$96 AUD free shipping to Australia for core, comes from UK in 5-8 days. They have wave 1 as well.
The prices constantly go up and down though I don't know what their price algorithm is but for example I have seen Battlestar Galactica board game go as low as $58 then go up to $98 in one week then to $65 the next so wait till prices go down (most the big box games reach lows of like ~$60, and $96 is as good as it gets for Armada). I think they match the sales of other sites but it is the best place to get stuff when it hits the low due to free shipping. They only mostly sell Fantasy Flight games and you have to use the search function to find stuff as it is a book store with no menu for games.
They had a 10% off entire order promotion that runs sometimes, I ordered the core + wave 1 with it, they are reliable and fast.

Pick up a couple nebs and a Vic from Amazon with the order. Should be around 80. The core set price is good through tomorrow.
I know the information that comes out of CGYSO is potentially knowable by anyone, but with the encyclopedic searchability of what is being delivered, I wonder how many players are hating the fact y'all publish the "secrets" and strategy of the game.
Then again, Carl von Clausewitz wrote "On War" in 1832, and Sun Tzu "The Art of War" much earlier, and people still make bonehead mistakes.
Glad to have this info; I've yet to come across a conga line in my meta. Plenty of swarms, though.
Please don't use a referral link, if you edit the link to take out the referral code (the tag= part) I can approve your comment but everything except for https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Armada-Liberty-Cruiser/dp/B01FZAF0YK is unnecessary
Oh lord, you have no idea how I've had to argue this for years.
I did the capital ship classification system for this game. https://www.moddb.com/mods/fwtow
It was really difficult getting that point across to people that don't understand ship classes.
A Dreadnought is not a dreadnought, a Star Destroyer is not a destroyer, a Tartan Patrol Cruiser is not a cruiser....
Spacedock touches on this very point with a recent video.
Someone on BGG came up with a very nifty solution here. Might actually be able to stand box on side if you don't make the corner bits angled too, I just realized.
I didn't even know who the person in question was and after reading some of his posts I think he's just a really aggressive jerk. I'm not sure that's in need of a banning. With RES, you can have his posts and comments hidden from you so you never have to interact with him again, if you wish.
I use click and connect tool box from amazon.. https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Tools-STST19900-Connect-Organizer/dp/B01NBJ8GBF?keywords=click+and+connect+tool+box&qid=1532213066&sr=8-2&ref=mp_s_a_1_2 Works great I put the big ships in the top and all the smaller ships and squadrons in a couple of the smaller clip on pieces on the bottom
Those stupid pegs! Superglue sucks, pinning is a hassle.
Try UV glue. Its perfect! Long working time, almost instant set, cheap.
This is what I use. Game changer!
I have a Stanley Click N Connect that works great. The bottom half pops off and stores all my squadrons with a little room left after wave 2. Those are modular so you can add more of them too. Like $14 on amazon. The top currently holds all my ships and everything else. I haven't bought an ISD or MC80 yet though. I think once I finish Wave 2, I'll need another bottom organizer for cards and things so the top toolbox can just be ships. Not sure how wave 3 will work.
Inside the box, almost everything is in sirwillis boxes. LOVE those things. They only thing I don't box anymore is non named squadrons.
Rebel squadrons 2 is pretty available online. Imperial is imposing to find in the US. I actually ended up ordering them from Amazon UK https://www.amazon.co.uk/Armada-Imperial-Fighter-Squadrons-Expansion/dp/B01L1DUGK8
The vinyl mat was originally suggested to me by u/iroll20s, but I picked up the image from BGG because I didn't want the Armada logo on it.
https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/117734/space-play-mat-deployment-zones
Idk if you’ve learned yet or not but Amazon has consolidated most Armada products into a single ‘product’ with different variants. Not sure if everything is on there but it’s close. Here’s the link.
For printing starships where there are fewer fiddly little details like there are on character minis, you can get fantastic results off relatively inexpensive printers like the Anycubic Photon or the Elegoo Mars
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RY6NSL8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_CF14653DXA172KDFCSS0
You can get an additional bottom and connect it. The top can hold two hobby boxes
I store the big ships in the bottom storage, squads/tokens in the hobby boxes on the top. The two yellow pockets at the very top perfectly hold dials and dice.
I would second the recommendation to read the excellent CGYSO blog as posted below. Not just the specific buying advice article but also their other stuff, very helpful and informative! I also agree with the recommendation to get the upgrade card collection and squadrons 1.
As far as your next actual ships, it depends on what you want and there are always multiple options. Based on what kind of fleets you want to use or just based on what ships you think are cool.
But, if you want the iconic Home One (and why wouldn't you? :) ): it is currently selling for 25.49 on Amazon which is a bit of a steal (has me tempted to get a second one haha).
https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Armada-Home-One/dp/1633441202/
p.s. the best advice is buy everything and get multiples ;)
Neat, but I just use Stanley Removable Compartment Organizers. Handy because they stack right on top of each other, and you can move the bins around to fit your needs. I use them for a lot of different games.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00005QWYF/
10 compartment for big stuff, 25 compartment for cards and tokens, or smaller miniatures like x-wing.
You can't go wrong with the Stanley click and connect tool box. I have the main tool box $13 on Amazon holding a small Plano case for tokens and all large and medium ships. Then two stackable boxes holding small ships and squadrons. My upgrade and shipyards are all in a binder.
The best part is you can keep stacking and large ships will even fit in the small boxes off their stands. Could not recommend enough. Oh and the trays in the lid I use for speed dials, command dials, dice, damage deck, and whatever other tokens I feel like.
The only issue I've had is the toolbox on Amazon did not come with any dividers of its own for some reason, maybe at Home Depot it will. It didn't affect me much because I needed some dividers out of the small boxes to organize the squadrons the way I wanted.
Currently have two of every ship and squadron pack.

