Minimal. The iris chip in the SP17 i7 does happen to be a GPU that can dip into the regular ram ( since it's an integrated chip), but that's not the real bottleneck.
The iris chip itself is only capable of so much. To give you an idea, the video memory for the chip (memory specific to the GPU) is only 64MB (eDram). The additional CPU ram it would use would be tiny. It's A lot more capable than the chip in the i5 model, but it's still not fast enough to make use of the extra ram a 16gig machine would offer. I would go with 8gig ram and only go to a more expensive i7 version if you wanted more hard drive space.
You can also buy a micro SD card for extra space however ( wouldn't put games on a SD thought). Good for photos, documents, videos etc.

Higher end i7 surface pros will have the best IGPU. Use it with a USB fan for best results. I have used this in my Surface pros of past. (moved on to a. Surface Book 3) I played nba 2k with it.

Heya, this sounds familiar to the Runtime error I got With the Obsidian games. You should check the error in Windows event Viewer. Pasting the same explanation that I posted in another thread
Try opening up event viewer in Microsoft and start Witcher 3. In Windows error try to see if you get an error for booting Witcher 3. If you get the following line in Module string the solution is simple:
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\redists\peer\msvc-18\GalaxyPeer64.dll
Note that you could get any of the msvc paths, from 14-18.
Then the problem lies with a Runtime error in that .dll. The solution is simple if a bit drastic: Delete the .dll file.
This should force galaxy to reinstall it if needed, this will also mess up Your Automatic updates moving forward and you need to manual innstall, but the game should boot no problem.
I hope this helps you boot the game!
Hey. This sounds interesting. My tablet is running a Norwegian language path.
I looked at the crash through event manager and got the following (In Norwegian but the errors should make sense.)
"Programnavn med feil: PillarsOfEternityII.exe, versjon: 5.6.3.54493, tidsangivelse: 0x59aed1bf
Modulnavn med feil: GalaxyPeer64.dll, versjon: 1.114.12.0, tidsangivelse: 0x5bbe22a4
Unntakskode: 0xc0000005
Feilforskyvning: 0x0000000000015be3
Feil prosess-ID: 0x3798
Feil starttid for program: 0x01d5a9e345fed2d0
Feil programbane: C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Pillars of Eternity II Deadfire\PillarsOfEternityII.exe
Feil modulbane: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\redists\peer\msvc-18\GalaxyPeer64.dll"
If I read this correctly, the game is trying to load something from Program files which it reads as a mistake, because my program files is called "programfiler"
I also noticed that my documents is defaulted to onedrive. However my computer also refuses to redirect this locally with the guide you pointed out above. Claiming that the path is "busy".
In other words, I am confused. Especially considering Torment: Tides of Numenaria, running on the same engine also works just fine. That being said, currently enjoying that!
I don't have real values for you as far as cpu temps. But I have noticed less throttling. I am pleased with this fan
ARCTIC Breeze Mobile - Mini USB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003XN24GY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I've got a 7+ i5 coming in the mail in a couple days and I ordered this for it:

It's not really going to blow the fan at an angle inside any of the vents, just straight to the back of it. Do you think I'm going to see any benefit? If so it seems like the perfect solution because this thing goes completely vertical to hold the surface like a second monitor to my main one.
i got a ~10$ usb fan from amazon. one with a bendy neck so you can point it directly at the back of surface.
its cheap, effective, hardly takes up space and makes a big difference in frame-rate. i can play hours without stutters, while before my surface would go ~20min before having to undervolt and cool down.
found the exact one i bought https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003XN24GY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AQ5qDbRDK1RY4
Sorry if it is a mobile link but I have the bigger one of this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X8ZLYLR/
This one is $33 (there's an option for 10% off coupon but I don't know how that works), the one I have is really really good. Super solid design, good strain relief on the cable ends, reliable, the bigger one has a USB C Input as well for charging, but it's only super helpful on the surface pro imo.
I got mine because all my classes went online so I have 100+ hours connected to a screen. This one looks nicer, mine has a half plastic body and plain rubber cord, versus the solid aluminum (it looks like it) body and braided cable.
The sleeve it comes with is convenient, it's good for holding the cable so it doesn't flop around when you're not using it
Also I have a 60w USB C charger I use for mine, also for gaming, max power draw and displaying to TV in 2K and mouse + cooling fan plugged into it and it's barely warm. SB2 is higher power but I don't think you're going to charge through it. 4K also no problem.
I would super recommend it
Sorry for the later reply, but have you thought of using a case such as https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077D3LPVD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_CQ7hFb7SH0MS2
and rigging a heatsink to it? I wonder if the case's thickness would negate the positives of using a heatsink...
I think that'd be overkill for what the Surface can play. You'd be better off going for a SATA 3 SSD with higher capacity like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Inch-Internal-MZ-76E1T0B-AM/dp/B078DPCY3T
Samsung has the most reliable SSDs, and their EVO and QVO lines are really good price/performance.
I use one with this enclosure, and it it works great and looks like it belongs with a Surface:
https://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Aluminum-Type-C-External-Enclosure/dp/B01FWT2N3K
I bought this fan on Amazon. I leave it plugged in, because the battery life is maybe an hour tops. I bought it because it was cute. Any small USB powered fan should work, and Amazon has a lot of cute ones.
I have the 15 inch SB2 so my GPU uses a bit more power than yours, and I have the official Surface Hub which doesn't deliver enough power to game for more than about 90 minutes.

Instead I plug in normally, then use a usb-c dock for the following: Ethernet, monitor, mouse, usb microphone, and keyboard. The battery stays charged and I have zero issues with the devices plugged in to the usb-c dock. Here is the dock I use:

I did a fair amount of research before buying that, and at the time Anker did not make one but they do now. So I'd prob get the Anker usb-c hub if I was you
