They should do an episode about Theranos, there's interesting tinfoil theories about why the deep state (Kissinger, George Schultz, and many Silicon Valley people) were interested in a new way to quickly analyze people's blood with just a few drops.
There is an addon for google chrome , edge and firefox called bypass paywalls by adam . You have to get it on github (not those addon shops) and run your browser in developer mode, but it works to remove the paywall for NYT WaPo and WSJ.
I read this article. Its actually really interesting. There is this app that rewards you for doing basic tasks. These could include sending them food prices or the prices of other good in their local area. The app is mostly used in poorer countries because the payouts do not seem as good. There are other missions it sends you on where you have to take pictures of certain buildings or giver layouts of local areas. While you are doing this the app also catalogues every wifi hotspot you walk by and other things like that. All this info is sold to marketing agencies, companies and the US government.
The US government used this app extensively in afghanistan to collect intelligence and presumably it does it in other countries as well. I definitely recommend reading the article because its very interesting. It is yet another example of the US government buy app companies data. I think I could post it here in this thread for anyone who either doesn't have a WSJ subscription or does not use this browser extensionto bypass most paywalls
side note I really really recommend that extension because not having to pay for media is great.

I just lack trust for a VPN company that advertises a bunch on a ton of YT channels. I’d recommend Mullvad if you’re dead set on a VPN, or just use the TOR browser if it’s just something you only use every once in a while.
I feel like if you use a VPN for anything more than trying to torrent the latest Avengers movie or access info outside your country's firewall you are using it wrong. You can read around some different subreddits like r/VPNTorrents for like the ones that "provably" have some sort of security that is desired.
I used Mullvad like multiple years ago. Was downloading oldish video games and Nintendo will send out those sorts of C&D orders for that sort of thing. Seemed like a good choice at the time, but that was a while ago. It seemed to check the boxes of a "safe" vpn. I don't think its based in america, you can pay in cash by just mailing money and an account number, and seems to have the "top features" VPN nerds look for. But again, you can't really assume this stuff is like a fucking invisibility cloak from Harry Potter, so try not to go too crazy.

I think one of the best books I’ve listened to is Thy Will Be Done. It’s like 40 hours, so will keep you occupied for a while.
The podcast "You're Wrong About" has good eps about this. There is a whole series where they read passages from and discuss the now largely forgotten book Michelle Remembers which instigated the whole "recovered memory" and "satanic panic" phenomena. It was written by a psychiatrist and his future wife and former patient Michelle Smith.
In the book he describes at length how he manipulated and engaged in what we plainly see today as extreme professional misconduct as he and Michelle construct a bizarre story and also their romance gets hotter and hotter.
Amazingly the book was accepted entirely by the mainstream and they toured all over the place making fuckloads of money. The psych was considered an expert on satanic sex abuse and recovered memories during the panics during which he also made loads of money.
