Basketball (though it goes by xFG for the latter). You'll find it accurately paints a picture in those areas too.
Unless there's a better methodology or metric out there to measure Son with, he, by current models, has all the statistical backing necessary to support the claim that he's the been the best finisher in the sport for half a decade.
If you have evidence to the contrary, I'd genuinely would like you to share it with me and the rest of us.
I used to live across the street from finnegan irish pub! That place is great for watching a match.
Two places that I really liked were Da Pinochio and this small sandwich shop in the central market. Get the roast beef sandwich.
Doesn't work for The Athletic. They seem to not have the "search engine back door" for their longer-form stuff, and that's what the paywall-busters generally take advantage of.
FWIW, I really like the Bypass Paywals extension for Chrome and Firefox. It works really well. Why faff about with going through another website when you can have the same logic built into your browser?
How'd he get in the post match photo when he wasn't even in the team? (according to https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2016/may/18/liverpool-v-sevilla-europa-league-final-live ) ... and how did Toure' start over Skrtel?
He actually switched from Adidas, who are Man U's kit manufacturers starting next season and it was 3 days ago it was announced.
Hype building!
Edit:
It isn't "falsified". I didn't say "spent", I said "committed" on his key targetsIt was a ball-park figure, but if you want to go there:
It's actually £213.18m committed to Poch's key transfer targets. Excluding agents fees, which were £12m or so that season, and any bonuses.[transfermarkt for fees, salarysport for contracts)
Unless, of course, you think players don't actually have any costs beyond their fees, which would be ridiculous... But who's "inflating" or "fabricating" here?

Damn it coult be, I read that article: https://www.fotmob.com/news/ua72wexn84d81039ewal4nqo6/kane-matches-ozil-assists-record-with-latest-son-link-up (bottom paragraph)
and I think I read it wrong. Whats your source for the stat? So I can check before posting next time.
The more I think about it, the more obvious it gets. Sorry! But I guess both records are easily in reach
100% get into it! It's very fun and rewarding. This isn't illustrator or procreate, I use Clip Studio Paint which is much cheaper than Adobe software and it's constantly updating. It's designed more for illustration than for photo editing (although there are still a few features where you can do basic editing).
As for the hardware, I use a Ugee UG-250 (or something of the like... Cant quite remember the name) as it's a cheaper alternative to the Wacoms. If you're not working consistently as a tradesman, you should look into XP-Pen as they do great stuff for a very reasonable price. If you already have an ipad, just pick up an apple pencil as I hear those things are great, and I've never heard anyone say a bad word about Procreate.
Hope this helps!
I used this last year.

My thoughts as well, but we may be overthinking it? I did some googling to try and get some insight. It does appear French has a phrase directly associated with having a monkey on your back.
>singe sur le dos
In US English, I have associated it with drug dependency... But the French seem to use the phrase to refer to any trouble or concern that is impacting you negatively.
https://context.reverso.net/translation/english-french/monkey+on+your+back
Any native French speakers able to clear this one up? Is this just a silly photo, or a deeper message from a teammate?
I'm half way through my Computer Science degree on a part-time basis, without any real experience and love it. Go to Udemy.com and do a web app dev bootcamp. Will give you a good taste for development and you use loads of different technologies and languages. The courses are only about a tenner most of the time and you can do them in your own time, they will always be in your library.

Had a flick through it at the store, it’s a mixture of a picture book/informational book about Harry Kane detailing his journey/accomplishments in a way kids can understand. I’m pretty sure I would’ve been able to read it at around age 5 or 6, though I did like books at an early age. Amazon link to the book this’ll sorta gets you the idea of what you should expect from it through the images provided.
Firstly, you're a lovely teacher. Stay the same <3
Second, I have heard from veteran Spurs journos talk highly about The Glory Game which gives an inside account of the club from the past. You could prolly include a note which says "All or Nothing but from the past and without Levy's PR team" or something to make it more relevant xD
Not really history related but I’ve read this and it’s a cracker, for anyone interested.

Haha, no. The book
I was having a bit of fun in the last sentence. The majority of this post was just about the actual scientific evidence around breath and its effects that I obtained from the book.
He has a book too. Link. Very similar stories to the podcast. Podcast is much more fun/funnier though.
NordVPN is fantastic, with hundreds of servers all around the world, but lacks some features some people like - the client uses OpenVPN, which has more overhead and thus lower throughput than some other encryption types, but you can manually set it to use IKEv2/IPSec on pretty much any platform, and it doesn't currently support port forwarding which may be an issue if you want to have the VPN run but also host services out of your home like Plex, game servers, etc.
But overall it's great, easy to use, very inexpensive. They have a three year plan for $107 US right now.
IPVanish and ExpressVPN are also very popular choices.

Honestly man, yeah they're fine but I wouldn't really say 'good'. I had the Swift 1 which was OK but the build was a little plasticky - the Swift 2 has a nicer build but it's just there to occupy the middle of the market. It does everything you expect it to do well enough but no real bells or whistles on it.
Only real downside is the camera is pretty lame in low light conditions. There's loads of reviews on amazon that are probably better at summing it up than me.