A-Wings are pretty essential.
B-Wings are super fun!
All this endless looking, are you asking your game store???
In addition, I may be crazy here, but... Amazon America does it for way cheaper, it's $24 currently.
If you're in the U.S., Amazon has the Nebulon-B Frigate for only $7 right now, which comes with some strong upgrades. Could pick up the Victory-class Star Destroyer Expansion for $10 too though you probably wouldn't get as much mileage out of it.
I second the suggestion of MC30 or Gladiator, they're just fun ships to play. ISDs are also pretty ubiquitous.
To ratchet down the tension in this thread, people can also take a look at http://camelcamelcamel.com/ to get a history of prices on Amazon. That said, in the last 2 years, things are sometimes about 50% off and often 40% off on these sites when a sale is going on. Sales have been a bit thin lately.
Hey, I'm with you. In all seriousness, if you've got a metal edge ruler ($2), a utility knife with a fresh blade ($4), some Elmer's glue ($1) and foam core (depends, but less than $5), you can do this. Barring some sort of physical disability. It might not look as good as what's shown there, but it'll work. And you get better pretty quickly.
And then you can start doing foam core inserts for games, which for me, was literally a game changer. As in, a speedier to set up, more organized, fewer pieces lost game changer. And only the foam core expense is a regular cost. Check out the geeklist on BGG for foam core inserts. There's some amazing stuff in there.
I've done quite a few of these things myself and while I have woodworking skills of some level, crafting is not really my bag. It's dead easy, really. Toughest part is planning how to layout an already full case and this is just a little stand that will easily fit in the box.

I keep both Armada and X-Wing in the same one.
Yeah, I'm a big fan. Picked up on Amazon for like $25.
It's exactly the right size, and grabs the dice and ships really nicely. Definitely recommend it.
$29 on Amazon right now.

OP your box looks excellent, well organized for sure. It looks way cramped if you had custom paintjobs to consider.
I got excited when I saw the OP because I've had me eye on this craftsman plastic tool box thinking it might be good for minis. The local Ace has a better price than Amazon and has been sending me $5 off coupons to boot.

