There is a book called soccernomics which has a similar write up. The main factors to national team success is population, wealth and experience. The main reason USA hasn't done well is that we really haven't had much of a national team before 1990 and Soccer isnt one of our top sports so we don't have the investment as we could, although we have enough wealth to support it successfully as a 3rd/4th sport once we get more experience. The population issue is why England seems to always under perform when compared to teams like Germany. Also the on outlier is Brazil, they shouldn't have as much success as they do since they don't have the wealth that should go into a successful national team but their passion seems to more than make up for it.
Haha well yes I suppose it does depend on how you define "above average." If you define it as "above the mean" like I do then 8th is above average. If you need to be at "least one standard deviation above the mean" to be "above average", then, assuming a normal distribution where 68% of the teams are within one standard deviation of the mean (thus the middle 14 teams are within one st. dev. of the mean), only the top 3 teams can be considered "above average". What strong criteria to just be above average! Every season an "average" team qualifies for Champions League! Someone alert UEFA because Champions League this is not!
In an effort to ultimately define "above average," I consulted the only indisputable source of knowledge in the universe, urbandictionary.com. Urban Dictionary defines "above average" as "Not quite average not quite great a happy medium between them." Well again we arrive at the problem that "average" and "great" are not well-defined terms. Urban Dictionary does not provide quantifiable definitions of these terms. I then consulted the next most reliable source of information for these terms, Metacritic.com, as they are the ones in charge of rating the quality of all things in this universe (for a definition of quality, I'd suggest reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig). Metacritic has determined that a rating of between 40 and 60 is average while a rating between 81 and 100 is great. Thusly, a rating between 61 and 80 must be our elusive "above average." We can then assume that teams that finish in at least the 61st percentile in points can be called "above average". Finishing in 8th place in a 20 team league would place a team in the 60th percentile, meaning that Stoke City actually are an average team (just barely). My bad, bro. You're right.
Not February 2nd. Far more likely to be cold and dry and then snow later in the month. Link below but here’s the important part about precipitation:
“On average, there is a 8% chance that more than 0.04 inches of total precipitation will fall in Minneapolis throughout the day on February 2… For reference, the year's highest daily chance of precipitation is 41% on June 20, and its lowest chance is 8% on February 3.”
Idk about Fairfax, but DC is actually a famous example of exclusionary public space rules and the commodification of community fields. DC has and thankfully still does, one of the most vibrant pick up scenes in the US; however, since all the tech incubators and millennial yuppies moved in, a company from NY (Zogsports) negotiated with the city to make many of the public fields into permit only spaces for their afterwork kick-ball/super expensive co-ed soccer leagues. This is totally antithetical to the tradition of pick up in DC, which is: 'make room for anybody on the field, everyone is welcome.' Instead you get the highly educated transplant bros who bring an ethos of private ownership to a public space (https://tinyurl.com/yaorq3u7). The most famous instance of sports-gentrification, of course, was in San Francisco a few years ago on the Mission District's turf field (https://tinyurl.com/qgkyru2).
Thought you all may like these for matchday. If you are looking for the all-white or bomb pop jerseys, designer Dave Ruse has already done them and you can find them here: https://dribbble.com/shots/1575814-World-Cup-Lock-Screen-USA
Cheers!
As of posting this it was $388 from Chicago to T and T with a long layover in Toronto.
Edit: Under $300 from Washington DC https://www.google.com/flights/#search;f=IAD;t=POS;d=2017-09-06;r=2017-09-13
I jut hope there was one person out there who somehow stumbled on this match without the context and thought
"The fuck?? They pulled their keeper... They're up 5-0!!"
Yup, fellow Minnesotan here. Median high and low the days of our home games are 25 degrees and 10 degrees. https://weatherspark.com/s/10422/3/Average-Winter-Weather-in-Saint-Paul-Minnesota-United-States#Figures-Temperature
Following the US, only two nights in Manaus though, since that's all I could get a decent hotel for.
Edit: here's my hotel in Natal: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g303518-d2618865-Reviews-Villa_Park_Hotel-Natal_State_of_Rio_Grande_do_Norte.html
We've never seen Pefok Start, we know the current quality of Sargent(Yes, he will improve). What seems to be the problem? Should you reward him with another game straight after a dismal performance? Sargent had 5 shots with non of them challenging the keeper!
Haven't read this yet but hear good things about it https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5KXB9QJ/ref=sspa_mw_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0B5KXB9QJ&pd_rd_w=ld4qN&content-id=amzn1.sym.884201e1-d271-483b-82b6-a8e06327e253&pf_rd_p=884201e1-d271-483b-82b6-a8e06327e253&pf_rd_r=VE42A71BNGDHNF4QSCE...
I don’t respect your point of view, nor do I believe that you actually watch any sports in good faith. How many comments did you make the day of the Saudi Arabia game again bro? 500+? When would you even have time to watch a game? Maybe spend some money on this then answer me back

