Firstly, Starmadepedia is without a doubt official. If you didn't notice when they announced it's launch, the official site links to it. This subreddit doesn't define what is and isn't official.
You can download it for free from the website.
Personally, I get bored playing solo, but I run a small server for me and some good friends, and that's a lot of fun.
I used to have fun playing on a larger server, but then it went down for a really long time, so I got disheartened. But if you start on a larger server that's stable, it can be really, really fun!

You can download the game without buying it. There are plans to transfer to a paid model some time in the future. StarMade can also be optionally purchased, in return your profiles are linked to your Registry account and cannot be taken by other players.
You can get the latest available version simply from the launcher, if you don't have the launcher, you can download it at http://star-made.org. There is no set 'creative' mode, but if you are in SP you can use the command /giveid (your in game name) (Block-ids (number of blocks that you want.) Having massive ships comes from wanting better ships, the more shields you can cram into it, the more AMC's, the more missiles, the better. Having a small ship is a disadvantage because you will be destroyed by larger ships, the only advantage to a smaller ship is its turning speed. Buying the game is advantageous because you are supporting the development of this game, you also get it at a lower price than it will be offered in the future.
Okay so I got in contact with someone from customer experience director. And he basically told me to download the launcher from the main site: http://star-made.org/download . And place it in a new folder anywhere on my harddrive. Install the game inside that folder, and it will work again. At least for my pc, and it's also working again through steam.
Thanks to all of you for taking the time to help me.
My attempt at the shiniest boat in the verse. Not done, but close. I need to add:
-shuttles
-more detailed internals
-some external tweaking
-wobbly-headed dolls
-crazy preacher hair
-sponge baths
-the special hell
I outfitted it with minimal shields and lots of thrust and power, as well as a jammer. no weapons, but I left room for warp if Schema adds it, which has essentially been confirmed. ( http://star-made.org/news/patch-day-starmade-0-15#disqus_thread ) <-- go to the Whats to Come Next section.
Tell me what you think!
EDIT: formatting fix EDIT EDIT: grammar fix
I already knew about this new piece of information but had forgotten.
"The color of weapons (only cannons so far) can now be modified by placing any light source block directly under the output block of a weapon group."

So many features
not really.
you need to look at the image, the thumbnail is a thumbnail and will pixelate. It is a thumbnail. I say this twice because you seem surprised about it.
If you click it, you are linked to an image that is 2meteres x 2metres.
It is available as a wallposter.
By popular demand I have uploaded an HD version https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2pw9jvGXRxsSjh4VE0zUUtNZkk/edit?usp=sharing
Do you even internet Bros?
I realized one of the questions wasn't answered:
To download go here:
Just click download on your computer type to download the free version.
The buy thing is kinda odd if you decide to buy the game in the end. You don't really get any real confirmation that you now have the full licensed version but I suspect that comes later.
Know what you mean. Painful to find information when you're been away from the game. http://star-made.org/news/balance-and-effects
With all the outdated wikis and sites out there I recommend checking the news for info. It is at least probably accurate ;) http://star-made.org/news
Spergs are obsessed with things like, building city planet stations in an autism space simulator. The texture pack I'm using is pretty motivating as well because it adds to my immersion. Also a little bit of time spent throughout a couple months. This project is probably my 5th (and by far largest) big project. The others were learning experiences.
http://analpoundtownandassociates.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=23 is a topic with a few images of the texture pack being used, and http://star-made.org/content/texture-pack-%E2%80%93-low-res-minecraft-style-clean-gui is the thread made by the guy who created the pack. If he's not around for the next update, I'll probably expand the pack to include any new blocks or GUI elements.

This is the official test server. It's not very fast though, but that's ok since we are testing the limits of the game.
There are people online most of the time.