Between this and a binder with card sleeves I have a solution for tokens and squadrons. In my early days I was able to fit all my ships in the box too. That is laughable now... especially with the ssd.
I use Stanley 014725 25-Removable Compartment Professional Organizer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005QWYF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ANkeFbM8S73NN or knock off brands. I had all my stuff split by models, bases and tokens. Now organizing that you just pull a container and get model base cards and tokens in a yellow container.
You shouldn't allow your opponents successes and desire for his failure control your actions.
Pick up "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu.
It may shock you how applicable his words are to this game (and many situations in life)
Not sure on the spec requirements, I run a little overkill so I haven't worried about it. Steam pages should have min/recommended specs.
As for Android, I don't do much phone gaming. But here are two I've played before that are at least in the ballpark, but still significantly different than the Steam games above.
Stiga ping pong table is what I use. It's 2 pieces so also good for other games, substantial so you can lean on it, the table surface is really robust and resists scratches. Amazon says out of stock but it's worth the wait. Alternatives I found were $250+ and not rated to hold weight, or not folding, or incredibly heavy, etc etc. I have limited space and this one fits behind my couch against the wall and is virtually invisible.

I use those plastic Plano boxes. They work well for like 90% of the game supplies. Ships that are big in all three dimensions like the ISD don't really fit though. I went with the Plano Rack System because the top bin gives me space for those big ships, decks of cards, etc.
Most other players in my meta opted for Stanley tool boxes that stack and lock together. I would link it but I'm having trouble finding what they use. Maybe Stanley recently refreshed their offerings?
Good call. I think I found it. Though a good bit more than I was looking to spend.
I would go to a local craft store and get foam core board. It's a little thicker, but fine for proxy. They even have dry erase board that you can just make a couple sizes and write on!
Here is what I'm talking about.
I need to get better before I try to write up a guide but I will try to answer.
I opened up the Vic using a Hobby knife, screwdriver and freezer. I went down the gap in the two halves with the hobby knife trying to work the ship open a bit. Froze it and then levered it open with the screwdriver. This was the hardest part and it took a few attempts.
I then used a Dremel to carve out a lot of the connections on the inside to give me room to place the cables.
I have sealed it back up with magnets so I can open it again if needed. 2 at the front and 2 at the back left and right is quite sturdy.
The LED lights are 3mm LEDs I used these (below) but any lights of similar design should work. The live and neutral of each light then meet a JST connector which is hidden in the ships hanger (bottom of ship). The battery I use also has a JST connector which is how I connect the lights to the battery.

6'x4', HEAVY. Two pieces so you have a smaller 3x4 if you want. I was looking at the small, light, quatrefolding, gaming tables and they were nearly $300US for something you couldn't put your weight on.
Well the Dominion and Federation have fighters in attack wing already, it'd be easy to proxy something for the other races

here's a site that has a history of the price changes on amazon. Try to use it to predict or keep track of price fluctuations and buy when it's low enough for you. http://camelcamelcamel.com/Fantasy-Flight-Games-SWM01-Star/product/1616619937?context=browse
It'll be some months before I can really get the ball rolling. I'm just planning and asking ahead for now.
I have found shockingly cheap Armada stuff with free international shipping here http://www.bookdepository.com/search?searchTerm=Armada&search=Find+book so it's definitely back in the books.
If you want a cheap (albeit less quality/ cool points) option. I bought a $20 USD yoga mat. Works well enough for me. You can also get a cheap yoga mat strap if you get tired of carrying it while it tries to unroll. Link below to example:
1 day left on the European version. I'm a sucker for X-wing/Armada T-shirts, but this one might not get made if not enough people want it :(
The US version is here
I know a lot of folks use binders, but as a non-binder option, I recently picked up a double-size card box that's working pretty well. Comes with a 3-way divider, I've got it holding my ship tarots, squadrons, and objectives at the moment.
So, bobbin storage has slots almost the exact size of an assembled squadron. I lined mine in felt to protect paint. So it stops them from shifting. It also holds 96 of them between the two sides so you can separate different faction out. Excellent for storage.