Wait.... I'm almost positive that if you actually read what I said, that I gave Bellicheck credit, no? I said Brady likely had MORE to do with it, but I didn't say Bellicheck had NOTHING to do with it?
Maybe spend some money on this and then answer me back.
That’s easy to get around - get a subscription to a VPN, whereupon you can change your virtual location. NordVPN you can find for $35-45 a year depending on timing. (Unfortunately this doesn’t work for Android or iOS devices unless you root your phone). Having a VPN is good practice for security and privacy even without this benefit.
It's a good attitude to have and I'm sure the players will be up for it.
Also just to emphasize the difference between European and Midwest US winters, the average high temperature for Minneapolis this time of year is 5 to 10 degrees colder than the average low temperature for where Antonee was born.
>We are a set piece team with the most talented roster on the continent. That doesn’t add up to me.

1) Set piece scoring is good, so yay?
2) We have the most talented (potential) of all teams in the continent, we have the most depth, we have a bunch of the best players at a bunch of positions. But we 100% do not have the best attacking talent in CONCACAF. Mexico likely has the experience/talent advantage (though has also struggled) and Canada has the potential/talent advantage (and has not struggled).
3) That is the reason why our midfield is dominant and our defense is legit and also a reason why our offense is only 2nd best right now. So it adds up just fine
And this formation isn't just being used for WCQ either, this is being build towards an eye on the WC. Adams at CDM is how we are going to win games there.

I get the frustration that we aren't dominating offensively, but we are also not as bad as is being suggested either:
https://www.fotmob.com/leagues/10198/stats/world-cup-qualification-concacaf/teams
We're basically 2nd in every offensive category ... Goals, Chances, Possession, Chances Missed, Passes. (unfortunately Canada is running away with 1st in most of them but that's moreso due to the fact that they've been playing in this qualification window since 2014 give or take -- i.e. any of the total stats are getting a boost by 6 games against weak competition for Can/SLV/Pan). The one category that we aren't near the top is penalties award where shockingly to all we haven't gotten even one (thanks CONCACAF Refs).
Didn't see Fotmob before I posted... but they gave him an 8.2. 90% pass completion, 4/4 on dribbles, 4 key passes, and got the assist. Couldn't have been so bad where he is out of the picture.

They're doing a stream of it. I think Sirius has a 30 day free trial too.
Just thought this would be interesting to some of you following Gianluca and Tanner at Venezia (article translation here
Translation of the part where he’s talking about Pepi
I'm in Berlin. ExpressVPN + the relevant service does the job for me. You typically need a US credit card to sign up for the actual services though. This window's a pain since the qualifiers are one 3 different networks
Looks like Xavi took quite a few of the regulars to Saudia Arabia for this friendly
The guardian just did a great piece on Jordan Morris and the hype machine that is American media. It's not unreasonable to believe there is a lot of pressure being put on the shoulders of a 17 year old

So now I have to listen to your insults and find easy info for you?
I'm not some stan, I watch Musah when he gets in with Valencia, every Juve match with McKennie, Adams having an ok year at Leipzeg, and have been enjoying Venezia put up a good fight in Serie A. Midfielder at heart.
A mediocre performance against Jamaica isn't something to sling negative comments about. Honestly if you rewatch the game you might have a different take.
So, in a discussion in a soccer forum about sports, you want me to defend a point about the entire franchise model of business? Within one paragraph of using the phrase "straw man"?
Well, you're going to be waiting a long time. If I get a job at a McDonalds in Seattle, there's no danger of being forced to relocate to Tampa Bay to keep my job.
But if you want to explain how baseball contains relics of slavery, let's fucking go, motherfucker.
In baseball, an American cannot choose his employer. He can sign with the team that drafted him, or he can go to college, or he can play in Japan/Mexico. Curiously, International signings absolutely can decide who they sign with and hold bidding wars with teams, but Americans cannot. Dominicans, for example, have more rights than Americans in this regard.
In baseball, a player cannot negotiate his salary until he has finished his third MLB season. They track "service time", and if you don't have 3.0 years, you make the minimum salary in the big leagues and you make chicken feed in the minors.
In baseball, a player once was kept by the "reserve clause" where a team held his rights in perpetuity, so if you couldn't make the team that drafted you, or didn't want to play for a team you were traded to, you don't get to play MLB baseball, no matter how good you are. Fortunately, Curt Flood successfully sued and won this right for other baseball players. Here's the book about it.
It's not a stretch to say a league that strips workers of rights contains "relics of slavery".
If you don't believe me, what was the name of that book about Curt Flood? Post it here in your response.
For a longer explanation and overall history of the evolution of tactics, formations, and the sport itself, Inverting the Pyramid is an excellent read.
This is good. More for coaches, but half the book is about how the game's developed over the years.

You’ll have to get a VPN and switch to a country not within the CONCACAF reach. Argentina, for example. I use NordVPN. Many uses for a VPN anyhow for security reasons, well worth the money.