Amazon does still sell them! They just combined them all into one listing, the same way shirt sizes are handled. I am not sure why, maybe for ease of access?
My guess is that it is this one. I myself have the medium sized one that I combined with a bunch of 5mm d6 to make a Box o' Death to use in Battletech.
A seller on Amazon has some ISDs in stock.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1633441180/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_ZZ59Fb7NJKRXE
If not the official Xwing mats cuz they fit the theme (you need two), there's an extra large rubber style yoga mat that is often recommended as well.
I recommend going to the local hardware store and checking out the tool boxes. A good tool box will hold plenty of tokens and ships. Figure $10 for a plastic tool box.

Then you'll want an organizer too. I got a couple of these for $10 each.
I like the organizers cuz they have little cups instead of dividers. So I pick up the cups I want to use and put them in my toolbox, and off I go. The cups also carry small ships.
I like the look of that one, link isn't showing stock, but it is on the US Amazon page:
https://www.amazon.com/Vault-Binder-Pocket-Trading-Loading/dp/B07F84DM9M
Grabbed one myself, I'm happy I decided to grab the upgrade card pack, but I'll need new storage for my cards now.
Not the same dude but I’ve done some squadron painting.
I use the regular nuln oil, not be gloss. It sits flatter on the model.
I usually try and let each coat dry before proceeding with the next one. Usually it’s only a few minutes. However if I am going to put a protective clear coat on the model I will wait a few days and then apply the clear coat. I don’t know if that’s necessary but it’s what I do.
I’ll try and see if I can find some good paint recommendations for the squadrons you mentioned a bit later in the day.
As far as technique goes, I learned so much by watching the Warhammer TV YouTube channel. The Games Workshop painters have so many tutorial videos for mini-painting. Even though the models are very different from ArmadA, the lessons and techniques are still applicable. Granted they will only recommend and use GW paints, but I found it a wonderful entry point.
Thanks! A couple questions.
Do I need to a let the models dry in between any steps and if so how long for?
What colours would you recommend for the Lancers, YT-1300s, Z-95 headhunters and all the ships in Imperial Squadron pack II?
I’m going to buy this on payday:

A super big and pretty mat for the money. Love it so far, but I'd definitely get the smaller size of you don't have a huge table. It hangs off about 2 inches on either side of ours currently.
alright so there's two ways to fix this.

This is assuming you didn't glue the peg into the hole, Grab a small thumb tack or paperclip, if you're using the paperclip bend it out so you got a straight bit of metal. Next take a lighter and heat the ever living crap out of the end. Next stab it right into the middle of the peg that broke off. It'll melt the plastic for a little bit until it sings in. You don't have to go super far, maybe 1/4 - 1/2 of the way into the peg. Let it sit down and cool for a while the plastic will make a small bond to the metal. It won't be super strong but it should be enough to get it out of the stand. If you have some good luck and the broken bit is removed then congrats you got your stand back.
this is in the event that you either glued the peg to the stand or the peg refuses to come out via the first method. grab a pack of these and glue them onto the ship and the stand. https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Fastener-Miniature-Warhammer-Magnets/dp/B07BM99ZZN/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=1%2F8th+inch+magnet&qid=1604239906&sr=8-3 Sorry about the stand :(
The Yoga Mat on Amazon is a great cheap alternative for $30. It's EXACTLY 3x6 and what's great is the material is super non-slip. So nudging is limited.
Hope this helps!!
Well, I got it on Amazon, but the print quality is rather disappointing for $200+. They did a great job of framing it though.

If you also play X-wing and have extra/unassembled maneuver dials (from 1.0 or a conversion kit, for example), one of the two plastic pieces is the same as the shield dial cap.
What I did when I needed more was buy these rubber grommets: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DC85CLP - I used a hobby knife to trim the lip off one side, sort of like peeling a very tiny apple; it's $5 for 50 so if you shave one too thin or cut through it, no big deal. It's also easier to remove and reassemble the shield dials (I have some acrylic shield dials that I swap between bases).
I use this for ship cards and titles:

Victory Class Destroyers as well, $8.04.
The SSD ship card is more akin to an investigator card or ancient old one card from Arkham Horror - another FFG property. The card’s finish is different from the matte linen that is typical of other Armada ship cards and upgrade cards plus the corners aren’t rounded.
I’ve have a corner rounder that I like to use for board game player aids including the large Arkham Horror cards. I’ve used it on my SSD ship cards and can rest easier knowing they won’t get crumpled the way sharp edges would.
A 3mm or 1/8” radius corner rounder is what you need to recreate playing card corners. If you like to create proxy cards this is an awesome tool to have lying around.
This one has served me well. fits 2 mats easily.

Looks like there is a couple things on sale
This is my setup. One day I’d like to better organize the interior of the big container so my ships aren’t just piled on top of each other.
Also this Artbin jewelry organizer for tokens fits perfectly inside the main organizer. Indentations in the Stanley box’s sides suspend the jewelry organizer so you can fit stuff under it - but you can still close the top lid. Super helpful.
The bespin one from FFG is the best but its always out of stock.
If you get ffg mats be careful to not store them up and down but side to side or else you get this weird egg crate texture.
If you're not going the two 3x3 mats from ffg style, which should cost you ~$40 each, I suggest the yoga mat style. Remember you'll actually need it to be slightly larger than 6'x3'... ideally you get one that's more like 6'x4' so you can fit cards and such on the edges, but those can get costly and it's not totally needed. The deal to beat is this 6'x3' yoga mat for ~$25 shipping included. You can get slightly cheaper on amazon for the same looking thing but not black.

One of the top for ship cards, two of each of the bottom, one for rebel squads cards and one for Imperial. Work wonderfully.
It's the bottom piece of a Stanley click and connect set. Absolutely perfect for armada. You can get a big top box and lower part combo (this piece) on amazon and then buy as many lower pieces as you want.
In the top I have all medium and large ships plus a Plano case for tokens. The two compartments in the lid hold dice and command dials perfectly in one with damage deck, objective tokens, and speed dials in the other.
One lower box contains all my small base ships and another lower has all my many squadrons.

It can be really cheap or overly priced on amazon. Hardware stores might have it. I love that I can keep adding layers to it. And honestly, a small Plano holds more than enough defense tokens, objectives, etc. this one fits right in the upper box resting on the yellow dividers. for storage at home, I put all the ships on display on a bookshelf. Looks good and each faction has its own shelf.
For travel I use an Ornament Box that is 3 levels. then I custom made my trays with foam core. everything is snug and does not move. Took a few hours of time while watching tv to make it but its perfect.
Maybe you will get a better price from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1616619937/ref=as_li_ss_tl?psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=techvolc-20&linkId=c8d2bb4391d5a8eead59eeca9f74bb8b
I will ask a friend in USA if I can ship the game to him, then pick it up sometime next year when I visit.
That is my solution exactly.

My fleet is similar in size. I have a 3rd expansion tray waiting in anticipation of waves 3, 4, and 5.
I also fit a small plano box in the top of the toolbox to hold tokens, etc.
Been meaning to post some. I'll see what I can do over the weekend, but I'm using this with three more units on the bottom layer. I used a lot of self-adhesive craft-foam on the insides for padding, and thick craft-foam for sub-divisions.
EDIT: any photos I post will be preliminary. I'm in the middle of making some major changes, but the box and the general idea will be the same.
For ships. Will hold duplicates of up past wave 2. I use some of the tackle boxes listed already for squadrons and utilities.
I bought this, the squadron cards all fit really well even sleeved and the upgrade cards sleeved will fit two wide on their side in a single sleeve. It works really well for me. The ship cards I have sleeved as well and I have them in these each will hold quite a few sleeved ship cards and I have one for each faction.
I used something similar for X-Wing and I'm currently using it for Imperial Assault. There wasn't enough storage space for the larger ships. Basically, anything on a medium base or higher didn't fit in the lower bins but these look thicker so it could work.
Currently using, and would recomend: Stanley Toolbox
I bought a 48"x72" black yoga mat. The bases grip the surface beautifully. I used a white paint marker I bought from Michaels to make stars on it. Here's a link to what I have. I'm using mobile so not sure if it will work. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PA1KWK/ref=ya_st_dp_summary
Can you recommend a decent setup? I have looked around and read reviews but have not decided. I was looking at these two but do not know if I should spend more for something that is not a beginner level.
You can have a very solid experience with just the core set. It only leans slightly towards the rebels favor, as having two ships versus one is a major advantage at such a low point level.
To counter this, there are three things you can do:
The first is buy a second core set. Right now, Amazon Prime has core sets for just under sixty dollars. Much like X-Wing, buying two of the core sets pretty much fixes whatever serious balance issues affecting one set, especially for the Empire. Tarkin is an amazing admiral, but he isn't very good with just one ship in his fleet.
The second option is to get a core set, and get the Assault Frigate for Rebels, and the Gladiator for Empire. This gives you more options for ships, upgrades, and Admirals.
The third option is to just buy what you think looks cool. Armada hasn't hit the strictly better ship threshold yet, so you should be safe in whatever you get. I will say this though, this will lead you down the path of buying one of everything.
Whatever you choose is up to you. Honestly though, ignisphaseone said it best: >I really recommend getting 1 copy of everything
Honestly, don't bother with either of those compressors. You REALLY want one with a tank. For precision painting, the tank ensures an even air flow, while the kind that don't have a reserve tank sometimes can't keep up with consistent spray.
YES, it's more expensive, but honestly if you want to do it, I highly suggest you do it right. Had several friends buy those starter kits and they always wound up replacing both the compressor and brush it comes with, thus spending more.
Speaking of brush, those brushes are pretty bad. They aren't precision machined, so they use O-Rings all over the place. Those are hard to clean and a point of failure.
I have two airbrushes that I adore: an Iwata Revolution and a Grex (I forget the model)
You have a few different kinds of grips: a pistol grip and a pen grip. I have one of each and use them for different applications, but have found that I mostly prefer the Grex.
I think this is what I have: http://www.amazon.com/Grex-Tritium-TG3-Trigger-Gravity-Airbrush/dp/B002XQ2K5W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1449878477&sr=8-2&keywords=Grex+Airbrush
Someone can probably recommend a cheaper alternative-
I recommend a gravity feed. Side feed and vacuum feed are both more of a pain to clean, and don't work so well with small amounts of paint for miniature work.
Anyways, just my opinions and observations. YMMV!
> Sakura micron pens and markers
Something like these?
and
I like this plano: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YSFTDC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
It fits the big ships on one side and has 2 smaller cases for squadrons and tokens/cards
I like your carrying case. I also picked up a Stanley tool box.
I got it for 30$ at Wal-Mart, I don't know why it's so expensive on Amazon.
It's great. It's really looking like it will hold 2x of everything up until Wave 4 if I can organize right.
> Card Sleeves - Not necessary. A lot of people just like to use them. I haven't sleeved my cards for Armada so far, but for X-Wing I have all my pilot cards in sleeves that match their faction with Star Wars sleeves from FFG.
> Core Set Fighters - Comes with 4 xwings and 6 TIE Fighters
> Dice - The extra dice are definitely a good buy.
> Game-play area - A full 300 point games uses a 3x6 play area. A starter match or a 180 point game from just the core set uses a 3x3 area.
I just received this yesterday. I know it doesn't have a pretty star field but I'd rather have the no slippage factor. I measured it and it is exactly 3x6.
How do the upgrade cards fit in the 2x2? Theyre a little over 2.5 tall sleeved, so do you have any pictures of how that worked? I found these Tobacco cards that are the size of the upgrade cards, but probably won't fit well sleeved.
